As is annual tradition, Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden has announced this year’s 25 film set to join the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. Selected for their “cultural, historic and/or aesthetic importance,” the films picked range from such beloved actioners as “Die Hard,” childhood classic “The Goonies,” the seminal “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” and the mind-bending “Memento,” with plenty of other genres and styles represented among the list.
The additions span 1905 to 2000, and includes Hollywood blockbusters, documentaries, silent movies, animation, shorts, independent, and even home movies. The 2017 selections bring the number of films in the registry to 725.
“The selection of a film to the National Film Registry recognizes its importance to American cinema and the nation’s cultural and historical heritage,” Hayden said in an official statement. “Our love affair with motion pictures is a testament to their enduring power to enlighten, inspire and...

Since 1989, the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress has been accomplishing the important task of preserving films that “represent important cultural, artistic and historic achievements in filmmaking.” From films way back in 1897 all the way up to 2004, they’ve now reached 725 films that celebrate our heritage and encapsulate our film history.
Today they’ve unveiled their 2017 list, which includes such Hollywood classics as Die Hard, Titanic, and Superman along with groundbreaking independent features like Yvonne Rainer’s Lives of Performers, Charles Burnett’s To Sleep with Anger, and Barbara Loden’s Wanda. Also making this list are a pair of Kirk Douglas-led features, Ace in the Hole and Spartacus, as well as Christopher Nolan’s Memento and more. Series finales can go one of two ways: They can limp to the finish line, or they can be a satisfying affair that brings a series full circle in a natural way.
Thankfully, The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 16 was a beautiful ending to a series that has struggled creatively for the past few seasons.
Let's talk about Stefan's sacrifice first. It made sense. There was no way Stefan was going to be able to apologize for the things he did in the past, so the best way to do so was to sacrifice his happiness to allow everyone else their own.
Giving Damon the cure and taking Katherine to the bitter end of her existence was his way of atoning for everything he has done over the years. The battle he had with Damon over who was going to die solidified the Salvatore brothers' strong bond.

Doctor Who, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Star Trek, The Simpsons... Juliette talks us through 10 great TV anniversary episodes...
With so many TV shows being cancelled after a season or two, it’s perhaps not surprising that those that keep going long enough to reach a significant milestone often want to mark the occasion in some way. Such celebratory episodes usually feature plenty of nods, in-jokes and references to past episodes and characters (frequently involving special guest stars from the show’s past returning in some form) and tend to be either light, sometimes metafictional comedy episodes, or extremely dramatic game-changers following which the show may never be the same again. If you’re not crying with laughter, you’ll probably be weeping at the emotional trauma inflicted by the story.

It's truly the end of an era on "The Vampire Diaries," as The CW series killed off one of its greatest characters ... permanently. Fans were forced to say goodbye to Katherine Pierce (one of Nina Dobrev's many roles) on the most recent episode on March 6, and this wasn't like any other "death" viewers have seen on "Tvd."
Nope, Katherine is really gone. For good. There's no eleventh-hour reprieve for the 500-year-old doppelganger/vampire-turned-human. No more body-jumping spells, no running from her fate, no bringing her back from the dead. Her soul was ripped from this world and dragged not to The Other Side for all eternity, but to "Tvd's" version of hell: The Dark Side (which is what we're calling it for a nice symmetry). It was violent, it was brutal, it was dark ... and, like we said, it was permanent. Goodbye, Katherine Pierce. This truly has been "the role of a lifetime.

On September 10, 2009, The CW premiered a supernatural drama about a high school cheerleader who met and started crushing on the new, mysterious guy in school. She would later find out that he was a centuries-old vampire with a complicated relationship with his bad-boy vampire brother.
But that's just where the drama started. Soon, that cheerleader would find out her best friend was a powerful witch, the resident mean girl in school need to sprout fangs in order to really grow up, and that she was a doppelgänger of those brothers' first love, a vampire who had been running for 500 years to save herself from the first vampires ever created. Typical high school drama, right?

The Vampire Diaries’ upcoming 100th episode centers on our favorite evil vixen in what could be her final moments. After Katherine Pierce had a heart attack and fell down the Salvatores’ stairs in the mid-season finale, we’re scared that it might finally be time to say goodbye to the woman who once loved both Salvatore brothers but never loved anyone more than herself. So to honor what could potentially be the most memorable death (or near-death) scene in season 5, we’re reliving similar moments from the past four seasons.

