First announced in early January, CBS has given a series order for “NCIS: Origins,” which takes place in 1991, years before the events of “NCIS” and follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (narrated by Mark Harmon) through his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office, where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks. Playing a young Gibbs will be Austin Stowell, the network announced today.
Stowell’s television credits include “A Friend of the Family,” “The Hating Game” opposite Lucy Hale, and “Breathe.” He also starred opposite George Clooney, Chris Abbott and Hugh Laurie in the limited series “Catch 22,” the Steven Spielberg anthology series “Amazing Stories,” and “Public Morals,” which was also executive produced by Spielberg and Ed Burns.

Wilmer Valderrama’s big Hollywood breakthrough came on That ’70s Show, but with NCIS, Valderrama has now spent as much time on the CBS crime drama as he did on the flashback sitcom. Playing an NCIS Special Agent on the show has given Valderrama a much greater awareness of what the real-life NCIS agents go through; we’ve spoken to him many times over the course of his run on the show, and he said that his goal on NCIS is to honor the work of the real agents in the field. “Killers of the Flower Moon” star Lily Gladstone embraces her monumental responsibility as an Oscar nominee, utilizing her platform to advocate for the Indigenous community and hoping to pave the way for more actors like herself.
During a panel conversation at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Virtuosos Awards, Gladstone — of Siksikaitsitapi and Niimiipuu heritage — addressed the harmful depictions and references to Indians in media, notably mentioning the Kansas City Chiefs the day before their Super Bowl win.
“Honestly, you could hold both teams accountable,” Gladstone tells Variety. “The 49ers are based on the California Gold Rush, which was an incredibly brutal time for California Indians. And then the Chiefs. There are many ways that you could interpret the name ‘chief.’ It’s not just the name that bothers me. It’s hearing that damn Tomahawk chop. The 57Th Annual CMA Awards – ABC’s “The 57th Annual CMA Awards” stars Luke Bryan. While Bryan may not have any Super Bowl rings like his co-host, he does have seven albums and 25 singles that have gone to No. 1 on Billboard’s Country charts. Seconds after Jamie Lee Curtis walks through the door at Wigmaker Associates in Beverly Hills on a pre-strike July morning, the recently minted Oscar winner comes face-to-face with an army of famous names. There are rows upon rows of them, monikers covering heads made of canvas blocks that atelier owner Rob Pickens and his staff use to custom-make wigs worn by Ana de Armas in Blonde, Millie Bobby Brown in Stranger Things and Amanda Seyfried in Mank.
“I see many of my friends,” declares Curtis as she scans the shelves, pausing to pay special attention to one in particular. “Hi, honey! Here’s my sweet,” she says, planting a kiss on the one named Christopher Guest, her filmmaker husband since 1984. Then Curtis spots another. “I just worked with [Margo Martindale] on a fabulous show called The Sticky. It’s weird when you’re my age, you know all these people.

Within the first couple minutes of “The Family Stallone,” the new Paramount+ reality series following Sylvester Stallone and his family, we’re greeted with a predictable introductory trope: the behind-the-curtain producer prompt. Stallone takes a seat for his talking head and a producer — typically an invisible hand in reality TV, feeding questions rarely ever heard on-screen — can be faintly heard from behind the camera, asking, “How did Sylvester Stallone end up making a reality television show?”
It’s an opening that is about as by-the-book as a famous-family reality television show can be, but it’s also a particularly pertinent question here. The new show comes off of the heels of yet another professional resurgence for Stallone. After a decades-long career in film, the 76-year old actor turned to television for the first time with his recent Paramount show “Tulsa King.” The series was a hit for the streamer and...

There was a time in which actors were unable to alternate between film and TV projects. But as TV has become more cinematic, and blockbuster films have become more serialized, the two art forms have essentially met in the middle. As such, many fans of Michelle Rodriguez might forget she appeared in a key role on the ABC drama Lost. As it turns out, Rodriguez joins much of the show’s fan base in being disappointed with the way it ended.

Elizabeth Banks had a great experience working with Ray Liotta on her film “Cocaine Bear” before his tragic death in May 2022 at age 67.
A synopsis for the upcoming flick, which is inspired by a true story, reads, “An oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converge in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound black bear goes on a murderous rampage after unintentionally ingesting cocaine.”
Banks tells Variety that although she “definitely took gore out” after seeing the first full cut of the film, she didn’t take much out.
She explains how she took particular care with a scene between the cocaine bear and the film’s real villain, a drug dealer played by Liotta.

Cokie the Bear was more than ready for her close-up with Elizabeth Banks for Variety’s “Cocaine Bear” cover. However, no real bears were involved in the creation of these images.
She is the computer-generated handiwork of photographer Art Streiber and a team of eight visual effects experts from Weta FX, who created the bear for the film.
Over the span of two weeks, Streiber and Weta FX VFX supervisor Robin Hollander created a storyline for the photos, from Cokie having her nose powdered to a glamorous red carpet moment.
“This was fun to see how to capture the essence of Cokie and instill it in single images,” Hollander says. He adds, “We didn’t want Cokie to look like a villain — she’s not inherently aggressive.”

The banter was a little different in the opener as auditioning talent took a particular liking to Grande over some of the other coaches. (Credit: Art Streiber/NBC) Despite her popularity, Grande faced some challenges of her own connecting with and convincing some hopefuls to join her team. Opening the episode with her fellow coaches, Grande gave viewers a taste of her own talents as she belted out Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” alongside Kelly. When it was time for her to begin building her team, she struggled with keeping from turning around to see the singers.
