Stars: Robert Miano, Benjamin Philip, Silvia Spross, Cyril O’Reilly, Rico E. Anderson, Kurt Bonzell, Jon Budinoff, Scott Vogel, Timothy Muskatell, Roger Garcia, Elli Rahn | Written and Directed by Chad Ferrin
Chad Ferrin, director of the outrageous fun Exorcism at 60,000 Feet follows up his 2020 foray into the world of H.P. Lovecraft, The Deep Ones, with The Old Ones – an even truer take on the work of Lovecraft than ever before, including the likes of Captain Marsh, Cthulhu and R’lyeh.
Speaking of Captain Marsh, The Old Ones sees two fishermen, Dan Gordon (Scott Vogel) and his son Gideon (Benjamin Philip), pull an old man out of the water. He turns out to be Marsh, who explains that he’s been kept alive for the past 93 years as a vessel of the Great Old One and then sacrificed to the same gods by the cult of worshippers – as seen in this film’s animated intro.

Another Lovecraft-inspired horror movie is on the way, with our friends over at Rue Morgue debuting the trailer for director Chad Ferrin’s upcoming indie The Old Ones this week.
Breaking Glass Pictures will summon The Old Ones on VOD March 19, 2024.
You can watch the official trailer for The Old Ones below, which previews an impressive array of old school practical effects that should make this low budget effort a fun watch.
In the film…
“In 1930, sea captain Russel Marsh saw the light, and for 93 years his body was not his own. Inhabited by a Great Old One, he committed unspeakable acts in the name of the Esoteric Order of Dagon. Now free, he is in search of a way to go back in time to reverse the horrors wrought upon the world. But the cult has other plans, and will stop at nothing to destroy him.”

Director Chad Ferrin, from Someone's Knocking on the Door and The Ghouls fame, has released the first trailer for The Chair. The clip shows a sadistic prison warden and his many prisoners. Each undergoes a horrifying series of tortures. Starring Bill Oberst Jr., Zach Galligan and Roddy Piper, fans of horror can preview the film here. For more on the story, The Chair focuses on Richard Sullivan (Timothy Muskatell). He is sentenced to Death Row, despite being innocent. His fellow prisoners are used as victims of the warden, while he does his best to survive day to day. When the torture becomes too much, Richard turns on everyone around him. But, when his sanity begins to leave him, Richard begins to understand that there are things worse than death. The first trailer for the film shows some of the settings and characters. The film is shot mostly indoors, behind bars.

The powers-that-be behind the film adaptation of Alterna Comics' The Chair chose the right person to appear in their new teaser trailer. The great Bill Oberst, Jr., is front and center, and we can't think of anyone better to send shivers down our spines this fine Easter Sunday!
Producer, co-writer, and creator of the graphic novel Peter Simeti previously said of the teaser, "If [it] doesn't let you know what you'll be in store for, then nothing else will. We are making a horror film that has as much 'brains' in it as it does 'guts'."
Adaptation helmer Chad Ferrin and Dave DeFino co-directed the trailer, which stars Oberst as The Warden. Also appearing in the film are Eric Roberts, Naomi Grossman, Zach Galligan, Derrick Damions, Susan Eisenberg, Ezra Buzzington, Kyle Hester, Jacob Banser, Loren Lester, Timothy Muskatell, and Kin Shriner.

Written and directed by Cain (whose previous genre features include Silent Night, Zombie Night and Breath of Hate), Jurassic Block is produced by Anthony Fankhuaser and J.J. Revenge is a dish best served cold … and sometimes without even knowing what the entrée is. In Chop, Will Keenan stars as a man being tortured — both psychologically and physically — by a mysterious stranger (Timothy Muskatell) who claims Keenan wronged him in the past, despite Keenan’s insistence that he simply doesn’t remember the dude. With no apologies forthcoming, Keenan is ordered to first dispatch certain family members, then pieces of his own body in Trent Haaga’s bloody horror comedy.
Chop is Haaga’s directing debut and, made in 2011, still his only directing credit. Also an actor, Haaga first worked with Keenan on the set of a pair of Troma films, Terror Firmer and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV. They learned well under sensei Lloyd Kaufman with Chop being reasonably described as Troma-lite with a fun manic and absurdist tone with some fairly gory sequences.

