This month, The Hundred-foot Journey, starring Helen Mirren and produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, heads to home video. Based on Richard C. Morais’ novel of the same name, the light-hearted dramedy centers on Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) and his family - who relocate from India to France in order to make their dream of opening a restaurant there a reality. They soon discover that their passionate pursuit doesn’t sit well with Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren) - who owns an eatery just across the road.

Based on Richard C. Morais’ novel, adapted by screenwriter Steven Knight and director Lasse Hailstrom, The Hundred-foot Journey told the tale of the Kadam family, who leaves India for France where they open a restaurant directly across the road from Madame Mallory’s (Helen Mirren) Michelin-starred eatery.

London based Film Sales & Distribution company Mister Smith Entertainment premiered "Roger Waters' The Wall at Tiff.
Roger Waters uses this film to question war during such a destructive time in the world:
“Any armed conflict is an underscore and an exclamation mark to this movie, because this movie is unashamedly anti-war, ecumenical, and about love for all men and women whatever their race, color, creed, nationality or whatever,”
Waters also uses this as an opportunity to call for compassion and political activism:
“It’s about our children and about each other and about how we so desperately need to transcend national boundaries in order to cooperate with one another rather than sitting entrenched on our side of a boundary or wall and lobbing bombs at each other over the top of it,”
He added, "We’re on a slippery slope and we need to dig our heels in and say enough, enough, this is not right,”

★★☆☆☆Lasse Hallström revisits familiar territory with The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014), a warmly lit but cloyingly corny and drama-free adaptation of Richard C. Morais' novel of the same name. Talented cook Hassan (Manish Dayal) and his family - Papa (Om Puri) and his other children - are forced out of Mumbai when their restaurant is burnt to a cinder, with their mother still inside. After a brief stint in England, the family settle in France, opening an Indian restaurant in a picturesque rural village. It''s not all happy endings, however, as their arrival doesn't sit well with Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), a snobbish widow with a popular, Michelin-starred restaurant a mere one hundred metres across the road.

Hollywood seems to have found new inspiration in the East. In a time when film releases are full of superheroes, remakes and reboots, films that take place in India or feature Indian characters is becoming a trend. Since Slumdog Millionaire (2008), many other films have followed and The Hundred-Foot Journey is the last in the list.
The Hunded-Foot Journey is based on the novel of the same name written by Richard C. Morais. Directed by Lasse Hallström and starring Helen Mirren, Om Puri, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon, the film tells the story of the Kadam family, led by Papa (Puri) and his son Hassan (Dayal), a talented and promising chef. After tragedy strikes the family, the Kadams decide to move to a quaint village in the South of France with the plan of opening an Indian restaurant, despite the fact that only 100 feet opposite stands a Michelin starred classical French eatery.

New release The Hundred-Foot Journey is a beautifully-shot drama produced by Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg, who likely hope it will prove a hit along the lines of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Formidable British actress Helen Mirren gets top billing as strict French restauranteur Madame Mallory. Her establishment has a Michelin star and brings in big name political figures. However, Madame Mallory's work and life isn't the main focus of this colorful film from Lasse Hallstrom (Chocolat, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen), adapted by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) from a novel by Richard C. Morais.
A family of refugees, the Kadams from Mumbai, moves into the vacated building across the street from Madam Mallory's restaurant. Papa (veteran Indian actor Om Puri, Gandhi) wants to open an Indian restaurant in this quiet French village, with the help of son and aspiring chef Hassan (Manish Dayal, 90210, Switched at Birth) and other...

So are you just getting your appetite back after experiencing the “foodie” film delight of the surprise box office hit from May, Chef (hmm. those were some filling, satisfying Cuban sandwiches!)? Master cinema chefs/producers Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg along with director Lasse Hallstrom (Safe Haven) and screenwriter Steven Knight (Locke) have whipped up an opulant movie entrée based on the best selling work from Richard C. Morais, The Hundred-foot Journey. So after the big, bombastic blockbusters this Summer are audiences ready to head back to the kitchen to watch the balletic, almost action-star choreographed, cooks and servers trying to prepare succulent dishes in record time? Perhaps that’s part of the appeal of the many, many reality cooking and restaurant reality TV shows. Just make sure you’ve had a substantial meal before heading to the multiplex, because with all the culinary delights on display, the popcorn (tasty...

Helen Mirren looks delicious. So does the food. What more do you want in summer movie escapism? Ok, a ban on cultural stereotyping, fewer clichés, and a pace less conducive to napping. Still, unlike the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, The Hundred-Foot Journey is a time-waster that goes down easy. Based on Richard C. Morais' 2010 bestseller, the movie is set in a picturesque French village that only has room for one restaurant. That would be the Michelin-starred Le Saule Pleureur, an elegant boite run by the widowed Madame Mallory...

