Director Andrew Ahn has confirmed that the idea of a sequel to Fire Island remains active in conversations, though no formal development has taken place. The 2022 romantic comedy, set on the LGBTQ vacation destination and loosely inspired by Pride and Prejudice, drew attention for its ensemble cast and contemporary adaptation.
“There’s always been conversation about doing a sequel,” Ahn told Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t know if a real concrete idea has been formed yet, but there are things in the ether.”
Written by and starring Joel Kim Booster, Fire Island follows a group of close friends over one week during their annual trip. Booster plays Noah, who focuses on helping his friend Howie (Bowen Yang) connect with Charlie (James Scully), while resisting his own complicated feelings for Will (Conrad Ricamora). The cast includes Margaret Cho, Zane Phillips, Matt Rogers, Tomas Matos, Torian Miller, and Nick Adams.

With another summer just around the corner, another ferry to Fire Island could be on the horizon.
Director Andrew Ahn recently revealed there’s “always been conversation about doing a sequel” to his 2022 gay romantic-comedy, which is set at the titular LGBTQ getaway and is loosely inspired by Jane Austen‘s Pride & Prejudice.
“I don’t know if a real concrete idea has been formed yet, but there are things in the ether,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
Ahn noted that writer and star Joel Kim Booster “always jokes that it’s going to be like the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That, where it’s 30 years later and they’re older and gayer. … We’ll see what happens.”
The movie stars Booster as Noah, who enjoys one final trip with his friends to Fire Island while trying to help his best friend Howie (Bowen Yang) hook...

Many exciting shows are coming to Hulu over the next couple of months.
The streaming service confirmed on Monday that Mid-Century Modern, its highly-anticipated multi-camera comedy, is one of those and will receive its debut on March 28.
The series will stray from the typical weekly rollout, with the streaming platform dropping all 10 episodes on the premiere date.

Some shows benefit from the weekly release strategy to keep the conversation flowing, but we’ll reserve judgment on whether a binge release will benefit this series.

As speculation continues over who will be the next James Bond, Andrew Scott, who played the villainous C in Sam Mendes’ “Spectre,” is weighing on his “All of Us Strangers” co-star Paul Mescal stepping into the shoes of 007.
“He’d probably be a great James Bond,” Scott told me Saturday night at Los Angeles special screening of “All of Us Strangers” at Vidiots in Eagle Rock.
But then he added with a sly smile, “I want to see him in ‘Gladiator’ first.”
Mescal, who couldn’t attend the Saturday screening because he is currently filming the “Gladiator” sequel in Malta, has been a fan favorite to lead the James Bond franchise after the departure of Daniel Craig.
Scott says Mescal has sent him photos from the “Gladiator” set. “It’s gonna be incredible,” Scott said. “It’s so exciting. I’ve seen some images that are going to delight the world over.

When the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes got underway earlier this year, many Netflix shows were left with fates up in the air.
Now that the strikes are over and Hollywood is getting back to normal, the series won't be making the cut for additional seasons are being revealed.
Deadline revealed Wednesday that Shadow & Bone, Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall will not be returning.
Shadow & Bone is the highest profile of the five shows, having made it to a second season.
Despite the freshman season garnering considerable buzz, Shadow & Bone Season 2 launched earlier this year to little fanfare.
Based on the Grishaverse books by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone Season 2 follows Alina Starkov, who is now on the run.
The series stars Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik...

