Gravitas Ventures has released the first trailer for Light Years, the coming-of-age comedy with Andrew Lauren and DJ Gugenheim at Andrew Lauren Productions and Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin’s Free Association producing and Colin Thompson directing.
The film follows a thirtysomething man as he embarks on a cosmic vision quest. Thompson stars in the pic alongside Christopher Gray, Jennifer Lafleur, Makenzie Leigh, Russell Posner and Libby Winters.
The story of how the film came together has its own, overcoming-the-odds feel to it as Thompson did everything from overcoming hurdles in post-production due to the Covid-19 pandemic, to having to play a number of characters to cover the actors not able to partake in filming, and to the script eventually finding its way into the hands of Free Association.
In these trying times when even the most sure-thing tentpoles are up in the air of where and when they end...

Bryon ‘Babs’ Widner (Jamie Bell) hears the buzz of a faulty electrical connection, triggering a transition to an operating table and screams as the tattoos covering most of his body start being removed. It’s a soundscape that’ll have you squirming in your seat, the close-up shots of scar tissue replacing ink as physical a transformation as the act is metaphorical. Because the art adorning his face, neck, and torso isn’t some elaborate supernatural fantasy with family memorials—it’s a map to the blackest center of his soul. Babs is a white supremacist and these “patches” define his rage and vitriol. They mark him as property of his Viking captain (Bill Camp’s Fred), a man who saved his life before promptly stealing it by turning him into a monster.

When “American History X” came out 20 years ago, part of its appeal was exotic. At the time, Neo-Nazis still seemed an outlandish, subterranean believe-it-or-not element in society. But the fact-inspired “Skin” arrives in a very different landscape, where white supremacists are coming out of the woodwork — running for political office, mainstreaming their rhetoric, providing “dog whistles” to the faithful on national TV.
Israeli director Guy Nattiv’s first U.S. feature is based on the experiences of one Bryon Widner, who gained attention for breaking from his white-power background and having the related tattoos that covered his body (and face) removed at tortuous length. Played by Jamie Bell — with a major assist from “makeup, tattoos, and prosthetic designer” Stevie Bettles — Widner’s story here is essentially one of painful tie-severing from an unhealthy subculture, with limited insight into that culture itself. It’s a narrow treatment of a now pressingly relevant subject,...

"You want to make it as some big journalist, you gotta go somewhere crazy." Crystal Sky Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for an indie dramatic thriller titled The Pirates of Somalia, from writer/director Bryan Buckley (The Bronze). The film tells the "incredible true story" of rookie journalist Jay Bahadur, who in 2008 decided to go to Somalia to embed himself among the pirates there. He ultimately succeeds in providing the first close-up look into who these men are, how they live, and the forces that drive them. Evan Peters stars as journalist Jay Bahadur, and of course they got Somalian native Barkhad Abdi to star as his local fixer. The cast also includes Coral Peña, Philip Ettinger, Russell Posner, Melanie Griffith, and Al Pacino. This actually looks better than expected, so far so good, I am honestly intrigued. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Bryan Buckley's The Pirates of Somalia,...

It seems the fog has burned off. Spike has cancelled The Mist TV show after just one season. Based on the Stephen King novella, The Mist first premiered on Spike TV on June 22, 2017. The Viacom-owned channel will rebrand as "Paramount Network," in early 2018. A few months prior to its first and only season debut, Kevin Kay, president of Paramount Network, TV Land and Cmt said the new TV series had "potential," and that they would renew it for season two, if the first season found "success" on Spike. Airing on the Spike cable channel, The Mist stars Morgan Spector, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Luke Cosgrove, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner, Dan Butler, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Frances Conroy. After the Copeland family’s daughter survives a brutal attack, an ominous mist overwhelms the town of Bridgeville, Maine.

