Sylvester Stallone is certainly one of the biggest names in the history of Hollywood, as he was truly the king when it came to action and drama in the 70s and 80s. After all, his roles in classics such as Rocky, Rambo, and more, solidified his legacy as an all-time great.

With that said, Stallone named just one role that didn’t show him as impaired or dangerous in one of his lesser-known movies. This might also come as a surprise for many fans in general who have followed him over the years.

Filming the Titanic movie had many challenges for director James Cameron, his crew, and the cast. Recreating many heartbreaking scenes ahead of the ship’s sinking posed logistical and creative challenges. However, one scene created the most significant issues of all. Cameron and the crew had one take to get an iconic moment on film before the set was permanently wrecked.

Mattel is making room in the backseat of its Hot Wheels movie for writers Dalton Leeb and Nicholas Jacobson-Larson. The duo is responsible for writing the toys-to-screen adaptation based on the time-honored Mattel franchise, hailing from Warner Bros. and Bad Robot. The toy-making company is exploring several projects based on popular toylines, including American Girl, Barney, Magic 8 Ball, Major Matt Mason, Matchbox, Masters of the Universe, Polly Pocket, Rock’ Em Sock’ Em Robots, Thomas & Friends, Uno, View-Master, and Wish Bone. In addition to the properties mentioned above, Mattel is also developing Christmas Balloon and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Mattel and Warner Bros. are teaming up to produce a live-action feature film for the classic toy race car line, Hot Wheels. First Funko Pops! and now Hot Wheels.
This isn’t the first time a Hot Wheels movie has gone into development. Back in 2003 directors like Simon Crane and McG jumped in the driver’s seat. Then in 2016, Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) was going to direct the movie for Legendary Entertainment. Obviously those past film productions fell apart.
Ynon Kreiz, Mattel’s chairman and CEO, said in a statement:
“We are excited to bring the thrill of a Hot Wheels live-action feature film to the big screen in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures. Mattel Films has great momentum as it continues to execute on our commitment to bring global audiences new ways to experience the brands they love as we transform Mattel into an IP-driven, high-performing toy company.

Action vet Jason Statham is in negotiations to star in the action thriller The Killer’s Game that will be directed by D.J. Caruso (xXx: Return of Xander Cage). THR reports that this move breathes new life into one of Hollywood’s oldest unproduced scripts.
The Killer's Game is based on a novel by Jay Bonansinga; the story follows a veteran assassin who is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and takes a hit out on himself to avoid the pain that is destined to follow. The twist comes when he finds out that he was misdiagnosed and must then fend off the army of former colleagues trying to kill him.
The book was published in 1997, and since then Hollywood has been trying to turn it into a movie. Several great actors including Michael Keaton and Wesley Snipes were attached to star in the project during its early development.

Director Justin Lin spent four years (and three eclectically named sequels) pushing cars around as the temporary steward of the Fast & The Furious franchise, ramping them off of stuff, setting off giant explosions, and (we’re guessing) making “vroom-vroom” noises with his mouth. Now, after a brief detour into the world of spaceships and even bigger booms, Lin is getting back to playing with his cars again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Star Trek Beyond director has signed on to helm the Hot Wheels movie, the one that various Hollywood studios have had in the works for years now.

Justin Lin, the man who rescued the Fast & Furious franchise from the brink of death and turned it into one of the biggest movie series in the world, is getting in the driver's seat for a different car-themed film.
THR reports that Lin, who most recently directed Star Trek Beyond, has signed a deal to develop, produce, and direct Hot Wheels for Legendary Entertainment, a movie based on the beloved toy line. This film has been in the works since 2003, with directors like Simon Crane and McG pulling in and then peeling out in recent years. Lin seems like an obvious natural fit to direct the four-wheeled action here, though the storyline remains to be seen; a new writer will be hired soon to take a crack at a script.

