Let me start off by saying this: I am keenly aware that Maximum Overdrive is not a very good movie at all. In fact, it's a downright terrible movie if you take into consideration its various plot holes and nonsensical conditions established in the film coupled with some very awkward performances and characters that couldn’t be more stereotypical if they tried.
But, for me, what ultimately saves Maximum Overdrive from itself is the fact that at the end of the day, the story as a concept is ridiculous fun, the action is over-the-top crazy with tons of destruction and explosions, and it just seems like director Stephen King had a helluva lot of fun making it (he has since admitted to being under the influence of drugs throughout production, which explains a lot). Despite its imperfections, I still adore this deeply flawed film and you have to admit, there...

To the Lighthouse: Aloupis Crafts Woefully Sluggish Tale of Truck Stop Tendencies
Serving up a generous helping of outsider character study with teenage romance tinged by a demure, rosy hued examination of prostitution is director Tony Aloupis’ debut, Safelight, a film collecting a surprisingly talented cast considering its rather tepid platitudes. A 1970s era slice of nostalgic beats, the truckstop set film is neither a notable throwback to the era it wishes to recall nor an engaging examination of disparate souls coming together across the aching chasms of abuse and cruelty they’ve suffered through.
Disabled teen Charles (Evan Peters) struggles to get through a rather humdrum existence. His mother abandoned him when he was a child, and he’s now stuck caring for his ailing father (Jason Beghe) while he works at a truckstop counter under the caring eye of Peg (Christine Lahti). He has a passion for photography,...

Welcome to another horror/sci-fi round-up! This time around we have word of two big cast confirmations for Independence Day 2, details on Scream Factory's Deep in the Darkness Blu-ray / DVD release, and information on the new Blanc/Biehn Productions film, Treachery.
Independence Day 2: Last night it was revealed that the first official cast member had signed on to star in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day 2, the sequel to his 1996 film that featured massive alien-induced destruction and larger-than-life characters. It's now been confirmed that one of those characters will be coming back, as Emmerich tweeted last night that Jeff Goldblum will appear in the sequel, likely reprising his role as the brainy and dryly humorous David Levinson, who teamed up with fighter pilot Captain Steven Hiller to take down the mothership in the original film. Smith will not be coming back to reprise his role as Steven.

"The Amazing Race" giveth and "The Amazing Race" taketh away. Following a season that saw ratings drop on Fridays, "The Amazing Race" got a special Wednesday showcase after the "Survivor: Worlds Apart" premiere and with both long-running favorites instituting format twists this season, CBS was able to spare 90 minutes apiece for the two launches. Longtime readers know that I'm pretty insistent that you need to have at least a 90-minute premiere for "The Amazing Race," because the effort to establish 11 teams of 22 players while also giving the necessary exposure to navigating around international locations and for various challenges is almost impossible in only 60 minutes. I don't think "The Amazing Race" has ever had an entirely satisfying hour-long premiere. And the 90 minutes given to Wednesday's (February 25) "Amazing Race" premiere were enough to help me see some of the merit to the Blind Dating twist that gave us six teams of established couples,...

A new trailer for contemporary road trip drama, Safelight, has arrived online courtesy of Indiewire. Written and directed by Tony Aloupis, who made his directorial debut on the movie, it originally acquired attention under the name Truck Stop before it was recently retitled. Whatever its monicker, there’s no doubt the light is shining firmly on the film’s two rising stars, Evan Peters and Juno Temple.
In the 70s-set movie, the pair play a couple of friends, Charles and Vicki, who wend their way up the California coast in a bright red convertible. He’s on a mission to snap photos of every lighthouse on their route for a photography contest, and she’s a runaway without anywhere else to go. Their relationship is explored via the good old road trip framework that usually offers plenty of scope for introspection and heady life realizations.

Starring talented up-and-comers Evan Peters and Juno Temple, "Safelight" (formerly "Truck Stop") is a beautifully '70s-set road trip/coming of age tale, complete with a side of that first descent into love. It follows Charles and Vicki (Peters and Temple, respectively) as they make their way up the California coast in a cherry red convertible. Charles is on a quest to photograph every lighthouse in the state as a series he's putting together for a contest. He's a high school student with cerebral palsy and she's a mysterious and troubled runaway, so they have a certain sense of empathy for each other that makes their tentative relationship uncommon yet compelling. "Safelight" is the feature film debut of director/writer Tony Aloupis, who previously created the short film "Sugar." Oklahoma singer-songwriter Parker Millsap has accumulated quite a following with his vivid storytelling and gospel-tinged inspiration. Millsap released his debut album earlier this month after a supporting spot on tour last year with John Fulbright and, more recently, ringing in the New Year with Old Crow Medicine Show. His small-town upbringing and Pentecostal background often weave their way into his songwriting, and no song is a better example than “Truck Stop Gospel.” “In the Midwest, every once in a while you’ll come across a truck stop church,” explains Millsap. “They take an 18-wheeler trailer and put some stairs up to...

Tickets are selling fast for the 46th Annual Awgie Awards, to be held in Melbourne on October 4.
To be hosted by writer, comedian and singer Sammy J, the ceremony will honour the achievements made by Australian writers for performance. The Awgie Awards are the only Australian awards judged solely by writers on the basis of the script . the writer's intention . rather than the finished production.
"The Awgies are the highlight of the year for us and a unique chance to celebrate the oft-unsung but stellar work created by Australian writers of the script," says Awg.s President and Academy Award nominee Jan Sardi..

