The reality star has taken up the fight for advocacy for those diagnosed and their families. Designer Bobby Berk wanted his first book to extend beyond pages of home design eye candy, but instead offer practical style inspiration that could be put into practice.
As Queer Eye‘s resident home decor guru, Berk is always thinking of how design can be helpful and make his clients’ lives easier. So when it came to creating a book, he insisted that his book be more than just beautiful but also accessible to everyone.
“So, it comes out September 12th and the inspiration behind it was teaching people. I have always wanted to democratize design,” he told Showbiz Cheat Sheet about his new book, “Right at Home: How Good Design Is Good for the Mind.”
“So many times, for years people have been like, ‘Oh, please put out a design book, please put out a design book.’ And to be really frank, design books are expensive to make because...

In 2003, five gay men with massive star power set breakout network Bravo ablaze. Queer Eye for the Straight Guy was a groundbreaking series not only for Bravo but it also changed the face and feel of reality television.
The magic behind the series was the playful and sometimes sarcastic exchanges between the five stars, Aka the “Fab Five” and how they related to their designated episodic “straight guy.” Interior design guru Thom Filicia said the spiciness in their banter is one big reason why the series worked so well.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” season 8 continued on June 30 with the ninth episode streaming on Paramount+. Airing concurrently with the main show is its Werk Room-focused sister series “Untucked,” now in its 5th season for the “All Stars” franchise. This season, the eliminated queens have the opportunity to compete in the “Fame Games,” an online and social media component to the competition where fans will vote for a queen to win the $50,000 cash prize up for grabs.
In episode 9 of “Untucked,” the four remaining queens reflected on the latest challenge and discussed the upcoming elimination. That decision could be in the hands of the group vote among the bottom three queens or solely in the hands of the week’s top performer, Jimbo, if she won the lip sync against the secret assassin Silky Nutmeg Ganache. Not long after Bravo canceled Queer Eye for the Straight Guy in 2007, the show’s creators thought their showbiz careers were over. Despite masterminding one of the 21st century’s seminal reality TV hits, David Collins, Rob Eric and Michael Williams — the team behind Scout Productions, founded in 1994 as a scrappy indie film outfit based out of Boston — were struggling to find another hit now that they’d been rebranded as unscripted lifestyle guys. “In 2004, we won an Oscar for The Fog of War and an Emmy for Queer Eye,” Collins says. “Two years after that, we could not get arrested. There was a moment where I was like, ‘All right, am I going to become a barista?’ “

Bravo‘s Original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy star Jai Rodriguez recalled being coached to audition for the 2003 series and that they were paid even less than a first season original Real Housewife. But were they?
Jai Rodriguez was encouraged to lie about his age and background for the ‘Queer Eye’ audition
“I got an audition for Queer Eye. I sat across from a woman like this. And she asked me to take her on a romantic date as a divorced dad living on Long Island. What would be our New York City date? And I knew the city like the back of my hand,” he recounted on the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast.

Carson Kressley had a special connection to one of the stars who took part in Season 2 of “RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race” – they were co-stars on the original installment of “Queer Eye (for the Straight Guy”).
Thom Filicia turned up on the show earlier in the season, taking on the drag persona Jackie Would. As Kressley settled in as a judge for the VH1 show, it took a minute for him to recognize that his co-star from “Queer Eye,” also his co-host on “Get a Room With Carson & Thom,” and a longtime close friend was the queen onstage. Of course, he’d left his glasses backstage.
“We filmed it on a new stage. It just felt very, very different from the regular ‘Drag Race,” Kressley told TheWrap when we spoke with him Friday ahead of the show’s Season 2 finale on VH1. “I was out of my element and out of sorts a little bit.

"RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race" invites celebrities to compete in drag without revealing their identities - which, of course, makes for a lot of fan speculation as to who's who. Now, the wait is over, as the contestants of season two all shared their identities on the sixth episode, which aired on Sept. 16.
"RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race" is a spinoff of "RuPaul's Drag Race," which has currently run for 14 seasons, not including six "All Star" seasons. In the first season, each episode involved a competition between three different contestants competing in various "Drag Race" challenges. Season one's winners were Jordan Connor, Vanessa Williams, Matt Iseman, Alex Newell, Dustin Milligan, and Hayley Kiyoko. Meanwhile, Jermaine Fowler, Nico Tortorella, Loni Love, Tami Roman, Madison Beer, and Phoebe Robinson were runners-up.

