When Killer Mike released his sixth studio album Michael last June, it marked his first solo studio album in more than a decade. Earlier this year, the record was awarded Best Rap Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards. The accolade would have been the perfect closing page for this chapter of the rapper’s career, but he isn’t ready to move on just yet. On Friday, Killer Mike will release Songs for Sinners & Saints.

Blxst, a rapper/producer who has worked with Kendrick Lamar and Killer Mike, has posted a surveillance video to his Instagram account showing a break-in at his home early Friday morning while his family was inside.
Blxst was out of town working on final preparations for his first album, which came out Friday.
“Imagine being across the country away from my family during one of the heights of my career & waking up to my son face timing at 4am saying ‘I think bad guys are in the house’,” Blxst said on his post. “Words can’t express the frustration & the emptiness in my heart and soul not being able to be there to protect my boys.”
A nanny confronted the thieves and chased them out of the house.

“Love.,” the four-time platinum single from Kendrick Lamar’s Pulitzer Prize-winning opus Damn., was made an inescapable earworm and a breath of fresh air with a timeless hook from Zacari. At the time, the young singer was not yet signed to Kendrick’s label, Top Dawg Entertainment, but was managed by Tde co-president Moosa Tiffith. Back then, his discography had only consisted of a few tracks on SoundCloud. “I [was] still figuring out how even to record and what type of music I want to make when that happened,” he tells Rolling Stone.

While hosting the 2024 ESPYs on Thursday, Serena Williams marked the occasion by sharing some sage advice.
“If I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that none of us, not a single one of us, not even me, should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar,” she said as the song “Not Like Us” began to play and Williams crip-walked on stage. As the crowd clapped in approval, she added: “He will make your hometown not like you, the next time Drake sits courtside at a Raptors game, they’re gonna Forest Gump him,...

Killer Mike is gearing up to release his new album, Michael, this Friday, and he’s shared a collaboration with fellow Atlanta rappers André 3000 and Future called “Scientists & Engineers” as a final preview. Stream it below.
Also featuring a contribution from R&b singer Eryn Allen Kane, the “Scientists & Engineers” instrumental contains futuristic synths that contrast with the soulful backing vocals about living forever as all three rappers spit introspective verses. Whereas André hopes he’ll get a “second wind” at 80 and Future talks about turning “a trap house to a ranch,” Mike closes out the track by promising to keep it “a hundred percentage authentic.” He adds, “I got no gimmicks, so I ain’t protectin’ no image.”
Along with “Scientists & Engineers,” Mike shared the full list of features for the album, which includes Ty Dolla $ign, Curren$y, 2 Chainz, 6Lack, Kaash Paige, CeeLo Green, Jagged Edge, Mozzy,...

The Grammy rap field this year has some formidable nominees. Hits by Kendrick Lamar, Latto, Jack Harlow, Future, and DJ Khaled are all gunning for wins, making this one of the most competitive song lineups the field has had in the past few years. Let’s consider who’s ahead to win in two rap categories. And take a look at my analysis of the other two races here.
SEEWhich of these 5 artists will win the most Grammys? Best Melodic Rap Performance
Most people are expecting a full Kendrick Lamar sweep in the rap field, which is very possible. However, “Die Hard” might be the weakest of his nominations, especially since the song wasn’t a big single. Granted, Lamar has won here before with an album track (“These Walls”), but the hype for “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers” doesn’t feel as big as it was for “To Pimp a Butterfly.

Renaissance and Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers have earned Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar some big nominations in the NAACP Image Awards’ music categories this year. On Thursday, the organization announced the nominees for this year’s awards show, and Bey and K-Dot lead with five nods each.
Following closely behind are Chris Brown and Tems with four nods, and Drake, who has three.
Mr. Morale and Renaissance are up against Chris Brown’s Breezy, Pj Morton’s Watch the Sun, and Ari Lennox’s age/sex/location for the Outstanding Album category.