The Vampire Diaries, Season 5, Episode 5: “Monster’s Ball”
Written by Sonny Postiglione
Directed by Kellie Cyrus
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
Qetsiyah’s presence and subsequent spell two weeks ago altered the course of the show permanently, as not only did Stefan lose his memory and seemingly become a new person in the process, but Silas also lost his mind control capabilities, reducing his hold over people considerably. While last week’s episode explored the ramifications of the former, this week looks at the effect of the latter going forward, in a fascinating episode that, despite some issues, is the strongest one of the season.
The idea of introducing Nadia Petrova is an interesting one. While Katherine has been ruthless and manipulative through most of her time on The Vampire Diaries, the one time she did show genuine emotion and vulnerability was when she...

The Revenant
Stars: David Anders, Chris Wylde, Louise Griffiths, Jacy King | Written and Directed by Kerry Prior
Revenant – One who returns from the dead in corporeal form.
Dying sucks. I mean, think about it. You cease to exist, and all the beautiful things in life can never be seen again. You become worm food, a permanent resident taking up real estate six feet under. But what if, and those are some powerful words, what if you didn’t have to stay dead? What if you could come back and be immortal, for lack of a better word? It’s not something to be taken lightly and in the wrong hands, it can go bad for everyone involved. How would you use that power? And therein lies the central idea of The Revenant.
We follow the story of Bart Gregory, a soldier “killed to death in a gunfight,” while on patrol in Iraq.

The Vampire Diaries is about to make like The Little Mermaid. Why will this CW smash take viewers under the sea? In order to relive the event that changed Elena and Jeremy's lives forever.
According to the latest E! Spoiler Chat, producers are casting for actors to come on board as Grayson and Miranda Gilbert - Elena's adopted parents, who raised her as their own after John Gilbert took girlfriend Isobel to his brother's for delivery assistance - and there's a twist:
The guest stars will be required to take scuba lessons, which likely means we'll be taken back to the car accident off the bridge that took Grayson and Miranda's lives and which, unbeknownst to Elena at the time, represented the first contact between Stefan and his future love.

Hey Guys,
I just had an idea for a new feature for the website, where we will have listed all the people who are on twitter who are in the TV world. That place will be here in this post, and we can try to keep it up to date with all the latest shows and people joining from around the globe with connections to television.
Of course, I don't have the names and twitter accounts for all the people on twitter, but I've made a start and now you can send in all the twitter accounts you know of for us to add to the collection :)

So, if you’re like me you’re probably still bummed about all the tragedy that has befallen Mystic Falls and in particular the Gilbert family. Sure, we said goodbye to Jules the werewolf on The Vampire Diaries, but nobody really cares about werewolves. They’re like the forgotten and abused stepchild of the supernatural TV and Film world.
As for the Gilbert family, while John Gilbert was introduced as a major douche, he did have the best of intentions in mind for daughter Elena. Now, he’s sacrificed his life to save his daughter. Unfortunately, his switch from the dark side came a little to late to save Elena and Jeremy’s guardian and Alaric’s girlfriend Jenna. As predicted we’ve had to wave goodbye to Jenna. This was easily the biggest loss to date on Tvd.
Is anybody starting to think that Jeremy is bad luck? The closer you are to Jer,...

In the moments following "The Sun Also Rises," my wife called it the greatest episode of any show ever. While she has a penchant for hyberbole, this wasn't too big of a stretch.
The action never ceased, the shockers kept coming and the death toll rose, which was sad to watch in a sense, but befitting of an episode devoted to Klaus and the sacrifice ritual.
Even the non-stop changes to the supernatural rule book are sold by terrific storytelling and complex characters one can really invest one's self in, even when you least expect to.
Without further delay, let's break down the major events of "The Sun Also Rises," analyze the fallout, and talk about why this dark chapter of Tvd was one of its (if not the) best ...

Everyone has been waiting for Elena (Nina Dobrev) to turn into a vampire on The Vampire Diaries, and now it may finally happen.
In one of the most shocking scenes to date, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) bit into his flesh and made Elena drink his blood. Now, when Elena is killed as part of Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) plan, she will join the Salvatore brothers in life everlasting.
Unfortunately, there will be casualties.
Jenna (Sara Canning)
This may have been one of the saddest moments on Tvd, but it was revealed in “The Last Day” that Jenna was turned by Klaus. Showrunners Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson simply couldn’t leave viewers with only one shock in this episode. As part of Klaus’ ritual, he will have to kill one vampire and one werewolf before killing the doppleganger. These things have to happen for Klaus to be weakened, which means Elijah will advocate for Jenna’s death.

