Starz and Lionsgate have suspended producer Ian Woolf from the drama series “Bmf” following an alleged altercation with two striking Writers Guild of America writers in Atlanta on Thursday.
According to a series of tweets posted by WGA member Brian Egeston and strike captain Gabriel Alejandro Garza, the pair were on a public sidewalk, not impeding traffic, when Woolf pointed an SUV he was driving toward Egeston “as though it were a weapon and slammed the breaks within six feet of writers.”
Garza said that Woolf looked directly at him as he “hit the accelerator one more time, followed by the brakes, and skid even closer to us.” According to the pair, Woolf said that he was trying to scare them. Garza noted that they have a recording of Woolf’s explanation.
“I would implore you, in hindsight, to consider the ramifications of killing an African-American man in the streets...

A day of picketing the set of the Starz/Lionsgate series Bmf in Atlanta turned dangerous for WGA writers Brian Egeston and Gabriel Alejandro Garza. In a series of tweets Thursday afternoon, accompanied by photos, Egeston claimed that Bmf line producer Ian Woolf, driving an SUV, pointed the vehicle at him “as though it were a weapon and slammed the brakes within six feet of writers.”
Egeston’s account was corroborated by Garza, a strike captain, who said that he was standing next to Egeston when the alleged incident happened and described it in a lengthy statement on Twitter Thursday evening. Garza claimed that he and Egeston were on a public sidewalk, not impeding traffic, when Woolf allegedly hit the accelerator and then by the brake as “he was looking directly at us the entire time and kept the vehicle pointed at us.”

A producer on the Starz/Lionsgate drama Bmf has been suspended from the 50 Cent-produced series after clashing with striking writers outside the show’s Atlanta set.
“We take acts of intimidation and threats of violence seriously and investigate them thoroughly. As we continue to investigate, we have sent home the individual involved,” a Lionsgate rep said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
The alleged incident occurred Thursday afternoon in Georgia, where Bmf (as in Black Mafia Family) was in production on the third season of the series based on the lives of two brothers who founded an influential crime organization in 1980s Detroit. Writer Brian Egeston, who documented the alleged incident on Twitter, claims Bmf’s Ian Woolf sped toward him and other writers in his SUV and stopped short in what he dubbed as an “intimidation” tactic.

Timeless fans will get closure. NBC has ordered a two-part series finale of the Sony Pictures TV-produced time-travel series to air during the holidays.
“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of Timeless, this is the next best thing,” said Timeless creators/executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke said. “We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”
Spoiler Alert. In the Season 2 ender, soldier Wyatt (Matt Lanter) and historian Lucy (Abigail Spencer) return from their latest mission without their trusted engineer Rufus (Malcolm Barrett), who was killed. But in a last-second twist,...

“Timeless” isn’t fading into history just yet. NBC has struck a deal with Sony Pictures TV to wrap up the series — which ended its second season with a major cliffhanger — via a two-part finale that will air during the holiday season.
The “Timeless” wrap-up comes after NBC canceled the show this May, and Sony Pictures TV tried but couldn’t maneuver a third season renewal at another outlet.
In a press release, executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke promised “one final emotional story for the Time Team.”
“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of ‘Timeless,’ this is the next best thing,” the duo said in a joint statement. “We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. Time has finally run out for “Timeless” — for the last time. The series which has been in limbo while awaiting a renewal decision for months has been canceled for the second time by NBC, an individual with knowledge of the decision tells TheWrap.
However, there still may be a silver lining for Clockblockers, as the broadcast network and the Eric Kripke drama’s studio, Sony Television, are in talks to wrap things up with a two-hour series finale.
Of course, “Timeless” fans have already suffered through this situation once before, as the show was canceled last spring after just one season, though that was quickly reversed by NBC after a huge wave of support from viewers via social media.

It seems Jiya has really taken to time travel.

