In January 1990, a couple of months shy of his 41st birthday, Nick Lowe welcomed a BBC film crew into his suburban London row house for an interview. Lowe had a new album to promote, Party of One, but he’d been in the music business for two decades, first in the band Brinsley Schwarz, which wore its Americana influences on its sleeve but never made much of an impression outside the U.K. (or within, for that matter), and then as a house producer at a scrappy independent label called Stiff Records.

Refresh for updates During a Megyn Kelly Today discussion this morning about offensive Halloween costumes and blackface during trick or treat season – and if the mental alarm bells weren’t already going off, they should have been – the host who once insisted Santa Claus is white dug herself a Halloween social media grave.
“What is racist?” Kelly asked her panel of guests Jenna Bush Hager, MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff and Melissa Rivers. The quartet were discussing campus attempts to discourage “inappropriate and offensive costumes” during Halloween season when Kelly explained, “You do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface for Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween.”
“Back when I was a kid, that was okay just as long as you were dressing as a character,” Kelly said.
To make her point, Kelly recalled the Real Housewives controversy when Luann...

To err is human. To occasionally leave a really great singer stranded without a lifeline? Well, that’s just being a coach on The Voice.
Yes, folks, after two stellar episodes (and zero egregious errors) to kick off the show’s Season 3 Battle Rounds, Monday night’s two-hour telecast featured a couple of serious stumbles (if not full-on face-plants) by Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Adam Levine.
And even though I think it’s safe to say that no potential Voice champions were harmed in the scoring of tonight’s Battle Rounds, I’m nevertheless scratching my...

The 'evil genius' behind filthily comic cartoon Family Guy is not only turning his hand to an action film Ted, albeit starring a bear, but singing swing at this summer's BBC Proms in London
There are two wildly contrasting cultural dates in the diary this coming month that seem unlikely to attract the same crowd. One is the British release on Wednesday of a bawdy American comedy about a foul-mouthed soft toy called Ted and the other is a BBC Prom celebrating the swingin' music of the golden era of Hollywood and Broadway songwriting. And yet the star of these mismatched entertainments is one and the same man: Seth MacFarlane.
MacFarlane, who will sing at the Albert Hall on 27 August before keeping a second date at Ronnie Scott's, is to fly into London from his Beverly Hills home shortly after Ted, his directorial debut, opens in cinemas. His first solo album,...

Penny Smith bid a tearful farewell to viewers as she left 'GMTV' after 17 years on the sofa. The TV favourite was shown clips of her highlights on the breakfast show and broke down as she was serenaded by singer Curtis Stigers - who she had performed with on BBC's 'Just the Two of Us'. A few years ago, Seth listed -- in our second-ever installment of Pajiba's Guide to What's Good for You -- the greatest television theme songs of all time. It was a list I almost wholly agreed with. But I do have to concede -- and I think others would, too -- that a lot of those TV theme songs, particularly from the 1980s and '90s, were great for nostalgia's sake. I don't think many of them -- save for the "Cheers" theme -- would fly today. You know: Alan Thicke used to write a lot of television theme songs ("Diff'rent Strokes," "The Facts of LIfe") and the thing about those great cheesy theme songs was that they were not that dissimilar to advertising jingles. "Who's the Boss?," "Growing Pains," "Family Ties"? They were homey little numbers that kind of crawled inside your head and camped out for days. The...
