Actress Tannishtha Chatterjee, who is known for films like ‘Parched’ and ‘Angry Indian Goddesses’, and is currently awaiting the release of ‘The Storyteller’ and ‘Joram’, has shared that for her travelling in the ‘Kaali Peeli’ taxis of Mumbai was very liberating.
Mumbai’s ‘Kaali-Peeli’ taxis, which have been a symbol of the city for decades, have gone off the roads as per a mandate by the city’s transport department. This comes after the retirement of the legendary red double-decker diesel buses operated by Best which have defined Mumbai’s landscape for many years.
Recollecting her fondest memory, Tannishtha said: “When I first came to Mumbai, I used the Kaali Peeli taxi a lot as I stayed in Kemp’s corner, back in 2005. I have very fond memories of the Kaali-Peeli taxi because the experience in Mumbai was so different for me.”

Sydney, June 11 (Ians) These days Jane Campion — Palme d’Or and Oscar-winning film director — is celebrated for a vein of heartfelt cinema that is aching and quirky, rather than gushing, writes ‘Variety’.
She’s also an intelligent and determined female pioneer who has had to struggle for her present standing in a male-dominated industry.
The Sydney Film Festival this week is showcasing and contextualising Campion’s body of work, ‘Variety’ reports. Its screening programme includes all nine of her feature films, from “Two Friends” to “The Power of the Dog”, and a selection of her shorts.
“For our 70th edition, we wanted to present a retrospective commensurate with the milestone, reflecting the audacious and boundary pushing filmmaking synonymous with our festival and region. There was no one more appropriate than Jane Campion,” said Sff Director Nashen Moodley in notes ahead of the event.

In the Apoorv Singh Karki directed film, Manoj plays a prosecuting lawyer who is pitted against a slew of celebrity lawyers, reports ‘Variety’.
“Usually what happens is that you spend some time with the real person. Somewhere, I realised it’s a two-hour film, you have to have your own preparation away from the real guy, who is somebody who’s not even known to the world. And he’s achieved a feat in five years of continuous court hearings that is remarkable,” Bajpayee told ‘Variety’.

Following “Ajji” and “Bhonsle”, Devashish Makhija’s latest film, “Joram” also finds its way to Rotterdam, proving once more, that the Indian director is rather proficient in using genre in order to make psychological and sociopolitical comments. This time, quite interestingly, he comes up with a survival thriller that will remind many of “Lone Wolf and Cub”.

Vaano still seems happy, but there is an intense shadow hanging over Dasru’s eyes, which becomes even more intense when a political leader from their region,...
