Prime Video’s new thriller series Wilderness is already making a splash by having a truly great bop as its theme tune in Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, but there’s much more to enjoy here than that. The raunchy show follows a young writer called Liv, whose dream life with her handsome and wealthy husband falls apart when they move stateside and she catches him cheating on her. Their “make or break” dream holiday is set to crumble into a nightmare, albeit a scenic one, when Liv sets out to get her revenge.
The cast of Wilderness may be small, but it’s stacked with notable actors, some of whom might seem very familiar to you. If you can’t remember where you’ve seen them before, or just want to know more about them, we’re here to help!

Mike Flanagan threw viewers a bit of a curveball with the second entry in his "Haunting" anthology series, 2020's "The Haunting of Bly Manor." Where the show's revered first outing, 2018's "The Haunting of Hill House," is horror through and through, its mostly well-received but slightly more divisive second entry is really a gothic romance that just happens to include literal ghosts. Yes, I'm using what you might call the "Crimson Peak" defense, but it applies here all the same.
Perhaps even more than "Hill House," "Bly Manor" plays fast and loose with its source material. Mainly a retelling of Henry James' classic 1898 gothic horror novella "The Turn of the Screw," the series adds elements from James' other works while also filling in the gaps in the romance between doomed lovers Peter Quint and Miss Jessel prior to the story's events. Interestingly, though, it wasn't the first off-shoot of James' novella to do this.

It's hard not to get swept up in the charms of The Haunting of Bly Manor's Oliver Jackson-Cohen. Whether he's quizzing a young costar about the '90s or posting about his time on set, the 33-year-old English actor's mere existence has caused many to swoon. Even the less-than-perfect Peter Quint on Bly Manor - he did destroy Miss Jessel's life - is still getting people talking thanks to Oliver's portrayal. I mean, there's just something about him in a turtleneck that gets the thirst going. Ahead are just 27 of Oliver's hottest pictures to quench your thirst - and maybe give you something to look at if you ever happen to get tucked away.

All of the characters in Netflix's The Haunting of Bly Manor have their quirks and personalities. As it turns out, it's because some of them are ghosts, some of them come in and out of reality, some are caught in dream sequences, and some are grappling with things they're maybe not prepared for. The children of Bly Manor, Flora and Miles Wingrave are two of the most interesting characters on the show because they experience so much. If you've started watching, though, and can't pinpoint why Miles seems so strange, maybe a more thorough explanation will help.
Right from the moment Dani sets foot on Bly Manor property, she experiences the eccentricities of young Miles. The boy kisses her hand in an extremely adult manner, immediately putting the au pair on edge and sufficiently creeping out viewers. As the show progresses, Miles continues to exhibit odd behavior, like swearing at the manor staff,...

Hannah Grose, the strong yet kind housekeeper at Bly Manor, quickly endears herself to Dani when she shows up to be the au pair. But even from the beginning, as lovely as she seems, there is something off about this Haunting of Bly Manor character. In a show with so many twists and turns, heavy emphasis on the twists, you couldn't help but assume that maybe Hannah wasn't who you thought.
Dani first meets Hannah when Flora Wingrave brings her to the well on the manor's grounds. Dani and Flora find Hannah there with Flora's brother Miles. Hannah is distracted, staring into the well, before she introduces herself to Dani. From there, Hannah's seemingly normal, but we soon learn about the ghosts at the manor and how they're tucking the children away to take over their bodies and how several characters are not actually themselves.

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” including the ending.]
If there’s a theme running through reviews of Netflix’s “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” the second installment of Mike Flanagan’s horror anthology, it’s that “Bly Manor” simply isn’t as scary as its predecessor, “The Haunting of Hill House.” In a way, critics aren’t wrong. There are certainly fewer ghoulies lurking in the background of dimly-lit scenes this season and no mysterious figure quite as singularly disturbing as the bent-neck lady of “Hill House.”
But horror is subjective and while “Bly Manor” doesn’t worry itself as much with jump scares, it does indulge in a slow-burn terror, which builds incrementally until its final moments and beyond, in which its tale leaves the viewer with such existential dread that it lingers long after the season concludes.
No, “Bly Manor” isn’t as scary as “Hill House.” It’s scarier.

