Quentin Tarantino has dabbled in a variety of genres with his long filmography. One genre he hasn’t quite tackled is romance, although he makes the argument he’s done his version of a romantic film already.

Given Tarantino’s movies, the filmmaker’s taste in cinema might surprise some fans. The filmmaker once revealed years ago that some of his guilty pleasures were rom-coms. Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he confided that one rom-com in particular left a lasting impression on him. The Matthew McConaughey feature Ghosts of Girlfriends Past was a film that struck Tarantino personally.
“In that movie, he’s this sexy fashion photographer. Famous fashion photographer. Has a ton of girlfriends. He’s a real jerk. He’s known her for a while,” Tarantino said.

Quentin Tarantino has expressed interest in dabbling in the horror genre for a long time. But to him, one of his own movies comes pretty close to being a part of that category.
Quentin Tarantino | Loic Venance/Getty Images Quentin Tarantino revealed why this movie is the closest he’d come to directing a horror film
Tarantino has always been open about his fascination with horror movies. There were even a couple of scary movies that the director would’ve liked to experiment with if he could. He famously talked about taking the reins of Wes Craven’s Scream and making it in his own image. But he also fantasized about doing a movie as good as 1973’s classic The Exorcist. However, he felt tackling a horror film of that quality meant he’d have to tone down his own trademark movie. It was a compromise he wasn’t sure he could do.

Earlier this year, Max announced it would be housing over 200 episodes of AMC Networks’ television at no additional cost to subscribers beginning in September.

A number of great horror titles are leaving at the end of October as well, including: “A Cabin in the Woods,” “Beetlejuice,” “Eight Legged Freaks,” “From Hell,” “It” and “It: Chapter 2,” and several more. They’ll be great to put on while you host your Halloween bash.

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.
August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.
Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

As Elvis Presley mesmerizingly sang in the title song to 1964’s Viva Las Vegas, “How I wish that there were more than 24 hours in the day.” His legion of fans will indeed get 24 hours’ worth of a dozen of the King’s movies as he opens TCM’s annual August event, Summer Under the Stars, which honors a different film star each day of the month. And while the August 1st slate begins with the posthumous patchwork 1981 documentary This Is Elvis, it’s anchored by the aforementioned Sin City musical dramedy classic (8/7c), featuring Presley as auto racer Lucky Jackson but dominated by his chemistry with equally swivel-happy costar Ann-Margret. Girl Happy (Credit: Everett Collection) “It’s infectious,” says TCM host Ben Mankiewicz of the much-loved film. “It’s the gold standard of this type of Elvis movie.” That said, there’s something for all the faithful here, from lauded...

Elvis Presley made 31 movies between 1956-69, and while his celluloid career will never be as celebrated as his musical output, it’s hard not to crack a smile when thinking about good-time movies like Viva Las Vegas, Blue Hawaii and, of course, Clambake. Throughout May, Encore will have those titles during an event the network has dubbed The Elvis Collection: Whole Lotta Elvis, which will feature 24 of the King’s films, with one airing each night. The event includes the 1981 docudrama This Is Elvis (May 14), as well as an all-day marathon of Elvis movies May 25. In addition [...]

Chicago – Attention Elvis Presley fans. Coming out a few months after what would have been his actual birthday on January 8th is the “Elvis 75th Birthday Collection” from 20th Century Fox, which includes seven of the King’s films in one set. With a few hits and a few more unheralded gems, the “75th Birthday Collection” has a very low price point (under $6 a movie) that might make it the perfect Father’s Day gift choice for the patriarch in your family.
DVD Rating: 3.5/5.0
With no special features and standard video/audio quality, the only notable thing about the “75th Birthday Collection” is the chance to have seven films from Presley’s career in one affordable set. With only the films that Elvis made under the MGM banner available, instantly recognizable hits like “Jailhouse Rock,” “Viva Las Vegas,” and “Girl Happy” are not included (but will be in a massive,...

Dead man walking, Andrew Garcia, performed the Elvis classic – Hound Dog on this week’s American Idol show. Former runner up Adam Lambert didn’t pull his punches when mentoring Andrew – he straight out called it a boring performance.
We though it was pure lounge music, right down to the handkerchief pinned to his jacket pocket. Are you supposed to pin those things on the outside? It should be obvious to anyone with working ears that American Idol is not the place for Andrew Garcia to be singing. He’s out of his comfort zone and floundering terribly.
Judges Comments:
Randy Jackson: I hate to say this, but Simon Cowell kind of predicted it earlier. That was not good karaoke. I didn’t like it, I didn’t get it at all. This is Elvis, one of the greatest ever.
Ellen DeGeneres: I have your back too, because...

"American Idol"'s Top Nine sang songs from the Elvis Presley songbook on Tuesday night's show -- and their mentor was none other than last year's runner-up Adam Lambert. Crystal Bowersox kicked off the night with the gospel-influenced Elvis tune "Saved." Randy Jackson complimented her: "Every week I say this like a broken record. That is the way to come out and give it up. You have this whole cool vibe. It could have been the second coming of Bonnie Raitt." Ellen DeGeneres joked, "I am tired of telling you how great you are. Fantastic." Kara DioGuardi told her, "Another solid performance from Crystal." And Simon Cowell said, "What I loved about that is you didn't choose an obvious song. You chose something that suited you. You didn't fall into the karaoke trap. Sounded great." Performing second was Andrew Garcia with the Elvis classic "Hound Dog." Randy commented, "I hate to say this,...
