Exclusive: Fox has put in development Red Widow, a one-hour CIA thriller based on Alma Katsu’s forthcoming book, which Sarah Condon is executive producing. A search is underway for a writer to pen the adaptation via an open writing assignment.
In Red Widow, the lives of two female CIA agents become intertwined around an internal threat to the Agency’s Russia Division as they navigate the mostly male world of intelligence. USA Network has picked up to series its drama pilot Dare Me, from Universal Cable Prods. in association with Petter Berg and Michael Lombardo’s Film 44. Key to the project securing a series order by USA was Netflix coming on board for a co-licensing deal — called “co-producing” by USA — with the Internet network taking first-run rights to the series outside of the U.S.
Dare Me, starring Willa Fitzgerald, Herizen Guardiola and Marlo Kelly, was one of four pilots ordered by USA in April. Of the other three, Bourne offshoot Treadstone saw its order upped to straight-to-series last summer when another streamer, Amazon, signed on as international distributor, and Briarpatch was picked up to series last week. The fourth, Erase, starring Denis Leary, is not going forward.

The Matt Damon-led action thriller franchise is getting a prequel TV series called Treadstone. USA Network has ordered a pilot episode and it's being developed by Tim Kring, who created the hit superhero series Heroes.
I like the Bourne film franchise and I've enjoyed all of the films that have come from it. So I'm up for watching a series if it's good! If you couldn't tell by the title, the show will center around the CIA black ops program, Treadstone. Here's what we know so far thanks to THR:
Treadstone explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone — a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins. The series follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously "awakened" to resume their deadly missions.
This seriously sounds like it could be a great thrilling series!

USA Network has ordered four drama pilots. One is a spinoff of the “Bourne” movies, while another stars Denis Leary — and that’s just (literally) the half of it.
“Treadstone,” which hails from a “Bourne” franchise producer, “explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone — a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins,” per USA.
Leary’s “Erase” tells the story of Donal O’Neal, a “dirty ex-cop who decides to do the right thing and bring down his complicit superior officers,” according to the cable channel’s logline. “But his best weapon in this battle — a photographic memory — is suddenly compromised by symptoms of early-onset Alzheimer’s.”

“As the No. 1 cable entertainment network for a record 12 years in a row, USA Network delivers unmatched scale and momentum with a broad, diverse slate of programming,” said Chris McCumber, president, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “These new pilots add to our dynamic scripted pipeline with the big auspices, top creative talent and bold characters that have become USA’s signature.”
“Now more than ever, premium video content is proving to work the hardest for our marketing partners in helping them reach their business objectives,” said Mark Marshall, executive vice president, Entertainment Advertising Sales, NBCUniversal. “Having new, high quality scripted fare allows us to have the most meaningful conversations with advertisers about how USA can be a powerful part of their ad campaigns.”

Written for television by Andy Greenwald, who will executive produce along with “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail through his production company Esmail Corp and Anonymous Content’s Chad Hamilton, “Briarpatch” celebrates the beloved genre that Thomas’ book represents — a unique blend of crime, thriller, mystery, and pulp fiction – while updating his electrifying sense of fun, danger and place for a new generation. HBO has ordered a pilot for the comedy “Mrs. Fletcher,” with Kathryn Hahn set to play the title role.
Based on the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta, “Mrs. Fletcher” follows an empty-nest mom Eve Fletcher (Hahn) and her college-student son as they embrace their newfound freedom with mixed results. Eve, hoping to jump-start her love life, adopts a sexy new persona and discovers that her world is full of unexpected erotic possibilities.
The show is described as a dual coming-of-age story, exploring the impact of internet porn and social media on intimate relationships.
Perotta, who wrote the novel that served as the basis for HBO’s “The Leftovers,” will write the pilot in addition to executive producing. Nicole Holofcener will direct and executive produce, with Jessi Klein and Sarah Condon also executive producing.

Peter Cron has joined from The Weinstein Company as vp of production in film, while Jeff Stern arrives from Fair Harbor Productions as vp of scripted television. Likely Story has promoted Ryan Featherman to story editor.
“2015 is turning into a busy year for us, with three films coming out in theatres, four films in production, and the start of a TV division,” said Bregman (pictured).
“Stefanie [Azpiazu] and I are lucky to have found in Peter, Jeff and Ryan the perfect matrix of sophisticated taste, business savvy, boundless energy and the good hygiene that has become the hallmark of Likely Story’s contribution to the entertainment world.”

