This year’s fall TV lineup boasts an exciting number of Broadway stars popping up in the mix, particularly in new shows. I’d like to introduce some of these theater vets to avid TV fans — not only to support Broadway actors but also to see if they can, through their TV work, lure TV viewers out of the house and into a Broadway show (or several!).
Tony winners Laura Benanti (Broadway’s Gypsy, Women on the Verge of A Nervous Breakdown) and Julie White (TV’s Grace Under Fire and Broadway’s The Little Dog Laughed) are coming to TV on a series called Go On, starring Matthew Perry (TV’s Friends). In the show, Perry’s character joins a support group run by Benanti and becomes friends with another member of the group, a lesbian widow played by Ms. White. The show...

The air is crisper and cooler; it’s a little darker when I leave the office, and the public pools are closed. I’m always of mixed emotions when we think about the end of summer, until I remember that my DVR will soon be filled with new imaginary friends and enemies. Of course, I’m also happy to see the old ones return — and you should totally have your TV locked on VH1 at all times — but I thought I’d take a second to tell you about the top 10 new shows I’ve had a chance to check out and am already either totally hooked on, or willing to ask out on a second date. Beginning with my favorite…

666 Park Avenue is my personal favorite new show of the season (though I haven’t seen Arrow yet) and I hope you’ll love it too. This poster gives an interesting twist to the campaign – get it? twist? – but should really be seen primarily as a metaphor. Don’t worry, the show won’t require you to take notes and study, it’s just pretty and creepily entertaining. Like the poster!
Presumably we’re getting this new poster because it includes the just-released premiere date, which we told you about earlier. Here’s your friendly reminder-as-to-what-it’s-about trailer and series summary:

Comic-Con 2012 kicked off its preview night at 6:00pm this evening. The event’s kickoff event: the public premiere screenings of five Warner Brothers Television’s 2012 fall pilots. Each of the shows (ABC’s 666 Park Avenue, CW’s Arrow and Cult, NBC’s Revolution, and Fox’s The Following) featured a genre-driven plot, ranging from an apartment building to literally die for to a television show whose fans make Comic-Con veterans look meek by comparison. Below you will find brief synopses and notes on each pilot.
666 Park Avenue
Starting off the marathon was 666 Park Avenue, which features Terry O’Quinn and Vanessa Williams as the owners of a historic New York apartment complex whose influence over the building and its inhabitants are significantly more intense and intimate than your every day landlord. They are joined by Dave Annable and Rachel Taylor as a young couple who move into the building...

666 Park is not the lightest pilot fare being offered up by networks this fall — in fact, it’s downright spooky. But that seemed to please most of Comic-Con goers who attended the pilot screening this evening in San Diego as part of the annual convention.
The show, starring Lost alum Terry O’Quinn, Rachel Taylor, and Vanessa Williams, centers on a young couple (Taylor and Dave Annable) that takes a job as managers of a historic (and totally haunted) apartment building. Quinn and Williams play the mysterious owners of the building.

Fresh off the heels of Mayor Bloomberg's grand announcement that the city would be opening five new soundstages, comes news that a record number of television drama pilots are currently being filmed right here in New York.
According to Deadline, 11 pilots are shooting this season, up from nine last year and Zero in 2010. Which all translates into why New York is yet again superior to Los Angeles! The major uptick in drama pilot production signals the first time New York has eclipsed our west coast rival, all part of a lovely trend that follows last summer's record-breaking 23 television series being filmed in New York.
Our introduction to the 11 pilots contributing to our new source of pride:
666 Park Avenue ABC
This "supernatural-tinged" show will reportedly star Vanessa Williams and "Grey's Anatomy"'s Rachel Taylor. It will focus, like so many other shows, on the drama of living in luxury apartments in the Upper East Side.

We recently rather giddily reported to you the fact that our favorite embodiment of Lost’s Smoke Monster, Terry O’Quinn, has been cast in the pilot of 666 Park Avenue as the owner of the creepy apartment complex. We’re now happy to bring news that casting is continuing for the pilot, and that the lead parts of the couple who unwittingly move in to manage the place have been filled.
Dave Annabele (Brothers and Sisters) and Rachel Taylor (Charlie’s Angels) have been cast as Henry and Jane, according to THR. The series will be based on the books by Gabrielle Pierce. David Wilcox (Fringe) will be adapting the project for the pilot and will be executive producer along with Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. Alex Graves is set to direct.
As always, we’ll keep you posted.

