Netflix Animation held its first slate preview event June 6 at the Tudum in L.A., as a lead-up to the Annecy Animation Festival (June 9-15), where it will premiere Shannon Tindle’s “Ultraman: Rising” (streaming June 14) and tout some of its upcoming works in 2024 and 2025.
Hosted by Christopher Sean (the voice star of “Ultraman: Rising”), attendees were treated to exclusive presentations, previews, and special announcements. The biggest announcement was the full title of Aardman’s next stop-motion feature, “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl,” which will have an Oscar-qualifying run this winter before streaming in 2025.
Directed by franchise creator Nick Park and creative director Merlin Crossingham, who offered a pre-recorded introduction, “Vengeance Most Fowl” marks the return of the villainous penguin, Feathers McGraw, from the Oscar-winning short “The Wrong Trousers.” The film is a cautionary tale of high-tech gone wrong involving an out-of-control “smart gnome” with a mind of its own.

The entertainment world was recently dealt a heartbreaking blow with beloved actor Andre Braugher passing away unexpectedly at the age of 61. Braugher was best known for his roles on shows like "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." Before the actor's passing, he had been working on a new TV show for Netflix called "The Residence." It will now serve as the actor's final project. Much remains in flux, but we know quite a bit about the show already.
The eight-episode series hails from Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, with Paul William Davies on board as the writer and showrunner. It is based on Kate Andersen Brower's book "The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House," but interestingly, it's said that the show will only use the book as a jumping-off point, so it won't be an outright adaptation. The plot line for Passenger C reads like an “only in Hollywood” inspirational tale. Big-time Hollywood agent and producer Cassian is on a red-eye flight back to Los Angeles when he agrees to take the seat next to Marco, an ex-Marine with Ptsd. When Marco begins to flip out, physically assaulting Cassian and threatening the other passengers, Cassian tries to calm him down. After landing, when Marco is handed over to the police, Cassian promises he “won’t forget him.”
He never did. Cassian is the producer and big-time Hollywood agent Cassian Elwes, and the incident on the red-eye, more than a decade ago, changed his life. It altered the course of Elwes’ career, pushed him to back a project nobody in Hollywood believed in — a little Oscar winner called Dallas Buyers Club — and to set up programs like the Horizon program to help female filmmakers and, most importantly, to...

The first season of the HBO TV series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us (read our review Here) filmed in Calgary, Alberta for twelve months straight, with different areas doubling for the U.S. locations Texas, Wyoming, and Missouri. The first season covered the entirety of the first game’s story, so for season 2 (and beyond) The Last of Us will be telling the story of the video game sequel The Last of Us Part II… and for that, the show needs Pacific Northwest locations. So Deadline reports that The Last of Us is moving its base of operations to Vancouver, British Columbia.
The story of the The Last of Us video game is set years after a fungal plague wiped out much of humanity, transforming most into vicious zombie-like monsters, the story follows Joel, who’s living in a militarized quarantine zone. He has a close relationship with Tess,...

Gabriel Luna played Tommy, the younger brother of Pedro Pascal’s character Joel, in the first season of the HBO TV series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us (read our review Here), and he is expected to return – and have more to do – in The Last of Us season 2. The first season of The Last of Us covered the events of the first video game in its entirety, so season 2 (and beyond) will be based on the sequel video game, The Last of Us Part II.

The first season of the HBO TV series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us (read our review Here) made its premiere in January and wrapped up its nine episode run earlier this month… and while the series is guaranteed to receive a second season, fans are going to have to wait a while before they’re able to watch it. The first season of the HBO TV series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us covered the entirety of the first game, and for the second season the show will be moving on to an adaptation of the sequel game, The Last of Us Part II. But season 2 is not going to cover the entirety of the second game. It’s going to take more than one season to tell this story.
During an interview with GQ, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann (who was also the creative director on the video games) were asked if the next season would “span the entire course of the second game”. Mazin replied, “No. No way.” Druckmann added, “It’s more than one season.“
But when asked if the story of The Last of Us Part II would cover two or three seasons, Mazin and Druckmann couldn’t give a solid answer.

The HBO TV series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us has reached the end of its nine episode first season, and with those nine episodes it told the entire story of the video game. But there is a second video game to adapt for the second season that HBO ordered after only two episodes of The Last of Us had aired, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann (who was also the creative director on the video games) discussed their approach to bringing the story of The Last of Us Part II to the screen for The Last of Us season 2.
When asked about their creative process, Mazin said, “Our process works. Our process of kicking the tires on everything, our process of agreeing that no matter how much we disagree, we will find a way to agree. There’s no veto power here.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Last of Us” Season 1, Episode 7, “Left Behind.”]
A lot of the conversation around “The Last of Us” centers on what gets lost after the world changes. There’s societal collapse, transformation, widespread death, and a fundamental shift in priorities. But for all that’s missing in a post-Outbreak world, the series’ latest episode “Left Behind” does make room for a kind of wonder that wasn’t really present in the Before Times. Some of the lone bright spots in the show have come from Ellie (Bella Ramsey) being in absolute awe of something she’s never experienced before. We’ve seen her try to wrap her head around football, airplanes, and monkeys. There are tragic reasons that all these things are novelties to her, but that sense of discovery the show gets from her circumstances is what’s sometimes able to balance out the harshness.
So as the season gears up for the homestretch,...