As a music critic, it’s important to listen to as much music as possible. Play your favorites, but also discover new artists. Randomly select an album and give it a try. Check out recommendations from family, friends and folks on social media. Give that album you didn’t love another try.
Still, we like what we like, and music is subjective. With that said, here’s my list of the top albums of 2022!
1. Beyoncé, Renaissance
Listening to Beyoncé’s Renaissance is like watching and rewatching that epic TV series or film — the discovery is endless, and there is so much to unpack. The lyrics are catchy and confident, the beats are bouncy and brilliant and her vocal range is impeccable, going from fluttery coos on “Virgo’s Groove” to soft and sensual on “Plastic Off the Sofa” to assertive shit-talking throughout the 16-track dance escapade.

Often as interesting as who is nominated at the Grammys is who isn’t nominated at the Grammys. Sometimes those snubs are more than just surprising. This year’s Best New Artist race is one of the most fun to follow in years at the Grammys. And it isn’t only because a lot of exciting artists are looking to be nominated, but more due to the lack of an obvious, undeniable front-runner like Billie Eilish or Olivia Rodrigo in years past. While a couple of people do look like very safe bets, the category could go a myriad of ways and ultimately shock us all for the first time in forever.
A few front-runners are probably safe for a nomination. Latto could perhaps be the biggest of them, with her hit “Big Energy” being one of the defining songs of 2022 and being a hip-hop/pop crossover. Another is Zach Bryan, whose debut album, “American Heartbreak,” is the biggest country album eligible for this year’s Grammys and has netted multiple weeks in the top 10 of...

Future and the Grammys have a weird relationship. Despite being one of hip-hop’s most prevalent names during the 2010s, and arguably one of the most influential artists in the genre as well, the rapper’s music has constantly been ignored by music’s biggest honor. As a lead artist, he has received only one nomination: Best Music Video for “Life Is Good” featuring Drake. Besides that, his nominations stem from his feature on Kendrick Lamar’s “King’s Dead,” which actually won them the Grammy for Best Rap Performance, and an additional nomination as a featured artist on Drake’s “Views” for Album of the Year. Such a tendency to snub one of the genre’s top artists is definitely odd, but could perhaps have been the product of snobbishness from nomination review committees. However, with those committees now gone, what can we expect for Future? Grammys vindication at last?...

From Lagos, Nigeria, singer Fireboy Dml delivered reimagined takes of three of his Afro-life tunes to NPR for their latest Tiny Desk (Home) concert. With pristine vocals complemented by the stirring keys, smooth trumpet, and subtle cymbals of his backing band the Vibe Kings, Fireboy upped the emotional ante of his already poignant tracks, “Like I Do,” “Tattoo,” and “Peru.” Ed Sheeran, 21 Savage, and Blxst have hopped on remixes of “Peru,” the rising act’s international hit.

The Soul Train Music Awards honor the best in R&b and hip-hop, being one of the few peer-voted awards left in music besides the Grammys, CMAs, and ACMs. The awards have a significant correlation with the Grammys when it comes to R&b categories, with most of the Album of the Year winners at the Soul Trains going on to win with the recording academy. In such a competitive year for R&b due to the likes of H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Silk Sonic, and Giveon, let’s take a look at who is likely to win at the ceremony airing on BET and VH1 on Sunday, November 28.
Album of the Year
Album of the Year is the most prestigious award, and for good reason. Past winners include R&b classics of the past decade like Beyoncé’s “Lemonade,” Frank Ocean’s “Channel Orange,” and Bruno Mars’s “24k Magic.

It’s more than just a trademark at the bottom of a Justin Bieber album.

On King’s Disease II, Nas enlists a respectable collection of guests from across generations, including Gap Band legend Charlie Wilson, early-2000s rap sensation Eminem, laid-back golden-agers Epmd, and hip-hop newcomer Blxst. Yg and Mozzy have released the title track from their upcoming collaborative album, Perfect Timing.
“Perfect Timing” finds Yg and Mozzy trading verses about their beginnings and big dreams over a slinky groove centered around a delicate guitar loop, keys, and some windswept chimes. Los Angeles-based singer/rapper Blxst ties the track together with the hook, “The timing was perfect/But as humble as I am, I kinda deserve it/We done got it out the mud and climbed to the surface/If I’ma take the risks, then it’s gotta be worth it.