Zane Phillips has rapidly risen to fame in recent years, showcasing his talent and diversity as an actor through various roles in queer media. While known for playing hunky "Himbo" characters, Phillips has proven to be more than just muscles, displaying his comedic timing and ability to bring layers to his characters. From playing a meathead lawyer in "Partner Track" to a demi-god in "Legacies" and a rakish character in "Fire Island," Phillips has shown his range and ability to find pieces of himself in each role, even the unpleasant ones.
Zane Phillips might just be getting started in larger roles, but he has already become one of the biggest rising stars in recent years. Known for playing hunky characters, Phillips has already appeared in several pieces of iconic queer media, and his identity is very much a part of his burgeoning career. It’s been quite a week for filmmaker Andrew Ahn.
On Wednesday, his Hulu film Fire Island earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie, and on Thursday night at the opening of Outfest he received the Lgbtqia+ festival’s Outfest Achievement Award, recognizing a body of work that includes Fire Island, Driveways (2019), and Spa Night (2016).
The festival called Ahn “a beloved member of the Outfest family” and “a champion of promoting diversity in the arts by mentoring youth filmmakers through programs like our OutSet program, among many others.”
“It’s cool,” Ahn told Deadline of the Outfest honor. “It feels a little early in my career. I legit tried to turn it down when [Outfest director of programming] Mike Dougherty emailed me about it, but they were very supportive and effusive that this was my time. I’m so thankful because Outfest was a big part of my coming of age as a filmmaker.

Kim Cattrall has been making her TV comeback this year. First, she reprised her role as Samantha Jones from Sex and the City in the second season of reboot series And Just Like That. Now, she's stepped up to the plate as makeup mogul and CEO Madolyn Addison on Netflix's Glamorous. In the world of Glamorous, Cattrall's Addison is a former model who has wielded her fame and status to build a legacy makeup company, Glamorous by Madolyn Addison, from the ground up with her son, Chad (Zane Phillips). Alongside her team of racially and sexually diverse individuals who love their jobs, Madolyn is determined to keep her business afloat. Miss Benny stars alongside Cattrall as Madolyn's second assistant, Marco, who is brought on the team by a chance encounter to help her with creativity, inspiration, and insight.

Glamorous was released on Netflix, and according to its ending, a Glamorous season 2 may be on the horizon. Kim Cattrall sat out the first season of And Just Like That... before announcing her return in season 2. However, in the meantime, she took on the role of Madolyn in Glamorous, the owner of a legacy makeup company in need of some reinvention. The show shined a spotlight on queer voices and storylines, which was exciting in a world of recycled tv plots. Cattrall's character is stern and intimidating but also kind and open-minded with employees and her business.
Madolyn's personality in Glamorous made it easy to root for her instead of siding with Vendemiaire, the company trying to buy Glamorous by Madolyn and steal Madolyn's ideas. Every generation gets the aspirational workplace it deserves. In 2006, “The Devil Wears Prada” helped establish the archetype of an imperious, intimidating woman who rules her chic urban office with an iron fist; with its obvious Anna Wintour analog, the book-turned-film also doubled as a bookend to the era of the print magazine editor’s omnipotence. Eight years later, Sophia Amoruso coined the term “Girlboss,” a cutesy moniker that soon got a Netflix adaptation to match. Latter-day examples have updated the template to keep pace with the times: “Younger” took place in the wake of the Great Recession, when securing a dream job requires some deceit, while “The Bold Type” was proudly progressive — think 2010s Cosmo, not mid-aughts Vogue. In these stories, actual employment is less secure, but the employer acts less like a dictator than a stern, if nurturing, mentor.

Glamorous is a Netflix series produced by CBS and created by Jordon Nardino. Starring Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) and featuring breakthrough actor Miss Benny in a hilarious role, the series draws inspiration from The Devil Wears Prada, but with a more benevolent character. Although the show meets expectations, they are not particularly high.
The plot follows Marco, an aspiring influencer who lands a dream job with a makeup mogul. He embarks on a dazzling journey of self-discovery amidst the chaos of his work and romantic challenges.
While the show is an entertaining, glamorous comedy, it is more intriguing for its concept than its execution. As the series progresses, the comedy overshadows the plot, leaving it somewhat superficial. The acting is more convincing than the characters themselves, and the actors’ performances are more impactful than their dialogue. The series is too focused on being “glamorous” and not enough on delivering a compelling story.