The first day at work for The Haunting of Bly Manor’s writers started with a field trip. Mike Flanagan’s team went out to the Amblin Entertainment screening room to watch a movie. “We did the same thing in [The Haunting of Hill House] with Robert Wise’s The Haunting,” Flanagan tells Den of Geek and other press outlets. “It’s a great way to start … to put up a really beautifully realized adaptation of the same source material, and to start talking to the writers about the things that I love about it and hear the things they love about it.”
For Bly Manor, the version of the same source material chosen was Jack Clayton’s The Innocents, released in 1961 and starring Deborah Kerr. It’s a film that Flanagan wanted to celebrate in his own adaptation of Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw.

“The Haunting of Bly Manor” fans, have you already binged your way through the nine-episode follow-up to Mike Flanagan’s “The Haunting of Hill House” and jonesing to know what he has planned for a potential third chapter of his “The Haunting” anthology?

“I don’t really know anything about future seasons,” Victoria Pedretti, who played au pair Dani Clayton on “Bly Manor” and Nell Crain in “Hill House, told TheWrap. “Yeah, no, it’s the truth. I’m not going to lie to you,” she added with a laugh.

Episode five of The Haunting of Bly Manor ("The Altar of the Dead") dives deep into the backstory of the housekeeper Hannah Grose, who's warmly portrayed by the great T'Nia Miller. Until this point, the show doesn't divulge much about Hannah. It's a fantastic episode, albeit a somewhat confusing one. The narrative jumps back and forth between the past and present, so it's hard to tell what's going on, even if it's quite a revealing installation with a major twist. The thing about Bly Manor is that the puzzle pieces fail to make sense on their own until you see the whole picture. For that reason, Hannah's story may not entirely gel together at first. So let's break down the key takeaways from episode five and talk about how Hannah's memories tie into The Haunting of Bly Manor as a whole.
How Is Episode Five Framed?
First, here's the relatively spoiler-free framework.

EntertainmentThis standalone series is the second instalment of the riveting ‘Haunting of Hill House’, and released on Netflix on October 9.Geetika MantriScreenshot/NetflixSpoilers ahead In a lot of mainstream stories that we see in cinema, love tends to be a major driver in the actions of the characters. But there are some stories which are just as powerful because they unravel another emotion that can be as strong a motivator as love, if not more – guilt. And Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor, which released on October 9, is a brilliant exploration of a drama that is driven by several of its characters being haunted by the guilt of their past. The Haunting of Bly Manor is the second instalment after the riveting Haunting of Hill House, though the two series explore different settings and different stories. The Haunting of Bly Manor ties up its intricately woven ghost story with an ending that's both sweet and heartbreaking. Dani's sacrifice keeps the Lady in the Lake at bay, and both residents and spirits cursed by Bly find some semblance of peace. Flash forward 20 years, and the end also takes us to the wedding in 2007, where we learn how the storyteller and bride relate to this emotional tale. Ultimately, The Haunting of Bly Manor concludes with a happily ever after that bears an inkling of tragedy. There's a lot to unpack in what it all means, so let's get to it.
How the Curse Get Lifted
The end begins with the Lady in the Lake dragging Dani back into Bly Manor. After Flora's pleas, the Lady lets Dani go and takes Flora instead. Meanwhile, Peter Quint is fully possessing Miles. Uncle Henry feels in his bones that something is...

