The second season finale of music series Rhythm + Flow could be live as part of Netflix’s new push into live programming.
The second season of the competition series, which is expected to air later this year, comes four years after the first and will feature new judges DJ Khaled, Ludacris and Latto with Eminem as a special guest.
Brandon Riegg, VP of Nonfiction Series, Netflix, said that it is considering its options when it comes to a live finale.
“Rhythm + Flow season two, down the road, I can see the finale perhaps being live or maybe we’ll try it in other ways. But I’m excited about it. I think live drives a lot of conversation,” he said.

Hulu is presenting Red Bull’s latest death-defying aerial stunt as the exclusive U.S. livestreaming partner. The opportunistic rights pickup shows how Disney is hunting for new head-turning opportunities to help Hulu stand out in the crowded streaming market.
In Red Bull’s Plane Swap event, set for Sunday, April 24, skydivers and pilots Luke Aikins and Andy Farrington — each piloting single-seat Cessna aircrafts to 14,000 feet in the skies over Arizona — will put their planes into a vertical nosedive. They’ll then jump out in midair at 140 mph (leaving the cockpits empty) and attempt to skydive into each other’s planes as they hurtle toward the ground.
The never-before-attempted Plane Swap stunt will be livestreamed on Hulu beginning at 4 p.m. Pt on April 24. Hulu is the exclusive streaming partner of Plane Swap in the U.S. (available to all subscribers) and Red Bull TV is the broadcast platform for rest of the world.

Andrea Bocelli’s widely-viewed Easter Sunday concert stream shattered a number of records on YouTube, as 2.8 million viewers around the world concurrently tuned into the event at peak.
Variety reports that the solo performance -- which took place at the Duomo in Milan, as the Italian capital remains quarantined in light of the coronavirus pandemic -- has become the biggest classical music live stream in YouTube history.. Additionally, the 25-minute video, dubbed Music For Hope — Live From Duomo di Milano, generated 28 million views in 24 hours, with its current count sitting at 35.5 million views.
Variety notes that other music events, including Coachella, have garnered more live views (the first weekend of last year's festival garnered 82.9 million concurrent viewers), though it isn’t exactly a one-to-one comparison, given that that event took place over three days..

“‘It’s not for me.’”
To be fair, that’s how 99.9999% of humans would respond to someone asking them if they’d like to jump out of a plane, traveling at 25,000 feet. With no parachute. And no wingsuit.
Yet, two years after the idea was first broached to him, that’s exactly what Luke Aikins will do on Saturday as part of Fox’s live “Stride Gum Presents Heaven Sent” event.
It’s there that Aikins will look to join a succession of escalating televised shows of athletic daring that has its DNA in the Evel Kneivel jumps of the ’60s and ’70s and that has continued through another massive televised event like Felix Baumgartner’s 2012 Red Bull Stratos dive. Aikins worked with Baumgartner as part of the training staff that prepared him to jump from the outer limits of space, nearly 25 miles from orbit to landing on Earth.

Luke Aikins remembers laughing the first time he was asked to jump out of a plane with nothing but the clothes on his back. "Like any normal, sane person I said, 'Thank you but no thank you I have a wife and a son and I've got a life to live,' " Aikins, 42, tells People. "Then, two weeks went by and I kept waking up in the middle of the night thinking, if somebody said you had to do this how could it be done?" he continues. A third-generation skydiver with 18,000 jumps under his belt, Aikins is more than just a daredevil.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it.s a Superman action figure on the precipice of Earth ready to plummet down to terra firma! Don.t believe me? Then check out this rather odd but also surprisingly and completely engaging clip depicting Superman.s travel through space. Um . I don.t really know what to say. While I have to admit that I was completely transfixed by the clip, after watching it I was struggling to see what the point was in sending the action figure into space. Well, the good people over at Design Spark, who orchestrated the bizarre mission, have helped to reveal more details regarding the project. After being approached by Mattel toys, they set out to recreate Felix Baumgartner.s 39-kilometre fall from space, which took place on October 14, 2012. Back in September, they headed out to Ross-on-Wye, England, to finally complete their task.

Google executive Alan Eustace broke the sound barrier and set several skydiving records over the southern New Mexico desert early Friday after taking a big leap from the edge of space. Eustace's supersonic jump was part of a project by Paragon Space Development Corp. and its Stratospheric Explorer team, which has been working secretly for years to develop a self-contained commercial spacesuit that would allow people to explore some 20 miles above the Earth's surface. Friday's success marked a major step forward in that effort, company officials said. "This has opened up endless possibilities for humans to explore previously seldom visited parts of our stratosphere,...

