Some participants of Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV are calling out producers of the docuseries for not being more transparent about the project being made for Investigation Discovery.
“I’m not too familiar with ID, but for the interview I sat down for, it was not an appropriate network for the show,” former The Amanda Show star Raquel Lee Bolleau said in an interview with IndieWire. “I had no clue it was on [ID] until one or two weeks before it aired.”
Fellow Nickelodeon star and former Zoey 101 cast member Alexa Nikolas echoed Lee Bolleau’s sentiment, saying, “I didn’t even know what ID was, honestly. When I looked it up, my first thought was our stories and the conversation that deserves to be had around them are way bigger than ID and deserve a more credible platform. A more serious one.”

Decades after Nickelodeon allegedly left dozens of child stars traumatized, Quiet on Set returns to haunt them with half-forgotten memories and long-buried scars. On the other hand, the docuseries brings to light a darker side of the entertainment industry that only scratches the surface of the public’s understanding of what goes on behind the curtains.
But despite the show’s well-placed intention, the documentation of children’s trauma does not sit well with some of the subjects of the series.

Like most things in Hollywood, “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” began with a promise.
After years of whispered complaints about the sometimes-shady world of children’s entertainment, an investigative team set out to expose Dan Schneider’s Nickelodeon and the years of alleged abuse endured by the kids who worked there from 1994 to 2018. Others had tried to tell this story, but this time serious journalists planned to expose the industry’s seamy underbelly — documenting past wrongs, giving voice to victims, and charting tangible change.
Ex-kid actors and “Quiet on Set” subjects Raquel Lee Bolleau and Alexa Nikolas told IndieWire they were presented with a plan for an honest look at the issues and suffering borne out by their childhoods. Lee Bolleau (“The Amanda Show”) talked to the “Quiet on Set” producers about her passion for healing and protecting young performers still in the industry; Nikolas (“Zoey...

It’s rare when a documentary series makes as big a splash as that created by “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” The five-part Investigation Discovery docuseries has been seen by an estimated audience of more than 20 million over ID and Max and generated a groundswell of chatter over its revelations about toxic children’s TV production environments – primarily at Nickelodeon in the early 2000s. The filmmakers responsible for the series that premiered on March 17 – executive producer-director Mary Robertson and co-exec producer-director Emma Schwartz – are thrilled at a reaction that they describe variously as “inspiring” and “overwhelming.”
Adds Schwartz: “I think one of the most exciting parts of that is really to see how many people are not just impacted by watching it, but want to take action or improve the environment in which these problems occur. Taking the work to a next level is something you would hope for.

This post contains details from the first four episodes of ID’s documentary series Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
A little over a year and a half ago, producers Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz began to have some questions about kids television. More specifically, about the heyday of Nickelodeon.
“Emma and I had noticed…compilations of clips that were made on sets that Dan Schneider presided over, and these compilations were making their way around social media. They included clips of material that is arguably sexual in nature,” Robertson told Deadline. “If this arguably sexual content was being created on sets featuring child actors, for children to absorb, what else was possibly happening? What could this portend or signal about what was really happening behind the scenes?”
Eventually, those questions would evolve into something much more as the two women took a deep dive into what...

Kenan Thompson is speaking out following the shocking allegations on Nickelodeon sets revealed in the Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV docuseries.
The actor and comedian, who previously rose to fame following his roles on Nickelodeon shows Kenan & Kel and All That in the late ’90s and early 2000s, recently opened up about his experience on the sets as well as gave his support for those who shared their personal stories in the doc.
“It’s a tough subject because, it’s tough for me because I can’t really speak on things that I’ve never witnessed,” Thompson said on Wednesday’s episode of the daytime talk show Tamron Hall. “You know what I’m saying? Because all these things happened after I left, basically, and Dan [Schneider] wasn’t really on Kenan & Kel like that. I mean, he got a ‘created by’ credit, but it was a different showrunner.

Former kids TV producer Dan Schneider says he has no problem censoring Nickelodeon cult classics he created in the 1990s and 2000s that now may offend viewers.
“All these jokes that you’re speaking of that [Quiet on Set] covered over the past two nights, every one of those jokes was written for a kid audience, because kids thought they were funny, and only funny,” Schneider said of lines he wrote for Nickelodeon shows like The Amanda Show, Victorious and Zoey 101, and which are now being criticized by offended fans on YouTube and social media platforms for having allegedly sexualized young actors.
His comments came as part of a March 19 apology video he released following the two-night docuseries, Investigation Discovery’s Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, which probed toxic environment claims on sets run by Schneider. McKenna Grace reprises her lead role as Phoebe in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which led the weekend box office with $45 million. At 17 she is not yet a household name, but she laid some groundwork early: At age six she had a supporting role on the Disney Channel sitcom “Crash & Bernstein.” Later she received an Emmy nomination for her work in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and portrayed the younger selves for the leads in movies like “I, Tonya” and “Captain Marvel.”
Her “Ghostbusters” co-star is Finn Wolfhard, who made his debut at 13 in CW’s “Supernatural” before starring in “Stranger Things” and “It.” Zendaya, star of “Dune: Part Two,” got her start as a Disney Channel regular. Her co-star, Oscar-nominated Austin Butler, cut his teeth at Nickelodeon.

