Keanu Reeves appeared at Comic-Con on Friday to talk about Brzrkr, his comic from Boom! Studios. The book is written by Reeves and Ron Garney and follows half-god/half-man B. as he wars through the ages.
Here’s the official summary: The man known only as B. is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence — even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the world for centuries, the Berzerker finally might have found a refuge: working for the U.S. government to fight battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B. will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence, and how to end it.
Comic-Con 2022: Deadline’s Full Coverage
Netflix is working on a Brzrkr film adaptation that Reeves will star in and produce. There’s also a spinoff anime series coming to Netflix, with Reeves voicing the main character.

The sixth episode of “MasterChef: Legends” turned out to be the end of the road for Matt Gagnon, and it was all thanks to his overcooked filet mignon. This 36-year-old construction worker from Cromwell, Connecticut was randomly assigned the popular cut of meat in his mystery box. He prepared his filet mignon with porcini vermouth pan sauce, Brussels sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, it was too seared on the outside and Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez, Joe Bastianich and special guest judge Michael Mina sent him packing.
“When you get presented one of the most delicious cuts anywhere on the planet, then you need to do it justice,” Gordon said after announcing the panel’s decision. “You certainly can’t overcook it and that unfortunately, is why you cooked for the last time.”

Heading into the sixth episode of “MasterChef: Legends,” host Gordon Ramsay and judges Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez had already eliminated two home cooks: Elyce Wooten and Annai Gonzalez. That left the Top 13 still in the running to join the show’s iconic winners list. This week the judges welcomed celebrity chef Michael Mina to the panel, a restaurateur who oversees more than 40 restaurants around the globe. Michael tasked the remaining chef-testants with competing in a fun meat roulette challenge. So how’d it all play out on Wednesday night?

At the end of the June 30 episode of “MasterChef: Legends,” Annai Gonzalez learned the hard way that it’s never a good idea to leave the base of your cheesecake bowl on your dish. When Gordon Ramsay called her out on the apparent disaster, Annai explained how she kept the metal base because her avocado no-bake cheesecake with dragon fruit cream and mango sauce didn’t “set” properly. Special guest judge Sherry Yard then remarked how it looked “more like a dip than a cake,” which perhaps sealed Annai’s fate in the competition.
“Annai, you came in like this firecracker that really lit us up,” Gordon said just before he eliminated her from Season 11. “I’m hoping that you’ll pick up everything that you’ve taken from this incredible kitchen and go forth.” As for the other judges, Aaron Sanchez said he appreciated the “reasoning” behind her Mexican-style dessert,...

“MasterChef: Legends” is one of the most competitive seasons in the reality TV show’s history, with only 15 people having received white aprons out of the dozens who auditioned. Host Gordon Ramsay returned for Season 11 alongside judges Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez plus a collection of special guest star “Legends.” Of the 14 talented home chefs who are still in the competition, which one are you rooting for to win? Vote in our poll below.
The task for Wednesday’s episode was for each of the contestants to create a monkfish dish in honor of world-renowned chef Masaharu Morimoto. Some of the aspiring cuisiners excelled at the challenge, while others faltered.

The auditions phase of “MasterChef: Legends” has concluded, so let’s take a look back at the cast members who received white aprons. Remember, in order to actually compete on the show and be in the running to win the ultimate prize of $250,000 and the “MasterChef” title, a contestant first has to get past the auditions. That’s where they have 45 minutes to create a signature dish in the hopes of impressing host Gordon Ramsay, judges Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez and a special “Legend” guest star.
At the conclusion of this opening round, 15 aspiring chefs received white aprons, allowing them to enter the competition proper. Here are the ones that achieved that impressive feat (see photos above):
Abe Konick (22) from New York, New York — Student
Alejandro Valdivia (39) from Atlanta, Georgia — Professional animal trainer
Annai Gonzalez (25) from Dallas, Texas — Legal assistant
Anne Hicks (39) from Kalamazoo, Michigan — Small business owner

We never got The Dark Crystal 2 on the big screen in the end - but the story is coming to comics...
When it was released back in December of 1982, Jim Henson and Frank Oz's The Dark Crystal was something of a curiousity. Faithful fans of The Muppets wondered why the pair spent their time building an elaborate fantasy world on screen when they could have been working on another project featuring Kermit and company, and the rest of the audience wasn't sure what to make of the odd vision that was unfolding on screen. (Plus, some parents were concerned that the movie would be too disturbing for their kids and stayed away). Although the movie made its budget back, it never quite had the initial critical or pop cultural impact that Henson and Oz were hoping for, and was at first largely viewed as a compelling disappointment.

