Do we really want to discover life on Mars?
“The Last Days on Mars” is a zombie-like horror movie with the red planet as its setting. A group of astronauts at a space station start to be victims of a terrifying alien specimen that was collected. And the survivors must seek out a way off the planet before it’s too late.
The movie stars Live Schreiber, Elias Koteas, Romola Garai and Olivian Williams.
Latino-Review had an exclusive telephone interview last month with director Ruairi Robinson. We discussed the movie cast, the short story and creating the Mars setting for this complex sci-fi film.
“The Last Days on Mars” is currently in select theaters and available on VOD.

In keeping with the themed nights at this year’s festival, last night was Sci-Fi night at Toronto After Dark. I was looking forward to the films because I had heard a lot of buzz around them, and for the most part, they delivered.
I knew that the first screening of the night was going to be a busy one, because the passholders line and the ticket holders line were both jam-packed with people, and folks were standing in the Rush line as well. That means that the show was either sold out, or it was going to be close. In this case, it was the former, so it was a packed house when Festival Director Adam Lopez took the stage to say a few words. As always, his enthusiasm is contagious, and he not only got people excited about Last Days On Mars (which they were already there to...

Magnet Releasing has debut the first poster and trailer for the upcoming science fiction film, The Last Days of Mars. Come inside to check them both out and see why you should be excited.
Honestly, before I even watched the trailer for the film, I was keenly interested in this film because it's directed by Ruairi Robinson. While he's not a household name, he's a filmmaker to be on the lookout for. You may remember him from that incredible sci-fi short film, BlinkyTM, which remains one of my favorite shorts ever. So I'm hoping this movie helps him to burst out into the big time and get the opportunities he deserves. Check out the trailer for his latest film which will be on iTunes/On Demand October 31, 2013 and in theaters December 6, 2013.

It’s not often that a director will amass a fanbase before he’s ever even helmed a feature, but that’s exactly what Ruairi Robinson managed to do, thanks to the buzz that surrounded his short films like The Silent City and BlinkyTM. Movie pundits have been predicting for years now that Robinson is a future name in the world of genre films, and now he’s getting his chance to prove them right, because his first feature, The Last Days on Mars, is ready to be released in the UK on September 19, and has put together a trailer to promote the occasion. In addition to watching it because of the buzz surrounding Robinson, you’re also going to want to give this trailer a chance if you enjoy biology-based horror movies, or thrillers in space, or when the two come together in something like Alien. And you’re going to want to check it out...

The space-based thriller, from the script by Clive Dawson, will deal with an astronaut crew based on Mars whose last day on the planet becomes somewhat nightmarish. “Akira” may finally be moving forward with a director again. Variety is reporting has signed Spanish-director Jaume Collet-Serra to the helm of the live-action adaptation of “Akira.” Collet-Serra has directed several films including “Orphan,” “Goal II: Living the Dream,” “House of Wax” and this year’s “Unknown.” According to Variety, the director has “a reputation for delivering successful films on time and on budget." The adapted film version will be an action film in New Manhattan rather than post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo. The storyline revolves around Kaneda saving his best friend from a medical experiment that threatens to unleash destructive powers. Directors Ruairi Robinson (“BlinkyTM,” “The Silent City”) and Albert Hughes (“The Book of Eli,” “From Hell”) were previously attached to the project. In addition, Variety is reporting scriptwriter Steve Kloves (“Harry Potter” film franchise) is handling the latest draft for the film. Gary Whitta (“The Book of Eli”), Albert Torres (“Henry Poole Is Here...

You might remember last year a short teaser trailer that showed the kid from Where the Wild Things Are playing with the robot above. I was under the impression that this film was going to be a feature length film, after seeing it, I’m glad it wasn’t. BlinkyTM is a short film, much like director Ruairi Robinson’s previous films – one of which was nominated for an Academy Award. The good news is that you don’t have to wait to see this short film or see it a film festival, you can now see it online, in its entirety. Click beyond the break.
Enjoy!

The BlinkyTM Short Film has been released. Ruairi Robinson‘s BlinkTM (2010) stars Max Records, Skoti Collins, James Nardini, and Jenni Fontana. BlinkyTM‘s plot synopsis: “its the story of a boy whose newly bought robot best friend might not be 100% safe.” This short film is high-end, real high-end. I wish to God this was a feature length horror film. Its that good. Now that is how you build up to a satisfying horror ending. The parents at each others throats, on the brink of getting a divorce, devoid of caring whether their son hears their arguments or not was a very effective backdrop for this short film. It grounded the film in reality and made what happens with the boy, his angry, more realistic.
“Ready or not here I come.” Prophetic words. The setup with the feedback loop and what the machine is ordered to do by its human owner were well orchestrated.

For those who've seen Ruairi Robinson's awesome post apocalyptic short Silent City you're in for a little treat.. he just dropped me a line to let me know his latest short, BlinkyTM which we reported on all the way back in 2009, is now online in its entirety.
Ruairi is also currently working on a scifi feature called The Animators which tells the story of a group of astronaut explorers who succumb one by one to a mysterious and terrifying force. Finally, a feature!

I've mentioned it before, but I'm convinced that my generation's irrational fear of clowns stems back to Poltergeist, and the absolute terror of the clowns in that film, especially if you were young (when I revisited the movie a couple of years back, I realized how family-friendly it was, and then I jumped into a time machine, went back to 1984 and kicked my 9-year-old ass for being a whiny little pansy).
Anyway, I don't know a lot about Blinky, from director Ruairi Robinson, except that it used to be called Bad Robot and that it stars Max Records of Where the Wild Things Are fame. I do know, however, that the robot in the teaser trailer gives me the same uneasy feeling I had seeing that clown in Poltergeist. It's fucking creepy, people. It makes me feel funny in my belly button.

