I gotta be honest, I wasn't looking forward to the Fargo Season 3 finale. There were a lot of balls up in the air and no clear way to tie off all the dangling plot threads. Last season's finale, with the crazy motel shootout and the sudden spaceship appearance, kind of left a bad taste in my mouth -- don't give me space aliens in my neo-noir, crime drama and then fail to explain it. Unfortunately, as events in this finale play out, prepare to be somewhat disappointed... but in a good way, I guess.
Gloria (Carrie Coon) writes a resignation letter in the cold opening, she's cleaned out her desk and headed for the door when the phone rings. IRS guy, Larue Dollard (Hamish Linklater), has built an epic case of fraud, money laundering, and tax evasion -- some of it actually illegal. Nikki (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) sent the care package to Dollard to take down Emmit. He's papered his conference room walls with the documents, it looks like a big deal but it's really not -- we later learn this is all just a false show of bravado, another red herring in a season of red herrings, and it makes the case (again) that we can't trust our eyes.

However, with that single phone call everything changes. Gloria's back... in an IRS team-up! What? Not the sexy, dramatic moment you were hoping for? Ok, then how about Nikki and Mr. Wrench (Russell Harvard) sawing-off shotguns and prepping for a heavy assault inside a dimly lit motel room. That's more like it, amirite?
Varga (David Thewlis) has sequestered Emmit (Ewan McGregor) in his house, playing out this minor subplot's endgame. He's surrounded himself with a platoon of patrolling gunmen, fearful of the Swango and Wrench alliance -- rightly so. Emmit is tired, he just wants it all to be over, and though he makes a desperate play to kill Varga, he predictably fizzles. Emmit's story (and by extension, Ray's story too) is the least interesting of the season; things just happen to Emmit and he does little to stop them. It's not that Emmit is an unsympathetic character, rather it's that he's barely present at all, an ultimately inconsequential plot device. Fargo Season 3 has been all about Varga, Nikki, and Gloria.
Nikki lures Varga and his fireteam to an abandoned storage facility. They head for a third floor rendezvous, which is shot like a horror movie. A grim corridor of death awaits as they exit the elevator -- It's a trap (sorry, my inner Star Wars nerd got loose for a moment)!!! Shockingly, we don't witness the bloody ambush -- creator Noah Hawley is showing restraint? Naturally, Varga makes a hasty exit, sacrificing his own men to save himself. Nikki and Wrench subsequently settle their accounts, and Wrench reluctantly walks away with a pile of cash -- he's proven to be the most loyal and honest broker in this warped season, next to Gloria of course.
And then there's Ruby Goldfarb (Mary McDonnell). I kept wondering what an actress of her stature was doing in such a tiny cameo role? It didn't add up. And now we know why: she was the big boss all along; the least among us rises again. Goldfarb takes over Stussy Enterprises and shows Emmit the door in an epic power play!
Feels like we all need a warm hug in a nice Minnesota quilt, eh?
Alas, Nikki's story ends in tragedy and disgrace. She tracks down Emmit on a lonely stretch of Minnesota highway and levels a shotgun on him... until a state trooper rolls up and things go South. I can't say it makes much sense, Nikki is a smart character, a survivor -- it betrays her intelligence to go out in such a stupid fashion. But she's happier now, I guess, reunited with Ray (if you believe in that kind of thing).
But wait, there's more! Another time jump, and it's five years later. Emmit has reconciled with his family; Sy is... alive; Varga's still in the wind; and the big IRS case resulted in a limp misdemeanor and probation (Emmit's illicit earnings allegedly stashed overseas), until Mr. Wrench proves his loyalty one last time and finally settles Nikki's score with Emmit.
On a more positive note, Gloria has moved on, she's a special agent in the Department of Homeland Security. Varga turns up in a Dhs holding cell, and so we finally get our Gloria vs. Varga faceoff (referring to himself now as Daniel Rand, a software salesman out of Brussels -- Hawley is a Marvel fan too, apparently). We've come full-circle, the ending scene is reminiscent of the season's cold opening in East Germany. The dialog here is sharp and there's a fun back-and-forth tension to the scene, but it doesn't tell us very much. Varga tries to convince Gloria that he is about to go free and she contends that he's headed for federal lockup... we wait for the door behind Gloria to open. Will Varga, Rand, the Devil, or whoever he truly is walk away free or in handcuffs? The clocks ticks down and the lights go dark, roll credits. Hunh?
It's a convoluted, kind of unsatisfying ending... but I gotta give Hawley credit, he avoided the formula. I'm glad the season ended on character rather than spectacle. Season 3 really didn't connect with Seasons 1 and 2, and that's Ok. There's no good way to end any complicated story, particularly one this quirky and oddball. What's actually so surprising about this finale is that it's all about the ladies. Noah Hawley is a progressive! It's not the slam bang ending we were expecting, but dammit, it's the ending we deserved! We wish you well in your future endeavors agent Burgle, it's well-earned.

