The 87th Academy Award nominations for 2015 were recently released on January 15, 2015 representing the excellence in film for the previous year. Naturally there was the standard controversy regarding those films and performances that got unfairly overlooked. Unfortunately, the perceived snubs do happen from year to year so this goes along with the territory. Nevertheless, the lucky selections that do manage to grab Oscar’s attention are understandably grateful and psyched to see if the golden statuette will in fact go home with them on the film industry’s biggest and most elegant evening.
With the obvious crankiness of Oscar omissions aside and the injustices that go with these “reel” deals has anyone ever considered the Academy Award nominees that are surprisingly recognized that could have gone unnoticed for whatever reasoning? After all there are films and exceptional performances that get lost in the shuffle but manage to get the accolades it...

Exclusive: To get to Tony Danza’s dressing room at the Nederlander Theatre, where he stars in the new Broadway musical Honeymoon in Vegas, you walk a corridor that circles the perimeter of the ancient house, where trash cans line one wall, and graffiti scrawled by Rent cast members dominates the other. Climb a set of stairs, and then there is the star’s cold perch, one that would barely provide room for Michael Keaton’s Birdman levitation act.
You imagine how much smaller this must be than the giant trailers where Danza spent most of his adult life in Taxi and Who’s The Boss. And then he emerges, euphoric and still sweaty after two hours of singing, tap dancing, even serenading with a love song while playing the ukulele, and he looks like a small Brooklyn kid whose parents took him to Coney Island. He has just completed...

From Francis Ford Coppola to George Miller, we take a look at 10 directors who made belated returns to the franchises they created...
There's nothing new about directors returning to the stories and characters they first brought to the screen years before. Director Fritz Lang directed his first film featuring the mesmeric master of disguises Doctor Mabuse in 1922; he then returned to make The Testament Of Dr Mabuse in 1933, before heading back one final time for The Thousand Eyes Of Dr Mabuse in 1960 - the director's last film.
In recent years, however, it's become increasingly common for directors to return to the film series they began years earlier. It's an attempt, perhaps, to return to themes that still interest them, or to tell a new story in the same landscape as before, or maybe because of a Hollywood deal too lucrative to turn down. As the selection below proves,...

One of the most interesting and entertaining animated shows for children in years, Cartoon Network’s Ben 10, is headed for a live-action theatrical release thanks to mega producer Joel Silver. For those who don’t have children – or just aren’t willing to admit that they still watch cartoons – Ben 10 follows the exploits of Ben Tennyson, who is on a summer-long vacation with his cousin Gwen and their grandfather Max, traveling cross country in Max’s Rv, dubbed “The Rust Bucket”. However, everything is changed when Ben – while walking through the woods – sees what appears to be a meteorite hit the ground. Yet, upon further inspection, Ben soon realises that it’s actually a case carrying a strange looking wrist watch called an Omnitrix, an object which contains the DNA of ten different kinds of aliens (the 10 in Ben 10 – referring to the aliens and his last name...

Ben 10 has become quite popular since its debut in 2005, and has developed as its own franchise consisting of an animated TV series, video-games, and two Dtv live-action films.
Now, Variety is reporting that Joel Silver (The Matrix Trilogy, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) will be developing a live-action theatrical film based upon the title as a “potential franchise starter“. The last TV show Silver developed to the big screen was Speed Racer, but he’s determined to not make the same mistakes with this film.
For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Ben 10 is about “ten year old Ben Tennyson, his cousin Gwen, and their grandfather Max are on their summer camping trip, Ben finds an alien pod on the ground. When he examines it he finds a mysterious watch-like device called the Omnitrix. The device permanently attaches itself to his wrist giving him the ability to transform...

After growing into a massive franchise, "Ben 10" is going to have a big screen treatment. Joel Silver, "Sherlock Holmes" producer, is set to develop the Cartoon Network series, with Warner Bros. Pictures handling the distribution.
According to Variety, Silver's goal is making "a potential franchise starter" for the action flick. "I think we have to try something fresh and go at it in a way that stays true to the original material," so he said. "I have a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old, so it's somewhere between them." Steve Richards from Dark Castle added, "We really see this as a large, big-budgeted tentpole movie."
Having made a children action film "Speed Racer", Silver suggested that the forthcoming movie will be different. "I tried to do [something similar] with 'Speed Racer' and failed miserably," the producer admitted. "You always learn more from the ones that don't work than the ones that do work.