The Haunting of Bly Manor is full of creepy and mysterious objects. One of the most unsettling of them all has to be Flora Wingrave's dollhouse, which is full of borderline demonic-looking dolls, some of which are even faceless to add to the scare factor. Flora is rather firm about Dani not touching her dollhouse and remains cryptic about it all throughout the show. While the series never truly dives into the true purpose of the dollhouse, we get plenty of hints about how it serves Flora along the way. So what's the deal with the dollhouse anyway? Well, it's certainly not as malicious as it may initially seem.
The dollhouse is a replica of Bly Manor.
When Rebecca tucks Flora into a memory in episode six, we briefly learn about the dollhouse's origins. Unable to attend her sixth birthday party, Uncle Henry gives Flora a giant dollhouse that he...

From the get-go, The Haunting of Bly Manor doesn't mince the tragedy of Rebecca Jessel (Tahirah Sharif), the bright nanny preceding Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti). Right after Dani's interview, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) tells her that her predecessor died on the grounds by killing herself. The housekeeper, Hannah (T'Nia Miller), later explains to Dani that Miss Jessel waded into Bly's lake about a year ago when her relationship with Peter Quint (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) went awry. But of course, there's more to this ghost story than meets the eye.
Similar to the development in The Turn of the Screw, it's true that Peter Quint is bad news from the beginning and that he and Rebecca have a whirlwind romance. Rebecca enters Bly full of potential and on her way to becoming a barrister. When she meets Peter, Henry's assistant, her life turns upside down. But then, Peter disappears. Everyone assumes he left,...

(Warning: This post contains major spoilers for “The Haunting of Bly Manor” through its finale.)
Two of the most pivotal characters in Netflix’s “The Haunting of Bly Manor” are the two youngest residents of Bly, 8-year-old girl Flora Wingrave and her 10-year-old brother, Miles, as they know more about the secrets of the chilling estate than anyone else on the grounds, including their new au pair, Dani (Victoria Pedretti). And that’s because a good chunk of the time the children are actually inhabited by two very different people: the ghosts of Peter Quint (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and Rebecca Jessel (Tahirah Sharif).
For “Bly Manor” stars Amelie Bea Smith, 9, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, 12, this meant playing two parts in one, a task they took on with the help of their counterparts Jackson-Cohen and Sharif.

In The Haunting of Bly Manor, it's easy to chalk up the erratic behaviors of the orphaned Wingrave children as symptoms of their grief. At a cursory glance, grief would explain their hostility toward the staff and random walks around the property's lake. But of course, The Haunting of Bly Manor is all about ghosts, and the ghosts are definitely up to no good. While they themselves are bodiless, the spirits have found a hack to navigate the physical world by "tucking away" the children, which basically means pushing them back to their memories to occupy their bodies. Let's break down this idea, since it can be very confusing.
In a sense, the Wingraves are creepy possessed children. We mainly see the spirits of Rebecca Jessel and Peter Quint tucking away the kids. The show formally introduces us to the concept of getting tucked away when Flora gets pushed back...

Terrifying faceless spirits run amok in The Haunting of Bly Manor, and they symbolize how both memory and physical features slowly fade over time. In episode six, Rebecca Jessel (Tahirah Sharif) tucks Flora (Amelie Bea Smith) away into an older memory. As Flora wakes up, someone falls to the side of her bed: a faceless boy in dated clothing. But who is this creepy child? The mystery soon unravels two episodes later as we learn about Bly's cursed history. The faceless boy in Flora's room, it turns out, is one of the Lady in the Lake's unsuspecting victims.
Right after the boy reveals himself to Flora, her mother and Uncle Henry (Henry Thomas) - who are having an affair - check the room. They don't see him. Flora wakes up and realizes that she's been "tucked away," which is when the consciousness gets pushed back to a memory as a spirit occupies the body.

Oliver Jackson-Cohen might play villainous roles like The Haunting of Bly Manor's Peter Quint and The Invisible Man's Adrian Griffin, but don't let those projects scare you away. The 33-year-old actor likes to break the tension with laughs on set and actually seeks out acting opportunities that
allow him to express his "sensitive" and "emotional" nature
. That's what made him such a compelling character when he portrayed Luke Crain in The Haunting of Hill House, which is where many fans fell in love with him for the first time.
He's certainly no sweetheart in these new Netflix episodes - Peter Quint is manipulative and terrifying - so if you need help separating the actor from the role, keep reading. We've rounded up a few of our favorite facts about Oliver that'll help you rest easy. For example, did you know he was originally set to play a totally opposite part in Bly Manor?...

