If you’re a Chicago fan, a Cleveland fan or a just a fan of the underdog, this is the baseball postseason for you. In this year’s World Series, it’s the Chicago Cubs versus the Cleveland Indians, two teams who have not seen a World Series win in decades. For Cleveland, it’s been 68 years since winning the World Series. And for Chicago, it’s been 108 years. Whichever team wins, it’ll be a gigantic deal for their fans — and for the sports history books.
But before history is made, there’s games to be played. Here’s...

It’s been more than a decade since Danny Boyle’s Rage virus decimated the streets of London and its surrounding boroughs, but it seems as though the acclaimed filmmaker is keen to return to the horror film series he helped birth back in 2002 with 28 Days Later. Following a less-than-stellar sequel that he didn’t direct – that responsibility fell to Juan Carlos Fresnadillo – the franchise is quietly making a comeback via the long-gestating third installment, 28 Months Later, which Boyle is open to directing.
There is one caveat to that reunion, though; as detailed in his interview with The Playlist, the Steve Jobs helmer noted that he would only sign on for the follow-up if he resonated with the script.
“I’ve got no problem [with that],” he said. “It’s the usual thing: is it’s not about whether people think it’s a good idea that you’re directing. It’s...

With his "Steve Jobs" film about to get released, filmmaker Danny Boyle continues doing press about the film. Though he's slated to direct the "Trainspotting" sequel next summer, he was recently asked about another sequel in development - "28 Months Later".
Boyle has previously said several times that he was essentially done with "28 Days Later" franchise, so a third film in the series would likely only involve him as an executive producer - much like with the Juan Carlos Fresnadillo-directed "28 Weeks Later".
In a new interview with The Playlist, he reveals that he could return to the series at the helm after all - but it will depend upon the script:
"I've got no problem [with that]. It's the usual thing: is it's not about whether people think it's a good idea that you're directing. It's whether you respond to the script or not. It's just like on [‘Steve Jobs']. I got the script and I went,...

Hollywood’s sound pros nominated Birdman and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for three awards apiece as the Motion Picture Sound Editors unveiled nods for its 62nd Mpse Golden Reel Awards, honoring the best feature film, television, animation and computer entertainment work of the year.
“2014 was a fantastic year for sound,” said Mpse president Frank Morrone. “The advent of new distribution channels, streaming services and gaming platforms is creating additional opportunities for sound artists to practice their craft beyond the traditional venues of film and television. This year’s nominations reflect that change, spanning an amazing diversity of mediums and genres, all executed at the highest level of creativity. We are truly inspired and impressed by the work of our colleagues.”
This year’s Golden Reels will additionally honor Noah director Darren Aronofsky with the Mpse’s annual Filmmaker Award. Oscar winner Skip Lievsay, known for his work...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Season 2, Episode 4, “Halloween 2”
Written by Prentice Penny
Directed by Eric Appel
Airs Sundays at 8:30pm Et on Fox
“Halloween II” has the tough job of having to live up to the standards of Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s first season classic, “Halloween,” which featured an audacious bet, where Jake bargained a week of overtime to get the captain to do a pile of paperwork for him (and he won). This time around, Peralta ups the stakes and offers to do five weeks of unpaid overtime if he can’t steal Holt’s watch by midnight. But If he fails, Jake has to work a whopping five weeks of overtime with no pay. After a quick analysis, Captain Holt shakes on it. Sequels are rarely better than its predecessor and rarely does a sequel meet the expectations of devoted fans. “Halloween II” isn’t as strong as the original,...

So it looks like ABC, who went to Neverland and dealt with Peter Pan as a major villain on Once Upon a Time, and NBC, who will be debuting its new, live musical production Peter Pan Live! in December, aren’t the only ones interested in the classic character, as it is now being reported that a new Peter Pan series is now in the works at Fox. The project, which is titled League of Pan, would follow the Lost Boys 15 years after they left Neverland. According to Entertainment Weekly, Fox has already given a “script commitment plus penalty” to League of Pan. The potential series would take place in “modern Los Angeles and finds the Lost Boys reuniting when they discover someone is killing them each off.” Written and executive produced by Andrew Miller, League of Pan is described as a “soapy thriller” that is “grounded and edgy.” As I touched upon above,...

Sometimes, a stiff drink is the only answer. Even if you're a cat. Missey the 4-month-old black feline was prescribed a tall order of vodka following a vicious attack. According to The Huffington Post, the pet, who belongs to Paul Stephenson, 47, and his 27-year-old daughter Sara, was assaulted outside her home in Redcar, England, by a group of men who grabbed the cat and covered her in antifreeze. Missey's owners quickly bathed their pet after discovering what happened, but they decided to take her to the vet the next day when she appeared to be getting sick. After hearing about the attack,...

If not for the glory of my Kindle, my "books to be read" pile would be stacked like a pyramid of Colon Blow beside my bed and smothering my poor fiancee and dog, instead of blipping in a smug number at the top of my indispensable electronic reader. (It's 141. And growing.) And I keep a little memo list on my phone every time a new book gets released that I am excited about. It's how I came to realize that the world might just end on October 18th, because there are four books coming out that day.
Anyway, since everyone is clearly already reading The Borrower, because I demanded it of you and because it's a lovely little book, I thought I would share six other books I'm awaiting with fevered anticipation. Because if you are a fantasy nerd like I, July is going to be your promised land.
