The Marvel Cinematic Universe is resurrecting Stan Lee thanks to a new licensing deal — and fans are voicing their criticisms.
On May 19, Marvel announced a 20-year deal with Stan Lee Universe, a venture between Genius Brands International and Pow! Entertainment, to license the name and likeness of the late Marvel Comics editor-in-chief for use in future feature films and television productions, as well as Disney theme parks, “experiences,” and merchandise under a “broad deal” with his estate.
Lee died in November 2018 at age 95, and fans are calling for the memory of the beloved writer and editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics to be laid to rest.
Vulture critic Alison Willmore compared the deal to a “Weekend at Bernie’s” scheme, and Red Letter Media co-founder Jay Bauman slammed the deal, writing, “Stan Lee was exploited for the last few years of his life and now he can’t even rest in peace.

Exclusive: Wanted filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov and his production banner Bazelevs are in development on a new cinematic universe based on the unexploited horror works by Stan Lee.
Bazelevs will team with Zq Entertainment, a production company belonging to CAA vet and producer Ara Keshishian, on Sawbones and Carnival of Killers, both of which show a darker side of Lee’s world. Stan Lee’s Pow! Entertainment, the company the comic book architect co-founded post-Marvel, will serve as EPs on the projects.
Sawbones follows a frail 12-year old, Alex Covin, who reads a mysterious comic book and is transported into the comic’s terrifying world: a haunted Juvenile Detention Center overrun by demonic forces led by Sawbones, a homicidal entity who preys upon the troubled inmates. Has Alex gone insane? Or is this nightmarish world his new reality? If he is to escape, Alex must find a way to defeat Sawbones,...

The late Stan Lee’s Pow! Entertainment is getting Restless. The company is teaming with Starlings Television and Atalaya Productions to develop a TV series about a Native American homicide detective.
Lee created the character, begins to inherit the mystical powers of his American Indian ancestors after his father’s death. Oscar winner Wes Studi will play the protagonist’s grandfather.
Grimm alum David Greenwalt is set as showrunner and will write the series with James Dalessandro (1906). Chris Philip, Pow! Entertainment president Gill Champion, Giovanni Orlando, Larry Jacobson and Karine Martin are the executive producers.
Restless centers on homicide detective Adam Chaco. Stan Lee has died at the age of 95 but his last few months of life were filled with turmoil.
While the co-creator of comic book icons like Spider-Man, Iron Man Thor and the X-Men catapulted Lee to fame and prestige, all was not easygoing for the businessman in the months leading up to his death.

Another big piece of news regarding Stan Lee has dropped. The Marvel legend has filed a billion-dollar lawsuit against his old company Pow! Entertainment. He claims that his business partners took advantage of his declining eyesight so that they could swindle him.
Lee launched Pow! Entertainment in 2001 and sold it last year to a company in Hong Kong called Camsing International Holding. According to the suit, "Lee has macular degeneration — which causes deteriorating eyesight. This is the second lawsuit that Lee has filed recently. The first was against his former publicist and business manager Jerardo Olivarez. Stan Lee has filed a billion-dollar lawsuit against Pow! Entertainment, alleging that unscrupulous business partners took advantage of his declining eyesight in order to swindle him.
Lee founded Pow! in 2001, and sold it last year to Camsing International Holding, a Hong Kong company. According to the suit, Lee has macular degeneration — which causes deteriorating eyesight. The suit alleges that Pow! took advantage of his condition to get him to sign away an exclusive right to use his name to the Chinese company.
The filing follows a similar suit brought last month against Jerardo Olivarez, a former publicist and business manager to Lee. The suit accused Olivarez of draining Lee’s accounts of $1.4 million and using his blood to create a commemorative stamp without Lee’s consent.
The new suit also mentions Olivarez, though he is not named as a defendant. The suit claims that Olivarez and two other men, Shane Duffy and Gill Champion,...

With The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 now out in theaters, closing the book on Lionsgate’s Ya juggernaut for the time being, the studio is left with a sizeable gap to fill as we round the corner to 2016, particularly after churning out four entries into The Hunger Games series in as many years.
And though we fully expect the studio to circle back to the dystopian landscape of Panem, there’s another futuristic milieu that has cropped up on Lionsgate’s radar: Romeo and Juliet: The War. Partnering with 1821 Media and Stan Lee’s Pow! Entertainment, the project is a decidedly different take on the Shakespearean classic, thrusting the lovestruck pair into a dark and distant future. Core elements still remain, of course, with Romeo and Juliet hailing from different sides of two warring factions, putting their lives at risk as they throw caution to the wind to be with one another.
