Kristoffer Cusick bounced from Hardbody to First Date on Broadway
First Date is a new Broadway musical about a blind date between Aaron (Zachary Levi from Chuck fame) and Casey (Krysta Rodriguez from Smash) and feeds into the fears, anxieties and other emotional traps that go along with dating.
The other actors play multiple characters throughout the musical, but Casey’s gay Bff, Reggie (played by Kristoffer Cusick) stands out not just for the burst of energy he brings to every moment he has in the show, but also by the fact that he’s someone we can probably all relate to.
I spoke with Cusick recently about landing the First Date role just as another Broadway gig was ending. He also shared his thought about being out professionally and being comfortable with who he is.

To helm its production of "Cabaret," Reprise Theatre Company turned to director Marcia Milgrom Dodge (Broadway's 2009 "Ragtime"). She had done a lively, wry job in 2010 with Reprise's "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." But would she be able to overcome the legendary stamps put on the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical?Dodge, in turn, broke other molds. Her Sally Bowles is waiflike soprano Lisa O'Hare (Mary Poppins in the West End's "Mary Poppins," Eliza Doolittle in the national tour of "My Fair Lady"). For her Emcee, Dodge cast rocker Bryce Ryness (2009's "Hair" on Broadway, "Legally Blonde" on Broadway, Floyd in the Los Angeles premiere of "Floyd Collins"). In another act of brinkmanship, Dodge and her cast had two weeks to collaborate on the show before it opened. She, O'Hare, and Ryness spoke with Back Stage during a lunch break on their fourth day of rehearsals....

From Drama Club Pres. Will Pulos...
Somebody get Ken Burns on the phone. This week’s Logo Drama Club is telling a story through photos. There may be slightly more sight gags in this week’s episode than Burns' The Civil War, but trust me it is no less epic. We sat down with Stanley Bahorek and an incredibly informative Bryce Ryness from See Rock City & Other Destinations, a new musical being put on by The Transport Group. The show centers around personal stories that take place at tourist destinations across the country.
Earlier this year, The Transport Group put on that production of The Boys In The Band that felt like you were in an actual apartment in Midtown at the worst party ever. For this show, the staging is just as innovative with audience interaction and the audience sitting on lawn chairs! It’s like Times Square Summer 2009! Also,...
