George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road spent so much time in development that its previous star, Mel Gibson, seemingly got too old for the action role. Gibson was replaced by Tom Hardy in the 2015 film, which went on to become one of the greatest action films of all time. Fans always wondered whether the Og Max Rockatansky would meet with the new one in any of the future installments. Miller confirmed that it wouldn’t happen and had a perfectly valid reason for it.
Mel Gibson in George Miller’s original Mad Max movie
Mad Max: Fury Road was released in 2015 and the critically acclaimed film is yet to receive a sequel after nearly a decade. Miller has moved on to focus on the prequel film, Furiosa, where Anya Taylor-Joy will play the younger version of Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa from the 2015 film.

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver is a movie directed by Zack Snyder starring Sofia Boutella. With Michiel Huisman, and Ed Skrein.
“Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver” takes us to the end of this tale of humble farmers and oppressive lords who demanded more than the townsfolk could provide, sparking a revolution.
This sequel presents us with a film divided into two clearly defined parts: the preparation for the battle and the battle itself. Both parts are captivating, filled with the exaggerated epic spirit of Zack Snyder – a style he’s unwaveringly maintained.
This film certainly won’t disappoint its fans, particularly those dedicated to Snyder’s ostentatious, unique, and dramatic style which is showcased in this intergalactic battle – yet another chapter in Snyder’s ongoing style guide.
The conclusion, however, holds no great surprises given the premises, and everything pans out as expected in this archetypal...

On the February 2nd edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Cody Rhodes sparked controversy by giving up his WrestleMania 40 main event position to The Rock, which drew significant criticism. However, the narrative took an unexpected turn during the WrestleMania 40 kickoff press conference, injecting a considerable amount of drama into the storyline. Since then, developments have unfolded, with The Rock seemingly aligning himself with Roman Reigns, adding layers to the ongoing narrative.
Cody Rhodes and The Rock on SmackDown
Fans are thrilled at the prospect of a potential clash between The Rock and Roman Reigns, but they expressed concern about it overshadowing Cody Rhodes’ storyline. Despite initial indications of heading in that direction, cooler heads prevailed, and fans can now anticipate Cody Rhodes facing off against Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 40. However, it appears even The Rock or John Cena can’t get close to beating a major Roman Reigns’ WrestleMania record.

Life hasn't changed much for "Bones" since it wrapped up in 2017. Throughout its 12-season run on Fox, Hart Hanson's procedural was never a ratings monster. But while other shows were dominating water cooler conversations, "Bones" was amassing a respectably sized and, just as importantly, loyal audience that only really began to peter off during its final seasons. By that point, the television landscape had changed so dramatically since it premiered in 2005, it was a miracle the show was even going at all! Similarly, while "Suits" has gained a surprisingly massive second wind on streaming in 2023, "Bones" has quietly kept puttering along at a steady pace as people either revisit the show or stream it for the first time.
Hanson has spoken on multiple occasions about the ways Fox tried to kill "Bones" early on during its tenure, frequently moving it to a different spot on the network's schedule with little to no advance notice.

Ashton Kutcher was once in a highly publicized relationship and marriage with Demi Moore before their 2013 divorce. While the two were together, Kutcher starred alongside controversial actor Katherine Heigl in Killers. And the pair engaged in a love scene Kutcher felt might as well have been cheating.
Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl co-starred in ‘Killers’ Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl | Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic
Kutcher and Heigl first collaborated on the 2010 feature Killers. The rom-com was about a wife who discovers that Kutcher’s character is a secret agent on his 30th birthday. Seeing as they portrayed a couple in the feature, Heigl and Kutcher both had to perform a love scene. At the time, this might not have been an issue for Heigl. Especially since the Knocked Up star immediately fell for Kutcher’s charm and looks. At times, Heigl wasn’t sure she was even acting out her attraction towards her co-star.

Tempting though it is to pen this review in the voice and style of Mort Rifkin, the most indelible Woody Allen character in years, the embattled New York-born director deserves a fairer shake––maybe a fair trial, if we could say. In this early-2020s era of a gradual pushback against MeToo morality, Allen actually found himself, with Coup de Chance, enjoying a high-ish-profile Venice premiere earlier this week on the verge of a legitimate comeback. A new Variety interview hinted at a path for resuming work in his former production model, an absolute pick of American A-listers again if (perhaps) just one of them scabs. But do we want this? Isn’t it all still enveloped in a kind of discomfort?

Following the massive success of The Blair Witch Project, production company Haxan Films kept the found-footage train going with FreakyLinks (originally titled Fearsum). While not everyone recognizes this hidden horror gem of television, those who do might recall its harrowing history. Considered by many to be ahead of its time, FreakyLinks is an entertaining time-capsule of what it was like to be on the weirder side of the internet before the turn of the 21st century.
Prior to its TV debut, FreakyLinks’ developers launched a paranormal-sleuthing website similar to the homespun one seen in the show. Sadly, the internet marketing did not pay off; shortly after premiering on Fox in October of 2000, the series was temporarily taken off the schedule due to low ratings. The network aired more new episodes that following January, yet once again, Fox pulled the plug. After the remaining episodes were burned off in June of...

