Following Raw and Titane, Julia Ducournau has set her third feature with Alpha. Though no plot details have been unveiled this far, Golshifteh Farahani and Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) will lead the film, Deadline reports. “Alpha is Julia’s most personal, profound work yet, and we are looking forward to a global audience discovering the story with as much excitement as we did,” said Filmnation and Charades, while the producers added, “Alpha is a new page in Julia Ducournau’s corpus that is both very consistent with the previous ones and entirely new in its tone.”

Is one renaissance man about to take on another? Apparently so, as IndieWire has confirmed that Andrew Haigh has been tapped to helm a highly anticipated adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s lauded 2017 biography of Leonardo Da Vinci. Paramount had initially won the film rights when the book was first released and even cast the world’s 2nd most famous Leonardo, Di Caprio, in the lead role. Unfortunately, its version eventually went into turnaround allowing Universal to swoop in (perhaps with the use of Da Vinci’s ornithopter) and create a fresh package with Haigh. Initially it was announced that Christopher Hampton would be scripting the piece, but with Haigh now onboard, Universal looks to be giving him full creative oversight, perhaps in an effort to summon the spirit of Da Vinci himself.

Universal Pictures has tapped renowned British filmmaker Andrew Haigh (All of Us Strangers) to write and direct a Leonardo da Vinci film based on Walter Isaacson’s bestselling 2017 biography of the artist, Deadline can confirm.
Based on thousands of pages from Da Vinci’s notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, the biography looks to connect his art to his science, showing how Leonardo’s genius was based on skills we can improve in ourselves, such as passionate curiosity, careful observation, and an imagination so playful that it flirted with fantasy.
An icon of the Italian Renaissance, Da Vinci was not only a prolific painter but also a polymath excelling in various fields including science, engineering, and anatomy. His masterpieces, the “Mona Lisa,” and “The Last Supper” are among the most recognizable and influential works of art in history.
Christopher Hampton wrote a previous draft of the Da Vinci script.

Universal Pictures has found its director for the high-priority Leonardo da Vinci film. “All of Us Strangers” helmer Andrew Haigh has signed on to direct and adapt Walter Isaacson’s acclaimed biography of the Renaissance man.
Based on thousands of pages from Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, Isaacson’s book became one of the hottest literary properties when it hit the market in 2017. At the time, Universal was outbid by Paramount, which developed the project with Leonardo DiCaprio for years before putting it in turnaround. Universal quietly picked it up last year. The runaway bestseller connects da Vinci’s transcendent art, which includes the Mona Lisa painting hanging in the Louvre, to his trailblazing science — and shows how his genius was driven by an insatiable curiosity, careful observation and a whimsical imagination. Austin Butler is continuing his auteur collaborations, this time partnering up with Darren Aronofsky.
Butler, who was Oscar-nominated for his breakout transformative “Elvis” role, is set to lead Aronofsky’s upcoming feature “Caught Stealing.” Novelist Charlie Huston will adapt his own work for the screen. Protozoa is producing the Sony crime thriller. The novel is the first installment of Huston’s Henry Thompson trilogy series.
“Caught Stealing” was originally set for an adaptation in 2013 with Patrick Wilson cast in the lead role, now occupied by Butler. The story follows Hank Thompson, a former high school baseball prospect turned alcoholic bartender who gets caught up in a treasure hunt through New York City. A sadistic police officer tries to outrun Thompson, hitmen, and mobsters to find the treasure. Alec Baldwin was cast as the cop in the 2013 iteration that was slated to be written by David Hayter and directed by Wayne Kramer.

It’s a Hell of a lot more than 140 characters, but the severance and benefits lawsuit against Elon Musk and X Corp from a quartet of ex-Twitter executives sends a very clear message.
Hand over the money you owe us!
That’s a message to the total tune of $128 million claim former CEO, Parag Agrawal, ex-cfo Ned Segal, former Clo Vijaya Gadde, and ex General Counsel Sean Edgett in a complaint filed in federal court in northern California today.
“Because Musk decided he didn’t want to pay Plaintiffs’ severance benefits, he simply fired them without reason, then made up fake cause and appointed employees of his various companies to uphold his decision,” the somewhat redacted six-claim filing notes.