Here’s a question that I think is worth some consideration: is “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” Disney and Lucasfilm‘s “Suicide Squad“? Let’s face it, both films have been through pretty much the same thing, but one has received (so far) a pass from too much scrutiny, thanks for a carefully orchestrated PR counter-attack. But none of that changes the fact that ‘Rogue One’ has gone through extensive reshoots that are more than just your standard pick-ups (sorry, you don’t hire two additional directors — Tony Gilroy (who is also doing rewrite work) and Simon Crane — to get that done) and the picture hasn’t been able to fully swat away rumors that executives were concerned about director Gareth Edwards‘ “dark” movie, and were looking for something with more of the four-quadrant friendly vibe of every other “Star Wars” movie.

A brand new featurette has been released for Jason Bourne, and it takes us behind the scenes of the movie’s huge chase sequence which was shot on location on the Las Vegas strip. It features Matt Damon squaring off with Vincent Cassel’s villainous character, and includes comments from both them and second unit director Simon Crane.
The Jason Bourne cast is made up of names like Alicia Vikander, Scott Shepherd, Tommy Lee Jones and Julia Stiles, so there are a lot of reasons to be excited for the movie beyond just this sure to be memorable action sequence. Still, based on past experience, it’s pretty much a guarantee that it will end up being the biggest talking point when all is said and done.
Despite being rumoured for years, it seemed like another instalment of the franchise revolving around the character it’s named after was never going to happen.

Depending upon whom you believe, reshoots on "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" are either fairly minimal and mostly just about making it better, or they're extensive and part of some serious retooling. All seem to indicate the studio is keen on making something that's tonally more akin to the main "Star Wars" series and more familiar than the first cut screened for executives - one which is rumored to be more of a dark war movie than people might expect.

Strangely dropping a press release on a historic day where the nation's attention is elsewhere, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed their annual list of new member invitees this morning. For those who criticize the makeup of the Academy there was some good news and the stark realization the organization still has a long way to go. The Academy has spent the last eight to 10 years attempting to diversify its membership and this year's class mostly reflects that. There are significantly more invitees of Asian and African-American descent, but the male to female disparity is still depressing. Out of the 25 potential new members of the Actor's Branch only seven are women. And, no, there isn't really an acceptable way for the Academy to spin that sad fact. Additionally, It's important to realize the 322 people noted in the release have only been invited to join Hollywood's most exclusive club.

Edge of Tomorrow, Tom Cruise's summer sci-fi movie about a reluctant soldier who's cursed with the gift of reliving the same day that he's killed by aliens over and over again—until he navigates through battle safely—wasn't the blockbuster that it might have been. It inched past $100 million in the U.S. and grossed a total of $369 million, but critics heaped praise on Cruise, whose Major William Cage reminded some of A Few Good Men's lackadaisical Daniel Kaffee, and Emily Blunt, who played a heroic supersoldier with a sixth sense for slaughtering the spidery aliens that invaded Earth.

A project that's been in Limbo since it was first announced in 2010, is till very much alive apparently. I'd left it for dead after following the revolving door of directors and screenwriters hopping on and off this train, over a year after the initial news of its launch. “Kane and Lynch” is a 2007 videogame that was supposed to be a movie about, oh, two or so years ago, with Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx set to star, and Simon Crane set to direct. That, er, didn’t quite work out. But you can still see the mock up poster the producers put out. It was really close to happening … until it wasn’t happening anymore. Good thing hiring a starving artist to slap together a poster is cheap, huh? Flash-forward to 2013, and Gerard Butler is now said to be in talks for the role of Kane, while Nu Image/Millennium Films would very much like Vin Diesel to play Lynch. Based on the game of the same name by Io Interactive and Eidos Interactive, “Kane and Lynch” would find Butler playing Kane, “a death row inmate who, along with a schizophrenic killer named Lynch, is sprung from prison to retrieve a stolen fortune.