2014 has already been quite the cinematic year for foodies, with such scrumptious titles as Chef, The Trip To Italy, and The Green Inferno (what, I don’t judge cultures!), but after indulging in all those treats, I walked into The Hundred-Foot Journey feeling a bit stuffed. Hoping that Indian spices could kick this Oprah/Steven Spielberg production up a few notches, Lasse Hallström’s adaptation of Richard C. Morais’ uplifting novel becomes a smidgen too pedestrian when compared to Favreau and Winterbottom’s offerings – even though Hallström’s film boasts a saucy British delicacy in Dame Helen Mirren. An unexpected third act twist does inject a bit of healthy vibrancy into an otherwise overly-produced story of self-discovery, but everything comes together in a rather vanilla mixture once the credits role. Unlike the bursts of flavor highlighted throughout each succulent dish, this journey is rather filling, a bit undercooked, and lacking...

When you say someone in Hollywood is a hard-working actor, they might have over 100 films on their filmography, an astounding feat these days. When you say someone in Bollywood is a hard-working actor, you can multiply that by two or even three times, easily. In the case of Om Puri, one of the stars of Lasse Hallstrom's film version of "The Hundred-Foot Journey," a novel by Richard C. Morais, he's an institution, the star of over 11,000 movies. I may be off by 10,800 or so, but the point remains… Puri is an icon, and if only to watch him play opposite Helen Mirren, the two of them throwing attitude back and forth at one another, I would have to recommend a viewing. As it turns out, the film is a mild pleasure at best. There's nothing necessarily wrong with it, and it's well-crafted, but the screenplay by Steven Knight is...

Beverly Hills, Calif. — If you're going to make your first foray into producing feature films, you can do a lot worse than to have Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey by your side. When the first trailer for Lasse Hallstrom's adaptation of The Hundred-Foot Journey debuted, quite a big deal was made by the fact that the film is produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey. And now the two entertainment powerhouses discuss the charming story of a clash between two different cultures who eventually find a way to co-exist. Helen Mirren plays a stuck up restaurant proprietor who is not too pleased when an Indian establishment opens up across the street. It looks a little cheesy, but it seems to have a lot of heart, and if the story has the approval of Spielberg, then it must have something to it. Based on the international best-seller by Richard C. Morais, the film—out Aug. 8—follows the journey of the Kadams, an Indian family that opens a boisterous eatery just 100 feet from a classic French restaurant owned by a snobbish culinarian (Helen Mirren). Grammatical arguments aside – in several examples of the title, it refuses to carry the hyphen – The Hundred-Foot Journey (fixed it!) promises to deliver feel-good light comedy, culture clash drama and full-on Helen Mirren haught-snark. Have a look at the new UK trailer. Adapted from Richard C. Morais’ book, the story follows Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal), a culinary ingénue with a true talent. When Hassan and his family, led by his dad Papa (Om Puri), move to a quaint village in the South of France with the grand plan of opening an Indian restaurant in the picturesque countryside, they are undeterred by the fact that only 100 feet opposite stands a Michelin-starred and very traditional French eatery. But upon encountering the icy owner, Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), the Kadam family realise they may have bitten off more than they can chew. Outraged by the new arrivals, Madame Mallory is determined to have their business shut down.

The brand new trailer and poster for DreamWorks Pictures’ upcoming movie The Hundred-foot Journey starring Helen Mirren are here.
In The Hundred-foot Journey, Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is a culinary ingénue with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. Displaced from their native India, the Kadam family, led by Papa (Om Puri), settles in the quaint village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France.
Filled with charm, it is both picturesque and elegant – the ideal place to settle down and open an Indian restaurant, the Maison Mumbai. That is, until the chilly chef proprietress of Le Saule Pleureur, a Michelin starred, classical French restaurant run by Madame Mallory (Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren), gets wind of it.
Her icy protests against the new Indian restaurant a hundred feet from her own escalate to all out war between the two establishments – until Hassan’s passion for French haute cuisine and for Mme.

Dame Helen Mirren is cool as a cucumber as a fancy French restaurant owner named Madame Mallory in "The Hundred-Foot Journey." Her Michelin-approved restaurant and her uptight life get a shake-up when an Indian family moves into the neighborhood and starts their own restaurant... a hundred feet away.
The patriarch of the Kadam family, played by Om Puri, is certainly game for a grand battle between Madame Mallory's Le Saule Pleureur; he can dish it out as well as he can take it. His son Hassan (Manish Dayal) is a chef in the great family tradition, but his interest in combining the two cuisines is piqued by his new neighbors. Oh, and Madame Mallory's delicious sous chef Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon). It looks quite charmant, n'est ce pas?

It's rare when a film adaptation lives up the book it was based on so with that in mind I have compiled a list of 40 books that have been adapted for the big screen that we can expect to see in theaters this year. This includes two books from Gillian Flynn, young adult adaptations of work by Veronica Roth, Suzanne Collins and James Dashner, a short story from Dennis Lehane, a Nick Hornby adaptation, and an adaptation written by Nick Hornby, a new John le Carre adaptation and a prequel to the stories written by Tom Clancy as well as a couple comics and graphic novel adaptations from the likes of Frank Miller and Hiroshi Sakurazaka and Alexander O. Smith. I've added everything I could think of and while I'm sure I missed a few, please forgive me and hopefully you'll find something that appeals to your taste on the list.
