FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner Lionel Messi, who had said the tournament in Qatar would be his last World Cup but has now shown a change of heart over his possible retirement from international football.
On Sunday, the 35-year-old guided his country to its third title and his one following a 4-2 shootout win over France.
“I want to play a few more games as a world champion. I was lucky to clinch every title in my career; this was the only one missing. I want to take this one there (to Argentina) and enjoy it with everybody else,” said Messi, who won the Golden boot, becoming the first man to do so twice.
Messi opened the scoring for Argentina with a 23rd-minute penalty and also found the net in extra-time for the 3-2 in the 108th. Kylian Mbappe completed his hat-trick to take the game to a shootout,...

Doha, Nov 21 (Ians) Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has sounded a battle cry ahead of his side’s debut in the 2022 World Cup finals later on Monday, saying he believes his team can lift the title that has always eluded them.
The Dutch were runners-up to Germany in 1974 and to Argentina in 1978. They were beaten by Andres Iniesta’s injury time goal for Spain in South Africa in 2010.
Van Gaal led the Dutch to third place in the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil, with a team that included players such as Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie and Wesley Sneijder, but in his press conference ahead of Monday’s game against Senegal, the coach insisted his current side is better, reports Xinhua.
This Netherlands team is led by Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and also includes Fc Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

Gareth Bale isn’t having a great time of it at present. Over midway through his second season after completing a world transfer record move to Real Madrid and the cracks are starting to appear in the relationship between player and club. It was a strong debut season for Bale at Los Blancos. He scored 22 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions. His brilliant individual run and finish helped overcome Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey final. A headed goal in the Champions League final against fierce city rivals Atletico helped secure Real their long targeted La Decima. Yet much like a musician’s oft quoted difficult second album, there appears little chance of repeating his heroics a second time around.
A succession of embarrassing defeats and insipid performances the season after has soured the post-honeymoon period for Bale and Real alike, culminating in a defeat to fierce rivals Barcelona that...

Juventus have renewed their interest in Manchester United winger Nani, according to the Express.
The Italian giants, along with free-spending French side Monaco, went in for the 27-year-old over the summer, though a move failed to come to fruition.
Since then, Nani has signed a new, five-year-contract at United, while it today emerged the Portuguese flier will be out “for a few weeks” with a hamstring injury.
Yet it appears as though Juve are undeterred, and are prepared to rekindle their interest in January, according to reports on the continent.
Italian tabloid Tuttosport claims Antonio Conte is a big fan of Nani, and believes the ex-Lisbon man could compliment his side’s style of play.
United boss David Moyes is understood to be contemplating a massive clear-out in January, with Nani and fellow winger Antonio Valencia among those tipped to exit the club.

The summer transfer window brought about a high level of confusion at Manchester United, with new manager David Moyes’ only signing being the hirsute figure of Marouane Fellaini, a player who the club still don’t really need nearly four months later.
The club were heavily linked with Wesley Sneijder, Ander Herrera and Cesc Fabregas, which just shows how mangled their targets were over the summer. The reason being all these players are completely different midfielders to each other, so there was a dire need for clarity at Old Trafford, with the gap for a creative midfielder being evident but what sort being less clear.
The fact that Moyes opted for Fellaini showed that they weren’t really certain and were buying for buying sake, with the giant Belgian neither one thing nor the other.
What is an even bigger and more confusing surprise however is that...

Premier League champions Manchester United are weighing up whether to revive their interest in long-term target Wesley Sneijder.
Reports in the Guardian say Red Devils manager David Moyes is thinking of turning to the Dutch playmaker, 29, to solve his midfield creativity woes. Sneijder is understood to have a £13 million release clause in his contract at Galatasaray – a fee which United could be willing to meet in January.
Sneijder, a Champions League winner with Inter Milan and World Cup finalist in 2010, came close to signing for the Red Devils two years ago. The deal fell through, however, because of contractual issues. He is under contract with Galatasaray until 2016.
In other United transfer news, the Daily Mail claims Barcelona have stolen a march on other top European clubs in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund holding midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Manchester United manager David Moyes may use Nani and Antonio Valencia as bait in his efforts to sign Galatsaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder, according to the Express.
Reports in Turkey suggest United will return for Sneijder in January having missed out with a £6 million summer bid, the former Real Madrid star instead opting to leave Inter Milan for Gala.
It is thought the defending English champions were willing to test the Turkish giant’s resolve to hang on to the Netherlands international with a £12 million January offer.
But it is now understood United are more interested in a player-swap deal rather than a straight-cash bid.
Both Nani and Valencia have failed to impress at Old Trafford this season, the latter of whom has only completed a full 90 minutes of Premier League football once all season.

