Actor Jisshu Sengupta has worked in some of the most prestigious films- Bose: The Forgotten Hero, The Last Lear, Barfi! and Mardani, to name a few. And we are not even talking about his Bengali films like Chokher Bali, Naukadoobi etc.
Jisshu will next be seen in Shoojit Sircar's Piku, once again featuring Amitabh Bachchan (like in The Last Lear), along with Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone. Giving reason for being so selective, Jisshu says, "Yeah you are right. I have been lucky to work with quality directors like Shyam Benegal, (late) Rituporno Ghosh, Shoojit Sircar, Aparna Sen etc. Actually I believe in quality work and as I have been getting good projects regularly I did not venture much elsewhere. But that does not mean that I will not work in big commercial ventures. You know I was also offered Kahaani but unfortunately I could not do it"

The passing of Rituparno Ghosh in 2013 left Indian cinema bereft of one of its finest craftsmen.
The Kolkata-born writer, director, activist and literary figure – just 49 years of age at the time of his untimely death – was widely recognized as the spiritual successor to the legendary Satyajit Ray.
Now the life and work of this creative genius is set to be celebrated at the 16th annual Tongues on Fire London Asian Film Festival (Laff) to be held in June across the British capital: a city which held particular affection for Ghosh.
The Festival – Europe’s oldest and most respected showcase for independent South Asian cinema – will hold screenings of three of Ghosh’s most critically acclaimed films and a series of discussions on the filmmaker’s immeasurable contribution to Indian cinema.
The tributes will begin with a screening of ‘Chitrangada’, Ghosh’s seminal 2012 drama based on the story of the character...

In her twelve years in the film industry, Preity Zinta has broken the mould of what an Indian heroine should be: both on-screen and off. Yes, she may be the cute, bubbly, dimpled star, who in the early to mid-2000s ascended to the top her game with box office heavyweights Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Veer-Zaara. But there is also the festival film actor of Heaven On Earth and the art house The Last Lear. Preity is, however, more than the sum of her parts. An outspoken social activist promoting women's empowerment and a tireless campaigner for human rights, it is for this, her humanitarian work, as much as her contribution to cinema, that Preity has been recognised by the University of East London with an Honorary Degree. After a long hiatus, Preity will be making a comeback through her favorite camp, Yash Raj Films, with their upcoming movie Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (Mbkd). Starring chocolate hero Imran Khan and the lovely Katrina Kaif, Mbkd is supposedly the story of a young lad from an upper-middle class North Indian family who falls in love with his brother’s fiancée. Obviously, the million dollar question is that with Katrina in the movie, how much footage would Preity really have. Not that it matters though. We are sure she would charm us with whatever screen time she is provided with.

Preity Zinta is much like many of the characters she plays: a proud, independent woman of great warmth and depth. She made her acting debut in 'Dil Se' (1998) and won a Filmfare Best Actress Award for 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' (2003), both opposite Shahrukh Khan. Her hits include 'Koi...Mil Gaya' (2003), 'Salaam Namaste' (2005), and 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' (2006). In 2003, she testified against the mob after receiving extortion threats—she was the only one of 13 prosecution witnesses, including other celebrities, who did not retract earlier statements, and she was commended by the public for her courage. Recently, she has ventured into art film, appearing with Amitabh Bachchan in 'The Last Lear,' which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2007. Bollywood star Preity Zinta is reportedly taking up residence in Los Angeles. Rumor has it that the actress is planning to hire an agent in the U.S. and wants to try her hand at Hollywood projects.
On the heels of ending a four-year relationship with Indian businessman Ness Wadia, Zinta kept a low profile throughout most of 2009 and was visiting the U.S.—where her brother's family lives—during much of last year. She appeared in only one film in 2009—a musical-number cameo in the box-office flop 'Main Aur Mrs. Khanna,' which starred Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The word is that Zinta has not agreed to any new Bollywood projects so she can shift to her recently purchased home in La and keep her calendar clear.

India's latest blockbuster, 3 Idiots, has broken box-office records around the world – but it won't even make a dent in the British mainstream. Former Bollywood fan Nirpal Dhaliwal has a fair idea why
Bollywood films have always felt like a test of my identity, one I've consistently failed. Despite my family ties, love of India and fascination with it, my inability to enjoy Bollywood has highlighted just how unIndian I am. My taste in films, like most else about me, has been shaped by the UK. I am a "Britisher", as a friend in Delhi likes to say and, like the bulk of other Britishers, I enjoy Bollywood – with its music routines involving beautiful people, light-hearted songs and cleverly choreographed dancing – only in small doses. The typical three-hour Bollywood experience, with its cliched plots, dialogue, hammy acting and confusion of unrelated narratives baffles me.
I haven't liked it since I was a child,...

Bollywood star Preity Zinta will be gracing the classroom instead of the red carpet this winter—she's enrolled in a short executive course on negotiating and deal-making at Harvard Business School.
The 34-year-old actress has been diversifying her career beyond movies and wants to sharpen her business acumen. In 2008, she purchased an ownership stake in the professional Indian cricket team, the Kings XI Punjab. At the time, she was the youngest owner and the only female owner in the league. Zinta is currently hosting and producing a television reality show about her cricket team, called 'Behind the Seams.'
Zinta made her acting debut in 'Dil Se' in 1998 and won a Filmfare Best Actress Award for 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' in 2003. Anil Kapoor won’t like this. But Shefali Shah feels she deserved, and got, the National award for her performance in Rituparno Ghosh’s The Last Lear rather than the Anil Kapoor-produced Gandhi My Father. She was nominated for both the performances.
Many felt she should have won it for Feroz Khan’s Gandhi My Father. Shefali disagrees. “It was such an honor to be nominated for two performances. But Last Lear was much more difficult. Playing a real-life character, Kasturba and that too with an emotional and chronological graph that took me from young to old, gave me a lot of space to create my.

After playing a crooked film producer in "Om Shanti "Om", a brooding failed musician in "Rock On!" and a lame reluctant gangster in "Don", Arjun Rampal thinks it's high time he shed his serious image and show his funny side in multi-starrer "Housefull"."This is why I am mixing it all up now. I guess these movies were a great platform for me to showcase my acting talent. Having established that, I deserve to let my hair down now. Due to this I picked a film like 'Housefull'," Arjun said."It was good fun to be a part of this riotous outing since it's a genre that I haven't ever ventured into. I wanted to do a lighter film after all the aforementioned films and I am glad I did 'Housefull' even though my character is still quite intense,...

Although Anil Kapoor.s maiden production, Gandhi My Father, won three National awards (Feroz Abbas Khan for Best Screenplay, Darshan Jariwala for Best Supporting Actor and Special Jury Award), Anil is miffed about his film not bagging a major National Award. It niggles at him that Akshaye Khanna did not bag the Best Actor award. The buzz is that the actor-producer is so upset on missing out the major awards that he even skipped his close friends Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar.s bash on Thursday for the National Award winners.Actress Shefali Shah who did not win the award for Gandhi... but won one for The Last Lear attended the party. So did the Gandhi. director Feroz Khan. But Anil didn.t. Apparently, decades of proximity to Shabana and Javed were not a good enough reason to attend the party. When asked about it, Shabana said, .Anil couldn.t...

Arjun Rampal is quite sure that he can't really get intimidated by presence of big stars around him even though they may be seniors in the industry. Reason being that he has worked with the 'living legend' Amitabh Bachchan in as many as three films - Aankhen, Ek Ajnabee and The Last Lear. Post these three movies, he is quite comfortable about getting into a face/off with any other actor. "Mr. Bachchan is someone I have admired and if you can stand next to him and survive, you c...
