Exclusive: Sundance breakout Tyler Ross, star of indie Milkshake, and up-and-comer Izabela Vidovic have been cast as two of the four leads in Zombieland, Amazon Studios’ comedy pilot based on the hit 2009 movie. The project, produced by Sony TV, is a continuation of the adventures of Tallahassee, Columbus (Ross), Wichita, and her younger sister Little Rock (Vidovic) — four humans who band together to survive the zombie apocalypse. In the movie, the “nerdy handsome” Columbus, who also narrates the story, was played by Jesse Eisenberg; Little Rock, a worldly girl hardened by adversity, was portrayed by Abigail Breslin. Original Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the pilot and executive produce with the movie’s producer, Gavin Polone. Ross, repped by Cesd and New Wave Entertainment, plays the lead in Milkshake, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and will be released in the summer. He also drew praise for...

Exclusive: Rob Corddry’s single-camera comedy pilot Little In Common is no longer in contention at Fox. The network has passed on the project, about three families with different views on child rearing, which starred Rob Corddry, Heather Graham, Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union and Alana Ubach. The decision was made after Fox received the retooled Little In Common pilot. In lieu of a series pickup, Fox in May ordered a second pilot and some changes. Paula Marshall was recast with Graham and another character was phased out. But I hear that, while they liked the cast, Fox brass were underwhelmed with the new pilot, which also didn’t test well. Little In Common was one of two pilots from last season that Fox left in contention in May. The other, Family Album, died in August because of creative differences over its its direction. Word is Fox still plans to...

Heather Graham is joining Rob Corddry in the Fox comedy pilot "Little in Common." An earlier version of the pilot was already produced, but not picked up for series by Fox. In the new pilot, Graham will replace Paula Marshall ("Gary Unmarried") in the role of Corddry's wife, according to Deadline.com. The two play a married couple who move from California to Texas and find themselves surrounded by some kooky neighbors, including an eccentric single mother played by Alanna Ubach and a sports-obsessed couple played by Gabrielle Union and Kevin Hart. "Little in Common" comes from creator Rob Thomas ("Veronica Mars,"...

Heather Graham has signed on to star alongside Rob Corddry in Fox’s new comedy pilot ‘Little In Common,’ Deadline is reporting. Graham replaces Paula Marshall, who appeared in the original pilot, in the single-camera comedy series, which will be produced by Rob Thomas and Wbtv. The news of the actress’ hiring comes after she had a recurring role on ‘Scrubs’ in 2005, and her 2006 sitcom ‘Emily’s Reasons Why Not’ was canceled by ABC after only one episode. ‘Little In Common’ follows the Wellers, played by Corddry and Graham, who move from California to Texas. They discover the move isn’t as easy as expected, as their Latina single mother neighbor,...

Heather Graham has been tapped to star opposite Rob Corddry in Fox’s comedy pilot Little In Common.
The single-camera project, from Veronica Mars and Party Down vet Rob Thomas, centers on the Wellers (Corddry, Graham), who move from California to Texas, but find that their adjustment won’t be quite that easy considering their Latina single mother neighbor (played by Alana Ubach) has a radically different approach to child-rearing than they do. Meanwhile, their other new neighborhood acquaintances, the African American Burlesons (Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union), take sports way too seriously.

This is a rare series gig for Graham, who has been focused primarily on features. She previously toplined the short-lived ABC comedy Emily’s Reasons Why Not and recurred on Scrubs. Little In Common garnered solid buzz during pilot screenings.

Exclusive: After testing the TV waters last season, feature producer Dan Lin is putting down small-screen roots, forming a television division of his company Lin Pictures and signing an overall deal with Warner Bros Television. Veteran TV development executive/producer Jennifer Gwartz has been tapped to run the new division, which is looking to develop drama and comedy projects with aspirational, uplifting stories that are often associated with Lin-produced features. Additionally, Gwartz, who also has feature background having worked on such movies as Scream, Copland, Lethal Weapon 4 and The Matrix, will work closely Lin's feature development team. Last season was Lin's first in television. Through a first-look deal with Warner Bros TV, an extension to his his Warner Bros production deal on the feature side, he sold three projects: Poe, written by Chris Hollier, and Teach, written by Rina Mimoun, to ABC; and Mavericks, written by Gary Scott Thompson,...

June 30 marked the deadline for TV studios to pick up the options on the casts of broadcast pilots and series whose fate was still in limbo. Good news for fans of Fox's midseason comedy Breaking In: The options on the series' actors have been picked up until Nov. 15. And, in a rare move, I hear the network, Fox, has pitched in, splitting the cost of the option extension with producing studio Sony Pictures TV. Fox's decision to cancel the Christian Slater-starring comedy after a brief midseason run was one of the biggest surprises this past upfront season. Among the pilots left in contention for midseason, Fox's comedies Little In Common and Family Album remain in the running for Fox's two-hour, four-show midseason Tuesday comedy block. But both projects will undergo some tweaking as reflected in their producing studios' decision to pick up only parts of their casts. In...

In choosing its comedies for the 2011-2012 season, Fox didn't venture too far from the familiar. The network made a clear effort to stick to what's been working for them thus far, choosing shows with reliable themes and actors with proven staying power.
Zap2it was on the scene at the 2011 Upfront Presentation in New York on May 16 to get a first look at the new comedy line-up. Here are our first impressions.
"I Hate My Teenage Daughter"
This season, Fox met success with "Raising Hope," a comedy about hilariously bad parenting -- and they're sticking to it with "I Hate My Teenage Daughter." "That's a title, not a statement," jokes Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly. Don't worry... the show looks to be much funnier than he is. For the coveted post-"X-Factor" Wednesday spot, Reilly says that they sought out a sitcom with a "relatable hook, with a strong female appeal at its core,...

Update 9 Pm: A Locke & Key limited series/miniseries was a stretch, and it seems that it is not happening. The show is now heading to the death pile. And yes, comedy Outnumbered is dead too. Surprisingly, multi-family comedy Little In Common starring Rob Corddry and Kevin Hart, which had stayed largely under the radar, is still very much in the mix. Update 8 Pm: With two high-profile drama pilots, the Ethan Hawke starrer Exit Strategy and Locke & Key, conspicuously missing from the list of series pickups or rejects, speculation started swirling as to their fate. I hear both are still in play. Word is Exit Strategy may be held for retooling. I hear Fox brass felt the pilot had a lot of action and not too much character in it, so they had been looking to shift the focus on the show. As for Locke & Key, there is a rumor that...

Following up on last week’s announcement that Kevin Hart will star opposite Rob Corddry in a pilot for a new Fox comedy series titled, Little in Common, created by Rob Thomas, that will center on 3 families and their kids’ little league sports teams: the Caucasian, and “oh-so-proper” Wellers family (played by Corddry and Paula Marshall) who move from San Jose, CA, to Austin, TX, but find that their adjustment won’t be quite that easy, “considering that their Latino neighbors, the Pachecos, have a radically different approach to child-rearing than they do;” and then there’re their other new neighborhoods, the African American Burlesons, who are serious about their sports!
As previously noted, Kevin Hart will play one half of the Burlesons – Ty Burleson, a former pro-athlete, but now a sports writer-turned-house husband who coaches a little league baseball team. Today brings news that Gabrielle Union will co-star as...