Real Madrid will be without Cristiano Ronaldo for the visit of Galatasaray on Wednesday.
The Portuguese talisman is out with a muscle strain and will be replaced by one of Angel Di Maria or Spain U-21 prospect Jesse, according to manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Centre-back Raphael Varane, left-back Fabio Coentrao and midfielder Sami Khedira are also out.
Roberto Mancini’s Galatasaray also have a series of injury concerns of their own. Wesley Sneijder is a doubt and Hamit Altintop, Aydin Yilmaz, Engin Baytar, Yekta Kurtulus and Fernando Muslera are all sidelined.
The good news is that former Chelsea star Didier Drogba is fit, and is expected to start after coming off the bench against Sivasspor at the weekend.

Manchester United are “close” to securing a deal for Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara, according to Espn, and could even announce his signing by the end of the week.
Club sources claim the situation has taken a positive turn over the last couple of days, but one Old Trafford official admitted the process has often been a difficult one, likening it to the negotiations for Wesley Sneijder in 2011.
The difference is however there is now a growing sense of belief that the move for the 22-year-old will be successful, with hopes that United might even be able to announce the transfer at new manager David Moyes’ first official press conference this Friday, July 5th.
Spanish newspaper Sport reported reported yesterday that one of the main stumbling blocks in the Premier League champions’ pursuit of the player is that he is seeking a similar contract clause to the one he has built...

The tedium of the reporting of the quagmire that has come from Sir Alex Ferguson’s statement that Wayne Rooney had asked to leave Old Trafford has just been nothing short of incredible.
Firstly, let me say this: Wayne Rooney will not, I repeat not be playing for Arsenal next season.
The notion that a club with such a strict wage structure and poor recent record in all of the tournaments that count (i.e. not the Emirates Cup), should be linked with the best English player in the division is laughable. Lest we forget, roughly one year ago they probably could have kept Robin Van Persie for considerably less per week than Wazza is likely to want should he seek pastures new.
The Daily Star is peddling the nonsense story of Arsene Wenger’s hope that ‘he would be playing with England team mates Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and...

Galatasaray midfielder, Wesley Sneijder, is being linked with a move to Chelsea and a reunion with former manager Jose Mourinho, according to a report in The Sun.
The Dutchman only signed for the Turkish side from Inter Milan for a fee of £7 million in January on a three-and-a-half year deal, but a summer offer from Chelsea could tempt him to push through a deal that would end the agreement early.
28-year-old Sneijder has struggled in his first few months with the Turkish champions, who are reportedly willing to listen to ‘reasonable’ offers for the player. Sneijder has made 23 appearances since his move to Turkey, scoring just four goals in all competitions. The former Milan star now sees Stamford Bridge as a potential escape route from the Turkish league.

Cristiano Ronaldo could join Jose Mourinho on the plane from Madrid to London this summer, according to talkSPORT.
The Real Madrid winger could be set for a move away from the La Liga side at the end of the season after claiming he was “sad” with life at the Bernabeu earlier in the season.
Now Chelsea could make a double swoop on the dethroned Spanish champions by landing both manager Mourinho and Ronaldo, according to former Madrid president Ramon Calderon.
Mourinho has already agreed to part ways with the Spanish side and Calderon, president between 2006 and 2009, believes the former Manchester United star could be the next to do so.

Another round of fixtures have gone by and once again Gareth Bale has grabbed the headlines. His 2 goals to seal a 3-2 victory for Tottenham against West Ham capped another breathtaking performance from the Welshman. He is undoubtedly the most exciting player Spurs have had in a very long time.
Unfortunately for Spurs, though, the fact that they aren’t as massive a club as some means the inevitable talk surrounds Bale’s departure from White Hart Lane, and not his long term future there. The instinctive questions to ask, then, would be where will he go? What country would attract him the most and who could actually afford him? If Liverpool can splash out £30 million on Andy Carroll then who knows what kind of figure Gareth Bale will attract.
There are surely a number of clubs throughout Europe who would consider themselves to have perhaps even an outside chance of signing Bale.

