“Dancing with the Stars” premiered in 2005 with a focus on teaching celebrities some fancy footwork. But along the way the professional dancers who teach and partner with those celebrity amateurs became stars in their own right. Many of them returned to the show year after year, and over a dozen have won the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy over the course of the series. Scroll down to see every single “DWTS” pro champion, listed by their number of victories.
It’s fitting that the “DWTS” pros have become fan-favorites because they’re not just dancers. They’re also trainers, choreographers and storytellers, and their chemistry with the stars fuels the show’s best routines, so they’re truly the lifeblood of the competition, especially when they bring talent and charisma out of unexpected places, from child stars to race car drivers to one male model, Nyle Dimarco, who won the Mirror...

When model Nyle Dimarco won the Mirror Ball Trophy in season 22 with pro partner Peta Murgatroyd on “Dancing with the Stars,” it was a historic feat. It was the first time a deaf contestant ever won the competition. Now there’s a chance for lightning to strike twice. Daniel Durant, a deaf actor who co-starred in the Oscar-winning film “Coda,” is in the ballroom this season, and he’s off to a good start.

"Dancing With the Stars" has been on our screens for 30 seasons. Yes, you read that number right. For the past 16 years, ABC has played host to the popular dance competition that has crowned winners, including Hannah Brown, Adam Rippon, Jordan Fisher, Amber Riley, and Nyle Dimarco. Everyone and their mothers seems to have been on the show at this point, yet the network keeps finding more people to compete. For seasons 31 and 32, though, the show is moving off of ABC and onto Disney+.
Why Is "Dancing With the Stars" on Disney+?
In a unique move, Disney - the parent company of ABC - decided to move "Dancing With the Stars" to the streaming service, making it the first live show to air on Disney+. The announcement also stated the reason for the big change: football. "After over 30 seasons of the program on ABC, including two spinoffs, 'Dancing with the Stars'...

“Dancing with the Stars” judge Derek Hough holds the record for the most championships among professional dancers. He won the Mirror Ball Trophy six times over the course of his run on the show. That’s even more remarkable when you consider that no other pro dancer on the show has ever won more than two. It’s unlikely that anyone will come close to that record before the show ultimately runs its course — whenever that will be — but this season there are multiple double winners who could finally achieve that elusive hat trick.

The trailer for Peacock’s “Queer as Folk” hints at developing romances, pride events and at least one mother trying to pry into her child’s new relationship.
The show is a reimagining of the groundbreaking British series created by Russell T. Davies it follows “a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.” The tragedy is also heavily hinted at in the trailer.
“Like most queer ‘90s kids, I had a unique relationship with the original ‘Queer as Folk,'” Stephen Dunn, creator, executive producer, writer and director of the Peacock version, previously said in a statement. “Growing up, I was desperate for any sort of connection with people like me. It was the first time I really felt seen. The show offered a new paradigm – one where we could accept and celebrate queer love, families, and communities on a global stage.

I know it’s been such a long time. I’m very happy to see her like that.”
Yesterday, Spears confirmed that she is writing a memoir. In an Instagram post, she wrote, “It’s actually healing and therapeutic.”

Troy Kotsur has become the first deaf male actor to win a competitive Oscar, winning the Best Supporting Actor prize for his work on “Coda.”
Kotsur is preceded only by Marlee Matlin, his “Coda” co-star and on-screen wife, as the only other deaf individual to have won an Oscar. She won Best Actress for her work in “Children of a Lesser God” in 1986.
“This is amazing to be here on this journey,” Kotsur said through an interpreter as last year’s Best Supporting Actress winner, Yuh-Jung Youn, held his Oscar so he could sign his speech. “I really want to thank all the wonderful deaf theater stages where I was allowed to develop my craft as an actor.”
He added, “This is dedicated to the deaf community, to the Coda community, to the disabled community. This is our moment.”