The Darkest Hour has a very enigmatic moniker; the title could be referring the the fact that this movie takes place in a Moscow that has been drained of all electricity following an alien attack. It could be referring to the fact that the events unfolding depict humanity’s most dire moment. Conversely, it could be trading in on the old adage that it is always darkest before the dawn. In that way, more probably (and yet, most likely, less intentionally) the title could be referring to the actual first hour of this sci-fi action thriller. For what begins as a rote, uninspired journey filled with stock characters making bad decisions soon gives way to a bright, beaming sun of inspired madness – a sun that might, oddly, save this film from becoming just another completely wasted opportunity.

Some classics — even the cheesiest ones — are better left in the past, and Charlie's Angels, it seems, is no exception: ABC is shutting down production the reboot from Smallville scribes Al Gough and Miles Millar.
A network representative says the show will continue to air on Thursdays, filling the 8 p.m. slot with an unknown number of episodes. Last night’s hour showed some ratings growth for the first time, climbing a tenth of a point to 6 million viewers and a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating. But it wasn’t enough to reverse the show’s fate.
Why did the reboot fail?...

ABC's Charlie's Angels isn't your ordinary update. Circa '70s and '80s fare has become so popular of late that it's easy to get lost in the sea when looking for examples, including the film versions of this same title, but this one has a somewhat different approach. I'm not at all sure that's a good thing.
Odd in what it does and does not pull from the late-'70s original, there is much in the effort that will cause fans to raise their eyebrows. Insofar as the general spin of the overall arc, there is a guy named Charlie Townsend, and three girls who work for him, and that's about where the similarity ends. Well, there is a Bosley as well, but it's a very different character.
The first thing you'll notice is that the basic premise of the show is completely different, and thereby, its theoretical social purpose.

Kudos to technology for taking what could be run of the mill movie posters and springing them to life as we’ve never seen. The latest The Darkest Hour one-sheet has done just that. Check out the motion poster for the Emile Hirsch alien invasion film below and let us know if it is not the coolest thing!
The Darkest Hour takes the alien invasion story and broadens the parameters. Instead of the United States being the subject of attack, the five young stars are in Moscow and it is Russia that earns the ire of aliens.
Hirsch stars in the Summit Entertainment film with Max Minghella (don’t miss our upcoming exclusive interview with him from Toronto for The Ides of March), Rachel Taylor, Joel Kinnaman and Olivia Thirlby in the film that arrives in theaters on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas indeed.

Forget about being touched by an angel, this fall on ABC, you're more likely to be kicked by one, if the reboot of 'Charlie's Angels' is any indication.
Headed up by 'Smallville' creators Al Gough and Miles Millar and executive produced by Drew Barrymore, the glossy action show is hoping to emulate the success of the reimagined 'Hawaii Five-0' more than the crash and burn of 'Bionic Woman' and 'Knight Rider.'

I just left a special presentation of The Darkest Hour, director Chris Gorak’s follow-up to the underseen Right at Your Door. Summit Entertainment is keeping a lid on this sci-fi survival tale for good reason: it looks too promising to spoil with a flood of advanced footage.
Gorak has worked with writer Jon Spaiths (who has a bit of a say in Prometheus) and producer Timur Bekmambetov (and his visual effects team) on a Russia-set story of people — Emile Hirsch, Rachel Taylor, Joel Kinnaman, Olivia Thirlby, and Max Minghella — who survive a global alien attack where our energy supplies are the primary target. The hook for me was when Gorak said he hopes the film turns the genre on its head since it proffers a scenario where the daytime is scarier than the night. Combine that with Bekmambetov’s...

More than 50 people have been killed and more than 2,000 homes destroyed after an unprecedented heat wave and drought gripped the region. Prior to shutdown The Darkest Hour was filming using the 3D technology of Timur Bekmambetov’s Moscow-based film, commercial, and effects company Bazelevs. Summit is set to release the film on August 5 2011. Green Zone - Screening
Yes, United 93 made me a little ill. With all that shaky-cam movements he’s known for Paul Greengrass has tempered his need to put his cameras on paint shakers. Thank the heavens for that as I was able to enjoy the last Bourne film with much more interest.

Splinterheads
Directed by: Brant Sersen
Cast: Thomas Middleditch, Rachel Taylor, Lea Thompson, Jason Rogel
Running Time: 1hr 34 min
Rating: R
Release Date: November 13, 2009
Plot: Justin (Middleditch) is an average guy living an average life when his world is shaken up by the arrival of a traveling carnival and a bewitching splinterhead (Taylor). I’d call her a carnie, but the movie is very specific about the difference between the two.
Who’S It For? If you liked Napolean Dynamite, you’ll love Splinterheads. It isn’t that the films are similar in plot, but they are both consummate charmers.
Expectations: None. I had no idea. Bayer sent Splinterheads as a screener to my home, and usually he sends me screeners like, Toast and the Civil War: Rye So Sad?, so I did assume it would drag in parts.