In the photo below from the second half of Sunday’s Season 2 ender, “Lucy, Wyatt, Rufus and Flynn search for Jiya in a Chinatown photo studio,” co-showrunner Tom Smuts, who wrote the hour, previews. So how did Jiya get separated from the team? Well, you’ll just have to watch Part 1 of the finale to find out.

The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

The miniseries saga of Don, Betty, Roger, Joan, Peggy and Bert deserved a terrific finish, and at the end of seven plus one seasons, creator Matthew Weiner delivers in fine style. The agency undergoes a major transformation, but each of our favorites moves on to a thoughtful, better-than-acceptable resolution -- all except for Don. He is given one of the more interesting character finales in TV history, even better than Robert Morse's topper at the end of Season Seven Part 1. It truly was the end of an era when "Mad Men" signed off for good on May 17, and while the series finale divided some fans (did Don really achieve enlightenment? Was the Coke jingle meant to be sincere or cynical?), one thing everyone can agree on is that they wished some more fan favorite characters and storylines made the final cut. Now, creator Matthew Weiner has revealed that he, too, had a wishlist of people and things he wanted to feature in the final episodes -- and some of the items that were omitted from the series are heartbreaking.
At an event for the Writers Guild Foundation in Los Angeles Thursday night, Weiner appeared alongside "Mad Men" writers Janet Leahy, Erin Levy, Tom Smuts, Lisa Albert, Robert Towne, Jonathan Igla, Carly Wray, and Josh Weltman, and discussed said list, which Entertainment Weekly writer Anthony Breznican photographed and shared on Twitter...

The article below contains spoilers for "The Flood," the April 28th, 2013 episode of "Mad Men." "Mad Men" chooses its intersections with history carefully. It's a show that is set in the 1960s without aims to be explicitly about them, and so major events and cultural shifts tend to occur for the characters as they do for most people, on the periphery, noticed and talked about but not the central focus of lives more concerned with closer dramas. When a real incident does influence the series, it's just as often not one of the era's landmarks but a less familiar occurrence -- the American Airlines Flight 1 crash, the Richard Speck murders, a solar eclipse. "The Flood," directed by the show's cinematographer Christopher Manley and written by Tom Smuts and Matthew Weiner, is an anomaly in that it was an episode not only centered around a defining historical moment -- the April 4, 1968 assassination of Martin Luther King,...

This week’s Mad Men, entitled “The Flood,” brings us to that pivotal point in history when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated, viewing how the tragic event brought out the best and the worst in people. Some used the event to their gain or resented it for putting a stop to the normal routine. For others, it made them appreciate the important things in life, like family and friends. Written by showrunner Matthew Weiner and Tom Smuts and directed by Chris Manley, this week’s installment was hardly perfect – it had a few unusually cheesy moments – but it was thought-provoking and featured a powerhouse performance from Jon Hamm. The title of the episode comes from Ginsberg’s father saying, ”In the flood, the animals went two-by-two,” as he sets his son up on a surprise dinner date with a comely teacher, eventually passing off Mlk Jr.’s assassination as a good time to play matchmaker...

NEW YORK -- United Hollywood, the community site that became an online water cooler of sorts for writers during the strike, will live on in a new incarnation after the strike ends.
After a redesign, United Hollywood 2.0 will be launched as a community site for Hollywood writers looking to work in and learn about digital media, functioning as a kind of lab for writers as they break into the medium.
The site will gather information and articles aimed at traditional talent interested in writing for digital media, offer experiences from writers who have done it and provide a guide to various digital platforms and business models.
"There's a lot that needs to be figured out when it comes to working outside the traditional system, and intermediaries like agents and managers have an incentive to make that stuff a kind of black magic," said Tom Smuts, a strike captain and television writer who is financing and assuming editorial control of the site. "Our goal is to create a community that clears away the smoke."
In a sense, organizers said, the site will seek to further the digital mission that prompted the strike in the first place.