For months now, Fargo has entertained us with bus crashes, air conditioner murders, Hollywood sleazeballs, bridge tournaments, fake sex tapes and interdepartmental police squabbles. All the while, creator Noah Hawley has dropped us into a place where bad dudes manipulate the culture via hacking, trolling and outright lies – nothing like the world you see outside your front door, in other words. But after all its spectacular violence, unapologetic wackiness and barbed satire, this season ultimately ends quietly and elliptically, just the way it began – with a scene where a government...

It goes without saying that we live in a very fragile political ecosystem (though for the sake of being a completionist, we'll go ahead and say it anyway). On one end you have folks who are quick to offend at every little thing, and on the other end, you have folks who want to be able to say whatever they feel like without thinking about the impact it may have on others’ lives. In our increasingly global world, however, the former is an inevitability, as it brings us closer together than ever to people who are different from ourselves. It’s made folks more aware than ever of other races that have perhaps been misrepresented in Hollywood, and you only need to look as far as the controversies surrounding Doctor Strange and Ghost in the Shell to see that our awareness is ever-increasing.
This whole political idea makes things a bit difficult for actors,...

We do not have long to wait for the next Marvel Netflix series to come out, as Iron Fist premiers in just a little over a month. However, the plot has been kept fairly under wraps with the IMDb synopsis simply reading, "A young man is bestowed with incredible martial arts skills and a mystical force known as the Iron Fist. " I know Reddit has posted a few spoilers, but nothing has been confirmed, although they did give us a few unreleased promo pics today.

Unfortunately the "Living Weapon" is not wearing that costume fans have been so desperate to get a glimpse of, but we do get a good look at Rand's iconic tattoo. In the comics, Iron Fist defeats an immortal dragon named Shou-Lao to earn his ink, but something tells me it won't play out exactly like that on the show. The final hero for Marvel's upcoming The Defenders just got a teaser trailer at New York Comic-Con. Iron Fist will continue to expand the mystical side of the Marvel cineverse. The teaser trailer gives us a few bits of action and a glimpse into Daniel Rand's, aka Iron Fist's, past. Finn Jones as the title character really looks like he's pulling off the choreography. I wonder how much his final look will match the comics.
This partnership between Netflix and Marvel is one of the best things to happen for geek television. While the shows lack the large budget to create the scope and spectacle of the movies, they have the time to really develop the characters. Think about it, we've had 26 hours of Daredevil, versus say Iron Man, who's been in 6 films for around 12 hours. If Marvel doesn't use the Defenders in Avengers: Infinity Wars it will be a huge missed opportunity,...