The two qualms I have had with season two of Ru Paul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race have been the lack of cohesive themes that run through the episodes and the connection to the rest of the drag race ru-niverse! It seemed like last week the creative team working on this show focused on the former factor, as every performance was heavily influenced by the idea of money – leading to the first-ever joint winners being Chic-Li-Fay and Chakra Seven. In all honesty, I personally preferred the latter’s intensely fierce performance of “ M.I.L.F. ” by Fergie and so, if it was up to me, she would have been the sole winner of the episode! My biggest issue with this joint winner announcement however, would have to be the fact that when Chic was originally announced as the winner of the episode she did not protest as she promised earlier in the episode.

In the last episode of Ru Paul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race, we saw Poppy Love continue her domination of the competition as she claimed her second win in two episodes! I personally, thoroughly enjoyed her performance of “Show Me How to Burlesque” from the iconic movie Burlesque where they showcase their incredible dance-based skills! On the other end of the completion was surprising Thirsty Von Trap and Electra Owl with the latter revealing herself to be the singer-songwriter, Taylor Dayne! In the first episode of this season, I was a bit disappointed in the fact that there was little to no theme that tied together each of the separate performances. There was some improvement last week when the idea of “dance” was used with the queens showing their own dance skills (specifically the aforementioned Poppy Love and Chic-Fi-Lay) but I did think that this theme was extremely...

There are a few similarities between season one and season two which helped me regain my excitement for the show but there are many, many differences. In fact, I think that season one and season two could have functioned as two completely separate spin-offs – the former being a celebrity drag race and the latter being a secret celebrity drag race, so that there can be even more phases into the Ru-universe (the Ru Paul universe.) The new format of Ru Paul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race,...

The Daytime Emmys held their first ever virtual ceremony on CBS on June 26. “The Young and the Restless” won eight awards including Best Drama Series, but we didn’t find out all the winners. Categories honoring digital dramas will be announced at another virtual ceremony on Sunday night, July 19, while children’s, animated, and lifestyle programs will get their due the following Sunday, July 26. And now the national television academy has announced who will be hosting those events.
“Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” alum Jai Rodriguez will host the digital drama ceremony on July 19. Rodriguez won a Primetime Emmy for Best Reality Program back in 2004 as one of the original hosts of the groundbreaking “Queer Eye,” alongside Carson Kressley, Ted Allen, Thom Filicia and Kyan Douglas. In recent years a revamped version of the show has aired on Netflix with a brand new fab five, and it too has won Emmys.

If you're a true Queer Eye fan, then you must know that the Fab Five we know and love from the hit Netflix series are not the first to transform lives (and wardrobes). Fifteen years before Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, and Jonathan Van Ness stepped on the scene, the original Fab Five debuted on Bravo. The series - which was originally called Queer Eye for the Straight Guy before it was shorted to Queer Eye in its third season to expand its scope - was the first of its kind and a surprise success, and we couldn't be more grateful for it, as it later led to the Netflix reboot we know so well.
Rather than Antoni, Tan, Karamo, Bobby, and Jonathan, the original Queer Eye starred Ted Allen, Carson Kressley, Jai Rodriguez, Thom Filicia, and Kyan Douglas, known as the Food and Wine Connoisseur, the Fashion Savant,...

Happy Monday, "Big Brother" fans. We hope you guys had a fantastic weekend. Today, some crazy, new intel just came in from Newsweek.com . Apparently, another 10 celebrities that could possibly be competing in the second season of CBS' Celebrity Big Brother USA has been leaked! We previously reported that Lindsay Lohan's mother Dina Lohan was reportedly approached by the Big Brother producers with a $100,000 dollar offer to participate in the new season. Now, we've got 10 more people, and they might be a little more close to celebrity status than Dina. I really consider Dina to just be the mother of a celebrity and nothing more. So, CBS was definitely stretching with that one. Anyways, let's go ahead and jump into this possible celebrity list. Please keep in mind that none of these people we're about to mention have been confirmed by CBS or the Big Brother producers. So,...

NBCUniversal kicked off the broadcast week of upfronts Monday with its presentation at Radio City Music Hall. Here are the five key takeaways:
1. Facebook is worth kicking.
It didn’t take NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke long to get his first veiled dig at Facebook in during his address at the top of the show.
“Digital companies are being accused of invasion of people’s privacy, accused of false measurement,” Burke said. He didn’t call out the social-media giant by name, but he might as well have. At the other end of the Facebook-diss spectrum was a video featuring ad-sales chief Linda Yaccarino edited into footage from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s recent Senate hearing. The video began with Yaccarino sitting down behind a table in a faux Senate chamber, then standing back up, pulling a booster seat off her chair and tossing it aside: “Someone give that back to Zuckerberg,...

