.Any other team wins the World Series, good for them.
They’re drinking champagne, they get a ring.
But if we win, on our budget, with this team…we’ll change the game.
And that’s what I want. I want it to mean something..
In 2003, former Salomon Brothers bond trader turned author Michael Lewis, at the time best known for such business and politics bestsellers as Liar.s Poker and The New New Thing, published a book about baseball. Only it wasn.t just about baseball. On the surface, it was about how the under-funded, underrated Oakland A.s took on an unfair system of big-money and powerhouse teams. But it was really about the fascinating mix of men behind a major cultural shift and how a risky vision, born from necessity, becomes reality, when a ragtag team of cast-offs rejected due to unfounded biases, get the chance to finally prove their potential.

'Unstoppable'
You can't say you don't know what your gonna get with a Tony Scott movie about a runaway freight train and the attempts by two men—played by Denzel Washington and Chris Pine – to stop it: flashy directing, non-stop action and big explosions. Yet Unstoppable deserves more credit than that synopsis might imply. This is the kind of action movie that Scott was directing back in the '90s before he redefined 'going overboard' with the Transformers series. Back then Scott was relatively restrained and there was a level of intelligence in his filmmaking that his more recent work has lacked (although it's still evident Scott Free productions such as The Good Wife).
Although not quite as good as Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State and Spy Game, Unstoppable at least harks back to those days. The almost always watchable Denzel Washington is a reliable leading man...

In the small room in the Vue cinema Leicester Square, the stars from Conviction, Minnie Driver, Sam Rockwell, Hilary Swank and Betty Anne Waters answered questions from the press about the film. Here’s how it went:
Betty Anne, how receptive were you initially to the idea about making a film about your life’s work to honour your brother Kenny?
Betty Anne: Well receptive? It was my brother Kenny who wanted the movie more than anything. The day that he was released from prison I thought that he would be in the paper for the day. Well, Hollywood was calling my house for two months and he would answer the phone and he said “Betty Anne, there’s going to be a movie.” And I said “Stop answering the phone!” But he didn’t. So I became proactive and I got really lucky and I found Andrew Karsch, the producer and Tony Goldwyn,...

Director Tony Goldwyn talks to Film independent about his latest feature Conviction
Actor/director Tony Goldwyn saw his latest feature, Conviction, through nine years of development. At one time, the project was at Universal Pictures. But when the studio decided not to make it, Goldwyn was able to take it and try to raise the money elsewhere, along with producer Andrew Karsch, who was the first to buy the rights to the story of brother and sister Betty Anne and Kenny Waters. Kenny Waters spent 18 years in prison for murder--a crime he maintained he never committed. His sister, a working mother of two young children, decided to finish college and attend law school to exonerate her brother. She enlisted the help of celebrity lawyer Barry Scheck and the Innocence Project, which takes on questionable death penalty cases and investigates through DNA and other techniques to see if the person convicted...
