Exclusive: Now that we know the competition slates, it’s time to bring out the star packages that will line the Cannes Market. Here’s one inspirational movie package that ought to register strongly with the buying crowd. Way of The Warrior Kid is slated to begin production this summer, with Chris Pratt starring and McG directing a Will Staples-scripted adaptation of the the novel by Jock Willink. He is the retired Navy Seal who found a thriving second career as podcast host, bestselling author and motivational speaker.
UTA Independent Film Group and FilmNation will introduce the script shortly. If it’s as good as the backstories here, it ought to be a hot property. It’s a youth empowerment tale, only the title character isn’t waving a magic wand or wearing spandex. He’s a self-doubting kid who gets bullied and is hard pressed to complete a single pullup.

'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' star Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' trailer: Movie stunt combo "Desperate times. Desperate measures," says Tom Cruise aka Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation trailer aka the Mission: Impossible 5 and/or MI5 trailer. Whatever you call it, that particular line could be read in a number of ways: Tom Cruise's superstardom is in the doldrums – at least that's what we hear from those who see reality only through U.S.-focused lenses – and he needs all the box-office help he can get. Hence, MI5. Hollywood is in dire need of a mammoth domestic blockbuster following a year of mediocre-performing tentpoles at the U.S. box office. Hence, MI5. The world's socioeconomic fabric is about to unravel. Hence, MI5 – so humankind can go with a bang. Not only with a bang, but with mirth as well.

"Where is Hunt?" After some trouble seemed to be brewing over getting a real ending together for Mission: Impossible 5, which was worrisome since the film was moved to a July release instead of the later December arrival, the film now has a title, poster and a quick teaser trailer. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation sees the Imf team battling a secret organization that is basically the antithesis to everything the team has been fighting for, and everyone is at risk. The teaser trailer shows action that's bordering on the silliness of Mission: Impossible 2, but there's also stylistic flares of the first film, so I'm not sure what to think. Watch! First teaser trailer for Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation from YouTube: Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation is directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) and written by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) and video game scribe Will Staples.

Paramount Pictures revealed today that Mission: Impossible 5 - the fifth installment in the hugely-popular action franchise – will be granted a simultaneous IMAX release this summer. The last M.I. caper, Ghost Protocol, featured several mind-blowing sequences shot specifically with IMAX cameras to capture the sheer scale of the scenes, so it’s no surprise that the studio is going the same route with this one.
However, this time around, director Christopher McQuarrie hasn’t been tasked with that responsibility, as the new flick has been “digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX Dmr® (Digital Re-mastering) technology.” While it might not offer that same pop as Ghost, judging by the glimpses we’ve seen at the flick – Tom Cruise dangling from a plane at 5,000 feet – there’s no doubt it’ll still be a killer ride. I can’t say I’m even the tiniest bit surprised that Mission: Impossible 5 will screen in the big ol’ IMAX format, but Paramount have gone through with the formality of announcing the plans today.
When the film moved from Christmas to the summer it seemed to be a swerve to get out of Star Wars way, but more so on the limited IMAX circuit than in general. There’s more than enough ‘little screens’ for Impossible to come along a week or so after Wars, but the multi-storey IMAX affairs are rarer.
And Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol is probably the most effective IMAX release to date, going right for the easy-press button on anybody who is at all scared of heights. I guess they’re looking to recapture a bit of that magic here, likely with the big set piece where Tom Cruise walks around on the outside of a plane.

Opening a week after Star Wars: The Force Awakens pretty much guarantees that Mission: Impossible 5 will fail to hit the #1 spot at the box office. Sensibly, Paramount Pictures have now moved the movie five months way from it!
Don’t panic though as we won’t be waiting until 2016 to see Tom Cruise return as Ethan Hunt!
Mission: Impossible 5’s new release date is July 31st, this year. This means it will open opposite Southpaw (starring Jake Gyllenhaal), the Point Break remake, and Tarsem Singh’s science fiction thriller Selfless starring Ryan Reynolds.
It’s also sandwiched right between Ant-Man and Fantastic Four, so the busy July will be very interesting to see play out at the box office. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol earned just under $700 million when it opened in 2011.