New ‘Vampire Diaries’ episodes are less than a week away! Satisfy your craving with these new photos & video!
Does anyone have a change of pants? Because there’s a new promo out for this season’s final six episodes of The Vampire Diaries, and I may have wet myself with excitement while watching it. When the show finally returns April 7: Jenna (Sara Canning) loses her mind, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) loses his shirt, and Elena (Nina Dobrev) Finally tells off her bi-atch of a mother, Isobel (Mia Kirshner!) God, I hate Isobel…
Other highlights include: Alaric (Matt Davis) delivering a well-deserved punch in the face to father-of-the-year John Gilbert (David Anders) and Bonnie (Katerina Graham) having a major magical freakout. (I’m more scared than ever for the well-being of our First Lady of Sass.)

So, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) is dead, right? He was killed at the hands of Elena (Nina Dobrev). Well, actually Alaric (Matt Davis) killed him first; Alaric just didn’t know that for Elijah to stay dead the dagger had to remain lodged inside his body. And, what does that mean?
Duh! Elijah will be coming back to The Vampire Diaries. When? No one knows, except showrunners Julie Plec, L.J. Smith and Kevin Williamson. But, Elijah will probably resurface once again. Perhaps it will be in the battle with Klaus; Stefan (Paul Wesley) or Damon (Ian Somerhalder) may have to bite their vamp tongues and turn to Elijah for help. Or, after Klaus is killed, Kat (yup, she’s baa’aack!) or John Gilbert (David Anders) may resurrect Elijah as part of one of their wily schemes.
Regardless of what happens to Elijah’s dead body, one things certain: nobody wants...

You'd think you'd take notice if your niece was sleeping with a vampire right under your nose, but "The Vampire Diaries'" sole parental figure, Jenna Sommers, still hasn't clued into the supernatural war being waged in her living room.
After playing Katherine's pawn early on in the season, Jenna is finally making some of her own decisions now that John Gilbert has tipped her off to the fact that something is rotten in the state of Denmark. In tonight's Feb. 17 episode, Jenna attends a dinner party at the Salvatore Boarding House with the rest of the adults on the show... all of whom are lying to her.
Zap2it jumped on the phone with Sara Canning to get the dish on a possible love connection between Jenna and Elijah -- and we had to ask when Jenna and Matt (Zach Roerig) would finally catch a break.

One, two, Elijah’s coming for you.
Three, four, Elena’s got to die.
Five, six, Damon still hearts Elena.
Seven, eight, Yay for Jer and Bon!
Nine, ten, The Originals are back again.
Filler episodes be damned. We’re past the halfway point on The Vampire Diaries. And, that means waving a fond farewell to filler episodes and a cheering for a warm welcome to plot-thickening drama-infused vampire madness. The war is about to begin in Mystic Falls (see the breakdown). Elijah’s secret has been exposed. He’s going to kill Elena to take down Klaus.
Guess what Mystic Falls Vamp Squad ((Stefan, Damon and Caroline)? You can’t do a damned thing to stop him. At least, not yet. Apparently, the only thing that can weaken The Originals is Elena’s death. Don’t expect Damon or Stefan to give up their heart so willingly. That wouldn...

