Exclusive: Apple TV+ is expanding its kids and families slate with Be@rbrick, a 13-episode animated kids series based on Medicom Toy’s popular collectible bear-shaped figures, from DreamWorks Animation and Dentsu Inc.
Told through CG animation, Be@rbrick is a music-driven comedy about young singer-songwriter Jasmine and her bandmates as they pursue their dreams and inspire others to do the same. But it won’t be easy to do when living in a world where everyone’s role is chosen for them and where the painted-on look you receive when you graduate from high school determines who you’ll be for the rest of your life. Jasmine realizes that in order for her world to change, she and her friends may have to make it happen themselves.
The series will be animated and produced by DreamWorks Animation and Dentsu Inc., and showrun and executive produced by Meghan McCarthy. Alex Almaguer (TrollsTopia) will serve as supervising producer and Taylor Orci (Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts) will serve as story editor. Athena Hofmann (Curious George) will serve as line producer on the series.
“Be@rbrick marks the latest collaboration for Apple TV+ and DreamWorks Animation, joining GLAAD Media Award nominated Pinecone & Pony, based on Kate Beaton’s book The Princess and the Pony; and Doug Unplugs, based on Dan Yaccarino’s Doug Unplugged book series.
Apple TV+’s kids and families slate includes the Oscar and BAFTA-winning animated short film The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse; animated adventure film Luck from Apple Original Films and Skydance Animation which premiered this year; and, BAFTA Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated animated film Wolfwalkers.

"My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" ran from 2010 to 2019, and famously spawned a group of passionate adult fans who dubbed themselves Bronies. During its nine-year run, the show and its spinoff movies remained popular mainstays of children's entertainment.
Based on a line of Hasbro toys from 1983, the original "My Little Pony" cartoon show was little more than a 30-minute toy commercial, one of many of the era. Despite this, the show became incredibly well-liked by a generation of kids, and the "My Little Pony" shows and toys have continued to be part of the pop consciousness ever since. The original toy line was designed by illustrator Bonnie Zacherle, who also designed the Nurfuls toys in 1985. Incidentally, Bonnie was the niece of legendary horror host John Zacherle.
When "Friendship is Magic" was released in 2010, the ponies themselves were drastically redesigned to have a friendlier, wider-eyed appearance, and the writing on the show just as drastically improved.

Favorites including Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity will all make an appearance, as will a new Little Pony, voiced by Kristin Chenoweth.
Meghan McCarthy, a writer and producer on "Friendship Is Magic," is penning the flick's screenplay, which is said to focus on the ponies embarking on an adventure to save their home. The crew behind the voices of the series's "Mane 6" stars is also set to join the flick, with actors Tara Strong, Cathy Weseluck, Andrea Libman, Tabitha St. Germain, and Ashleigh Ball all set to reprise those roles.

Each year, Dictionary.com adds new words, phrases, and proper nouns to its database. In 2015, the list includes chillax, respawn, and feels, but what do those words mean? What do they connote? In order to answer those questions, Dictionary.com enlisted a group of social media influencers, who offered up their personal definitions for this year’s neologisms.
To create the videos, Dictionary.com teamed up with Collab, which is best known for working with Vine stars. Collab turned to its roster of partners, including Meghan McCarthy, Lizzza, Harmony & Elliot, Matt King, Brock Baker, Rickey Thompson, and Jd Witherspoon, and turned them loose on the dictionary’s new words. The results are a mixed bag. Some of them are earnestly informative; others, such as the video describing “yaaas” (yes, that is a real word now), move more in the cringe comedy direction.

Female representation has been on everyone’s mind lately and the panelists at “Nobody’s Damsel: Writing for the Women of Tomorrow” want to make sure that the sudden interest in female characters is not a temporary shift in public opinion.

Bronies unite: there's a new My Little Pony film on the way...
One of the films we've got queued up on our to-watch disc pile is Laurent Malaquais' documentary Bronies, which comes with the subtitle 'The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans Of My Little Pony'. And we've just picked up the 2014 documentary A Brony Tale, directed by Brent Hodge, as well.
It would be fair to say that My Little Pony geekdom is quite pronounced right now, primarily off the back of the 2010 animated series, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. And Hasbro has been sitting up and taking notice. So much so that it's announced plans for a new My Little Pony big screen adventure, which will arrive in cinemas 21 years after My Little Pony: The Movie (which boasted the voice talents of Danny DeVito and Nancy Cartwright, no less).

The popularity of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic amongst adults still confuses me, but as I’ve yet to actually watch the show I suppose I should stop being snarky about it.
The My Little Pony universe is about to get a lot bigger as a big-screen animated movie has been announced by Hasbro for a release in 2017. I’m not sure if this will be related to the Friendship is Magic TV show but Megan McCarthy, who produces and writes for that show, is on-board the film as an executive producer. Hasbro will produce and finance My Little Pony themselves and are hoping to release it as wide as they can manage.
Stephen Davis, president of Hasbro Studios, had this to say:
“We’ve very excited about the potential of that movie.”
Clearly.