Wesley Sneijder has been linked with a move away from the San Siro ever since the 2010 World Cup, and many thought the next stop on his CV would be Old Trafford.
People were under the impression that Sneijder would be the solution to all of Manchester United’s midfield problems. However, after a protracted stalemate with Inter Milan, Sneijder was forced to move away. His destination though was probably not what he had in mind.
Sneijder’s appeals to Premier League clubs seemed to be in vain as no club put forward any real interest. So after all that time, it would appear that Sir Alex thought that Sneijder was not the answer.

Inter Milan attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho has dealt Liverpool a huge blow by insisting he wants to stay in Italy, according to talksport.
The 20-year old is considered the most exciting young prospect in South American football and Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing the Brazilian to Anfield to add some flair and attacking impetus to his side.
It was thought that Inter would be willing to listen to offers, with the player valued at £10 million.
But Coutinho doesn’t want to leave the San Siro.
He told Sky Italia:
“The Liverpool offer? I’m happy with these offers, because it means I am doing my job well.

When Ryan Bennett deflected Raheem Sterling’s cross into his own net, Liverpool notched their fifth goal of the game against Chris Hughton’s admirable but ultimately outclassed Norwich City. Not only this, at that point Liverpool registered their 40th league goal of the campaign. Last season the Reds didn’t hit that mark until the 33rd game, specifically Andy Carroll’s injury time winner against Blackburn in that wacky 3-2 epic at Ewood Park. Last Saturday’s fixture against the Canaries was, in contrast, only the 23rd game. Further than this, last season Liverpool only scored three or more goals on seven separate occasions in the league. Again, that mark was equaled at the weekend.
At the other end of the park, a defence many claim is performing worse this season have registered 9 clean sheets so far. In 2011/2012, after the full 38-game campaign was said and done, only 11 clean sheets had been recorded.

Liverpool look set to make Inter Milan midfielder Philippe Coutinho their second January transfer signing after agreeing to improve their initial offer of £5 million, according to the Liverpool Echo.

There has been much discussion amongst Liverpool fans about the need for a big impact signing, possibly in the form of Dutch maestro, Wesley Sneijder. Of course Sneijder is going to come with a large price tag – not just his $10 million pound transfer fee but his extortionate wages – which if signed by Liverpool would make him a higher earner than captain Steven Gerrard and superstar Luis Suarez. That shouldn’t happen, especially with Sneijder’s injury issues and his worth to Liverpool upon his signing.
Please Note: Since this article was drafted, Sneijder now looks close to moving to Galatasaray.
A big price does not always correlate to a good player. Prices can get pushed up for various reasons: the buying club may be desperate, the buying club may have excessive funds and are there to be exploited or the player is so valuable to the selling club that they...

The 28-year old currently earns £6.5 million a year after tax which has only served to price him out of a move away from Inter Milan, whom he has not played for since September after refusing to accept a wage cut.
His breakdown in relations with Inter means he will almost certainly leave Milan before the winter transfer window closes, and it was widely believed that he would join Turkish side Galatasaray, who had a £6.3 million offer accepted by Milan, only for the midfielder to stall on the move.
The Turkish outfit will give Sneijder until next week to decide if he will put pen to paper on a £100,000-per-week contract, and Rodgers could be waiting in the wings if it falls through.

Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder is still no nearer to finding a new club despite being urged into making a quick decision by club President Massimo Moratti, according to the Daily Mail.
On Monday Moratti set Sneijder a deadline to decide on his future by the end of the day, but that period has been and gone with the creative Dutchman still undecided on his next move.
He had been heavily linked with a move to Turkish outfit Galatasaray, to the point of his club accepting a reported £8.3 million bid, but the move stalled and we reported nearly a week ago that he preferred a move to the Barclay’s Premier League instead.
Now the Dutchman appears to be waiting for an 11th hour bid, possibly from a top Premier League team. Manchester United have been heavily linked with the player in the past, but were deterred by his £200,000-a-week wage demands.

Wesley Sneijder’s proposed move to Turkish side Galatasaray may have stalled, according to the Associated Press.
It was understood the Dutch midfielder would sign for the Turkish outfit this weekend, and although Galatasaray have reportedly reached agreement with Inter Milan to sign the player, they appear to be struggling to convince the midfielder that a move to Istanbul is the right option.
A brief statement from Galatasaray this afternoon said a deal was reached with Inter but that talks with Sneijder were “ongoing”.
Sneijder hasn’t played a competitive game since September last year having been left out in the cold by Inter Milan after refusing to accept a wage-cut. He has been told by angry officials that he will never play for the club again unless he gives in to their demands.