If you’ve turned on a television in 2023, there’s a good chance you’ve encountered a male tech billionaire with a penchant for breaking the rules. On “Succession,” there was Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård), the Swedish maverick who rendered the titular question moot by swallowing Waystar Royco whole. “The Morning Show” featured Paul Marks (Jon Hamm), the aerospace magnate who flirted with both Jennifer Aniston’s Alex Levy and acquiring her employer. FX’s “A Murder at the End of the World” included Andy Ronson (Clive Owen), the mysterious genius whose Icelandic retreat takes a deadly turn.
All these characters are composites, with elements of multiple real-life oligarchs with an outsized influence on world affairs. Matsson has shades of Daniel Ek, Scandinavia’s most famous entrepreneur and the fellow proprietor of a streaming service; Marks using a morning show to promote his privately run rocket launch directly invokes Michael Strahan...

Revered and reviled U.S. diplomat Henry Kissinger, whose death at 100 on Nov. 29 was met with the widespread view that his realpolitik was responsible for some of this country’s worst global war crimes, loved American celebrity — both his own, an expression of state power, as well as that of others, especially performers. He was “the ultimate starfucker,” noted Daniel Drezner, professor of international politics at the Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, in an appraisal published earlier this year on the occasion of Kissinger’s centennial.
Prior to meeting President Richard Nixon in 1967, Kissinger made frequent trips to Santa Monica to consult with the Rand Corporation, a global policy think tank. But after being appointed as national security adviser by the newly elected president in 1969, his profile skyrocketed — and the glitz of Hollywood was within reach. In my time working at a bookstore in Princeton, NJ, I weathered three Walter Isaacson releases: “Do we have more Musk downstairs?” These glossy bricks appeared every two to three years, addressing generic and totemic enough subjects to make reasonably anonymous holiday gifts. I mention Princeton only to speak to a specific slice of Isaac’s demographic, which is to say, university people for whom “genius” means “successful in a non-partisan way.” The town—like the author, perhaps—has good literary intentions that go awry when the moneyed attentions show up; as if “success” is any indication of relative worth, as if a biography of Kissinger could be non-partisan.
That these framings might be mutually profitable as Hollywood’s biopicking—see Steve Jobs (2015)—is a basically foregone conclusion. They reproduce the Exceptional Man narrative while maintaining enough researched temperance so as to not appear solely an endorsement. They read their subjects,...

Word is circulating online that A24 wants Darren Aronofsky to turn the Walter Isaacson authorized biography on Elon Musk into a feature film. This comes as Apple is working toward the same goal with fallen cryptocurrency kingpin Samuel Bankman-Fried based on the subject-friendly Michael Lewis book Going Infinite.
These can be tricky assignments especially when the subjects are still living their third acts, but in the case of Musk in particular, Aronofsky and A24 will have to deal with the sobering prospect: do they make a Faustian bargain with Musk that gives access, but might also turn arguably the most polarizing figure in the world this side of Donald Trump into someone warm and fuzzy?
On the Bankman-Friedman book, the intriguing thing is that this nerd who has been convicted of fraud and costing many a lot of money has a book written by Lewis that was knocked big time...

An Elon Musk biopic is being developed at A24 with Darren Aronofsky attached to direct, as first reported by Puck News and confirmed by multiple outlets.
The film will be based on author Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography Elon Musk. Isaacson’s book Steve Jobs also served as the basis of Danny Boyle’s Oscar-nominated 2015 film of the same name, starring Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet.
Musk founded SpaceX in 2002 and shrewdly invested in Tesla a few years later before becoming CEO of the electric automaker. More recently, he purchased Twitter for $44 Billion after trying to back out of the acquisition and made massive changes to the social media platform, including charging $8 per month for a blue checkmark and renaming it to X.
During Musk’s tenure as the owner of Twitter, numerous celebrities have vocally criticized him and quit the platform, including Trent Reznor, Jack White, and Elton John.

The actors strike is over, and news has emerged that a biopic of Elon Musk, directed by filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, is in the works. The movie from A24 is to be based on Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography of Musk.
So the guessing game is on: Who would best capture the essence of the mercurial, meme-loving tech mogul on the big screen?
It won’t surprise you to learn that the internet has already chewed over this question. In a recent Reddit thread, commenters’ top-voted casting picks for Musk were: Nicolas Cage, Rami Malek, Robert Downey Jr. and Jesse Eisenberg (the last being a troll’s pick: Eisenberg starred as Musk rival Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Network”).
Other suggestions from sundry corners of the web have included Brendan Fraser (who incidentally starred in Aronofsky’s “The Whale”); Matt LeBlanc of “Friends” fame; Scottish-American actor John Barrowman; Kevin Durand; and Matthew Broderick.

Look, in order to write about film for a living, you truly have to love the medium of movies unconditionally. So, believe me when I say that it's genuinely difficult to imagine a less appealing combination of words than the ones in the headline above and which I'm going to attempt to make sense of here. Hot off the divisive reactions and internet memes that followed the release of last year's "The Whale," visionary filmmaker Darren Aronofsky has apparently lined up his next project, and it's almost guaranteed to be even more controversial than anything the director has made yet -- which is saying a lot!