Boom! Studios, in a new partnership with Saban Brands, has acquired the comic book license to Saban's prized Power Rangers brand. Even though, the Power Rangers franchise is currently on its 22nd season and also has a Lionsgate-produced movie on the way, the new comic series will focus exclusively on the Mighty Morphin era and is being designed to appeal to fans of the original 1993 series, which was by far the most popular of all the different Ranger iterations. Boom! Studios editor-in-chief Matt Gagnon said they have big plans for the future of the franchise and teased that the story they plan on telling will be one vast in scope and that fans of the...

(Cbr)KaBOOM! will publish a comic based on Cartoon Network’s hit animated series Uncle Grandpa as part of Boom! Studios’ first-look deal with the cable channel. Created by Pete Browngardt, "Uncle Grandpa" is a surreal adventure comedy the centers on everyone’s magical uncle and grandfather, who travels the world in his mystical Rv, helping children with their problems. Did we mention he’s accompanied by a talking fanny pack, an anthropomorphic dinosaur, a photo cutout of a tiger and a talking slice of pizza? Well, he is. “When we had the opportunity to sit down with 'Uncle Grandpa' creator Pete Browngardt and pick his brain we were instantaneously inspired by what him and his team have created,” Boom! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon said in a statement. “Pete is a bona fide comics reader and that can only magnify what we’re doing on the series.” Uncle Grandpa...

One of the hotter independent comics out there is Boom! Studios' Day Men. The book, written by Matt Gagnon with art by Brian Stelfreeze, is a unique take on the seemingly undying vampire genre: It tells the story of the men who handle the affairs of vampires while the sun is out and the bloodsuckers are napping. The first issue sold out of its initial 12,000-copy first printing and generated Hollywood interest, with Universal picking up the movie rights. The second issue also went to a second printing; Wednesday sees the arrival of the third issue. Preview Art: 'Vampire Diaries'

We told you back in August that Universal was planning a big screen adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic Day Men, and now we have a quick update for you on the comic itself and more. Read on for details.
Despite the first issue of Day Men, the new horror-crime series from Boom! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon, co-writer Michael Alan Nelson, and artist Brian Stelfreeze being an immediate success -- selling out almost immediately -- the second issue has failed to appear as scheduled. So what does this mean for the property? An open letter from Matt Gagnon sheds some light on what's going on.
Day Men Issue #2 will finally be released next month. The full letter from Gagnon is below.
Dear Retailers and Readers,
Please fasten your seat belts and prepare for landing. We're approaching our final destination. To put it another way, Day Men #2 will be in stores December 11th!

Day Men has been optioned for cinema by Universal Pictures.
Michael Alan Nelson, Matt Gagnon and Brian Stelfreeze's hit series has been picked up by Universal Pictures, according to Deadline.
The Boom! Studios comic book, which launched to critical acclaim last month, is a vampire series that offers an alternate take on the mythology.
"Vampires are like a metaphor for power, and that is what this story is about. Sure, there are fangs and blood, but the story is really about the lust for power and control," Stelfreeze told Comic Book Resources.
"Our main character, David, is at the epicentre of all these tidal forces. This story bears a stronger resemblance to Godfather than it does to Dracula."
Universal recently brought another comic book to the big screen in the shape of Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington's 2 Guns.

Watch out Marvel, because it looks like Boom! Studios is on the way up. Following fellow Boom! Studios alum "2 Guns'" #1 debut at the box office, it looks like the indie publisher could be poised for even more film adaptations. Deadline has reported that "Day Men"—by Matt Gagnon, Michael Alan Nelson, and Brian Stelfreze—has been optioned by Universal in what's reported to be a pre-emptive seven-figure bid.
The series follows a covert group of humans charged with protecting vampires while they sleep during the day, a plan that gets all kinds of messed up when when things get heated between two rival vampire families. The crazy thing is, this series has one issue out and just debuted from Boom! Studios last month. Now that's a quick turnaround, especially considering how long properties like "Preacher" have been hanging out, waiting for the movie treatment.

