David Berman, the singer-songwriter best known for leading the long-running band Silver Jews, died Wednesday at the age of 52. Drag City, the Chicago record label that has released all of the group’s albums dating back to 1994’s Starlite Walker, confirmed the musician’s death. The label did not immediately reveal the cause of death.
“We couldn’t be more sorry to tell you this. David Berman passed away earlier today,” the label wrote in a statement. “A great friend and one of the most inspiring individuals we’ve ever known is gone.

Welcome back, David Berman, a literary indie-rock great who’s been gone way too long. Berman’s debut with his new band Purple Mountains is his first release since retiring his beloved band the Silver Jews eleven years ago. When the SJs first appeared in the early Nineties, they first struck people as a sideband for Berman’s Charlottesville, Va buddy Stephen Malkmus, who played guitar and added vocals to Berman’s songs. But as the band kept releasing records it became clear the real story was Berman’s insane...

David Berman is ready to release new music, but it’s not with his regular group Silver Jews. That band is still broken up, and has been for over a decade, so Berman is back with a new album and a new single from his new band Purple Mountains. This comes from Pitchfork, which notes that the group’s self-titled debut…...

More than 23 years after John Wayne Bobbitt’s penis was reattached after his wife cut it off, people have one burning question: does it still work?
Bobbitt gets that question a lot.
In Saturday’s episode of Scandal Made Me Famous, the 49-year-old answers the question by recalling an incident that happened about a week after his surgery, when he got an encouraging sign that the surgery had been successful.
“I called my mom from the hospital,” he laughs. “My mom answered, and I said, ‘Mom, I can’t believe it! I got an erection.’ My mom said, ‘I don’t want to hear that.

Over the years CSI starred Petersen, Helgenberger, Gary Dourdan, George Eads, Paul Guilfoyle, Jorja Fox, Eric Szmanda, Robert David Hall, Louise Lombard, Wallace Langham, Lauren Lee Smith, Laurence Fishburne, Liz Vassey, David Berman, Ted Danson, Elisabeth Harnois,...

CBS has moved CSI: Crime Scene Investigation to Sunday nights at 10pm this season -- typically a sign that a show is on its way out. But, could the ratings turnaround and start to rise? Will the venerable series be renewed for a 16th season or will this be the end? Stay tuned.
The original CSI continues to follow Las Vegas crime scene investigators as they try to solve bizarre cases. This season's castmates are Ted Danson, Elisabeth Shue, George Eads, Jorja Fox, Eric Szmanda, Robert David Hall, Wallace Langham, David Berman, Elisabeth Hamois, and Jon Wellner.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- usually the next day, around...

For the first time since the 2008 writers strike, veteran crime drama CSI won't have a full season of episodes. CBS has reportedly decided to cut season 15's order from 22 to 18 installments.
The original CSI continues to follow Las Vegas crime scene investigators as they try to solve bizarre cases. This season's castmates are Ted Danson, Elisabeth Shue, George Eads, Jorja Fox, Eric Szmanda, Robert David Hall, Wallace Langham, David Berman, Elisabeth Hamois, and Jon Wellner.
The ratings are understandably down year-to-year, thanks to CSI's move to Sunday nights when start-times often get pushed thanks to football over-runs. Still, the numbers aren't bad compared to previous year's timeslot occupants.
The episode trim is supposedly due to the network having too much programming waiting in the wings. New series CSI: Cyber will take over the Sundays at 10pm timeslot later...

Los Angeles — The promoter of Michael Jackson's ill-fated series of comeback shows created a conflict of interest with the singer's physician when it negotiated terms of his deal, an expert testifying for the superstar's mother told a jury Monday.
David Berman told jurors hearing a negligent hiring lawsuit against concert promoter Aeg Live LLC that the company should not have negotiated with Jackson's physician without notifying the singer's representatives of the discussion.
The former head of Capitol Records and holder high-level positions at several other record companies is being paid to testify for Katherine Jackson in her lawsuit against Aeg Live.
Asked whether it was appropriate for the concert company to attempt to hire a doctor on Jackson's behalf, Berman responded: "I believe that it's highly inappropriate. It is highly unusual."
A more appropriate relationship would have been for Jackson to hire cardiologist Conrad Murray without any involvement from Aeg Live,...

CSI received its inevitable renewal – it’s the No. 1 show in its Wedneday 10 p.m. timeslot – taking it to Season 14, and with that extension comes the need to make sure all the cast are signed on to continue their roles. In particular, Ted Danson’s original two-year deal is up, so he needed to renegotiate his contract to ensure his future on the series. Thankfully, it appears as though all the deals have gone through smoothly. No drama; no fuss. Everyone is returning for Season 14 and likely beyond. It’s a good time to be a part of the original CSI crew.
The particulars of Danson’s new deal aren’t all that interesting. According to Deadline, he signed on for another two years and his salary is well over $200,000 per episode. Also returning is Elisabeth Shue – she came on board with Danson as the new co-leads – as well as George Eads,...