Among the complex villains “The Haunting of Bly Manor” gives us is Peter Quint (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), the devilishly charming employee of Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) who falls madly in love with Rebecca Jessel (Tahirah Sharif), the whip-smart au pair to Henry’s young niece, Flora (Amelie Bea Smith), and nephew, Miles (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth).
Peter proves himself to repeatedly be a selfish person, both before and after he is killed by the Lady in the Lake, with two very specific instances being his biggest transgressions throughout the second season of Mike Flanagan’s Netflix anthology. The first is when he commits suicide for Rebecca by entering her body with her permission and then drowning her against her will. The second is when Peter convinces young Miles and Flora to give up their own little bodies to Peter and Rebecca’s spirits,...

The following contains spoilers for every episode of The Haunting of Bly Manor.
The Haunting of Bly Manor’s dream-hopping conceit allows the dead and the possessed-living to jump from memory to memory, reliving key moments of their lives. Some memories, like Peter Quint’s encounter with his mother, are traumatic, but others, like Hannah’s first meeting with Owen, are sources of comfort. One thing the memories share is a disorienting effect on us as viewers, left to piece together the puzzle of exactly when everything is happening.
You can’t count on the past, Owen memorably tells Hannah, but you can count on the below: a chronological timeline of when the events of The Haunting of Bly Manor took place, all the way from episode eight’s historical flashback to the eve of Flora’s wedding…

The following contains spoilers for The Haunting of Bly Manor.
While many have pointed out that The Haunting of Bly Manor is not quite as scary as its predecessor, it certainly has a more satisfying conclusion. The Haunting of Hill House seemed to lose its nerve in the final hour, delivering an ending that was too saccharine and unearned. On the flipside, Bly Manor concludes its story in heart wrenching, then bitter sweet fashion, revealing the identity of the series’ mysterious narrator, detailing the fates of the 1987-set characters, and expelling the spirits of the titular manor.
Here is what really happens at the end of The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Episode eight of The Haunting of Bly Manor devotes its black-and-white entirety to Viola and Perdita, the two sisters who haunt Bly Manor's grounds. Throughout the show, we see little hints of their existence, from their paintings to their grave plaques. While broadly based on Henry James' The Turn of the Screw, the show primarily derives the sisters' tale from James' short story "The Romance of Certain Old Clothes." Viola and Perdita's history unravels one of the biggest mysteries on the show: the identity of the creepy Lady in the Lake. The Haunting of Bly Manor peels back layers of terror to reveal a tale full of jealousy, resentment, and tragedy.
We begin in the mid-17th century as the two women watch their widower father, Mr. Willoughby, die. Viola is the eldest, born five years before Perdita. They need to get married so that someone can look over Bly and their father's economic affairs.

The following contains spoilers for every episode of The Haunting Of Bly Manor.
“I liked your story”, a grown-up Flora tells an older Jamie in The Haunting of Bly Manor’s finale. “But I think you set it up wrong just in the beginning. You said it was a ghost story. It isn’t. It’s a love story.” Almost right. The Haunting of Bly Manor is two love stories: the centre-stage romance between Bly’s au pair and gardener Dani and Jamie, and the unrealised romance between housekeeper and chef, Hannah and Owen.
Both are tragic tales. Dani and Jamie’s marriage was unfairly – like too many lesbian love stories on screen – cut off in its prime, while Hannah and Owen’s relationship was stopped before it could even begin. Before the pair had confessed their true feelings to each other, Hannah was killed. Not that she realised.