Thanks to McU Exchange, we have a first glimpse of Marvel's new Iron Fist comic book, which will serve as a prequel to the upcoming Netflix series. As you can see, the cover features an artist's interpretation of former Game of Thrones star (unlucky, Ser Loras) Finn Jones, who will harness his chi to fight crime as Danny Rand on the show. We recently got an Iron Fist announcement teaser, so perhaps a proper trailer will premiere at Nycc over the weekend? Keep an eye on Cbm for updates. Thanks to @mikashaye and The Nerd Truth on Instagram we have the following images from the NY set of Marvel and Netflix's Iron Fist. They give us our first look at Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), who seems to be in the process of training/sparring with Danny Rand (Finn Jones). Game of Thrones fans will know Henwick as the deadly Nymeria Sand, and from the looks of these pics her take on Miss Wing is going to be pretty handy herself. Update: Okay... this is no sparring session! The images are copyrighted, but if you click Here and Here you'll see that Wing and Rand seem to be engaged in mortal combat. Poor Danny Rand hasn't been having a very nice time of it in pretty much everything we've seen so far from Marvel and Netflix's Iron Fist (plane crash, hospitalization, shoelessness) and that continues with this latest batch of images from the show's New York set. In them we find Rand (Finn Jones) grounded with what appears to be a nasty injury to his side. It seems Iron Fist's enemies are going to be a match for his skills... in the beginning, at least. In the comics Rand can summon his chi to heal his wounds, so either that won't be carried over to the show, he hasn't mastered that particular ability yet, or that's exactly what he's doing here. You can check out the rest of the pics Here. Daniel Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New...

“Corporate stuff” is to blame for the lack of crossover between Marvel’s Netflix series and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D, according to Clark Gregg.
Appearing on the Nerd HQ podcast at San Diego Comic-Con (thanks, /Film), the series stalwart conceded that although he would love to see the likes of Luke Cage or Iron Fist swing by S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ, such a slice of fan service is unlikely to happen now that Marvel’s TV content is essentially divided across Netflix and ABC.
Whereas the key figures of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are at liberty to move freely from one blockbuster to the next, red tape looks to be the main culprit that is preventing such a crossover from carrying over to the small-screen.

We got our first glimpse of Finn Jones as Danny Rand via these set pics last night, but now thanks to Just Jared we have some much clearer image of the Game of Thrones actor as a rather dishevelled looking soon-to-be Iron Fist. Plus, we have our first look at former 90210 actress Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum. Apparently the scene being filmed involves Rand running over to greet Joy as she leaves her apartment. His childhood pal is evidently very surprised to see him... and not necessarily pleasantly. Daniel Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years. Brett Chan has been added as a stunt coordinator on Marvel’s Iron Fist, where he’ll help shape and guide the mystical martial arts of the titular superhero for the Netflix series.
If that names sounds familiar, it’s because Chan previously helped out another Netflix show, Marco Polo, with its dependably awe-inspiring fight sequences. Besides that series, Chan has a history of working on films like X2: X-Men United, Blade: Trinity, and even in the small-screen DC universe with Arrow.

First reported as a rumor earlier this morning over at The Hashtag Show, Marvel and Netflix smartly opted to not bother denying and just went ahead and officially confirmed the news with EW - "Game of Thrones" actor Finn Jones has scored the title role in the "Iron Fist" series.
The project is the fourth and final hero series in the original deal between Marvel and Netflix to adapt four of Marvel's properties into original series on the streaming service. A mini-series event, "The Defenders," starring the title characters from all four series is also on the way but a schedule hasn't yet been made clear.
The story focuses on Daniel Rand and his return to New York City after being missing for four years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the power of the fiery Iron Fist.

"Dexter" and "Jessica Jones" writer Scott Reynolds reportedly confirmed (via Sciencefiction.com) that he has come onboard as a writer on Netflix's fourth Marvel series "Iron Fist".
The project mostly remains shrouded in secrecy at this point, though Reynolds would join Scott Buck who serves as the showrunner on "Iron Fist" and previously worked with Reynolds on "Dexter".
In the series, Daniel Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years and fights against the criminal element corrupting it with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the power of the fiery Iron Fist.
The news broke as Mike Colter, who starred in the second Marvel & Netflix series "Jessica Jones" and is the title star of the third "Luke Cage," revealed to Collider that the role of Danny Rand (alter-ego of Iron Fist) has already been cast:
"The actor has been cast, but he's in a basement somewhere.