Academy Award nominated director Ruairi Robinson has debuted a new trailer for his new indie film Blinky. A little over a year ago a short concept teaser trailer was released only the film was titled Bad Robot. The new sci-fi horror indie film stars Max Records who played Max in the film Where the Wild Things Are. Apparently the boy wants a Blinky toy for Christmas and it's a guess that things start going wrong and people get killed since Bloody Disgusting is labeling the film a "futuristic Child's Play." Robinson, who at one time was attached to the live action Akira film, was nominated for a best animated short Oscar in 2001 for a sci-fi comedy called Fifty Percent Grey. He also wrote and directed a sci-fi short titled The Silent City. Here is the short concept teaser trailer titled...

A little over a year ago, we posted a teaser for a bizarre short called "Bad Robot," which is made by Ruairi Robinson, who is best known for the Cillian Murphy-starring "The Silent City" post-apocalyptic short. The teaser showed a creepy R2D2-looking robot dancing around, and today we have a real teaser trailer showing that same robot with Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are). Judging by the tone, the robotic friend will clearly go nuts, similar to Chucky in "Child's Play." We still know very little about the project, but it is now called "Blinky" and looks to be a feature film. The tagline states: "Soon every house will have a robot helper. Don't worry, your kids are perfectly safe." Check out the teaser below. Teaser: If you cannot see the player, click here.

Bloody-Disgusting posted the teaser trailer for Blinky™ earlier today, and it intrigued me enough to post it here.
Written and directed by Ruairi Robinson, Blinky™, previously titled Bad Robot, stars Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are), Jenni Fontana (TV’s Dollhouse) and James Nardini (TV’s Grey’s Anatomy).
Blinky™ tells the story of a boy (Records) and his robot friend.

Whoa - another surprisingly great teaser to check out. SlashFilm posted a trailer today, originally found by Bloody-Disgusting, for an indie film called Blinky™. Yes, that ™ is actually a part of the official title, but that's hard to add everywhere, so we're just going to call it Blinky. The film was originally titled Bad Robot, but had to change for obvious reasons, and stars Where the Wild Things Are's young Max Records. It's a "story of a boy and his robot," but as you can tell by watching this fantastic teaser, it looks like his metallic friend might be going corrupt fairly soon. I love how creepily this trailer hints at its descent into madness. Watch an early teaser trailer for Ruairi Robinson's Blinky™: Blinky™ is the creation of Irish filmmaker Ruairi Robinson, an up-and-coming director with a few shorts in his filmography, including the Oscar nominated Fifty Percent Grey.

Earlier this year Jonah Hill agreed to star in The Sitter, a comedy in which Hill will play a college dropout who gets into more than he bargained for (like drug deals and car chases) when he agrees to babaysit the children of a family friend. Now J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are) and new child actor Kevin Hernandez have all signed on. The Wrap reports on the casting, saying that Records, Hernandez and Landry Bender will play the kids, while Smoove will play one of the drug dealers who get caught up in the film's events. This will be one of the first projects for Max Records since the release of Where the Wild Things Are; I loved the young actor in that film, so I'll be very interested to see his work here. (He's also apparently in Ruairi Robinson's BlinkyTM, about...

Ruairi Robinson has made a couple of short films over the years (including one which was nominated for an Oscar) but it was his last film that finally openend the door for a full length feature. The Silent City isn't exactly brilliant but I do love the basic idea and the fact that that Robinson isn't afraid to tease the audience. Nothing really happens and then something does happen but before we find out the outcome, the film ends. Gutsy move to leave the story unfinished like that, especially when you've only been telling that bit of story for 6 minutes.
The other two things that stand out about Robinson's short film is the humour and the effects. Keep in mind this dates back a few years but it's pretty impressive when yo consider how far the techonology has come in four years; I'm hopeful that this is a small indication...

You might know the name Ruairi Robinson; if you don't I'm betting you will very soon. Robinson made the cool short film The Silent City (which I've embedded below) and was the guy tapped to direct the live-action Akira. I'm not sure whether he's still attached to that film, which was recently said to be not as dead as once reported. Regardless, Robinson is now working to finish a film called Bad Robot, and the teaser concept video now floating around the interwebs suggests it could be a lot of fun. Check it out after the break. Quiet Earth has this clip for Bad Robot, but sadly not a lot of additional information. There's a tagline ("Soon every house will have a robot helper. Sadly the following is for a short film only, but one with absolutely kick ass potential for a dark comedy or downright sci-fi/horror feature film! Irish writer/director Ruairi Robinson created Bad Robot, apparently about a little domestic apparel who judging from the teaser shouldn't have been taken out of the box. I love it! From Ruairi Robinson, the man behind the excellent post apocalyptic short Silent City which starred Cillian Murphy, is back with another film titled Bad Robot which is billed as being a comedic scifi. However, based on the poster, I'm wondering if this is a horror comedy, and between the IMDb entry and the other pages I've found on this, I can't tell whether it's a short film or a feature. Image Now Films, the Irish production company behind Silent City is also involved. I'm currently attempting to get in touch with the production folks behind this project, so hopefully we'll have more info available shortly.