A standout character from the first episode of “The Mist” (the only episode provided to press before the season premiere) is Adrian, played by Russell Posner. In many ways he is the typical misfit high schooler. He wears eyeliner, dresses in all black, and gets bullied as soon as he walks into a party filled with jocks. What is surprising though is his confidence. His story doesn’t revolve around coming out or growing into himself, which is typical of Lgbtq+ characters. He provides support to his friend Alex and talks like he’s been spending too much time on the internet,...

One episode was provided for review prior to broadcast.
Compact in size but full of bite, Stephen King’s The Mist told the story of a fog that swept through a sleepy town in Maine carrying demons unseen. The original 1980 novella might have only been 130 pages long, but it left its mark on popular culture, inspiring the seminal video game Half-Life and securing a big-screen adaptation in 2007 as well.
But if books and movies had their moment in the sun, now it’s TV’s turn. In a post-Breaking Bad and soon Game of Thrones climate, television is an art-form that’s on the rise, and money is being channeled towards creating shows that look like blockbuster films with the type of character development books once held exclusive rights over.
The Mist is TV for a new age, then; a gorgeously-shot character ensemble about people and their personal struggles.

Much like the thick veil of supernatural (?) fog blanketing the quaint town of Bridgeville, series showrunner Christian Torpe wants to keep viewers largely in the dark when it comes to The Mist and the horrors that lies within.
With little over a week to go until Spike’s premiere, Arrow in the Head caught up with Torpe to discuss his creative approach to Stephen King’s eerie novella, how it differs from Frank Darabont’s film adaptation, and why he believes that The Mist is just as much about the town’s reaction to chaos as it is about that abnormally thick, downright terrifying fog that begins to roll in off the mountains. As a matter of fact, Christian Torpe even went so far as to say that The Mist isn’t a “full-blown monster show,” which is almost to be expected.

You wait months – no, years – for a Stephen King adaptation and suddenly, three come along almost at once. In two weeks’ time, Spike will kick things off with a small-screen rendition of The Mist, King’s horror novella that imagines a scenario in which the quaint town of Bridgeville, Maine is enveloped by a deeply mysterious fog. Is it a government experiment gone awry? A surprise chemical attack? Or something not of this world?
Those questions will permeate the very fabric of Spike’s TV series, which will tell its unsettling story over the course of ten hour-long episodes – for the first season, at least. It’s the first of three Stephen King properties earmarked for an adaptation, what with The Dark Tower (August 4th) and It (September 8th) looming large on the horizon, too.

A primal fear begins to wash over the quaint town of Bridgton, Maine in these two nerve-shredding featurettes for The Mist, Spike’s long-awaited adaptation of the Stephen King horror masterclass.
Pegged to premiere late next month, The Mist will kick things off with a ten-episode run on Spike – for the first season, at least – that largely centers on Eve Copeland (Vikings star Alyssa Sutherland), a young mother ostracized by the people of Bridgton because her daughter reported a rape against one of the town’s star football players – the poster child of Maine, essentially. It’s a brutal crime that threatens to tear their family apart, and things only begin to escalate once that supernatural fog begins to roll in off the mountains. Is it the result of a government experiment gone awry? An alien invasion? Or something much, much worse?

I'm pretty excited about this new series adaptation of Stephen King's classic horror story, The Mist. The featurette is called "Entering The Mist", and it features the cast and crew talking about the series along with showing off new footage.
I like the direction they are taking the story, and it actually looks like it will be a very creepy show that will dive into psychological terror, which is exactly what I wanted to see from it!

Depending on who you ask, Frank Darabont‘s “The Mist” is either a stone-cold classic Stephen King adaptation, or it left room for improvement. Well, if you’re in the latter camp, the new TV series based on the author’s story not only takes a new crack at bringing it to life, but it expands the tale and brings it to some intriguing new places.
Starring Morgan Spector, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Luke Cosgrove, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner, Dan Butler, Isiah Whitlock Jr.