For most of the video game of The Last of Us, players play as Joel. But there’s a chunk of gameplay in which the action switches to Ellie’s point of view, and that’s where we land at the start of this week’s episode.
While Joel is down for the count, courtesy of the wound he sustained at the end of Episode 6, the series employs a flashback that’ll be familiar to those who’ve played Left Behind, the downloadable content (aka enhancement game) that serves as a corollary to the video game on which the show is based.

When the HBO TV series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us premiere a week ago (you can read our review Here), it became HBO’s second-biggest debut since 2010, only coming in behind the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. The first episode of The Last of Us was watched by 4.7 million viewers. Now Variety reports that even more viewers tuned in for the show’s second episode – so many that The Last of Us broke HBO’s record for a viewership increase.
Variety says: Episode 2 brought in 5.7 million viewers across linear airings on HBO and streams on HBO Max. That marks a 22 increase from last week’s record-breaking 4.7 million. … Per HBO, the jump from the initial premiere viewership to Episode 2’s debut audience is the “largest week 2 audience growth for an HBO Original drama series in the history of the network.” The network also offered...

Don’t expect to see much, if any, “filler” in the nine episodes that make up the first season of HBO’s TV series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us, which is set to premiere on January 15th, kicking off with a pilot episode that is expected to have a running time of 85 minutes. Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann recently sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and during the interview it was revealed that this season of the show will cover the entirety of the first The Last of Us game. If the show gets a second season, it’s expected to cover the story of the second game, The Last of Us Part II. As Mazin told The Hollywood Reporter, “I don’t like filler.”

Actor Troy Baker provided the voice and motion-capture performance for the character Joel in the video game The Last of Us – and while he has handed that role over to Pedro Pascal for the upcoming HBO TV series adaptation of the game, Baker will be appearing on the show. He has been cast as James, “a senior member of a group of settlers who must fight to keep their community alive in the face of increasingly brutal odds.” And that’s not his only involvement with it. It has been announced that Baker will also be hosting the official companion podcast, where he will sit down with series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for “a scene-by-scene deep dive of each episode.” Which sounds like a good time for The Last of Us fans!

A TV series based on the hit video game The Last of Us is set to premiere on HBO on January 15th, kicking off with a pilot episode that is expected to have a running time of 85 minutes. In anticipation of the show’s premiere, writer Craig Mazin and the game’s creative director Neil Druckmann sat down for an interview with The New Yorker – and during the conversation, they revealed some of the differences between the video game and the TV series adaptation.
While The Last of Us is such a faithful adaptation that some of the game’s dialogue was dropped right into the TV show, Druckmann also felt it was freeing to be able to move away from the lead characters Joel and Ellie sometimes – something the game never did. As The New Yorker explains, “Whereas players could piece together what had happened to the rest of...

But during a recent convention appearance, Jensen Ackles – who played the role of Dean Winchester on fifteen seasons of the show Supernatural and was recently seen as Soldier Boy in season 3 of The Boys – revealed that he had been “pushing hard” to be cast as Joel before Pascal signed on.
As seen in the Twitter embed below, Ackles said, “I was really kind of pushing hard, but I don’t think I was really in the mix or even had a shot at it, for Pedro Pascal’s role in The Last of Us. That was high up on my radar.“

The HBO series based on the hit video game The Last of Us is scheduled to premiere on January 15, 2023, at 9pm Et/Pt – and cast member Murray Bartlett, who plays post-pandemic survivalist Frank in the series, has a lot of positive things to say about the scripts for the show. It’s an amazing creation. They’ve really beautifully adapted all of those elements into this show.“

HBO has unveiled the first trailer for “The Last of Us,” the highly anticipated drama series adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game of the same name.
Set 20 years after the fall of civilization, the story follows Joel (Pedro Pascal), a survivor who is hired to smuggle a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. But while the job begins small, it soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey across the U.S. that finds both leaning on one another for survival.
The largely dialogue-free trailer previews a post-apocalyptic epic, albeit one with an intense focus on the characters at the center of the story. Just like the game.
Neil Druckmann, the creator of the video game, serves as co-creator on the series alongside Craig Mazin, who created HBO’s acclaimed limited series “Chernobyl.” Druckmann and Mazin also serve as writers and directors on the show.

Voice actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson — who played Ellie and Joel in “The Last of Us” — are joining HBO’s adaptation of the acclaimed Naughty Dog video game of the same name as different characters, co-creator, executive producer, writer and director Neil Druckmann said Thursday.
Johnson and Baker join previously announced cast members Bella Ramsey, Pedro Pascal, Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Jeffrey Pierce, Storm Reid and Anna Torv.
“The Last of Us” — also co-created, executive produced, written and directed by Craig Mazin — centers on Joel (Pascal), a hardened apocalypse survivor who attempts to smuggle a 14-year-old Ellie (Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine area two decades after modern civilization has collapsed. What begins as a simple mission transforms into a larger struggle for survival. The show is expected to premiere in 2023.