The Daily Mail newspaper reports that Dutch superstar Wesley Sneijder will turn down the offers from the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to join Galatasaray this transfer window.
The piece carries quotes from Galatasaray club president saying that the club are close to finalising a deal with Inter President Massimo Moratti:
‘I had dinner with Massimo Moratti in Italy, on Monday,’ he reportedly told Gstv. ‘We spoke about how we can co-operate on football academies.
‘The Wesley Sneijder topic was also on table. I can say we made positive progress on the prospect of signing Sneijder.
‘I suppose it will be clear in a few days. We will negotiate the terms and hopefully get a discount on Sneijder’s fee.
‘If they will agree on our offer financially then this move will be finalised.’

Inter Milan outcast Wesley Sneijder has been offered to relegation-troubled Premier League side Queens Park Rangers by an agent, according to manager Harry Redknapp and a report on Teamtalk.com.
The Dutch midfielder is involved in a bitter wage dispute with Milan and has been told by the club that he will never play for them again unless he agrees to a wage cut, something which the player is not willing to accept.
This has triggered interest from a number of clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and long-term admirers Manchester United, who were linked with a move for the player continuously throughout the summer of 2011.
However, it is the Premier League basement club that have reportedly been offered the player’s services.
Redknapp told The Sun:
“I was asked by one agent if I wanted to sign Sneijder. Of course I do. However, he’s on about £200,000 a week and...

Liverpool have been linked with a host of names this January, as tends to happen every time the transfer window opens, and newspapers feel the need to spin paper-selling stories regardless of the credence of the sources. In this article, I’ve reviewed all of the big rumours and debunked them all, sorting them into fact or fiction so you don’t have to.
Please be sure to note: these have been judged on the likelihood of happening this January and not necessarily in future windows.

So – here it goes, in no particular order:
1. David Villa (Mirror) – No Way!
Liverpool are only interested in a loan move, which is not happening, as Barcelona apparently want a £16 million permanent transfer.

Chelsea are set to unveil new signing Demba Ba this week, whilst Frank Lampard could finally leave the club, according to a report on The Sun Online.

Manchester United boss Sir. Alex Ferguson is reportedly lining up an ambitious late move for Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder, according to a report at Caught Offside.

United’s offer will apparently include Portguese winger Nani going in the opposite direction in the hopes that Inter Milan boss Andrea Stramaccioni would be willing to negotiate a player swap/transfer fee deal.

Is it just me or is it not supposed to be the other way around. Say a manager starts to hear murmurs of discontent from his once loyal fans as his team get embarrassingly eliminated from Europe not once but twice then he clumsily lets the league title slip through his fingers into the eager grasp of his noisy neighbours. Less tenured managers might be feeling the heat from the boardroom as he quickly tries to update his CV after hearing he had received the dreaded vote of confidence.
This however is not the way at Old Trafford as was proven at a press conference during Manchester United’s latest pre season world trek. Such is the weight of power that Sir Alex commands and such is the disdain the United faithful have for the Glazer’s that once again he is forced to come out and defend his American owners.

After Bert Van Marwijk resigned as Holland coach after a disastrous Euro 2012 showing, can Holland rebuild for the 2014 World Cup?
It is a question that may have sounded inane after the 2010 World Cup. Then, Van Marwijk led Holland to the final, eliminating giants Brazil in the process. Hoping to win the competition for the first time in their history, having reached two consecutive finals in 1974/78, it was ultimately Spain who broke their hearts that year and to date, Holland have only ever won one major tournament – Euro 1988.
In this years Euro’s, despite being the highest goalscorers in qualifying, Holland failed to earn a single point in Group B – the so called “Group of Death” – having lost to Denmark, Germany and Portugal to finish with an embarrassing zero points.
Before this dramatic reversal in fortunes, they were World Number 1 in the Fifa Rankings in August last year.

As Group B gets under way today, football fans across Europe will clamour in front of the television in eager expectation for what is expected to be one of the more competitive round of fixtures in the Group Stages. Holland, Germany, Portugal and Denmark will all cross swords, and only two can progress.
So, who will be the big name casualties of the so called “Group of Death”?
Holland
The Netherland’s haven’t won the European Championship since 1988, though in the last three Championships they have reached two semi-finals and one quarter final. With 37 goals, they were the highest scoring team in qualifying for the Euro’s.