With season two of Daredevil set to premiere in March and Luke Cage currently shooting, it’s odd that we still haven’t had any casting news for Iron Fist. Troubling rumours at one point claimed the series was being scrapped by Marvel and Netflix, though the TV division’s head honcho Jeph Loeb was quick to deny that last year.
While that was initially met with some scepticism, the fact that a showrunner has finally been locked down is very good news indeed (even if it is the guy who was in charge of the weakest seasons of Dexter), and now fans are anxiously awaiting casting news for the final member of the team of Defenders that Marvel are assembling.

The ball seems to be rolling with "Iron Fist" and the show he'll be getting on Netflix. In the past Iron Fist seemed to be in creative limbo. Almost everyone thought that his show had either been halted or cancelled. Then it came out that Marvel had already found a show runner for the project, and now we're already hearing that there is some casting on the way for the show as well. Thanks to Joseph Deckelmeier over at "That Hashtag Show" and his Marvel source, some character descriptions have been revealed regarding a person we can only assume is Daniel Rand, and another unknown individual.
The first character described is "Dylan Kindle," a young man in the age range of 25 and 28. He's described as handsome, sophisticated, and closed off. This truly does sound like a description of Daniel Rand seeing as how int he comics he is a handsome...

Now that Iron Fist finally has a showrunner and appears to actually be happening, there's been a lot of talk among fans about the studio casting an Asian American actor as Daniel Rand. Surprisingly, it appears as if Marvel has taken note of that, as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that they've, "met with Asian-American actors in consideration for the lead." However, don't worry too much comic book purists because despite at least thinking over the possibility of a non-white lead, they're now "leaning toward keeping Iron Fist white." You can understand why Marvel would at least consider an Asian actor, but it does in many ways make more sense for Danny to be white. After all, he comes from a priveleged background and ends up in K'un-Lun after a plane crash, so seeing him go from spoiled rich kid to expert martial artist is actually a much more interesting...

Iron Fist, the protagonist of Netflix’s fourth and final Marvel Comics series, is a martial arts warrior imbued with a mystical power known as the Iron First, which allows him to channel his chi to superhuman levels, giving him healing, telepathy and super-punching abilities. His alter ego is Daniel Rand, a native New Yorker raised in K’un-l’un, an alternate-dimension city where he attained those martial arts and supernatural skills. In the comics, Daniel is portrayed as a blond Caucasian, but over the past year and a half, a grassroots movement has been growing online to urge Marvel and Netflix to cast

Dexter, Six Feet Under and Nikki alum Scott Buck will be Iron Fist’s showrunner for Marvel/Netflix…
Following the news that Marvel’s future Netflix plans were pushing ahead in earnest post-Jessica Jones, Scott Buck has signed up as the showrunner of Iron Fist.
Mr Buck is perhaps best known for his work on Dexter. Hopping between the roles of executive producer and co-executive producer, he worked on over 60 episodes of the Showtime series, seventeen of which he wrote.
Buck has also worked - in various writing and producing capacities - on Six Feet Under, Nikki, Rome, Coach, and Will Ferrell-starring animated series The Oblongs. He sounds like a safe pair of hands to us.
If you’re unfamiliar with Iron Fist (real name Daniel Rand) from the comics, here’s Marvel’s brief plot summary for the Netflix series…

The fourth series in the Netflix-Marvel partnership, "Iron Fist," is officially a go, and has landed a showrunner.
Marvel announced on Monday that Scott Buck, who also served as executive producer on Showtime series "Dexter," will now take on that same role on "Iron Fist." Buck, whose other credits include writing for HBO series "Six Feet Under" and "Rome," impressed Marvel execs with his unique vision for the series.
"Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet," said Jeph Loeb, "Iron Fist" executive producer and head of Marvel Television, in a statement. "We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we've found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders."

Marvel has sent out a press release revealing that they've found a showrunner for its Netflix series Iron Fist. Scott Buck will be the man to bring this project to life. Here's the first official synopsis for the show:
Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.
There's good news and bad news here. Buck was the showrunner of the last four seasons of Dexter, arguably running a once-great show directly into the ground and tanking it with what's considered to be one of the worst finales of the "prestige television" era. That's the bad news. The good news is that starting from scratch and able to establish a style, tone, and vision all his own from the very beginning,...