Once a Bruce Willis/Jamie Foxx project, the Kane & Lynch videogame adaptation is now set to star Gerard Butler, and possibly Vin Diesel
Back when the first Kane & Lynch videogame was released, most observers were of the opinion that it had been put together with one eye on a potential movie spin-off. Boasting plenty of cinematic sequences, along with two strong lead characters, the project was once upon a time set to star Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx. They even put out a promo poster for it, here:
But then things went quiet.
However, The Hollywood Reporter is now saying that Nu Image/Millennium Films has brought Kane & Lynch back to life, and this time, Gerard Butler is in talks to take the role of death row inmate Kane. Vin Diesel, meanwhile, has been offered the role of Lynch, a schizophrenic killer (that's Lynch,...

Back in 2010, Simon Crane was set to direct Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx in a big screen version of the "Kane and Lynch" video game. The project was eventually delayed and then completely fell apart. Now comes word that Gerard Butler is in talks to play Kane, while Vin Diesel has been offered the role of Lynch. F. Gary Gray, who directed Butler in "Law Abiding Citizen," is on board to direct "Kane and Lynch." Plot: Kane (Butler) is a mercenary. Lynch (Diesel) is a schizophrenic with no past. They meet while being transported to Death Row. When they are attacked and kidnapped by Kane's former team, the ill-matched duo is forced to retrieve a stolen microchip that may hold the key to Lynch's true identity.

Kane & Lynch is one of those long-gestating projects that has had so many stops and starts that you start to wonder if it already came out and you just missed it. Based on the videogame from Io Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive. The film was originally set up in 2008 with Bruce Willis as Kane and stunt coordinator turned director Simon Crane was set to direct. In 2010, Jamie Foxx was set to join the cast as Lynch and it seemed like the film was a go from there, with posters...

According to The Hollywood Reporter , Gerard Butler is in talks to star as Kane in the big screen adaptation of the video game Kane & Lynch . Should the deal close, it would reunite him with Law Abiding Citizen director F. Gary Gray. The site also reports that an offer has been sent out to Vin Diesel to play Lynch in the film, but it is too early to determine if he will take it. The property was previously headed for a feature adaptation directed by Simon Crane with Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx in the Kane and Lynch roles, but that version never went ahead. Based on the Eidos Entertainment video game, the plot follows Adam "Kane" Marcus, a mercenary who makes an unlikely alliance with a schizophrenic killer named James Lynch. The duo is forced on a...

After what The Hollywood Reporter describes as months of negotiations, Simon Crane has signed on to direct a "Hot Wheels" movie based on the Mattel line of die-cast toy cars.
Crane beat out "28 Weeks Later" director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo in the latest attempt at jump-starting the nascent "Fast & the Furious" competitor, after previous attempts to bring the project at other other studios (Columbia, Warner Bros.) and other directors (McG) stalled out.
"Hot Wheels" joins "Gran Turismo" and the upcoming Aaron Paul vehicle "Need For Speed" as attempts to catch up to Universal's seemingly unstoppable "Fast" franchise. Across six movies, they've earned nearly a billion dollars for the studio since Vin Diesel and Paul Walker first glowered at each other across the hood of a muscle car with 2001's "Fast and the Furious."
If you thought a "Hot Wheels" movie would offer some good, family fun, you've got another think coming: The script,...

After leaving its Hot Wheels movie lying around for nearly a decade—resisting every exhortation to just put it away, damn it, your father almost broke his neck, by protesting, “But McG said he was gonna play with it!”—Mattel and Legendary have finally found someone to come and smash their toy car property together. It’s Simon Crane, a second-unit director who’s served on films like Troy, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Salt, World War Z, and Maleficent, and will be making his first transition from working seemingly exclusively with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to guiding an entirely different ...