For me, "Looking" was that show on the HBO schedule I kept intending to watch, but continually got sidetracked with other things. It would seem that this was the case for a lot of people, or a significant enough amount for the network to cancel the show after just two seasons. Executively produced by David Marshall Grant, Sarah Condon, and Andrew Haigh (the writer/director behind "Weekend" and already hugely buzzed "45 Years"), the west coast, San Francisco set dramedy just couldn't seem to wedge itself into the major television conversation like other HBO shows such as "Girls," "Game Of Thrones," or "Silicon Valley." And indeed, ratings dropped from season one to season two. But HBO will give the show one last chance to say goodbye, with a final special episode. What that will entail is yet to be revealed, but it's nice the show is being given a chance to end on the right note.

Despite few viewers, HBO has ordered a second season of Looking, its new dramedy created by Andrew Haigh and produced by Haigh, Michael Lannan and Sarah Condon. Often called the Queer As Folk of our time, Looking tells the story of Patrick (Jonathan Groff), Agustín (Frankie J Alvarez), and Dom (Murray Bartlett), three 30ish friends living in San Francisco looking for love and sex and fulfillment and everything else. The first season started slow but picked up midway, ending with strong finish that averaged about 2 million cumulative viewers (including DVR and replays). There is a lot of promise here, and season two promises to introduce lots of new characters.
Looking premieres on Sunday, January 11 at 10 pm Et.

SundanceTV has renewed its second wholly owned original scripted series The Red Road for a second season with a six-episode order for 2015. The series chronicles the clash between two communities – a small town and the neighboring mountains, home to a Native American tribe -i and two men (Jason Momoa, Martin Henderson) on a collision course. “It’s a show about what happens when you try to bury the truth, and the devastating impact of that,” said SundanceTV President Sarah Barnett. Julianne Nicholson and Tamara Tunie co-star in the series from writer Aaron Guzikowski and producer Sarah Condon. No ratings information on the first season has been released.

The channel's name is Sundance, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that much of its original programming would evoke art house films from the nineties, arguably the peak of the Sundance Film Festival's cultural influence. The channel's latest miniseries The Red Road, about the conflict between entitled but troubled whites and an unrecognized Native American tribe, gets even more specific in its influences. It's a feel-bad regional potboiler in the vein of such dramas as Incident at Oglala, Sling Blade, and Heavy. Such movies prioritized atmosphere and characterization over plot, and examined their milieus with anthropological exactness, to the point where every pregnant pause and dropped "g" seemed freighted with meaning. Red Road creator Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband, Prisoners) and producer Sarah Condon (Bored to Death) go heavy on the portent. In theory, the show's main character is Harold Jensen (Martin Henderson), a New Jersey cop. He's the buffer between his community's...

HBO has ordered a second season of "Looking," its new dramedy about a trio of gay friends in San Francisco. Created by Andrew Haigh and produced by Haigh, Michael Lannan and Sarah Condon, "Looking" tells the story of Patrick (Jonathan Groff), a video game designer getting into his first serious adult relationship; Agustin (Frankie J. Alvarez), Patrick's ex-roommate, adjusting to living with his boyfriend; and Dom (Murray Bartlett), whose 40th birthday has pushed him to get serious about launching his own restaurant. Joining the cast full-time in season 2: Raul Castillo as Richie, Patrick's new boyfriend; Lauren Weedman as Doris, Dom's ex-girlfriend and current roommate; and Russell Tovey as Kevin, Patrick's boss and frequent (and probably mutual) distraction. Filming will begin later this year in San Francisco. I liked "Looking" after the first four episodes but felt more engaged by the depiction of San Francisco and the particular communities Patrick...

HBO‘s Looking has been a growth story, and now the gay-themed freshman dramedy has been given a second-season renewal. It comes after a third consecutive week of series highs posted by the ensemble comedy this past Sunday when it drew 519,000 viewers at 10:30 Pm, up 54% from the series premiere five weeks ago. Including encores, Looking averaged 749,000 viewers on Sunday, with its episodes attracting gross audience of 2 million viewers season to date. Despite Looking‘s soft ratings start last month, HBO brass were encouraged by the attention the show had been getting as they consider a show being part of the cultural conversation as important (and sometimes even more important) than ratings. As Looking‘s current HBO companion, Girls, has proven, the two are very much related, with the buzz surrounding Looking bringing more and more eyeballs. Created by Michael Lannan, Looking stars Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett...

"Looking" has yet to receive a second season from HBO (and considering its ratings, it may not), but should the gay-themed dramedy get a second year, star Jonathan Groff knows exactly who he wants as a love interest.
"Frank Ocean," he says, speaking with E! Online's Marc Malkin while at the Savannah College of Art and Design's aTVfest in Atlanta, Ga. on Friday (Feb. 7), where he was promoting the series. "Frank Ocean is the first one that comes to my head. He's completely like my celeb crush. He's amazing."
Turns out, Groff almost had a shot with Ocean this season. After the panel on "Looking," which Malkin moderated, executive producer Sarah Condon revealed that the R&B wunderkind was approached about being a part of the show but was unavailable due to touring commitments.
"I didn't know that!" Groff says.