Halle Berry became the first Black female actor to win an Oscar for Best Actress thanks to her starring role in Monster’s Ball. But before Berry, the movie was hip hop icon Queen Latifah’s movie to take.
Halle Berry ended up starring in ‘Monster’s Ball’ after Queen Latifah was offered the part Queen Latifah | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Monster’s Ball turned out to be one of Berry’s many career highlights. But it wasn’t a film that she pursued until reading the movie’s script. Although Berry was a rising star at the time, she wasn’t who the film’s director Marc Foster originally envisioned for the role.
“I first received the script from my manager who had gotten the script from Marc Forster’s agent. She passed it onto my manager already knowing that Marc really wasn’t interested in me. But she thought I would be right for the role,...

The WNBA hopes to find new bounce when it starts a line-up of Friday-night games on the broadcast network Ion.
The pact is part of a new deal struck between E.W. Scripps, which purchased Ion in 2020 for $2.65 billion and brings live sports to the outlet for the first time since it launched in 1998 as Pax TV, then under the aegis of Paxson Communications. And it suggests a new model for sports leagues hoping to navigate an era in which the traditional sports model — reaching fans via national and regional cable — is facing challenges.
The deal will give the WNBA more audience reach, with an “appointment viewing” event each Friday, says Colie Edison, the WNBA’s chief growth officer, in an interview. The league’s games are telecast by Disney’s ESPN and ABC, and Paramount Global’s CBS Sports, but those companies have rights deals with other, bigger leagues...

Dear Edward,
The news from Apple isn’t good.
The iPhone maker/streamer has canceled its Jason Katims-produced drama Dear Edward, making the series about the lone survivor of a plane crash one of Apple’s few scripted shows to get the ax after a single season.
Based on the book by Ann Napolitano, the series reunited Friday Night Lights creator Katims with leading lady Connie Britton and revolved around Edward (Colin O’Brien), a young boy who was the lone survivor of a plane crash. Taylor Schilling, Amy Forsyth, Carter Hudson, Anna Uzele, Idris DeBrand, Ivan Saw, Dario Ladani Sanchez, Eva Ariel Binder and Brittany S. Hall rounded out the cast. (Britton only had a one-year deal for the show, though Katims expressed hope of continuing her story should a second season have come.)

Slowly but surely the earlier work of Claire Denis is getting restorations and re-releases, from Beau Travail to L’intrus to No Fear No Die. While we hope Friday Night and US Go Home are in the cards, next up is her 1988 debut Chocolat. It should come as no surprise that WWE’s “Friday Night Smackdown” battled its way to the top of primetime yet again last Friday. The Fox broadcast netted a 0.4 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic. Valérie Lemercier directs and plays both old and young versions of the Canadian singer in a bizarre film that digitally superimposes her face on to the head of a young girl

In the ranks of international arthouse auteurs, the status of Claire Denis is curiously ambiguous: depending on which lens you look through, she’s either among the most venerated or the most undervalued filmmakers working today. Ask the critical community, and you’ll leave very much with the former impression. Many writers, this one included, will heap her with lofty superlatives, “greatest working filmmaker” among them; in the last edition of Sight & Sound magazine’s famous decennial critics’ poll of the greatest films of all time, her hypnotic 1998 masterwork “Beau Travail” was one of just four films from the last 20 years to place in the top 100.
And yet, 30 years and 13 features into a career at once dauntingly consistent and thrillingly unpredictable, the diminutive 72-year-old Frenchwoman is held in curiously circumspect regard by her own industry. She has never won an award at Cannes, Venice or Berlin, with a Locarno Golden...

NEW YORK -- Marking the first acquisition at the 40th annual New York Film Festival, Wellspring Media has acquired domestic distribution rights to French filmmaker Claire Denis' Friday Night (Vendredi Soir), with plans for a spring theatrical rollout. The project is--appropriately--scheduled to make its bow at the NYFF Friday night. Denis' previous credits include the 1999 NYFF entry Beau Travail, and last year's controversial Vincent Gallo-starrer Trouble Every Day. Acquired from Paris-based Pathe International, the erotic Night follows a woman (Valerie Lemercier) who plans to have dinner with friends before moving in with her lover. Forgetting the city is in the midst of a transit strike, she finds herself trapped in a massive traffic jam and is approached by a stranger (Vincent Lindon) who unexpectedly changes her life. The project was produced by Bruno Pesery through Arena Films, and was adapted by Emanuelle Bernheim from her own novel. The indie distribution banner Wellspring--formerly known as Winstar--recently acquired domestic rights to This Is Not a Love Song by British director Bille Eltringham (HR 9/24). The company's Russian Ark is also screening at the NYFF (HR 8/20).