Paramount movies Mission: Impossible 5, starring Tom Cruise, forward from December to July...
Now here's a sign of confidence. We hear plenty of times about a studio moving a blockbuster movie back, and buying itself some more time at the last minute to sort things out. But how often, within a year of release, does a studio being a film forward by five months?
That's just what Paramount Pictures has done with the still-in-production Mission: Impossible 5. Originally scheduled for December, the film is now going to land on July 31st 2015.

This summer marks the release of a few tentpole films, each vying for a space at the top. The biggest is most certainly Avengers: Age of Ultron, but there’s also Jurassic World, Ant-Man, and Terminator: Genisys to contend – not to mention all the animated films in the offing. Now we can add yet another franchise installment to our ever-growing list of summer releases, as Mission: Impossible 5 has secured a July 31 release date.

In franchise terms, the three years between Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and upcoming sequel Mission: Impossible 5, is a whopping gap. Paramount Pictures and Skydance’s decision to wait until the perfect line-up was assembled is a gamble that seems to be paying off. As the follow-up continues its shoot, Variety has the news of another pawn added to the espionage mix: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy‘s Simon McBurney.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy and Tobey Maguire got together to bring their passion project to the big screen. That project is an untitled Warner Bros movie about illicit animated trafficking. The trio are on board to produce, but are also in talks to star. The movie is being compared to "Traffic" as it dissects the trafficking industry that exploits the global market for illicit parts from slain animals that are used as aphrodisiacs and other ridiculous purposes. The story will take place around the world, tracing supply and demand for animals slain, stripped and sold for fortunes in places like China. The characters range from corrupt executives, to poachers, to others involved in the underbelly of a global scourge that occurs not only in the jungles but also the oceans, where illegal shark fishing runs rampant. The film is written by Will Staples, who's best known for his work on...

Two years ago, we told you about a project teaming up Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy and Tobey Maguire as producers of a drama about animal trafficking for Warner Bros. The film was inspired by Hardy’s friends, former Special Forces operatives who went on to become anti-poaching fighters in South Africa and other nations where the problem ran rampant. Although that project is still in development with Hardy in the lead, Deadline reports the same three have signed with the same studio to produce another film about the same issue, and they may all star in this one. Scripted by Will Staples, so far best known for writing video games and the as-yet-unmade Mission: Impossible 5, the new project will follow a structure somewhat in the vein of Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic, as in it’s taking a multistory approach to the impact of animal poaching. The film will explore the heinous industry from every facet and angle...

The story explores the global market for illicit parts from slain animals. The characters range from the poachers, to the smugglers, to the buyers and dealers and more.
If this sounds familiar, it kind of is. This is the second project in development with the same subject matter spearheaded by Tom Hardy. Sheldon Turner ("Up in the Air") is penning the other one which Maguire and DiCaprio's companies are also producing.

It seems that screenwriter Will Staples is at his most comfortable writing male ensemble pieces. The former videogame scribe has an as-yet untested body of work that seems to feature groups of men in all kinds of dramatic scenarios. Aside from Mission Impossible 5, Ben Affleck has apparently tapped him to write a film about a team of mercenaries hunting a brutal warlord in Africa; director Gavin Hood is attached to direct Staples’ Alaskan adventure, featuring a team of 20 men, 200 sled dogs and a race against time; the currently titled King Of Heists is Staples’ adaptation of J. North Conway’s book about the biggest bank robbery in Us history. Indeed, it appears to be the case that, if you give him an interesting team of guys, Will Staples can deliver a fascinating dramatic premise. That is certainly the case with the latest project to be added to his slate – an animal trafficking story,...

Nearly two years ago, we heard about Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Tom Hardy teaming up to produce an animal trafficking drama, in the same vein as Steven Soderbergh's Traffic, that takes a dramatic from look at everything from the ground war on poachers in the African savanna to how animal material ends up in the fancy fashion houses of Paris. There's been no news since then, but now Deadline reports Mission: Impossible 5 writer Will Staples will script another untitled film set up at Warner Bros. about the same topic with Hardy, DiCaprio and Maguire still possibly taking roles in an ensemble cast. Staples previously worked writing video games like Call of Duty and Need for Speed, but he's hit Hollywood with a Black Listed script called King of Heists, which will star Jeremy Renner, and a project called Myth that will be produced by Transformers franchise producer...