Just like it recently did with NCIS and its star Mark Harmon, CBS has signed a new contract extension with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation leading man Ted Danson and simultaneously renewed the veteran crime drama for the 2013-14 season. I hear Danson, whose original two-year deal for the show was up this season, has signed another two-year pact. His salary has been well over $200,000 an episode. Also set to return next season are co-lead Elisabeth Shue and original cast members George Eads, Jorja Fox, Eric Szmanda, Paul Guilfoyle and Robert David Hall, along with Wallace Langham, Elisabeth Harnois, David Berman and Jon Wellner. CSI doesn’t shake things up too often, which could be why it’s currently in its 13th successful season.

Okay, so this one is a little bit old and some of you diehard Harmony Korine or Gaspar Noe fans have probably already seen this. But for those of you who haven't, and especially if you're impatiently awaiting Korine's "Spring Breakers" and/or whatever Noe's next feature will be, this will surely tide you over. Back in 2010, these two filmmaking friends took part in the German series "Durch die Nacht mit..." ("Into The Night") which essentially pairs up two artists, and basically rolls film. Thank God to whoever determined that Korine and Noe should hang out, because the results are pretty great. The pair spent the day goofing in Nashville, where they go a gun range, visit a junkyard, attend a screening of Korine's "Trash Humpers," go have some chicken and talk about all manner of topics. Oh yeah, there's also a random cameo by David Berman of The Silver Jews.

Greg (Eric Szmanda) Catherine (Marg Helgenberger) Db (Ted Danson) and Ecklie (Marc Vann) attend the opening of the Mob museum, officially opened by former Mayor of Las Vegas, Oscar Goodman (Oscar Goodman). Db does the rounds with Ecklie and then talks to Catherine and Greg about the two wives standing with the wife Joanna (Frances Fisher) of the hitman, Vinny Sapphire who killed their husbands. As the Mayor toasts all hell breaks loose as shots are fired shattering his martini glass and hitting him three times. Sheriff Liston (Barbara Eve Harris) also at the event wants Ecklie and Db to get to the bottom of this pronto. The CSIs compare notes and find shots were fired from two different areas of the room. Db finds the gun behind one of the dummies, a .38, as is the weapon of choice in a mob hit and the shooter would always characteristically dump the gun at the scene.

An unexplained series of events occur on a Vegas tram; unexplained until the CSIs are on the case, that is. Nick (George Eads) returns from Hawaii after a seminar to find the joke's on him. The new boss, Db Russell (Ted Danson) lies on the tram floor and Nick thinks he's just a Db, which he is. Db by name, but not a real Db! Nick's reaction to his name, his initials is exactly what I thought when it was revealed who Ted was going to play in the show. Db as many know stands for 'dead body.' The others can only laugh and disappear. Nick isn't too happy to be the butt of their joke and he and Db don't really seem to hit it off - not like Nick and Ray (Laurence Fishburne). Two people were killed on the tram and three were injured. One Vic, Tom (Nathan Anderson) was stabbed.

In a dark, dark house, a struggle ensues between Ray (Laurence Fishburne) and Haskell (Bill Irwin). Ray subdues and cuffs him using regulation issue flex-cuffs. (Important for later.) He then cuts the cuffs and they go head-to-head. Obviously Ray would come out the victor. Before all this, Haskell taunts Ray saying he's killed many. Ray doesn't want to shoot him. Ray would beat Haskell up in that way, with such violence and rage; partly for himself and mostly for Gloria (Tracee Ellis Ross). He knew how to play Ray and that's exactly what Ray did, he went for the taunts. Haskell says they "share something special." He assaulted Gloria, including torturing her and that got Ray's goat. Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) had to arrive first at the scene, so he could help Ray. That's why the camera focused on the cuffs which Ray left on the floor. Brass advises Ray to refrain from speaking with anyone.

Nick (George Eads) and Ray (Laurence Fishburne) searching for a Cs at the beginning, was almost indicative of Ray's search for Haskell (Bill Irwin). Who else would leave DBs in his wake. Nick comments on there being lots of manure here and Ray can smell it, can't help wondering if that was a snide remark about the B.S churned out by Haskell in this episode. No one was really on the ball, I have to say as far as Haskell was concerned. Rray nearly drives into a, "holy cow" as Nick says. Hey Nick should know all about cows from the question Gil (William Petersen) asked him: "What do cows drink?" All those seasons ago. They comes across scattered Db parts in a barn. Ray was oblivious he was stepping in manure. Nick Ids the larvae, as is his new specialty now, so they were dead up to 96+ hours ago.

News reports of Haskell's escape and Ray doesn't want Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) turning off the TV due to him. Brass can't report there have been any sightings of him. Ray explains Haskell isn't any ordinary criminal and so the search for him, that should be manhunt, should also be different. Ray: "Until he makes a mistake, we just satisfy ourselves picking up bodies." Well, like it or not, it's what they do; unfortunately. A man presumed a Db is picked up and brought to autopsy.