In a real litmus test for our divided country, a diverse group of people from America’s biggest cities have agreed to pick up and move to the heartland of Waverly, Kansas, where they’ll live and work alongside some very traditional locals. During this clash of American cultures, will preconceived notions be turned upside down? Are we too divided or are we all more like-minded than we think? The town’s response to these fish-out-of-water city slickers is often hilarious and quite surprising.
“Unanchored” (Working Title)
Produced by Evolution Media with Douglas Ross, Alex Baskin & Bill Langworthy
Catch a rare glimpse into the secret second life of young, elite professionals in “Unanchored,” a brand-new docuseries that follows a group of best friends as they embark on their next travel adventure – an exclusive floating festival in the Bahamas where they’ll join 30 yachts. The group leaves behind their high-level careers to travel the breathtaking Bahamas and embrace a subculture of elaborate costumes, eccentric rules, and hallowed traditions. “Unanchored” is a story about finding your tribe–and all the laughter, heartbreak, and adventure that comes with it.
“Backyard Envy” (Working Title)
Produced by World of Wonder and Renowned Films with Fenton Baily, Randy Barbato, Tom Campbell, Todd Radnitz and Brian Robel serving as executive producers for World of Wonder and Max Welch, Tim Withers and Duane Jones serving as executive producers for Renowned Films.
Manscapers is New York City’s most exclusive exterior design and landscaping firm, specializing in full outdoor renovation design for the area’s most demanding clients. From rooftops in Manhattan to backyards in the burbs, this series follows James DeSantis, Garrett Magee, and Melissa Brasier as they transform barren outdoor spaces into lush, jaw-dropping oases. These “Two Wills and a Grace” are put to the test as they juggle tight deadlines, multiple clients and each other.
“Buying it Blind”
Produced by Kinetic Content with Chris Coelen, Katie Griffin, Eric Detwiler, Robert Zimmerman and Jennifer Faison Herron serving as executive producers.
This series will follow different couples that can’t decide, or can’t agree, on what kind of home to buy. At a breaking point, they decide to take a radical step and blindly hand the decision – and their entire budget – over to a team of three industry experts who will be charged with making the choice for these couples. The expert team will choose the property for the buyer, who will not get to view the property prior to purchase, and then be challenged to take the house through a stunning renovation. Will the experts create the buyer’s dream home? Or will the client end up with buyer’s remorse?
“Flipping Exes”
Produced by Rock Shrimp Productions with Bobby Flay, Kim Martin, Danielle Medina and René Rainey serving as executive producers.
After their break up, real life ex-girlfriend/ex-boyfriend Nina Klemm and Michael LeSure launched a house flipping business in Carmel, Indiana (nicknamed “the Beverly Hills of the Midwest”) called “Flipping Exes.” The show will follow their flipping business, Nina’s work as a local realtor of high-end properties, and of course, the unique relationship between Michael, Nina and their staff in a show that seamlessly mixes real estate and comedy.
“Sweet Home”
Produced by Evolution Media with Douglas Ross, Alex Baskin, Brian McCarthy and Jen Morton serving as executive producers.
“Sweet Home” follows Jennifer Welch and her design business as she and her team, Alex, Sarah and Sabah, take on residential and commercial clients all over Oklahoma City. In each hour-long episode, viewers will see a project come together as Jennifer delivers sophisticated designs with the vision, passion, and sharp wit that she is known for, all while living/dealing with her ex-husband Josh as they raise their growing boys. As always, hijinks are in style as gal-pal Angie “Pumps” Sullivan is back for more hilarious fun.

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy‘s Fab Five just became a Fab Nine.
Ahead of Netflix’s revival of the reality series, the streaming service released a nostalgia-driven video in which Queer Eye‘s new Fab Five gets some hosting advice from the original quintet. (Well, quartet. Food and wine expert Ted Allen is absent, presumably filming his zillionth episode of Chopped.)
In the video above, newbies Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness and Tan France discuss Queer Eye‘s cultural impact, among other things, with series vets Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia, Carson Kressley and Jai Rodriguez.

It’s a swampy day in the sleepy town of Winder, Georgia, as Queer Eye’s new Fab Five tears through the modest home of Cory, a police officer with an affinity for Nascar, pickle juice and American flag-printed shorts. His basement is cluttered with beer guzzler helmets and deer antlers, his bedroom closet with his late father’s suits, with which he can’t bear to part.
As the guys giddily rummage through Cory’s belongings, the scene could be straight out of the makeover show’s original run 15 years ago. Until Karamo Brown, the culture expert, discovers Cory...