Director: Chad Ferrin. Review: Adam Wing. In order to finance Unspeakable, independent filmmaker Chad Ferrin was forced to sell his house, and he didn’t make a dime from it. Three years later he was at it again, but this time – in order to make low budget horror The Ghouls – he waved goodbye to his 68 ½ Mustang. Ferrin was a little more successful this time out, and the finished article has arrived on a features packed DVD courtesy of Cine Du Monde. Unspeakable was Chad Ferrin’s writing and feature-directing debut, and he introduced himself to the world in the loudest way possible. Cheap and cheerless, blunt and brutal, Unspeakable isn’t a good film in the traditional sense of the word, but its raw and uncompromising filmmaking that fans of low budget horror will revel in. Six years after Unspeakable Chad made Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill! Both films are now available in the UK,...

Yes! Bd Selects has done it again. As many of you already know, I am a huge supporter of the Bd Selects (Bloody Disgusting) series. I do not care about the site itself, but I do care about the film division and what they have been doing for horror; without them, we would not have The Woman (so stop yelling). I have seen just about every film Bd Selects has put out and I am constantly waiting to see what they will release next. Chop was slated for their project and I met the news with lukewarm feelings. The apathetic status came from hearing that it was going to be a horror-comedy, and even though it is directed by the writer of Deadgirl, I was still a bit uneasy. Horror comedies have a way with going south, more often than not, hence my reservations. Deadgirl ranks high in recent horror films that I adore,...

Director: Chad Ferrin. Review: Adam Wing. With a tagline that reads “Don’t expect Easter eggs”, Chad Ferrin makes it pretty clear what to expect from his holiday horror Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill! Chad cut his teeth on films like Unspeakable, The Ghouls and most recently, Someone’s Knocking at the Door. Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill! is his fifth full-length feature, blessed with bloodthirsty killings and more crazies than a George A. Romero movie. There’s a good chance Elmer Fudd won’t be chasing down this particular wascally rabbit, but you can buy it on DVD courtesy of Cine du Monde. A murderous grifter (Timothy Muskatell) cons his way into a mother’s heart, unaware that he’ll have to make ‘nice’ with her treasured son, Nicholas (Ricardo Gray). Mindy (Charlotte Marie) has always had a penchant for ill-fitting boyfriends, unlike the little black dress she wears at the start of the movie.

My apologies to all the Ontarians out there, but your province is boring. Eastern Quebec is refreshingly green, vibrant and interesting . It's as if nature decided it wanted more space, and tried to ruin our highway roads in order to expand (all right, so our roads are shit, and it's the government's fault, sue me). Once you make your way to the Ontario border, the trees begin to look depressed, the concrete roads are bigger, and you try not to fall asleep. Finally, once you've reached Toronto, you're relieved but too tired and sleepy to enjoy it. This is exactly how I felt watching Chop, from first time director Trent Haaga, who's appeared in more terrible B-movie horror films than I care to mention (although Dr. Horror's Erotic House of Idiots seems like something I'd pick up on a slow Friday night) but largely fails at making his own.

*A screener of this film was provided by director Trent Haaga.
Director: Trent Haaga.
Writer: Adam Minarovich.
Director Trent Haaga (Killjoy 3) has a strong relationship with horror films as an actor. Now, he directs his first film with Chop, a comedic initial entry. Writer Adam Minarovich is also familiar with the genres of horror and comedy, with an appearance on the first season of The Walking Dead and a showing in Wiseguys vs. Zombies. Together, they have found a way to tickle viewer's funny bones in Chop, despite a screen full of blood and gore. Actor Will Keenan incites much of the laughter, as his character Lance digs his own grave with stories of accidental murder and mayhem. However, actors Timothy Muskatell and Ricardo Grey also bring some chuckles, as weirdly dressed characters.