The Oscar-nominated director will adapt the recent biography by Walter Isaacson after independent studio A24 won a ‘heated’ bidding war for rights
A biopic of billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk is now in the works after independent studio A24 won the adaptation rights to Walter Isaacson’s recent biography, with Black Swan’s Darren Aronofsky on board to direct.
Variety magazine reports that A24 triumphed in a “heated competition” bidding war to acquire Isaacson’s authorised biography Elon Musk, which was published in September. It was heavily criticised in some quarters, with the Guardian describing it as a “dull, insight-free doorstop of a book”, and it generated a number of controversies itself, with Isaacson forced to correct a suggestion that Musk had ordered his Starlink satellite communications network to be turned off to stop a Ukrainian drone attack on Russian warships.

The writers’ strike ending weeks ago means projects are back in development. Variety has now confirmed, from a story that Puck reported, that a new biopic is in development at A24 that will depict the life of the controversial Tesla Motors CEO and owner of Twitter, now called X, Elon Musk. The project also already has a director attached, with The Whale‘s Darren Aronofsky on board to tell the story of the tech billionaire. The movie is set to use Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography as a source for the film’s script. There hasn’t yet been a writer announced to pen the screenplay.
There are sources that have told Variety that there was an intense bidding war for the option of adapting Isaacson’s book. The indie studio notorious for its projects that are less accessible to mass audiences, A24, is said to emerge as the victor.

Darren Aronofsky has lined up his next project: a biopic on the life of Elon Musk for A24.
A representative for A24 confirmed the project to IndieWire; it was originally reported by Puck. The film will be based on Walter Isaacson’s biography of the tech mogul and SpaceX CEO, published this past September. Isaacson’s 2011 biography of Steve Jobs inspired the 2015 Oscar-nominated film directed by Danny Boyle.
The Elon Musk biopic marks the “Requiem for a Dream” filmmaker’s second homegrown project at A24 after last year’s “The Whale” won Brendan Fraser the Oscar for Best Actor. Prior to “The Whale,” Aronofsky directed the provocative biblical allegory “mother!” for Paramount and, in 2011, received an Academy Award nomination for Best Director for Searchlight’s “Black Swan.” Most recently, Aronofsky directed the film “Postcards from Earth,” currently showing exclusively at The Sphere in Las Vegas.

An Elon Musk biopic is in development at A24 with Darren Aronofsky on board to direct, Variety has confirmed.
Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography of the controversial tech mogul, which was published in September, will serve as the basis for the screenplay. Isaacson’s “Steve Jobs” book was previously adapted into the 2015 Universal film of the same name, starring Michael Fassbender as the Apple CEO.
Sources tell Variety that there was heated competition to option Isaacson’s book from studios and filmmakers alike, with A24 ultimately winning the bidding war. Aronofsky, who most recently directed last year’s Oscar contender “The Whale” starring Brendan Fraser, is known for his surreal filmmaking style, which often includes psychological elements. His past credits include “Requiem for a Dream” (2000), “Black Swan” (2010) and “Mother!” (2017). For his work on “Black Swan,” Aronofsky was nominated for the best director Oscar, while Portman ended up winning the best actress award.

Christopher Hampton, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “The Father” and “Dangerous Liaisons,” is set to adapt Walter Isaacson’s acclaimed biography “Leonardo Da Vinci” for Universal Pictures.
Universal Pictures had fiercely chased rights to the hot literary property six years ago, and was outbid by Paramount, which developed the project with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way. Now that Universal has finally secured those rights, it has tapped Hampton to pen the adaptation, which seems to be the perfect material for the Oscar winning writer whose movies typically lure A-list talent.
Hampton’s screenplays include “Atonement,” “Dangerous Liaisons,” “A Dangerous Method” and more recently Florian Zeller’s “The Father,” which won two Oscars, for best adapted screenplay and actor (for Anthony Hopkins). Hampton has also been celebrated for his plays and musicals that have garnered two Tony Awards, an Olivier Award, and the New York Theatre Critics Circle Award.

As Elon Musk focuses on jamming a few more nails into the X (f.k.a. Twitter) coffin, the Securities and Exchange Commission has gone to the courts to compel him to finally testify as part of an ongoing investigation tied to his acquisition of the social media platform.
On Thursday, Oct. 5, the SEC sued Musk in California federal court after he failed to appear for testimony on Sept. 15 as required by an investigative subpoena served by the agency. As the suit notes, Musk missed the hearing despite agreeing to the Sept.