The plot of The Losers (2010) goes something like this: an elite Special Forces team (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, Columbus Short and Oscar Jaenada) heads into the Bolivian jungle on an assigned mission, only to wind up double-crossed. Everyone thinks they're dead, actually, which opens wide the door to exacting a measure of revenge. The enemy? A mysterious man referred to only as Max (Jason Patric). Their unlikely ally? The sexy operative Aisha (Zoe Saldana). The stakes: Max aims to spark a worldwide war -- and gain from it. And so, the Losers try to shoot, blast, and outsmart everything and everyone that stands in the way of them reclaiming their lives, saving the world and giving Max a taste of his own medicine. The story is what it is, so it's all about the cast chemistry and how director Sylvain White -- who last stepped behind the...

I was just beginning to wonder when we would see some footage from The Losers, as it hits theaters on April 9 and features the lady of the hour, Zoe Saldana. My curiosity was right on schedule, as the trailer has appeared online over at MSN Movies.
The Losers is based on the DC-Vertigo comic by Andy Diggle. No one has mutations or superpowers, it's not set in an unspecified future or an alternate universe. It's just an ordinary Special Forces team abandoned and left to die by their mysterious commander, Max. They regroup, vow revenge, meet up with a mysterious woman seeking the same man, and let the bullets fly. And the jokes. And the explosions.
It's a Joel Silver production, the cast is great, the material sounds fun, and it's a movie that's kept a fairly low profile up until now. Quite often, those end up being the movies...

Wonder Woman! The most popular superhero costume for a woman on halloween and one of DC’s three consistent characters since 1944, Wonder Woman has been a staple in our culture for generations. She burst onto the scene in 1941 in All Star Comics #8 and hasn’t looked back since. Wonder Woman was created by Willaim Moulton Marston with the intent of being a feminist role model. Her (Wonder Woman aka Princess Diana aka Diana Prince) background consists of being one of the Amazon people sent here to spread the message of love, sexual equality, and peace in a world that was being polluted by the hatred and anger of men. Who knew that a comic from so long ago would have been such a messenger before it’s time, only to carry on after the feminist movement of the 70’s? Not to mention hold the title of being a memer of the trinity of DC comics?...

Jason Patric has joined the cast of "The Losers," the Warner Bros./Dark Castle adaptation of the DC-Vertigo comicbook. Patric plays Max, a CIA agent who has gone off the rails and sets up the title characters, a black ops team, to be killed.According to Variety, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba also star. It is the first true villain role and the first comicbook movie for the actor who is usually drawn to dark, edgy, adult-themed fare. Courted by Joel Silver (who produces with Akiva Goldsman), Patric was lured by the chance to work with director Sylvain White. He also decided to plug in with the young geek demo driving the box office these days. In...

If you hadn't already heard, Matrix producer Joel Silver is developing an adaptation of the Vertigo comic series The Losers at Warner Brothers (already due for release next April). Sylvain White, of Stomp the Yard previously, is writing and directing, making this his first foray into big-budget action. With the news today (via THR) that Holt McCallany has joined the cast, I thought it would be as good a time as any to do a full-fledged feature on the film (and its cast), as I haven't written about it that much before today. The best part of this project is the impressive ensemble cast that Sylvain was gathered up, so let's take a closer look. Here's the plot (from Wikipedia): Originally a Special Forces team seconded to the CIA in the 90s, the Losers were betrayed by their handler, Max, and left for dead following the conclusion of their operation.

This weekend the box office is being dominated by Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a conflicted comic book character perfect for his own spin-off film and stand alone back story. Unfortunately, the X-Men mutant movie was a bit of a disappointment in terms of quality, but as it rakes in more dollars this summer the studio will definitely be looking for ways to cash in on its success on top of any future Wolverine installments.
There is already talk of spinning off Deadpool. This rumor is strengthened by early discussions with producers and the curious casting of a relatively big name actor like Ryan Reynolds for what was almost a cameo part in this weekend’s blockbuster.