The wave of video-documented big live stunts triggered by Felix Baumgartner’s space jump continues. Science Channel and Discovery Channel are teaming for an “Apollo Moment” for the millennial generation, televising a live moon landing. The networks have announced that they will be TV partners for Google Lunar Xprize, a $30 million competition for privately funded teams to land an unmanned craft on the moon by December 31, 2015. The networks will air a miniseries that will follow teams from around the world as they race to fulfill the mission requirements: to land a craft on the surface of the moon, travel 500 meters, and transmit live pictures and video back to Earth. That includes testing, lift-off, and live coverage of the winning lunar landing, which is estimated to take place in 2015. “More than half the world’s population has never had the opportunity to experience a live broadcast from the moon,” said Robert K. Weiss,...

One of the most amazing and shocking stories of 2012 involved a record-breaking dive made by Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner, who rode the upper-atmosphere balloon Stratos to 24 miles above the ground, reaching the edge of the stratosphere before diving back to Earth in a spectacular and terrifying free fall; his body actually broke the sound barrier on the way down. While most of you have seen the original footage shot from the balloon's capsule (part of an ad for Red Bull, who co-financed the stunt), not all of the point-of-view footage captured by seven GoPro cameras – mounted in and out of the capsule and on Baumgartner's pressure suit – has been released to the public. Just recently, a new HD clip edited together from the combined footage has been posted to GoPro's YouTube channel, and it's every bit as heart-stopping as you might imagine. In 2013, space-exploration found its way back into popular culture.
While the Mars One mission began assembling its crew for the controversial one-way trip, rock’s Starman par-excellence David Bowie broke his ten-year silence with new album The Next Day, which once again featured tracks that directly dealt with man’s fascination with the confines of the Universe. The movie world saw the return of one of the most successful franchises ever in Star Trek, with J.J. Abrams captaining yet another incursion into “the final frontier”.
It was Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity however, that really marked a milestone in the space subgenre, transporting the audience to a cold and silent vacuum of death in a tale that could easily have been based on Felix Baumgartner’s worst nightmares. Ben Stiller’s take on Walter Mitty made great use of Bowie’s seminal Space Oddity, and in Inside Llewyn Davies the...

With 111.5-million U.S. viewers, and a further 7.3-million in Canada, Super Bowl Xlviii was the most-watched in history. The commercial spots were the most expensive for any TV broadcast in any given year, and there were plenty of big name stars and A-list directors who helped create these very expensive advertisements. John Hillcoat, director of The Road, helmed the spot for Coke. The minute long ad featuring a multilingual rendition of “America the Beautiful” was refreshing to many, but left a bitter taste in the mouth of conservative pundits. Updated: National Geographic Channel is committed to live extreme-event programming. To that end, Nat Geo announced two such projects this morning on the first day of the TCA Summer TV Press Tour. Bob Ballard, aka “the guy who found the Titanic,” will make a dive into an underwater volcano off the coast of Granada. The volcano is so treacherous — a “ticking time bomb,” NatGeo calls it — that no ships are allowed within 10 miles of it, said National Geographic Channels CEO David Lyle. The live dive, Volcano Dive: Live will be telecast Sunday, November 17 and will cap Nat Geo’s celebration of the National Geographic Society’s 125th anniversary. Additionally, rock climber Alex Honnold will climb one of the world’s highest skyscrapers, without a safety line, this fall, the network also announced. Nik won’t stop until he goes down as the greatest death-defying stuntman in history! Almost exactly a year since he became the first man to tightrope across the Niagara Falls, he’s taking his fearless, acrobatic talents to the Grand Canyon. It’ll be his most dangerous stunt ever!
Don’t ask why, but on June 23, Nik Wallenda, 34, will walk on a tightrope stretched across the Little Colorado River Gorge near the Grand Canyon. The third of a mile, razor-thin rope will be suspended 1,500 feet (for reference, that’s about 50 feet higher than the Empire State Building) above the river. Nik will not be wearing a parachute or a harness — and there definitely won’t be a safety net. The best part about all of this? You can watch every second of the high-flying drama on TV.

Among groups known for their gossip, astronauts have been a pretty low-ranking bunch. Yet two words uttered by Buzz Aldrin at a June 8 awards ceremony have tongues wagging.
The words? "Tang sucks."
Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, made the comment at Spike TV's "Guys Choice Awards" while presenting an award to edge-of-space skydiver Felix Baumgartner.
Why would Buzz diss the orange-flavored drink, which was closely associated with early Nasa missions? NBC notes that Aldrin came to his realization while pondering Baumgartner's corporate sponsor, Red Bull.
The astronaut was never sponsored by Tang's manufacturer, General Foods, which provided an unbranded version of the beverage to Nasa.
"The myth ... is that Tang was developed for the space program," Dr. Michele Perchonok, Nasa's manager of the Space Food Systems Laboratory, explained in a 2006 interview with Space.com. "The actual truth is [that] General Foods was making its travel drink mix and Nasa thought,...