The Haunting of Bly Manor features an unholy number of creepy dolls, including Flora's DIY faceless one with stringy black hair and a lacy dress. In episode five, Hannah (T'Nia Miller) revisits the night of Peter Quint's death, and we learn that the doll is styled after the Lady in the Lake. We've seen this woman around as she lurked about the grounds and tracked mud everywhere. In the first episode, Flora even warns Dani about her. But there's more to her story than just sheer terror - the show devotes the entirety of episode eight to exploring her backstory. Yes, in the penultimate episode, we finally meet the elusive Viola Lloyd, played by Kate Siegel.

The following contains spoilers for every episode of The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Henry James (probably known as Hank Jim to his friends) is one of the most prominent and prolific writers of his era. Originally appreciated for his novels like The Portrait of a Lady and The Ambassadors, James is now best-known for his 1898 work The Turn of the Screw, an eerie, ambiguous ghost story novella that would become one of the most enduring Gothic horror texts ever.
The Turn of the Screw has been adapted dozens of times into films, operas, ballets, and more. And James’s classic story forms the basis for Netflix’s Haunting of Hill House follow up The Haunting of Bly Manor. Just as Hill House uses Shirley Jackson’s horror story as a jumping off point, so too does Bly Manor liberally borrow from The Turn of the Screw. But that’s not...

There’s a simple answer to where you’ve seen most of 2020’s The Haunting of Bly Manor‘s cast before: in 2018’s The Haunting of Hill House. Writer-director Mike Flanagan has a resident company of actors with roles across several of his horror projects, as shown by the significant crossover between these two Netflix series alone. Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas and Katie Parker are just some of the familiar faces appearing in Flanagan’s new Henry James-inspired spooky series Bly Manor. And here’s what else this bunch is known for on screen.
Henry Thomas – Henry Wingrave
Thomas’ most famous role came at the age of 10 when he played young lead Elliott in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 blockbuster E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (see his terrific audition tape here). In recent years, Thomas has been a frequent collaborator with writer-director Mike Flanagan, playing the young Hugh Crain, father...

While there aren't any demons present on The Haunting of Bly Manor, a metaphor for an important biblical possession and exorcism weaves its way throughout the story. The Haunting of Bly Manor primarily focuses on an au pair, Dani, that's hired to watch two children, Miles and Flora, at a remote estate. While in school, Miles learns about the "Miracle of the Gadarene Swine," laying the foundation for an important plot point in the series.
Father Stack, Miles's teacher, discusses the Bible verses Matthew 8:28–8:34, Mark 5:1–5:20, and Luke 8:26–8:39, where Jesus comes across either one or two possessed men. While the demons don't want to leave their host, Jesus gets the permission of a herd of pigs to take on the demons. The pigs then rush down a hill and drown, allowing the man to return to his old self. The story causes Miles to ask whether,...

“The Haunting of Bly Manor,” the second chapter of Mike Flanagan’s “The Haunting” anthology, launches Friday with a completely different story and characters from its first season, “The Haunting of Hill House.” But while Bly is home to different residents, some of its key inhabitants are played by those who dwelled in Hill House, including Victoria Pedretti and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.
In short, the two seasons are just “wildly different,” Pedretti told TheWrap.
For 2018’s “Hill House,” based on the Shirley Jackson novel the same name, Pedretti and Jackson-Cohen played twins Nellie and Luke Crain, the youngest members of large a family that moved into the central haunted house one summer and were forever traumatized by the events that occurred there.
In “Bly Manor,” the actors play two strangers versus a set of siblings: Dani Clayton, who comes to Bly to become a nanny to two “unusual” young children, and Peter Quint,...

In the new, cancellation-happy era of Netflix (the latest victims: the fun yet thoughtful Teenage Bounty Hunters, the un-renewed cult favorite Glow), it seems the safest thing a creator can make is not a sprawling tale requiring many seasons, but something tight and cancel-proof, like a limited series or an anthology show. This week’s entry into the field is The Haunting of Bly Manor, a spiritual sequel to 2018’s Haunting of Hill House.