‘Glamorous’ Trailer: Kim Cattrall Gets Her ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Moment in Netflix Queer Comedy Series

Netflix’s upcoming series “Glamorous” is like “The Devil Wears Prada” if Meryl Streep were replaced by “Sex and the City’s” Kim Cattrall and instead of Anne Hathaway, she hired drag queens and non-binary actor Miss Benny to work for her. The 10-episode LGBTQ comedy series premieres June 22 on the streamer.
“Glamorous” follows baby-faced new hire Marco Mejia (Miss Benny), a young, queer man who lands a job for the legendary CEO Madolyn Addison (Cattrall). Madolyn’s makeup line, Glamorous Cosmetics, is plummeting. Suspecting her business is being sabotaged by someone on the inside, she hires Marco to sleuth around.
“She wants him to be her eyes and ears, to make friends — and find out what’s going on behind her back, to discover what they’re hiding and what they’re stealing. In exchange, she’ll teach Marco everything she knows – but she warns him, ‘This business isn’t all glitter and glamour,...

With Legacies, a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, ending in 2022, many of the cast are off to expand their careers, which means new shows and movies with the Legacies cast. Some actors are blossoming into big stars following their run on the CW series while others are starting to carve out their careers with strong performances in lesser-known indie roles.
Regardless of where their respective careers are heading, the show helped prove that every member of the cast was talented and has an exciting future in the industry. Since the planned Legacies season 5 was ultimately canceled and the series concluded with season 4, these upcoming movies and shows with the Legacies cast are the best place to see them.

So many red carpets. So many celebs. When my editors asked me to name my top 10 red carpet interviews of 2022, it wasn’t an easy task because there were so many memorable — and often times, viral — moments.
I could have easily included Joel Kim Booster talking about his sex scene with Zane Phillips that was cut from “Fire Island.” Or how about how Ariana DeBose telling me at the Oscars how she called then-Disney chief Bob Chapek about the studio’s disappointing response to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill? I will never forget Jonathan Groff singing “The Music That Makes Me Dance” from “Funny Girl” at D23 or Omar Apollo revealing he had a childhood crush on “Wizards of Waverly Place” star David Henrie. Anitta not only sang some Britney Spears at the MTV VMAs, but she also gave me some Mariah Carey at the American Music Awards.

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
After the success of “Uncut Gems,” filmmaker brothers Josh and Benny Safdie and their star Adam Sandler have a lot to live up to with their next collaboration. The trio announced in October they were reuniting for an untitled film for Netflix.
While details about the project are under wraps, Sandler did tell me Monday at the Gotham Awards that he’s going to have a much “different look” than he’s ever had. “I can’t say that I’m gonna look that handsome in it,” Sandler said. “It’s not a handsome moment…It’s gonna be tough.”
As for the storyline, Sandler would only say, “They’re working hard. Every time I talk to them they say they are working hand.”
Sandler starred in “Uncut Gems” as a Howard Ratner, a shady New York City jeweler with a gambling addiction.

With the fall festivals behind us and Oscar nominations just around the corner, award season is officially in full swing. But for many, the official kickoff to the season will always be the Gotham Awards. One of the biggest early showcases for the year’s top independent films, the Gotham Awards are set to take place tonight at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. While only films with a budget under 35 million are eligible, the event is a key battleground for smaller films hoping to separate themselves from the field in their quest for Oscar gold.
If you’re interested in following the action from home, the event will be streamed live on YouTube beginning with red carpet coverage at 6 p.m. E.T. and the awards ceremony beginning at 7pm E.T. You can watch the stream here or in the video below courtesy of Variety.

The first look of David E. Kelley’s investigative drama series “The Calling” were released Monday by Peacock, offering a glimpse into the show ahead of its Nov. 10 debut on the streamer.
Adapted from a series of novels by author Dror Mishani, the show’s plot follows a New York Police Department detective named Avraham Avraham (Jeff Wilbush), who typically relies on spirituality to guide his pursuit of truth until one investigation makes him rethink his beliefs.
The series stars Wilbush, Juliana Canfield, Karen Robinson and Michael Mosley.
One image highlights a particularly tense, yet slightly absurd moment where Wilbush is locked hands with a man wearing a hotdog suit in what looks like the context of an interrogation.
Behind the production is showrunner, writer and executive producer Kelley, whose lengthy career includes series such as “Picket Fences,” “The Practice,” “Ally McBeal” and “Big Little Lies.” Barry Levinson will also...