Manchester City want to make Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder their first summer signing, according to Football Italia.
After Eden Hazard snubbed the Etihad for Stamford Bridge this week, the Premier League Champions are looking to make a statement of intent for next season. Things have been unusually quiet for the notoriously high spenders in the transfer market so far as the teams around them have strengthened, with Podolski joining Arsenal, Hazard joining Chelsea and Kagawa set to join United.
However, City have finally moved into action, and according to Italian newspaper Gazetto dello Sport are set to meet Inter’s asking price of around £30 million.
The transfer would be a crushing blow for Manchester United, who have long been admirers of the Dutchman.
The former Ajax and Real Madrid player has scored 19 goals in 108 appearances for Inter, and has provided 32 assists. He is set to feature for Holland at...

Final Position: 2nd
After yesterday trying to convince you all that Manchester City, Premier League Champions, had a poor season, I now turn my intention to putting forward the notion that Manchester United, who finished 2nd, had a very good season. Don’t say I’m not ambitious.
My simple matter rests on this; Manchester United never expected to win the Premier League this season. Yes it can be argued that they always expect to win the Premier League, but this was quite obviously a transitional year as they tried to introduce youngsters like De Gea, Smalling, Evans, Jones, Welbeck, Cleverley to be prepared for a long term title challenge. The fact that they managed one this year with a young squad, a rather large injury crisis, a goalkeeper who looks like, before he came here, he had never eaten a meal larger than a spoonful and Johnny Evans starting...

In Ian Fleming's James Bond novel "Goldfinger," there's this line: "Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is an enemy action."
It remains to be seen if what's going on with Morgan is, in fact, an enemy action, but by the end of Friday's (Nov. 4) "Chuck," it's become pretty clear that Mr. Grimes is not quite himself.
Not recognizing Chuck's Indiana Jones reference, you could chalk up to him not paying full attention in the heat of the moment. Not caring about Trilogy Night? Odd, but he's obviously upset at the baby steps Chuck, Sarah and Casey are forcing him to take with the Intersect.
But betraying his best friend And not knowing who Luke Skywalker is? This is not the Morgan Grimes we know.
"Chuck vs. the Bearded Bandit" felt like a more confident step in exploring the Morgan-as-Intersect story, even if where that step led is kind of disturbing.

After yesterday’s resolution to the Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona transfer saga, one question alone should now be dominating the corridors of Arsenal’s camp, just as it most certainly will be among fans: how do we replace the captain and strongest midfielder?
The Fabregas question is one that comes with a unique set of issues based on what the player offered to the team: he was invariably called their playmaker, the conduit through which the majority of their progressive play came, but he was perhaps better considered as Arsenal’s cornerstone. His defensive duties were after all just as important a part of his game, and in last season’s capitulation against Newcastle United, in which the team conspired to through away a four goal lead, it was no small coincidence that he was conspicuously absent in those duties during the second half.
So Arsenal don’t just need...

Jeff Fahey and Justin Hartley are set to take part in the final season of "Chuck". An NBC spokesperson has confirmed that both actors will guest star in the second episode of season 5 as brothers.
The Frank Lapidus of "Lost", Fahey, will play Karl Sneijder, the president and CEO of diamond giant Natal Jewelers with mines in South Africa. Although CIA has kept a watch on him for alleged criminal activity, it hasn't been able to collect enough evidence to charge him.
Hartley, who is best known for his role as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on "Smallville", will take the role of Wesley Sneijder, Karl's younger brother who works as an anthropologist. Although Wesley has successfully kept himself away from his brother's shady dealings, he could not stay away completely from the dirty things when Karl's enemies kidnap him.

"Chuck" has always been a magnet for guest stars with serious geek cred, and its fifth and final season is certainly no exception. "Smallville" actor Justin Hartley tweeted on Tuesday that he's having a great time on set, and Zap2it has confirmed that he will be guest starring in the second episode of the season alongside Jeff Fahey, who starred on "Lost" as pilot Frank Lapidus.
Fahey plays Karl Sneijder, who, as the boss of a diamond company with mines in South Africa, has been investigated by the CIA in the past for alleged criminal activity. They've never been able to pin anything on him.
Hartley will star as Wesley Sneijder, Karl's handsome younger brother. A Dartmouth and Oxford-educated anthropologist, Wesley has always done his best to stay out of his brother's business, wanting nothing to do with the "world of espionage and spies."
Of course... he isn't given...