Welcome to The Vampire Diaries Round Table. As is our custom following each new episode, our esteemed panel has arrived to analyze the latest installment of this CW smash, reviewed in depth Here.
Below, editor-in-chief Matt Richenthal is joined by TV Fanatic writer Steve Marsi and fellow critic Eric Hochberger to discuss topics from "Crying Wolf" ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What was your favorite quote/scene from the episode?
Matt: Stefan's take that Elena's sacrifice is "tragic," not heroic. There's so much potential to the possibility of Elena turning at some point and I loved how the seeds were planted for it here.
Steve: I'm still laughing over Damon's response to Alaric's request Not to kill Andie: "If I did, who would report her death?"
Eric: I've gotta go with Bonnie's spell on Luka, only because it revealed so much juicy information. Elijah plans on letting Elena die? Luke has a sister? Klaus has...
Jeremy Gilbert has spent a majority of his time on The Vampire Diaries quiet, brooding, away from the supernatural madness.
But the character has been forced to get more involved this season, considering Damon sort of killed him and then he started to crush on a witch. Viewers should expect to see a lot more of Jeremy in the spotlight as episodes progress, says Steven R. McQueen, who teased to Entertainment Weekly major advances in Jeremy's love life and his hunting life...
How will Jeremy interact with Luke and Jonas? There’s definitely a conflict coming up.
Will Jeremy get close to John Gilbert? He’s pulled in two different directions. I think at some point Jeremy is going to be trained in the art of vampire-hunting. Whether that’s Uncle John or Alaric has yet to be seen.
What's the deal with Jeremy and Bonnie?!? Things definitely start to...
How will The Vampire Diaries leave fans hanging at the conclusion of season two? That's just one of the spoiler-iffic pieces of information producer Julie Plec and various cast members revealed to TV Guide this week.
Settle in and prepare for a major preview of what's to come over the next few weeks/months in Mystic Falls...
There unforeseen alliances ahead. So says Paul Wesley, while Plec says the vampire/werewolf war will escalate and "the next few episodes take us down the road of what Tyler knows, what he learns and how it impacts his friendships with Caroline and Matt."
Remember that previously teased flashback? It will show us a side of Stefan that is "very Damon-esque," Wesley says. "He's lost and he doesn't know what to do with himself. He's living in guilt, so he is just sinful and lustful. We get some blood addiction. We're going back...
The next episode of "The Vampire Diaries" is titled "Daddy Issues" for one paternal figure makes a come back. John Gilbert's return to Mystic Falls comes as an unhappy surprise to Elena, Jenna and Damon. It was revealed in the first season that David Anders' character John aka Uncle John is Elena's biological father.
It is Stefan who brings John back to town, much to Elena's frustration. "She feels like everyone around her is against her," Nina Dobrev told Zap2It. "She has one thing in mind: she wants to sacrifice herself to save her family and her friends, and they are hell-bent on stopping her. It almost feels like everyone is against her. Now, her father comes home on top of everything, and he's in cahoots with everyone about it."
Damon Salvatore has a secret, Vampire Diaries viewers, and he just couldn't keep it at the conclusion of "The Descent."
It's not that he loves Elena and it's not that he's saddened by the demise of Rose. It's that he actually yearns to be the exact thing he has spent months claiming to despise: human. I didn't see that admission coming.
The 2011 premiere of The Vampire Diaries kicked off and concluded with a major body count: three campers (dead), one shirtless blood sucker (Stefan), one unfortunate female (dead? dying? Damon's new sex slave?)
In between, the plot didn't move forward very much, but plenty of information was passed between characters that planted the seeds for what should be an exciting second half of the season. To wit:
Stefan is pulling a Katherine, trying to build up his tolerance to vervain. Not a bad strategy, but let's remember how close he...
Damon doesn't get to have all the fun around here.
Zap2it caught up with "The Vampire Diaries" star Paul Wesley at a recent promotional shoot in Los Angeles, and before he had to hop on a plane back to Atlanta for production, he filled us in on a whole new side of Stefan.
In an upcoming episode, we'll flash back to 1864 again -- but this time, we'll see just how Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan first adjusted to their new vampire instincts after they turned.
"I'm so excited," Wesley tells us, his eyes lighting up. "We have a flashback, and Stefan is very Damon-esque. He's lost; he doesn't know what to do with himself. He's living in guilt, so he's just sinful, and lustful, and very Damon-like -- times ten. It's kind of fantastic."
In the present, Stefan has found a temporary fix for his blood addiction, as Elena...
Zap2it caught up with "The Vampire Diaries" star Paul Wesley at a recent promotional shoot in Los Angeles, and before he had to hop on a plane back to Atlanta for production, he filled us in on a whole new side of Stefan.
In an upcoming episode, we'll flash back to 1864 again -- but this time, we'll see just how Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan first adjusted to their new vampire instincts after they turned.
Julian Sands, Jonathan Rhys Meyers... Ian McShane?!?
Like all fans of The Vampire Diaries, Daniel Gillies has some ideas on who ought to portray Klaus. But while we need to wait a few weeks for that discovery, the countdown is officially on for the January 27 return of this exhilarating show.
How will Gillies' Elijah continue to make an impact on it? The actor teased a bit of what's ahead in a recent EW interview, excepts from which are below.
On Elijah: He’s incredibly learned. I think he already has a very broad knowledge of the area. He definitely does, it’s revealed precisely how later on. But it’s quite possible that he’s bored out of his mind at this function, but the thing that fuels him is his desire to lure Klaus.
On his relationship with Jenna: He will be using Jenna... I think he’s enjoying...
For Jenna and Alaric, life can't be all ice cream bowls and shirtless scenes.
While this couple has grown closer on The Vampire Diaries, it's mostly done so off-screen. But Sara Canning says that will soon change when David Anders returns as John Gilbert and causes problems for her character, who remains in the dark about... pretty much everything in Mystic Falls.
“We’ve seen to what degree already John affects Jenna," Canning told EW. "We know they’ve had a past relationship. We know that he’s making trouble for her in terms of guardianship of Elena and Jeremy... But I think the more significant thing that we’re gonna see is the tension that it puts on the relationship between Jenna and Alaric."
Producer Julie Plec has said John will return at some point next month.
As for another relationship, might we see more of Jenna and Elijah?...