As someone who is a big fan of Henry James’ work, and also counts The Innocents as one of the greatest horror movies of all time (you can read my tribute to Jack Clayton’s film Here), I have been eagerly anticipating Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Bly Manor adaptation for Netflix, as I was extremely curious about how this story would parlay into a nine-episode series. Thankfully, Bly Manor ended up surpassing any lofty expectations I might have had going into this new show, proving that even after countless versions of The Turn of the Screw over the decades, there are still ways to take this story in new and exciting directions.
While it may not necessarily be quite as heavy on the horror as The Haunting of Hill House was, Bly Manor is still an incredible feat in storytelling, and everyone involved with the series should be...

Instead of a straightforward sequel to The Haunting of Hill House, we're getting an anthology sequel, The Haunting of Bly Manor. Is it based on a book like its predecessor? In fact, it is - but unlike the first season, the book and the TV show don't share a name. This time around, the new season is based on Henry James's 1898 horror novella The Turn of the Screw, renamed for TV to follow the same pattern as the first season (Bly Manor is the site of this tale's horrors).
The novella's plot is certainly dark and full of terrors, though of a different kind than those of The Haunting of Hill House. The book is narrated from the point of view of an unnamed governess who takes over the care of a pair of siblings after their parents die and their uncle takes them in. After the brother comes home...

Henry James’s novella “The Turn of the Screw” has inspired many screen adaptations, most notably Jack Clayton’s “The Innocents,” which starred Deborah Kerr, and a live TV version with Ingrid Bergman that was directed by John Frankenheimer. In the early ’70s, Marlon Brando headlined a memorably nasty prequel called “The Nightcomers,” and movies from this story have been made all over the world. You have to go out of your way to screw up this material.
“The Turning” is an adaptation of “The Turn of the Screw” that takes place in 1994; we hear over the radio that Kurt Cobain has just committed suicide as we meet our heroine Kate (Mackenzie Davis), a cheerful, slightly nerdy woman who has just received a job as a nanny to an orphaned young girl and boy. In most versions of this story, the governess goes to meet the uncle of these orphans,...

Starring Marlon Brando, Stephanie Beacham
Written by Michael Hastings
Cinematography by Robert Paynter
Directed by Michael Winner
Between 1944 and 1992 Jack Clayton directed just nine movies but they included some of the most elegant yet clear-eyed films to come out of post-war Britain – from the hard-knock realism of Room at the Top to the broken-marriage reverie of The Pumpkin Eater. A man of letters as well as cinema, his relatively brief career was spent collaborating with writers like Wolf Mankowitz, Harold Pinter and Truman Capote.
Born in London, Michael Winner showed a talent for free-wheeling and mildly racy movies like The Girl-Getters and I’ll Never Forget What’s ‘isname – cheeky entertainments that helped define the myth of sexy swinging London for stateside audiences.

Netflix's The Haunting is leaving Hill House in Season 2 in favor of Bly Manor. Here is what that might mean.
The Haunting of Hill House Season 2 isn’t really The Haunting of Hill House Season 2. As you know by now, Netflix has signed Hill House showrunner Mike Flanagan to a new deal and is turning last year’s Halloween horror hit into an anthology series.
That new “The Haunting of” (or maybe just “The Haunting”) will continue in 2020 with The Haunting of Bly Manor.

The Turning, a movie update of Henry James’s Turn of the Screw, stars Mackenzie Davis as the governess of two possessed children.
The Turning represents an entertainment industry Renaissance of sorts for the 1898 Henry James-penned gothic ghost story novella, Turn of the Screw, since it’s one of at least two major productions in the pipeline to adapt the classic, genre-defining story. The other offering will manifest as the upcoming second season iteration of Netflix’s horror anthology series, The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Interestingly, this particular Turn of the Screw adaptation, a film from director Floria Sigismondi, will brandish the surging star power of Mackenzie Davis, star of Terminator: Dark Fate, and Finn Wolfhard, one of the primary stars of Netflix’s smash hit series, Stranger Things, and the It films, which released its conclusion, It: Chapter Two, this past September.