What a coincidence? Today, a screener for Trent Haaga's Chop comes in the mail and also showing is the first teaser trailer for this horrifying film. The film begs the question, what if every bad deed you performed came back to you two-fold? You would become a better person real quick, right? This is the basic premise for Haaga's first film and with this actor and filmmaker, you just never know what to expect. So, welcome the bloodily violent marketing campaign for Chop, by watching the first mature rated trailer below!
A partial synopsis for the film is here:
"Every dirty deed you’ve perpetrated in the past is going to come back and bite you in the ass. Whether it’s that person you cheated on back in high school, that side-view mirror you remorselessly took out this Winter, or the time you thought it would be cool...

Following in the tradition of the slasher genre, Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill! uses a beloved holiday as the backdrop for a madman's murderous rampage. However, instead of stalking babysitters or sorority sisters, this film tells a much more interesting and sinister tale.
Mindy, a single mother of a sixteen year old mentally challenged son, Nicholas, struggles with the responsibilities involved in raising a special needs child. She often works double shifts at her nursing job and relies on the wife of her handyman for childcare. So when Rem, a smooth talking and by all appearances, a genuinely nice, caring guy comes into her life, she instantly begins to have feelings for him. However, Nicholas is immediately suspicious and takes an instant disliking to Rem, and for very good reason. It turns out Rem is really a cruel,...

With director Sean Cain busy putting the finishing touches on Breath of Hate, he also checked in with Dread Central to give us an exclusive look at the brand new poster for the flick, designed by Jason Beam.
When asked about the current production status on the project, Cain said “We are about to sign a few amazing artists to have songs in Breath of Hate, and then we just have to finish up the 5.1 mix. All of this should be finished by the end of this month so our rep has been busy working on securing distribution for the film in the meantime. We’re aiming for a limited theatrical release as well.”

I just finished screening this movie entitled Silent Night, Zombie Night from director Sean Cain. The film co-starred legendary scream queen diva Felissa Rose along with Jack Forcinito, Andy Hopper, Nadine Stenovitch, Lew Temple, Vernon Wells, Sara Tomko, Luke Y. Thompson, Ricardo Gray, John Karyus, Domiziano Arcangeli and Tim Muskatell. Silent Night Zombie Night takes place a week before Christmas, as a viral outbreak turns the citizens of Los Angeles into the feral undead. On the brink of breaking up with both his wife and partner, L.A.P.D. officer Frank Talbot finds himself trapped in a apartment with them. As death closes in, they try not only to survive, but work around the fact both men love the same woman. One thing kept popping up in my mind as I watched the film, the three leads of this film definitely have the presence, the charisma, the acting chops,...

The second annual Reaper Awards descended onto the historic Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood on Tuesday, October 12th, in high fashion as the hotel was packed to celebrate the best horror titles released over the last year on DVD and Blu-Ray.
The Reaper Awards were hosted by Dread Central’s own fearless leader, Steve “Uncle Creepy” Barton, and the awards themselves (The Grimmys) are given out as part of a collaborative effort between Dread and Home Media Magazine to put the spotlight on genre titles which mainstream award shows generally overlook.
On hand for the Reaper Awards was a proverbial “Who’s Who” in the horror genre, including director Darren Lynn Bousman (Mother’s Day), actor Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects), iconic director Tom Holland (the original Fright Night), director Adam Green (Hatchet II), actress Rileah Vanderbilt (Hatchet II), director Neil Marshall (Centurion), actress Axelle Carolyn (Centurion), director Declan O...

Grimmupnorth 2010 is coming to Manchester for a second time this Halloween! Readers may remember last year’s coverage from the first Grimmfest last October ‘09. Well, we’re going back for more this year too. Festival director Simeon Halligan and his crew have spent all year finding some amazing new titles to screen at Manchester’s biggest horror film festival, including Evil: In The Time Of Heroes, which I missed at Eiff so am well up for seeing. There’s also the inventively named Canadian shocker, Dead Hooker In A Trunk, the Japanese genre mash-up Alien Vs Ninja, Thai thriller Slice, Zombie mock-u-mentary Reel Zombies and a horror doc featuring all kinds of industry insiders, The Splat Pack. There’s also a ton of activities and seminars for festival goers to participate in too. Personally I’m looking forward to the special screening for my favourite Argento film, Deep Red.

