Not too long ago, Justin Moore and the Nineties country songwriter David Lee Murphy were sitting around Moore’s Florida beach house talking about trucks. After years trying to write hit songs on the road and during the requisite morning sessions in Nashville writing rooms, Moore had returned to the way he’d developed material earlier in his career, a method he much prefers: hanging out with songwriters at the beach for casual, days-long retreats.

Three of country music’s most popular male artists will headline the 2021 Faster Horses Festival. Luke Combs, Jason Aldean, and Thomas Rhett will each close out a night of the three-day Brooklyn, Michigan, country gathering.

Kenny Chesney has released a preview of his upcoming studio album with the optimistic new song “Here and Now.” The as-yet-untitled album, Chesney’s second full-length under Warner Bros. Nashville, is expected to be released in late spring.
Composed by Craig Wiseman, David Lee Murphy, and David Garcia during a creative retreat in Malibu, “Here and Now” extols the importance of living in the present moment and follows Chesney’s turn toward more uplifting and spiritual themes in “Get Along” and “Better Boat.” Built around a syncopated, rising-and-falling guitar riff,...

Keith Urban was named Entertainer of the Year at the 2019 Acm Awards. This marked the first time the singer-guitarist, who performed a new song titled “My Burden” during the telecast, won the Academy of Country Music’s top prize.
Elsewhere, Kacey Musgraves was named Female Artist of the Year, while her Grammy-winning LP Golden Hour won Album of the Year. “Thank you to everyone out there still supporting and buying albums,” she said during her speech. Thomas Rhett, who performed his new single “Look What God Gave Her,” was named Male Artist of the Year.

You’d think Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line would be on easy street at country music awards. After all, their collaboration “Meant to Be” made history as the longest-running number-one hit in the history of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, and it peaked at number-two on the Hot 100 singles chart, which made it the biggest crossover country hit in years. But despite the song’s success, it can’t catch a break on the awards scene. Will it finally win at the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 7?
Last fall “Meant to Be” was nominated for Single of the Year and Musical Event of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards, but it lost to “Broken Halos” by Chris Stapleton and “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” by David Lee Murphy and Kenny Chesney, respectively.

Justin Moore has released the track list for his upcoming album Late Nights and Longnecks, along with the new song “Jesus and Jack Daniels,” a slice of classic country that makes good use of Moore’s native Arkansas warble.

This is getting ridiculous. It has been less than two weeks since Kacey Musgraves performed twice at the Grammys and won Album of the Year for “Golden Hour,” which is only the fifth country album ever to do so. But that still wasn’t enough to qualify her as one of the top five Entertainer of the Year nominees at the Academy of Country Music Awards. For the second year in a row, no woman at all qualified for a nomination. Sadly, this is par for the course for the ACMs, where being a solo male artist is practically a prerequisite for consideration.

Dan Smyers reaped a leading 10 nominations for the 54th annual Acm Awards, with an even half dozen of those as part of the duo Dan + Shay; the other four came as a producer and songwriter. This year brought its share of spirited (to put it mildly) discussion in country music, with multiple genre-crossing collaborations reaching the charts. Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line ruled for 50 weeks straight with “Meant to Be,” while Maren Morris lent her soulful pipes to Zedd and Grey’s ebullient dance track “The Middle,” now nominated for a Record of the Year Grammy. The 52nd Annual Country Music Association Awards were handed out on Wednesday, November 14, during a live ceremony broadcast on ABC and hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley for the 11th year in a row. So who won? Scroll down for our complete list of winners updating throughout the night.
Like the Grammys, the CMAs are a peer group award decided by industry insiders. The nominees and winners were chosen by the 7,400 musicians, artists, songwriters, executives and other country music professionals who make up the association. When picking the nominees they gave the most love to Chris Stapleton, who in his first three years of industry prominence (2015-2017) already claimed seven Cma Awards and appeared likely to add to that haul: he received a leading five nominations in 2018, including Entertainer of the Year.

Kenny Chesney, Thomas Rhett and Jason Aldean will headline the three-day 2019 Tortuga Music Festival. The annual beachside event, which launched in 2013, is set for April 12 through 13th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Officially titled Rock the Ocean’s Tortuga Music Festival, the concert doubles as a conservation effort for the world’s oceans and marine life and hosts a special educational and interactive “conservation village.”
The draw, though, is the traditionally diverse lineup, one that strays far from any country boundaries. This year, that includes Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...

Although normally focused on Americana-leaning country music, Chris Shiflett’s Walking the Floor podcast goes full-on mainstream with this week’s episode. Justin Moore is the special guest, talking with his host about songwriting on Music Row, adolescence in rural Arkansas and the challenges of touring as a family man.
Here are seven things we learned from Shiflett’s chat with the singer, who will release his new single “The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home” on October 12th.
Moore’s traditionally-minded country music comes from a traditional place: small-town Arkansas.

Jake Owen makes like the king of downtown Nashville in the video for his latest single, “Down to the Honkytonk,” taking a boozy, good-timing tour of the city’s famous Lower Broadway bar scene.
Filled with pedal taverns, bachelorettes and plenty of colorful characters, the neon-lit clip pokes a little fun at the insanity of the strip, as Owen visits Broadway staples like Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge and Honk Tonk Central. Written by Rodney Clawson, Luke Laird and Shane McAnally, the song is all about how Owen might not go down in history,...

Labor Day weekend’s inaugural Seven Peaks Festival was all about the details. “Attention to details — that’s everything,” Dierks Bentley, the festival’s headliner and de facto presenting artist said Saturday afternoon while lounging in “Dudeville,” the backstage area for he and his band. “The devil’s in the details — isn’t that what they say? As a fan, you go to something like this and you notice things.”
Bentley was on “detail detail” all weekend, as anyone who peeked at his Instagram could tell — he joined Clint Black and Brothers Osborne onstage,...

Walker Hayes embraces Nineties nostalgia with his new single “Nineties Country,” which furthers the trope of lyrics built around the song titles of past hits. But Hayes doesn’t take the lazy route here — while he drops allusions to major hits like George Strait’s “Check Yes or No” and Kenny Chesney’s “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy,” the Alabama songwriter digs deep to include nods to Shenandoah (“The Church on Cumberland Road”) and even Ken Mellons (“Jukebox Junkie”).