If you grew up a huge Stephen King fan, 2017 is turning out to be the wet dream you never could have planned for. This year alone, we’re getting adaptations of two pieces of his seminal works: It and The Dark Tower. Additionally, work has begun on Castle Rock, a series that works as something of a shared universe between a lot of his stories, and Mr. Mercedes is also set to premiere this fall. If all that wasn’t enough, Spike will also be remaking one of his shorter novellas, The Mist, into a new TV series.

One of my favorite Stephen King stories is The Mist and a series adaptation of it was announced back in 2015. Well, today the first eerie trailer has rolled in and I like what I'm seeing so far. As you'll see, the series doesn't follow the exact story that King wrote, but I understand they had to change some things up for the series. After watching the trailer, it wasn't hard for me to embrace those changes. It just helps open the world up more and I think it has potential to be a great show that will offer up some intensity and scares. I'm totally looking forward to watching it!

The news front on Spike TV's adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist has been relatively quiet in recent months, but that's now changed thanks to a new interview Lilja's Library conducted with Christian Torpe, the creator, executive producer, and showrunner of The Mist TV series, who discussed adapting King's novella, his respect for Frank Darabont's 2007 film, King's reaction to the pilot episode, and more.
Speaking with Lilja's Library, Torpe expressed his desire to do something different with his take on King's seminal novella, including not retreading Darabont's adaptation, which he greatly admires:
"It is not the same story as in the book and the movie, nor is it the same characters – but fans of the story will still see clear parallels... Some things are exactly the same, some are totally different. Some things you think are the same as in the original, but turn out to be something else entirely.

Stephen King’s vast archive of fiction continues to be a rich resource for Hollywood studios to mine. Cast one eye over the movie landscape and you’ll find that both The Dark Tower and It – arguably some of King’s finest work – are simmering in the works, not to mention Tod Williams’ rendition of lesser-known thriller Cell.
From one medium to another, Spike’s serialized take on The Mist – a gripping Stephen King novella – stands as one of the most intriguing properities on the network’s slate, and The Hollywood Reporter brings word of a final casting spree before production officially gets underway over the summer.
Among those that have been enlisted is Vikings actress Alyssa Sutherland, who has been set as Eve Cunningham, a “wife and mother who fights to protect her teenage daughter from unknown dangers lurking both inside and outside the mist while facing down her past.

Last year I began a tradition to help my fellow Bfca members choose more wisely when it comes to the "Young Performer" category by sharing an eligibility list. My belief is they often choose poorly because this category gets no pre-voting discussion whatsoever and it can be difficult to even think of who is eligible. That said, you can safely expect to see Abraham Attah (Beasts of No Nation) and Jacob Tremblay (Room) nominated because they have leading roles in films that have been discussed. But who else should or could be nominated?

“The D Train” is a head-scratcher of a film, and not in a good way. Written and directed by Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (the duo behind Jonah Hill’s short-lived animated series, “Allen Gregory”), the comedy stars Jack Black as Dan Landsman, a man still yearning for approval from high school classmates. He wasn’t popular when he graduated 20 years ago, and he still isn’t. He’s a social outcast, a guy who never really fit in and longs for adoration and acceptance. Despite this driving desire, Dan has a loving and attractive wife (Stacey, portrayed by Kathryn Hahn), an affectionate 14-year-old son (Russell Posner, “Fading Gigolo”), and an infant daughter. Given all he has at home — which, held up to the light of Dan’s social shortcomings, never achieves believability — you’d expect him to be more than content. Yet, he’s not. He barely acknowledges Stacey,...

Dan Landsman is not a thin fellow. Also, none of Dan's old school friends in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, want to hang out with him anymore. Dan embraces the former, but the latter gnaws away at him. He yearns to hang out with the other members of the 20th anniversary high school reunion committee, but the men make excuses and the women scurry away after their regular meeting. This makes Dan sad, because it means he must go home and spend time with his lovely and supportive wife Stacey (Kathryn Hahn) and their children, 14-year-old Zach (Russell Posner) and an infant. He's a bit prissy with the other committee members, and neglectful of his family, but not to extreme degrees, so it's hard to figure out...