The seventh annual Spike TV Guys Choice Awards were both a celebration of all things manly and an irreverent wink toward the silliness of such a singular celebration. The trophy is a “Mantler,” there’s an award for Most Dangerous Man, and prizes are handed out to fictional characters as readily as they are to real people. What other awards show would honor daredevil Felix Baumgartner in the same breath as The Walking Dead’s Dixon brothers? They know their audience.

Buzz Aldrin says he Hates Tang ... and due to the fact he's been married to 3 women, we're guessing he meant the drink. Of course, Tang (the drink) shot to fame as the stuff the astronauts like John Glenn sipped on during space missions back in the day. Tang is to astronauts ... like crack is to whores -- or so we thought! Because at the taping for Spike TV's Guys Choice Awards this weekend -- Buzz shockingly proclaimed,...

Tony Stark may be a fictional character, but not everything in the "Iron Man" films is completely outside the realm of possibility.
At least that much has been demonstrated by Solar System Express (Sol-x) and Juxtopia LLC, two tech startups that have collaborated to create a real-life "Iron Man" suit, which could be used for skydiving from space. Wow.

Conceived in 2011, the Rl Mark VI Space Diving suit would allow thrill-seekers to skydive from up to 62 miles above the earth's surface -- around the edge of space -- and land safely, using thrusters instead of a parachute.
Blaze Sanders, Cto of Sol-x, told The Huffington Post that the idea to devise a suit capable of such feats was developed after hearing about the Red Bull Stratos mission, which aimed to break the world record for highest skydive. (Skydiver Felix Baumgartner went on to complete the 128,100-foot...

In this roundup from the Encore and Mumbrella Annual, we remember the seven bravest advertisers from the last 12 months.
1. Coles
To shamelessly bombard the Australian public with wave after wave of irritating supermarket sing-alongs shows serious balls, if not bravery. But digging up ageing rockers Status Quo for a re-recording of the original Down, Deeper and Down, who played with guitars, drums and keyboards decorated with Coles’ trademark big red hands, showed true daring. Now on a tour of Australia, the track used in the ad is the very first song on the Quo’s new album, which is sold exclusively in Coles supermarkets.
2. McDonald’s
The year after Maccas created the self-funded documentary McDonald’s Gets Grilled, the brand made another leap of faith in branded entertainment with a music video featuring X Factor finalist Johnny Ruffo. Gettin’ Serious was a 60-second R&B tune about love and Maccas’ new lamb burger,...

The main takeaway from this list of 2012′s most viral YouTube clips? The days of “Charlie Bit My Finger” and “David After Dentist” are over.
Only one of these 10 videos — “Facebook Parenting” — was made by an average Joe; the other nine were all professionally produced. “There are more and more people who know how to build an audience, how to use YouTube,” YouTube trends manager Kevin Allocca explained to the Wall Street Journal. “There are companies who spend millions and millions of dollars trying to do create these videos.”

As we at Vulture continue to review the year in culture, there's a lot to talk about. But not to be forgotten are all the viral videos that entertained us in 2012. This year's big winners — as far as your parents are concerned, considering they forwarded you the videos after they saw them on the Today show — are "Gangnam Style," "Call Me Maybe" interpretations, and Felix Baumgartner's planetary plunge. But our list of the top ten viral videos of the year isn't as concerned with pageviews.Shit White Girls Say to Black Girls Although the Shit ____ Say meme technically started in 2011, it was just a couple of days after New Year's when Franchesca Ramsey uploaded her own spin to YouTube. "Shit White Girls Say to Black Girls" wasn't just funny — it was a sharp-tongued, painfully accurate account of what casual racism sounds like. The video made...

One of this fall's big programming events wasn't actually broadcast on TV. Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, a live-action series geared toward the launch of the new Xbox 360 video game, has become a hit for YouTube, where it runs on the young male-oriented Machinima Prime channel.
YouTube is taking on the traditional TV model in a big way, with the help of major stars, original programs like Halo 4 and big events like Felix Baumgartner's space jump, which broke YouTube user records on Oct. 14. A year after YouTube parent Google unleashed an aggressive $100 million initiative to launch around 100 original programming channels (and committed $200 million to market the channels), viewership on the platform was up 11 percent year-to-year in September.
It's a slow build, and so far YouTube's original programming initiative hasn't produced a hit that was big enough to enter the public consciousness. But according to newly released comScore data, YouTube...

