It’s time for “Music’s biggest night,” and the arrival of the 63rd Grammys comes at a crossroads created by the worldwide pandemic.
The usual drama surrounds the event. The Weeknd and Beyonce are both involved in snubs of the show, diminishing the star power of the broadcast, and other artists no doubt are making life difficult for show producers working under difficult constraints in the pandemic age.
The good news of the moment is that In 2020, the Recording Industry Assn. of America said United States recorded music revenues grew 8.9% to $8.0 billion. Worldwide, those figures are more than doubled, hitting an estimated $20.2 billion, per the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry,
But RIAA Chairman/CEO Mitch Glazier acknowledged the pain amid the growth.
“In 2020 we grieved epochal losses of giants from every corner of our industry — from Charley Pride to Chynna, Eddie Van Halen to John Prine, Bonnie Pointer to Little Richard,...

Singer Bonnie Pointer, who co-founded the Grammy-winning Pointer Sisters in 1969 with her sister June, died Monday at 69 years old. Expanding to a quartet with the addition of Anita and Ruth Pointer, the group’s early days were notable for their campy chic attire, their vocal style a throwback to the Thirties and Forties. But in 1974, after scoring a hit with the bouncy Allen Toussaint-penned “Yes We Can Can,” the Pointers released the twangy “Fairytale,” which earned them their sole entry on the country chart at Number 37.

Tiger Woods' former mistress Rachel Uchitel will be in good company when she checks into TV show Celebrity Rehab later this week (ends23Jul10) - the facility will be full of recent headline makers.
Joining her on the reality TV show, hosted by celebrity counsellor Dr. Drew Pinsky, will be Jeremy London, Jason Wahler and former teen idol Leif Garrett.
Actor London recently hit the news when he reported he'd been kidnapped and forced to buy drugs and alcohol for a gang of youths in Palm Desert, California; reality TV bad boy Wahler was arrested and booked for misdemeanour battery in June after allegedly assaulting a woman at a party in Hollywood, California, and Garrett faces jail time after he was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin in February.
The troubled stars fighting their drink and drugs demons at the Pasadena Recovery Center, where Celebrity Rehab is filmed, will be joined by fashion icon Janice Dickinson and oil heir Jason Davis, among others.
It is not known whether previously announced rehab-mates Bonnie Pointer, Tila Tequila and rapper Bizzy Bone will be part of the new show.
Producers initially feared they would have to scrap the season after failing to net enough star names. They reportedly offered Lindsay Lohan and Liza Minnelli big deals to appear on the show. Both stars turned them down.