It's been a while since we've seen a new installment of "Burnout", largely due to the fact its creators were ordered by EA to help revive their floundering "Need For Speed" franchise.
And once it was discovered that the studio behind everyone's crash and burn simulator had basically been disbanded, all hope for proper follow-up was dashed.
But there's always room for spiritual follow-ups. And that's where "Truck Stop" comes int.
It's the creation of Adam “DjArcas” Sawkins, who used to work at Criterion Games, and therefore was involved with "Burnout". As Kotaku point out, its the Crash Mode, one of the best parts of "Burnout", but made into its own thing. And with trucks:
As you can also see, it's awfully rough around the edges at the moment. Also, the whole Mars environment seems somewhat just tossed onto the pile, and the zombie mode sounds equally unoriginal (yet fun nonetheless).

On a startlingly sunny winter day in the Flatiron District, the walking traffic along lower Park Ave. has slowed to a crawl. The culprit: A knot of hungry folks on lunch break who’ve congregated around a bright yellow-green van parked in a choice slot between 23rd and 24th. Some pedestrians grumble as they’re forced to go around — but every so often, one takes a peek at the menu and joins the throng.

The second season premiere of "Outrageous Kid Parties" is on TLC tonight and I've always hated the whole concept of expensive overdone parties for kids under the age of ten. Most of them are mentally and physically exhausted after about two hours and god forbid you drop a huge chunk of cash on a day long petting zoo rental only to have the birthday boy or girl collapse into a tantrum half way through. But my feelings may also stem from the fact that I barely remember most of my childhood birthdays beyond getting cake so I'm really glad my parents got all the decorations from Oriental Trading Company and the cake from Baskin Robbins so I don't have to feel guilty about the fact that all the parties run together in my mind. One of the joys of working on the internet is, of course, your complete and utter helplessness when your equipment decides that it wants to be a bastard. Oh, sure, your computer will tell you that you've got full wireless signal and the modem will have all the little lights on saying that the internet is connected and wireless is working but does that mean you can actually access any websites? No. No it does not. And as satisfying as it would be to throw all those little gadgets that smirk at you with their little Led indicator lights across the room, you know you can't because that will just make the whole situation worse, somehow. And when you finally figure out the right combination of cords and switching it off for 30 seconds and turning it back on to make everything work, it makes even less sense which just aggravates you more.

Tonight, Discovery seems to be airing a non-Shark Week themed show since "One Man Army" is airing at its usual time. I've checked the episode description and nowhere does it mention Anything about sharks so that's frustrating and confusing. They've managed to make episodes of "Mythbusters" and "Dirty Jobs" that were Shark Week themed so I don't know why they can't just do that for all shows that air during Shark Week. And since the same company owns TLC and Discovery channel maybe they could send a few sharks over to "Toddlers and Tiaras" to get these parents to have a little perspective. "What's that? Your little girl doesn't like it when you bleach her hair because it burns? That's a shame. We've got someone to help you deal with those feelings. Actually, several someones. Or somethings. It premiered in South Africa on March 9th, with an official theatrical debut scheduled for March 25, 2011. No word on whether it’ll travel west though. However, since White Wedding had a run in the USA and is now available on home video/VOD, Paradise Stop might as well.

Jessica Sutta is hot and sexy in a music video for her new solo single "I Wanna Be Bad". The former member of The Pussycat Dolls wears 18th century clothes which reveal her garters and undies, suggestively writhing around with her two female companions.
The video is produced by herself. She told Radar Online, "It's been a vision of mine for a while so it was really cool to get in there and produce it myself. Being the producer and the artist you'd think it would be really stressful, but for some reason everything went so smoothly."
"All my close friends were in the video; they're my best girl friends. I had a vision; I love the Marie Antoinette feeling and the girly, decadent kind of feeling in the video...the fantasy of it all."
"I Wanna Be Bad" is expected to make the cut to Sutta's forthcoming solo debut album.

The Grill 'Em All Truck brought the metal and the mettle to the finale of "The Great Food Truck" race on Sunday night (Sept. 19).

Watchmen—The Ultimate Cut (Warner Bros.) Director Zack Snyder’s film of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark graphic novel is as worthy an adaptation of a great book that has ever been filmed. In an alternative version of the year 1985, Richard Nixon is serving his third term as President and super heroes have been outlawed by a congressional act, in spite of the fact that two of the most high-profile “masks,” Dr. Manhattan (Billy Cruddup) and The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) helped the U.S. win the Vietnam War. When The Comedian is found murdered, many former heroes become concerned that a conspiracy is afoot to assassinate retired costumed crime fighters. Former masks Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman) and still-operating Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley, in an Oscar-worthy turn) launch an investigation of their own, all while the Pentagon’s “Doomsday...

Who Is Kk Downey? - DVD Review
There is such a need to become famous nowadays.
When you break it down, fame isn’t really a commodity that can be stored away, saved for later, or preserved. It’s fleeting when and if it happens and it is gone just as quickly. What makes this movie such a delight is its meditation on the nature of fame but it does so with the kind of obnoxiousness that requires a humorist’s touch.

Adult actors who play teenage roles must not only act the part but also look young enough. From a March notice in Back Stage, L.A. actor Chris Reese got cast as a 17-year-old piano player in writer-director Sharon Graine’s play “Truck Stop Café.” It’s an adaptation of the 1987 German-made film “Bagdad Café,” about a group of social misfits who cross paths at a roadside cafe.Reese says he can play young and a bit older and that “those kinds of roles don’t present themselves very often on stage.” His character, a music lover, sings and plays the piano in the play, though Reese readily admits he doesn’t really sing and play much. “But after my performances, people actually come up to me and tell me how great I sang and played the piano,” he says.During the audition, Reese had to become a teenager who was mesmerized by music.