After four highly profitable films, the Twilight franchise comes to an end with its fifth entry, Breaking Dawn – Part 2. This film will see the conclusion to the story of vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson) and his new vampire bride Bella (Kristen Stewart), as they try to protect their new child Renesmee (Mackenzie Foy) from evil folk.
In the film, actors Charlie Bewley and Daniel Cudmore play two members of a villainous vampire posse named the Volturi, which also includes actors Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning. The two have been featured in previous films New Moon, Eclipse, and in the previous Breaking Dawn – Part 1. Bewley had a supporting part in Like Crazy, and will be seen in 2013 in the viking epic Hammer of the Gods; Cudmore previously played Colossus in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand.
While they were in the midst of a national publicity tour, I was able to interview the two supporting actors.

Unless over the past year you’ve been living as a hermit following a change of heart career wise or were, and I do apologise for the cliché, in space (we’ll let you off this time Felix Baumgartner), you will have heard that Peter Jackson has directed The Hobbit, a trilogy based on J.R.R Tolkien’s precursor to the Lord of the Rings, the first part which will be released in just over a months time.
Now, if you are like me, and trust me, you’re in a good position if you are, then since the world of Tolkien last graced us back in 2003 following the release of the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, you have been left pining for more. Of course there’s no denying we’ve had fantasy treats a-plenty, HBO’s TV series Game of Thrones based on the novels by George R.

Views at the Google-funded YouTube channels looked a lot more normal in the seven days that ended October 24 than they did the previous week — which benefited from the outsized performance at Redbull with skydiver Felix Baumgartner’s supersonic 120,000-foot freefall. Noisey stood out after it introduced a controversial video for the tune “Fatty Boom Boom” from South African rap-rave group Die Antwoord. The video, which imagines Lady Gaga being eaten by a lion, contributed to the channel’s 4.1M views, up 2.4M vs the previous week, and helped it to jump to No. 4 in the week’s rankings, up seven. All in all, views at the channels we track fell 31.6% to 97.3M, with the top 10 channels accounting for 66.3% of the total. Joining the top 10 along with Noisey was Young Hollywood, up two spots to No. 10. Entv, from Deadline’s parent Pmc, dropped one slot to No. 11 and DanceOn fell three to No.

By dealing with the question of Tony Stark's relationship with his suit, the third Iron Man instalment might prove the best so far
If you had a set of superhero top trumps, Iron Man would probably not represent one of the very strongest cards. IGN rated Tony Stark's alter ego the 12th greatest comic book hero in a recent rundown, below Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash and even Dick Grayson, aka Robin. Yet somehow Iron Man punches above his weight on the big screen: 2008's debut Jon Favreau-directed venture delivered a modern-day superhero in the form of a reformed arms dealer and scientific genius who uses technology to reinvent himself. A comic book movie which took note of contemporary geopolitics may have been been a slightly unwieldy proposition, but it at least gave us a hero to root for who felt of his time (rather than eternally stuck...

Once again the universe of Google-funded YouTube channels stood in the shadow of Red Bull and the record-setting views for its October 14 webcast of skydiver Felix Baumgartner’s supersonic 120,000-foot freefall. The channel had 70.1M views in our tally for the week that ended October 17. That’s three times more than it had the previous week, when it had unusually high results for Baumgartner’s originally scheduled jump that was aborted due to high winds. This time Red Bull accounted for more than 49% of the 142.3M weekly views on the channels that we monitor while the top 10 channels accounted for 75%. Things were relatively steady within that group; a few shifts in rank but no changes among the names there. Meanwhile, the channels gaining the most views were: Redbull, Nuevon (+641,477 to 1.5M), Be Fit (+179,864 to 759,883), Pitchfork TV (+159,344 to 1.3M), and The Onion (+157,889 to 1.7M). Biggest improvements by rank: Kin Community (+34 to No.

Chicago – Most of us thought it wouldn’t happen, others thought it couldn’t, and a select few thought it never should. Despite being the best in the world at what they do, dominating the competition, and improving themselves day in and day out, most of us were ultimately doubters. But we were proven wrong. No, I’m not talking about the Heat’s NBA championship, but instead referring to the fact that, finally, thankfully, gratefully, developer Visual Concepts moved the dribble moves to the right analog stick in “NBA 2K13.” For far too long gamers have struggled to find their swagger while wrestling the complicated, “Street Fighter”-esque control scheme. Now, things are just as complicated, but at least the cross-overs and hot steps have their own place to call home.

"You would not be human if you would not have fear up there," the 43-year-old Baumgartner told the morning show. "If something goes wrong, you're dead in 15...