One of those hot screenwriting names who's creating a buzz in Hollywood without yet having had one of his films released, Will Staples will follow Mission Impossible 5 with an unnamed project about animal poaching and trafficking. The film is being set up at Warner Bros. with a dream team of Tom Hardy, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire producing and possibly aiming to star.Staples got his start in videogames (Need For Speed: Rivals, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3), but hit the coveted Black List with his script King Of Heists, which currently has Jeremy Renner attached. He's also been at work on an action thriller for Ben Affleck and sci-fi adventure Myth for producer Lorenzeo Di Bonaventura. The poachers project is thought to be a multi-strand narrative along the lines of Traffic, with worldwide threads homing in on different aspects of the illegal animal trade: fur, aphrodisiacs, ivory and so on.

Alec Baldwin is in talks to star in Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible 5, along with Swedish up-and-comer Rebecca Ferguson.
In Mission: Impossible 5, written by Will Staples and Drew Pearce, Baldwin would play the head of the CIA, while Ferguson is set to play the female lead opposite Tom Cruise. The fifth installment also stars Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg in the respective roles.
The lead female role in the fifth film in the Mission: Impossible franchise was first offered to Jessica Chastain, but she passed on the offer. Ferguson seems like a solid replacement. She recently nabbed a Golden Globe nomination for her English-language debut in the title role of BBC’s The White Queen.
The pic is set to open in theaters on Christmas Day 2015.

It’s been three years since Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol hit theaters, but Tom Cruise’s latest starring vehicle, sci-fi actioner Edge of Tomorrow, was good enough that it actually got me thinking about the upcoming Mission: Impossible 5 for the first time in a good long while. Today, we’ve learned something about the upcoming fivequel that will no doubt excite the franchise’s British fans.
According to the sometimes-reliable British newspaper The Sun, Mission: Impossible 5 will be the first film that has ever been allowed to shoot scenes within the British Houses of Parliament. According to the newspaper:
“MI5 will feature numerous well-known locations in London but the Houses of Parliament is clearly the biggest coup. Tom Cruise will obviously feature heavily in the scenes. You can imagine the writers are excited about what stunts they could pull off inside the Commons.”

In an interview with Yahoo, Jeremy Renner confirms what we could have very easily assumed, that he will be returning as William Brandt in Mission: Impossible 5 for director Christopher McQuarrie with a script from Drew Pearce (Iron Man), which was then rewritten by Will Staples. For whatever reason the Yahoo interviewer asked Renner about the possibility of starring in "True Detective" to which he replied, "It's kind of unlikely. In fact, I'm kind of strapped time-wise doing Avengers 2, and Mission: Impossible 5 is rearing its head, and then they want to do another Bourne movie. It's unlikely I can find the time right now. And that's all right. It's just really high-class problems -- pretty awesome to have. Even if I really wanted to do it, which I don't, I couldn't." Renner will next be see in Kill the Messenger later this year and it sounds like on top...

Jeremy Renner has revealed in a new interview that he's pretty much set to reprise his role of William Brandt in the upcoming fifth "Mission: Impossible" film.
Renner played the role in 2011's "Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol," one of the four key team members in the film alongside Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton. Cruise and Pegg's return are already confirmed.
Renner, currently shooting "Avengers: Age of Ultron," was asked by Yahoo about the possibility of joining HBO's "True Detective" to which he responded that his busy movie schedule would prevent such an option:

Tom Cruise does not want to lose his staying power in Hollywood, hence why he keeps reliving in the past with Mission Impossible sequels. Now he is working on the fifth one and they are hoping to land a writer to put Tom back on top. It was just announced that Christopher McQuarrie would direct, but not write the movie. Instead they hired new comer to Hollywood, Will Staples. No word on why they hired Will to pen it over any well known writer for the project.
Tom hasn’t had much luck in the past 10 years of movies, so it seems like he has a lot of concerns for each project. It will be interesting to see how it pans out. Mission Impossible 5 could very be a mission impossible for success since Tom’s heydays are long gone now. It is cute that he is trying to recapture those moments,...