After working as a stunt coordinator and being considered one of the best second unit directors in town, Simon Crane is finally making his feature directorial debut with Legendary Entertainment's adaptation of Mattel's miniature car toyline Hot Wheels. The project has been developing since 2011, and still seems like one of those terrible established intellectual property deals with a studio trying to make a cash grab with a recognizable brand name. Directors like McG and writers like Cormac Wibberly (National Treasure) and John Gatins (Real Steel) tried to crack it, but to no avail. So it's no surprise that it will mark Crane's debut. That's not to say Crane isn't a talented man behind the camera. After all, the trade says he's "one the premier second-unit directors in the business" working on films like World War Z, Salt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Troy (was he also around to film Brad Pitt being born?...

Simon Crane has been named as director on Legendary Pictures' Hot Wheels movie.
The studio has appointed writer Paul Attanasio to redraft the screenplay for the project based on the classic toy line from Mattel.
Iron Man co-writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway penned the original script, which is said to have attracted Crane to the venture.
Crane has previously worked as a second-unit director on some high-profile films, such as World War Z and the forthcoming Edge of Tomorrow.
Attanasio is an Oscar-nominated screenwriter, whose scripts include Quiz Show, Donnie Brasco and The Sum of All Fears.
He is also credited as executive producer and co-creator on the Us TV show House.

Just a few days ago when Katey Rich at Cinemablend wrote about the end of Stretch Armstrong‘s development representing a bigger end to the small fad of toy movies, it felt gut-level right. That may have been wishful thinking. Obviously Transformers is still going strong, and now Variety reports that Legendary is pushing ahead with a movie based on Hot Wheels. Granted, that means the movie is essentially based on “automobiles,” which is the Brick Tamland method of film production. However, there are two reasons to be hopeful for what the tiny little cars can produce. The first is Paul Attanasio, who wrote Donnie Brasco, The Sum of All Fears and a handful of other pulpy genre goodies. He’s taking over on script duty with a draft from Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) in hand. The second is Simon Crane, a veteran director who has done a ridiculous amount of second unit duty...

Legendary Pictures just signed Simon Crane to direct its upcoming "Hot Wheels" movie, based on the popular Mattel toy line. Paul Attanasio (Quiz Show, The Good German) is on board to do a rewrite of the script. The story centers on a washed-up Illinois State Trooper who, after a dangerous military device falls into the hands of a criminal, fights the man his father once put behind bars. "Hot Wheels" has been in development for years with such directors as McG (Terminator Salvation) and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), and writers Cormac Wibberly (National Treasure) and John Gatins (Flight). The movie will be Crane's directorial debut, but he's considered one of the best second-unit directors, having worked on such films as "World War Z," "Men in Black 3," "Salt" and "X-Men: The Last Stand."...

Mattel's toy car franchise is to follow He-Man and Barbie into cinemas, with film directed by Simon Crane
Wind it up and watch it go – a film based on the Hot Wheels toy cars is lining up on the starting grid, according to Variety.
Directed by first-timer Simon Crane, it's thought that the Hot Wheels film will rev up the same audience who turned the Fast and Furious franchise into a petrol-headed money-churner. Hot Wheels toys are aimed at a markedly younger age group. They exist in an imaginary world of brightly coloured racing cars that do loop-the-loops through rollercoaster tracks. No casting or plot details have been released as yet, so no word on whether the film will follow the same twists and turns.
The film adaptation of the Hot Wheels universe will be produced by toy manufacturer Mattel's in-house studio, Playtime Productions. The studio is responsible for lifting...

After giving it much consideration and thought, Legendary has decided that Simon Craig will direct Hot Wheels, based on the Mattel toy line.
Hot Wheels has been in development for quite some time. At some point, McG was attached to direct, with a script by writers like Cormac Wibberly (National Treasure) and John Gatins (Flight). Eventually the project went to Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), and is now getting a rewrite by Paul Attanasio (Quiz Show, The Good German).

Joe Roth, Palak Patel, and Sam Mercer of Roth Films are producing the project along with Legendary.