‘Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV’ Recirculated the Exploitative Material It Was Meant to Stop
Accused of fostering a dangerous and sexualizing workplace for kid actors when he was a lead creative at Nickelodeon, Dan Schneider is finally calling for cuts. It’s too bad the disturbing material the ex-showrunner claims he suddenly wants removed from old episodes of “The Amanda Show,” “All That,” and more problematic kids’ programs just re-aired over two nights at primetime on Investigation Discovery.
The sometimes-salacious true crime exposé “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” inadvertently raises an important ethical conundrum: In the name of exposing and confronting objectionable material, is it acceptable to air it again — even in documentary?

Various actors and entertainment industry insiders wrote letters in support of Brian Peck, a voice coach and Nickelodeon actor who was convicted of child sexual abuse, as revealed in Investigation Discovery’s Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
As explained in the docuseries that aired Sunday and Monday nights, Peck was arrested in August 2003 on 11 charges of child sexual abuse. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison in October 2004 and was registered as a sex offender. At the time, the identity of the child actor who was abused by Peck was unknown publicly, and the minor was referred to as John Doe in court documents. The majority of the records were sealed, with details hidden from the public. After nearly 20 years, the documents were unsealed for the documentary.
In the third episode of the series, Drake Bell came forward, revealing he was the child actor in question who was abused by Peck.

Dan Schneider ruled the 90s and early 2000s television; producing and directing one hit show after another. Schneider’s shows like, The Amanda Show, together with sitcoms Kenan & Kel, Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, iCarly, and Victorious gave the industry some of its biggest names.
However, Schneider’s golden era went downhill very quickly when many stars stepped out during the MeToo moment. It is not lost on the masses that many have stayed tight-lipped on the matter. The most prominent name on that list is Ariana Grande’s.

Playing the role of Cat Valentine on the popular Nickelodeon show Victorious, it is highly probable that Grande might have witnessed something untoward if she did not have that happen to her. Hence, her silence on the matter has always been strange. Fans have all sorts of theories and guesses for why she might have stayed mum.

TV producer Dan Schneider has issued a new response to an Investigation Discovery docuseries that uncovers the toxic and dangerous culture on the sets of his Nickelodeon children’s shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The first two installments that dropped Sunday were meant to reveal “an insidious environment rife with allegations of abuse, sexism, racism, and inappropriate dynamics with its underage stars and crew,” according to ID.
The next two episodes air tonight.
“Dan expected and asked a lot from his teams,” according to a statement obtained by Deadline. “They worked long hours and consistently made successful shows. In the challenges of production, Dan could get frustrated at times, and he understands why some employees found that intimidating or stressful. In a career spanning 30+ years, Dan worked with thousands of people, many of whom still tell him how much they enjoyed and appreciated working on his shows.

Singer Joe Jonas reportedly asked for explicit photos from ‘Zoey 101’ star Alexa Nikolas when they were both teens. The former ‘Zoey 101’ star made the allegation amid Joe’s divorce from Sophie Turner.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she dropped the bombshell claim on Friday: “I met Joe Jonas when we were teens and let’s just say he’s the guy who wore a purity ring but asked for nudes,” reports aceshowbiz.com.

Hollywood star Jonah Hill, who had been called out by Alexa Nikolas for his alleged actions of kissing her without her consent when she was just 16, has denied the allegations through his legal experts.

“How much does music care?” asked Melissa Schuman, a recording artist and actress who alleged in 2017 that Nick Carter raped her in the early 2000s. Carter has denied the allegation.
Schuman, a former singer with the girl group Dream, is one of four women and their legal teams who participated in a press conference in downtown Los Angeles on Friday afternoon before heading to tonight’s MusiCares Persons of the Year Gala at the L.A. Convention Center.
Attorney Jeff Anderson, who represents multiple women with cases pending against music industry defendants, said record labels have participated in “systematic concealment” of abuses.

Alexa Nikolas Slams Nickelodeon’s ‘Zoey 101’ Reboot, Says It’s ‘Harmful’ To Survivors Of Child Abuse
Alexa Nikolas, who starred in Nickelodeon’s “Zoey 101” didn’t hold back when sharing her honest opinion about the new original feature film reboot “Zoey 102”, based on the hit series.
While speaking with TMZ outside of a protest to “demand justice for those who have been abused by conservatorships” in West Hollywood, Nikolas shared how she feels about her former co-stars’ participation in the upcoming film.
“It kind of feels counterintuitive to support a network that I feel was complicit in childhood trauma and so I just kind of wish that the ‘Zoey 101’ cast was here today [protesting with Eat Predators, “a survivors-led movement”] and not doing [‘Zoey 102’],” she said.

Former Nickelodeon star Alexa Nikolas has hit out at plans to reboot Zoey 101, claiming it sends a “damaging” message to survivors.
Nikolas, 30, appeared opposite Jamie Lynn Spears in the first two seasons of the kids’ TV show, which aired from 2005 to 2008.
In recent years, the actor has claimed that she “didn’t feel safe” or “protected” at Nickelodeon, even staging a protest at the network’s headquarters last summer.
Earlier in January, it was announced that Zoey 101 is to return for a sequel film – titled Zoey 102 – starring Spears and several other former cast members.
In response, Nikolas protested outside Nickelodeon HQ again on Friday (20 January), telling TMZ that she didn’t believe the film should be made.
“It’s damaging to any survivor that wants to come forward,” she said. “We want to make sure as a society that we are encouraging survivors to come forward and that we’re not discouraging them.