Briefly: Paramount Pictures has already slated Mission: Impossible 5 for release on December 25th, 2015, but the film is still sauntering towards production. Christopher McQuarrie is attached to direct the film with Tom Cruise still situated in the lead role as Ethan Hunt, and now the film has a new writer. Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce worked on the film previously, but now THR reports Paramount and Skydance Productions have hired Will Staples to work on a new draft. Staples is best known for writing the video games Need for Speed: Rivals and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but he has several film projects in development as well. Jessica Chastain was recently rumored for a role, but we'll see if that comes together.

Paramount Pictures just hired Will Staples to re-write the script for the fifth "Mission: Impossible" film. Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3), previously worked on the script, but that was before Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) signed on to direct. Staples' previous work has been mostly in video games. He worked on "Need for Speed: Rivals" and "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3." He's attached to several films in development, including "Blood and Treasure," a starring and directing project for Ben Affleck set up at Warner Bros. He also wrote "Myth" for Fox and the Jeremy Renner movie "King of Heists." "Mission: Impossible 5" will see Tom Cruise reprising his role as Ethan Hunt. It's scheduled to hit theaters on December 25th, 2015.

Mission: Impossible 5 currently has an Academy Award winning screenwriter sitting at its helm, as Christopher McQuarrie has been hired by Paramount Pictures and Skydance to direct Tom Cruise's next adventure as super spy Ethan Hunt, but sadly he won't be the one holding the pen for the project. Instead, the two studios - along with Cruise's production company - have now hired cinema-newcomer Will Staples to write the film's script. As The Hollywood Reporter mentions in their story, Iron Man 3 co-writer Drew Pearce was the first screenwriter to come aboard the project, having been hired last May, but that was back before McQuarrie signed on as Mission: Impossible 5's director. It's unclear if Staples is being brought on to simply rewrite the screenplay they've been developing, or if he will be starting from scratch and bringing his own originality to the mix. Instead, the trade report...

Call Of Duty and Need For Speed writer Will Staples is the latest to take a crack at Mission: Impossible 5
News
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol was a solid entry into the series, and went on to become the biggest grossing film of the Mission: Impossible franchise to date. Furthermore, it's also the biggest grossing film of Tom Cruise's career. At one stage, it was set to be the film that handed the lead in the Mission: Impossible films over from Tom Cruise to Jeremy Renner. The box office numbers, however, cemented Cruise's place in the Mi pecking order.
Paramount has already ordered Mission: Impossible 5, which it has now scheduled for December 2015. Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) wrote a script that was seemingly passed on, and then Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) came on board to direct. It's unclear how much of the Drew Pearce script remains intact.

Will Staples might be one hell of a writer, I don't know, but the idea of handing the fifth film in a major franchise to the guy most prominently known for writing the video games Need for Speed: Rivals and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 just seems like another piece of evidence proving Hollywood has given up when it comes to developing smart, character-driven blockbusters. Instead the goal is just big video game cut screens on the big screen so why not just hire the guy that writes them. Staples will rewrite Drew Pearce's original draft of Mission: Impossible 5. Pearce's big claim to fame is the Iron Man 3 screenplay, which gives good reason as to why it needs a little work, but how much work can Staples really doc Director Christopher McQuarrie is currently tweeting during his location scouts for the movie. Mission: Impossible 5 is still slated for a Christmas Day release in 2015, but there seem to be a few bumps in the road. The original script, which was drafted by Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce, will now be going through a complete re-write by Will Staples.
Staples has been attached to various scripts in the past – some of which were associated A-list talent like James Cameron and Ben Affleck (King of Heists, Myth, World’s Most Wanted), but none of them ever came to fruition. Instead, Staples’ most successful project – and possibly what made him a candidate for the job in the first place – is penning the script for video game behemoth Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

With director Christopher McQuarrie deep in location scouting and other necessary preparation required to shoulder the challenge of making Mission: Impossible 5, a new writer has been hired to work on the script for the new film. Relative film newcomer Will Staples is the man with the gig.Iron Man 3’s Drew Pearce kicked off the script, before handing over to McQuarrie when the latter came aboard to direct. Given his long-standing, close working relationship with star/producer Tom Cruise, McQuarrie has naturally given the screenplay his own particular polish even as he figures out the logistics of the new movie.Bringing Staples in would appear to be a way for the script to evolve while taking some of the workload off McQuarrie's shoulders. Staples has several screenplays in development, including a project for Ben Affleck to direct, the Jeremy Renner vehicle King Of Heists and a movie based on King Tut.