Right before their film competes at the Academy Awards, the filmmakers behind documentary short “Audible” have debuted a PSA in honor of Deaf History Month.
“Audible” director Matthew Ogens and producer Geoff McLean have reteamed to produce a new public service announcement promoting Deaf History Month, which runs March 13 to April 15. The PSA features the documentary’s Amaree McKenstry-Hall, and deaf activist and model Nyle Dimarco, communicating through American Sign Language, explaining the documentary and Deaf History Month.
“We are tough, we are strong, we are determined,” McKenstry-Hall signs in the PSA.
Dimarco, who is a producer on “Audible,” adds, “There isn’t anything we can’t do, we will succeed.”
“Audible” focuses on teenagers at Maryland School for the Deaf, specifically following the life of McKenstry-Hall, then a senior at the school. The film depicts McKenstry-Hall as he competes on the school football team and attempts to defend the school’s winning streak,...

Netflix didn’t earn any Oscar nominations in the Documentary Feature category Tuesday, but it made up for that with documentary shorts.
The streaming platform claimed three of the five nominations for Best Documentary Short Subject, between Audible, Lead Me Home and Three Songs for Benazir.
Audible, directed by Matt Ogens and executive produced by Nyle Dimarco, tells a coming-of-age story of Amaree McKenstry, a high school senior at the Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick.
“It took about 12 years to get this film made — which means to get it to a group of people that understood it and were willing to support it and make it, and that was ultimately Netflix,” Ogens told Deadline today. “I believed in the film so long and these kids at Maryland School for the Deaf that just through thick and thin, rain or shine, I just kept pursuing it for a dozen years.

As always, this year’s Oscar nominees for documentary short subject is a compelling roster of incisive journalistic portraits of urgent world issues. Topics covered this year include the housing crisis, life in present day Afghanistan, a pioneering Black woman athlete, a deaf high school, and bullying. In a marked shift from previous years, the 2022 films skew heavily towards more human stories with strong narrative leanings. None of the hard-hitting investigative pieces from the shortlist, like contenders from Laura Poitras and Field of Vision, made the cut. Unsurprisingly at this point, awards dominator Netflix came out ahead, with three films on the list: “Audible,” “Lead Me Home,” and “Three Songs for Benazir.”
“Audible” follows a deaf high school footballer and his classmates throughout their senior year, and is directed by Matt Ogens and Geoff McLean and counts deaf actor and model Nyle Dimarco as a producer. Netflix also has Pedro...

As voters across the Academy branches mull over their Oscar nomination ballots, among the films they’re considering are two that deal with the Deaf experience. One, Coda, is the fictional coming of age story of a girl raised by Deaf parents. The other – Audible – tells a coming of age story as well, but this one is real.
The short documentary from Netflix, directed by Matt Ogens, centers on Amaree McKenstry, a senior at the Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick, who grew up in a family where he was the only Deaf person.
“I do feel lonely,” Amaree says in the film. “When I was a kid, they would just talk around me. And I didn’t understand any of it, so I’d just go off on my own. When I run into hearing people out in the world, I feel, as a Deaf person, I am alone.

Lena Waithe admitted at last night’s 27th annual Elle Women in Hollywood event that she tried to convince Halle Berry not to make her directorial debut with the upcoming feature “Bruised” because she was worried that the Oscar winner was taking on too much at once. “I told her to think long and hard about it before she made that decision,” Waithe said while presenting Berry with her Elle honor. “When she came back to me a few weeks later, she told me she understood why I was scared — because I love her and I wanted to protect her. And she was right. But then she said, ‘If I don’t do this, I’ll never forgive myself. I gotta see what I’m made of.’”

One thing the Oscar winner won’t be doing is guest hosting “The Bachelor.” You’d think producers of the romance reality show would have asked Theron, an unabashed and vocal fan of the franchise. “They have not, goddamn it,” she cracked at her Africa Outreach Project benefit. Would she do it? “No!” she said. “I’d make a terrible host.