Grimes is taking legal action against Elon Musk over their children, according to California court records.
Last Friday, Sept. 29, Grimes — real name Claire Boucher — filed a “petition to establish parental relationship,” with Musk named as a respondent. While the specifics of Boucher’s filing are unknown, as the documents are currently unavailable online, such a petition asks a court to establish who the parents of a child are when they are not married.
A lawyer and rep for Boucher did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s requests for comment. Nor did a lawyer for Musk.

Grimes is reportedly suing her ex-partner, Elon Musk, over custody rights to their youngest child.
The 35-year-old musician filed a “petition to establish parental relationship” last Friday (September 29th), according to TMZ.
The existence of the child, who is named Techno Mechanicus (Tau for short), was revealed earlier this month in a new biography on Musk written by Walter Isaacson.
Shortly after the disclosure, Grimes seemed to suggest that Musk was preventing her from seeing the child. “Tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
Grimes and Musk’s two other children are X Æ A-12, a boy born in May 2020, and Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, a daughter born via surrogate in December 2021. Grimes and Musk “semi-separated” in 2021 after three years of dating.

Linda Yaccarino spoke glowingly of Elon Musk, said X will turn a profit in early 2024, and insisted the platform formerly known as Twitter has made major progress in reversing lagging metrics in her 100 days as CEO.
In an interview at Vox Media’s annual Code conference, she pushed back on the assumption that she was hired solely to placate advertisers. She addressed the recent controversy with the Adl and also got into it with Yoel Roth, the former head of safety at Twitter, who spoke at the same event earlier in the day.
Yaccarino, the longtime ad executive and former advertising chief at NBCUniversal, joined Twitter in June and, in fact, began to woo back advertisers who had been spooked by a geyser of negative content that erupted after Musk acquired the social media platform a year ago and took it private. He then renamed it X.

The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator confronted Twitter Aka “X” owner Musk during agent Ari Emanuel’s 2022 wedding, as captured in new biography “Elon Musk,” written by Walter Isaacson.
David and Musk were sitting at the same table during the wedding reception, which led David to ask Musk, “Do you just want to murder kids in schools?” in an excerpt from the book (via The New York Post). The wedding took place four days following the Uvalde, Texas school shooting massacre.
Per the biography, Musk replied, “I’m anti-kid murder,” to which “Seinfeld” creator David asked, “Then how could you vote Republican?”

Walter Isaacson’s new Elon Musk biography reveals an alleged altercation between the Twitter/X owner and comedian Larry David that took place at Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel’s wedding last year in Saint-Tropez, France. “Do you just want to murder kids in schools?” the comedian and Seinfeld co-creator reportedly asked Musk at the Hollywood super-agent’s nuptials to fashion designer Sarah Staudinger in France. “No, no … I’m anti-kid murder,” Musk, the Tesla Motors/X/SpaceX billionaire, is said to have replied.
“Then how could you vote Republican?” David followed up.
David, an Emanuel client who officiated the nuptials between the talent agent and Staudinger, Isaacson wrote, confirmed the confrontation to Isaacson, saying, “His tweets about voting Republican because Democrats were the party of division and hate were sticking in my craw. Business magnate Elon Musk‘s ex-girlfriend, Grimes, said that he sent a photo of her having a C-section to some of the couple’s friends and family, including her father and brothers.
Writer Walter Isaacson, who followed the Tesla CEO for about three years for the latter’s eponymous biography, remembers having a conversation with Grimes about the situation.
Grimes told Isaacson that Musk was clueless about why she was upset with him for sending the picture. Isaacson also wrote in the book that the couple secretly welcomed their third child, Techno Mechanicus. Before the boy’s birth, the timeline of which remains unknown, the pair had two other children together: 1-year-old daughter Exa Dark Sideræl and 3-year-old son, X Æ A-12.

Walter Isaacson’s new biography of Elon Musk includes a number of intriguing vignettes involving everyone from Bill Gates to Google co-founder Sergei Brin. Two in particular involve Endeavor chief Ari Emanuel, who reportedly proposed running Twitter for $100 million, not long after Larry David had chastised Musk to his face after officiating Emanuel’s wedding.
Inherent public curiosity about the Tesla/X/SpaceX billionaire — which pushed a previous biography up the best-seller list in 2015 — has been stoked further by Isaacson’s access and status. The author, formerly the editor of Time and head of CNN, followed Musk for two years and interviewed him and many others in his orbit. He has also written well-regarded biographies of Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein and others.
Isaacson’s pedigree has evidently helped give an early commercial boost to the 688-page Simon & Schuster title, which is already No. 3 on the Amazon charts.