June 20, 2011 - Mattel, Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures are teaming up to make a Hot Wheels movie...but they're being clear: it's Not for kids.
What? Why? Well:
1. Mattel already put their toe in the water with Speed Racer. That was intended to be the Hot Wheel-movie but it flopped harder than a toy car in a loop-de-loop that didn't gather enough initial speed.
2. Mattel gnashes its teeth at the big business the PG-13 The Fast and the Furious movies do: in their eyes, That should be Them. That's why filmmakers say Fast and Furious is the model for the Hot Wheels movie.

The "movies based on toys" industry took a big hit earlier this week when it was announced that plans to make a movie about Stretch Armstrong had been cancelled, but today the future looks a little bit brighter (and you can take that as either good news or bad news). Legendary Pictures has spent the last couple years trying to get a film off the ground based on tiny metal toy cars known as Hot Wheels, and now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, they've found a filmmaker to make it. Following a long period of negotiation it's been announced that Simon Crane, one of the best known second unit directors in the business, has been hired to helm the project. Legendary may be the home of the Hot Wheels movie now, but the idea of a movie based on the property has been bouncing around for a long time. At...

Sometimes we wonder if directors pick projects based on toy lines just so they can get their hands on lots of fun things to play with (or, you know, for their kids.) But with veteran stunt co-ordinator and second unit director Simon Crane, we get the idea he’s chased Hot Wheels down because it’ll give him plenty of chances to indulge what he does best while also tackling a likely first gig as director. The Hot Wheels project has had a troubled time motoring towards the screen, with numerous studios, writers and directors (including McG and John Gatins) trying to make it work, but ultimately putting the idea back in the toy chest. Now Legendary has the rights, and with Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway apparently cracking the script – which is now getting a polish from The Good German's Paul Attanasio – the cars could...

Simon Crane! Ok, you're probably saying, "Who is Simon Crane?" Crane has served as a second-unit director on a number of big-budget Hollywood movies including World War Z, Men in Black 3, Quantum of Solace and upcoming blockbusters Maleficent and Edge of Tomorrow. Deadline reports that Crane has been in the mix for the directing job on this film for quite some time as Legendary Pictures transitioned partnerships from Warner Bros. to Universal. The film is being written by Paul Attanasio, who scripted critic and audience favorites like Donnie Brasco, Quiz Show and The Sum of All Fears. There is no release date attached to the Hot Wheels movie, an adaptation of the long-running popular Mattel toy line. Universal certainly has a favorable track record with...

Breaking: Legendary Pictures has made a deal with accomplished second unit director Simon Crane to direct Hot Wheels. The financier/producer has also set Paul Attanasio to rewrite the script. The live action film is based on the venerable Mattel toy line and since Legendary moved from Warner Bros to Universal, the latter studio gets first crack at what could be a franchise vehicle in Hot Wheels. Attanasio will be rewriting the draft by Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Joe Roth, Palak Patel and Sam Mercer of Roth Films are producing with Legendary, whose Alex Garcia is overseeing. Crane, repped by CAA and Media Talent Group’s Geyer Kosinski, has been in the mix for this job since late summer, and has been an active second unit director whose recent credits include World War Z and the upcoming Doug Liman-directed Tom Cruise-starrer Edge Of Tomorrow.

Simon Crane is set to direct the bigscreen adaptation of Hot Wheels based on the Mattel toys, which Legendary acquired the film rights to in 2011, reports Variety. Other than the Fast & Furious franchise success, Disney's Need for Speed with Aaron Paul starring is opening March 14th, 2014, also looking for its share of adrenalin rush seeking car fanatics. True, both Need for Speed and Hot Wheels are popular properties with their own fanbase, however, how much on screen speed can audiences actually stomach? There was 2008's Emile Hirch starrer Speed Racer, and that one had Andy and Lana Wachowski of the Matrix trilogy on board, so both of the abovementioned films will need something quite special to succeed. Paul Attanasio is scripting, doing a rewrite from the draft by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.