Universal has already launched one movie based on a Boom! Studios comic in the shape of Mark Wahlberg/Denzel Washington action caper 2 Guns. Now the studio is hoping to continue the run of success with an adaptation of the company’s Day Men.Created by Matt Gagnon, Michael Alan Nelson and Brian Stelfreeze, Day Men takes a look at the vampire tale from what all involved hope will be a unique angle: the titular group is a secret order of humans who protect the fang club as they slumber during the day. When war breaks out between two of the ancient vampire families, one of the men must intervene to stop the bloodshed. Universal is crossing its fingers that this one turns into a franchise a la Underworld or Blade, though it’ll have to tread carefully lest it end up lumbered with another failure like R.I.P.D.

Clive Barker and comics books have a very long history of harmonious co-existence. We've seen plenty of Hellraiser, etc., splashed across illustrated pages, but now it's time for something completely different. The genesis of a new property, if you will.
USA Today is reporting that Barker and Boom! Comics have gotten together to launch an exciting comic property called New Genesis. This will be the first original comic created and written by the horror master. Featuring art by Haemi Jang (Hellraiser: The Road Below), the 12-part series is the Old Testament of the Bible in present day, "if God were to come back and tell you how we all got it wrong and what everything really meant," says co-writer Mark Miller.
"We're making something that is a radical re-reading of ancient structures. It does have the word Genesis in the title, after all. That should be a dead giveaway," adds Barker,...

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.

2012 will be the first year that GeekTrant will invade WonderCon, mostly due to the fact that it was moved down to Anaheim, CA this year which is right in our backyard. We're all pretty excited about attending this year, as we've heard it's a much smaller more intimate version of San Diego Comic Con.
WonderCon is set to open on Friday, March 16th and run through Sunday, March 18th at the Anaheim Convention Center. If you plan on attending let us know, and maybe we can meet up and hang out for a bit!
I've put stars next to the panels we are interested in attending. Check out the schedule, and let us know what you are looking forward to seeing most!
Friday March 16th
12:30-1:30 Idw Presents: The Idw Panel!— Chief creative officer Chris Ryall and sergeant of marketing Dirk Wood, give out prizes, make announcements, and evade questions!

In honor of the memory of Minck Oosterveer, who passed away last weekend, Boom! Studios is offering all issues of Mark Waid and Oosterveer’s The Unknown and The Unknown: Devil Made Flesh for free through all their digital partners — comiXology, iVerse, Graphicly, and mydigitalcomics. It’s a very good story, albeit a bit weird reading it now, with its themes of life after death.
Take a look and see just what made this guy so good. Here’s a preview of the first ten pages of The Unknown:
Also, Boom!’s Editor-in-Chief, Matt Gagnon, has written a stirring remembrance of Minck.

Boom! Studios is offering the work of late artist Minck Oosterveer for free via comiXology. The publisher has made collected editions of The Unknown and The Unknown: The Devil Made Flesh free downloads to anyone who holds an account with the digital service. Oosterveer is best known for his daily strip Nicky Saxx, as well as his Boom! collaborations with Mark Waid. The illustrator was killed in a motorcycle accident last weekend at the age of 50. Boom! editor-in-chief Matt Gagnon paid tribute to the artist on the publisher's blog. "I was devastated on Monday when I heard the sad news that legendary Dutch comic book artist Minck Oosterveer died in a motorcycle accident," he (more)...

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

Twentieth Century Fox's Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Apes, has been moved to an earlier release date of August 5.
Announcing the new date, a Fox spokesman described it as the "last big event movie of the summer." It had previously been set to hit screens on November 25, and prior to that had first been scheduled for June 24. The new date pits it against The Smurfs, comedy The Change-Up and sci-fi thriller The Darkest Hour.
Directed by Rupert Wyatt, the film is an origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man's experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
Starring are James Franco, Tom Felton, Freida Pinto and Brian Cox, with Andy Serkis performing motion-capture for the computer-generated super-chimp Caesar.