Tammi Sutton is one of the busiest people working in horror today. Having covered what seems like every aspect of the filmmaking process from being a director, producer, production designer, art designer, costume designer, actress, heck she is even editing one of her upcoming films! Is there anything that this bright up and comer can't tackle?!? Judging by her resume, no! I recently had the chance to ask her a few questions about her latest genre film, Sutures. It is refreshing to have another female voice directing in the horror genre. What made you want to start making horror films?
I've loved watching horror films all my life. I watched a lot of Universal, Hammer and Amicus Horror films growing up and of course all the drive-in, exploitation stuff of the seventies as I got older, they've all had a lasting impression. Movies were where most kids connected to the...

28Dla is going behind the scenes to take a look at director Trent Haaga's (Deadgirl) latest, Chop. Haaga brings an actor's experience to this film with appearances in over thirty films including Chad Ferrin's Someone's Knocking at the Door, the upcoming indie flick Sutures and many more. In this latest production a young couple must confront their past at the hands of a psychotic stranger (Bloody). A revenge thriller for sure, Chop also has a comedic element and principal photography on this independent feature was completed within Los Angeles, recently.

Director/writer: Chad Ferrin.
Crappy World Productions have produced indie thrillers like Someone is Knocking on the Door, The Ghouls, Unspeakable and now Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill!. Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill! was completed in 2008 and did not find a distributor right away, but recently the film was released by Vicious Circle Films on DVD June 1st (Amazon). This is director Chad Ferrin's fifth feature and some strangeness appears early on in the show in the form of plastic wrap. Easter Bunny stays primarily within one set and while the film has been lambasted by other reviewers (Horroryearbook) the film has some charm while falling off in the third act.
Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill!, put succinctly, involves a fractured family with mom performing double-duty as a night nurse and caregiver to a mentally retarded child who also suffers from cerebral palsy (Mrcp). Enter Timothy Muskatell as Remington who plays a low-life degenerate.

It's hard to believe Dread Central readers that it's been about 3 1/2 months since I posted my last video production blog for the upcoming twisted horror flick Breath of Hate, but here we are in January 2010, and I thought what better way to move forward into a new year than by giving you an exclusive look at some more behind-the-scenes shenanigans from the set.

Now filming in the Los Angeles area is the indie horror flick Chop, the directorial debut of genre veteran Trent Haaga (writer of Deadgirl and long time Troma actor/writer). Chop, which stars Tanishaa Mukherji, Billy Bakshi, Malaya Manson, Haaga and Timothy Muskatell, centers on a seemingly innocent young couple, forced by a psychotic stranger to confront their duplicitous past. It's a revenge thriller with a comedic edge in the tradition of Fargo and Oldboy. The Horror Chick Heather Wixson took a brief vacation so there was a delay in all of her Breath of Hate goodies. But fear not; she's back, and we've got Day Eight right here for you!
On the eighth day of shooting, the set was filled to the brim with lots of new and familiar faces, including Sleepaway Camp actress Felissa Rose, who was about two weeks away from her due date while working on set. She was such a trooper, she even allowed herself to get tied up for a scene in the back of The Horror Chick's car. We also got to meet a few more of the "bad kids" including Selma (Monique Parent) and Cleb (Ricardo Gray), and director Sean Cain took his turn at doing some of the behind-the-scenes footage himself. Prepare to see Heather run from the camera!

Hey, Dread fiends, hope you all had a relaxing Labor Day! Now that you've had some time to reboot, The Horror Chick Heather Wixson has your next Breath of Hate on-set Video Production Blog.
Day Seven marked the last day on set for actor Jason Mewes. Mewes and Breath of Hate director Sean Cain gave Heather a very special introduction for the day. We also got to know two more of the lovely actresses in the flick and had an interesting round of "word association" with writer/producer Wes Laurie.
