It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since David Bowie‘s death. It hurts for many reasons, but if there’s any solace to glean from the loss, it’s that Bowie has been properly mourned. Not just among civilians — you’d be hard-pressed to find an artist who didn’t turn in a Bowie cover at some point. Here are some of our favorites from the past year, ranging from deep cuts to the obvious ones.

[[tmz:video id="0_kmc50vyw"]] Here's video of the moment Def Leppard had to think their cruise was cursed -- when the host broke the news one of the rockers on board had died. The deceased was Jimmy Bain, the famed bassist for classic metal groups Dio and Rainbow. He was on the cruise to perform with his new group, Last in Line ... but they never took the stage. Bain's rumored to have died from pneumonia, but his official cause...

Long-time Grass Valley, California resident (Norman Eugene) Clint Walker starred in the iconic television western Cheyenne from 1955-1963. This was the golden era of TV westerns, with dozens of similar shows airing around the same time.
Like their big screen counterparts, TV cowboys were usually handsome, brave, resourceful and of course good with a gun. However, there was something a bit different about the Cheyenne Bodie character as Walker portrayed him. He fit the genre all right. A big, handsome man built like an oak tree (6’6”, 48-inch chest, 32-inch waist), he rode easy in the saddle and looked better than almost anybody in a Stetson and boots. Men who doubted his resolve always ended up regretting it. Ladies looked his way. Still, despite never violating the conventions of the formula, Walker somehow managed to make the sum of his character add up to more than its parts.

Gene Simmons could soon be playing the role of his lifetime: A god. The Kiss singer and bassist is currently shopping around a music competition show called Coliseum, on which competitors form bands and perform for a panel of three judges. They also mix and match group members until finding the right combination until Simmons, the show's "Rock Caesar," gives a thumbs up to the winning combination. "If you've got the goods, I will be the god that will make your dreams come true, because I do have the power,...

Now that the Kiss Army has gotten its due and their heavy metal heroes will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame tonight at Brooklyn's Barclays Center (along with Nirvana, Cat Stevens, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Linda Ronstadt, and Peter Gabriel), here are 10 more acts that are definitely worthy of inclusion. Some have been nominated numerous times (like Chic) and never gotten voted in, while others, as impossible as it seems, have never even made it onto the ballot. These 10 are presented in alphabetical order: Bon Jovi: Say what you will and there are just as many people vying to keep Bon Jovi out as are fighting to get them in (if not more), but after Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi is the biggest musical act to come out of New Jersey. Bon Jovi, who was on the ballot in 2012, has dominated the world for...

Here's the second part of our awesome interview with Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott -- and it's just as fascinating (and longer, natch) than the first. I recommend listening to part one, then part two. But either way, we had fun and hope you will, too! Here's the rundown: :50 Def Leppard's worst tour pairing - Blackfoot, but don't worry. They're pals! 3:25 His favorite song to perform? "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is a fan favorite... 5:03… but he has a personal favorite, too 5:56 But he never wants to sing "Make Love Like A Man" again. He does not love it, people 7:30 Why they've been together so long 11:35 Learning about failure from Ian Hunter 12:30 He knew he could be a musician for life, and it's a gift 15:07 Hearing the Osmonds on Klos -- and meeting the greats 16:26 One Direction doesn't get it...

Hanging out over coffee with Def Leppard lead singer Joe Elliott at the legendary rock 'n' roll hotel Sunset Marquis was already a great start to our morning -- what made it even better was Elliott himself. Laid-back, charming and happy to riff on any subject we lobbed at him, he talked candidly about rocking out after fifty, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Def Leppard's upcoming tour with Kiss, and plenty more. Given how much we loved talking to his band mate Phil Collen, how can we decide which member of the band was a better guest? We can't and yeah, no reason to do it. They're both awesome -- and Elliott had so much to say, we couldn't bring ourselves to cut him off for some arbitrary time limit. Thus, you get part one and part two of our chat with him (part two will be next week). You're welcome.

After a long campaign waged by their fans, Kiss will finally be inducted into the Rock & Roll of Fame this spring. While Def Leppard lead singer Joe Elliott is happy for Kiss, with whom his group will tour this summer, don’t expect for him to care one iota whether he and his band mates ever make it into the hallowed halls. My colleague, Liane Bonin Starr, and I taped our CulturePop podcast with Elliott this week and he was so expansive on so many topics that we’re breaking the podcast into two parts: Part 1 will be posted next week and Part 2, the week after, but we couldn’t wait to put up his thoughts on the Cleveland-based Rock Hall. First off, like a lot of us, he’s wondering exactly which acts get in and why, but he knows for sure it’s not the fans (although the...

New York (AP) — Kiss and Def Leppard are joining forces for a summer tour. The legendary bands will embark on a U.S. tour June 23 in West Valley City, Utah. They will play more than 40 dates, including Los Angeles; Austin, Texas; Nashville, Tenn.; Atlanta; and Tampa, Fla. The tour wraps Aug. 31 in Woodlands, Texas. Tickets go on sale Friday. "You have two bands who to one degree or another have stood the test of time and put them together and you'll have a great night of music," said Paul Stanley of Kiss in an interview. "We're living in a time now where everyone wants more for their money, and that's understandable. So, when you can get two bands to collaborate together, we couldn't pick a better band for this tour than Def Leppard to go out with us." Def Leppard's Joe Elliott said it's not likely the two bands will perform together.

Not since Jesus Christ turned water into wine has there been as miraculous an upgrade as what we saw during the first set of Battle Rounds on Season 3 of The Voice.
What once was an exercise in frustration — watching the coaches pair up their team members in head-to-head sing-offs, then too often sending the wrong contestants home — became something that was equal parts thrilling and satisfying with the addition of “The Steal,” in which competing coaches can hit a button and add a total of two Battle Rounds losers to their teams before the live shows begin.

New music and new versions of its old hits are marking Def Leppard's recording plans these days. With newly recorded "forgeries" of "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and "Rock of Ages" now available, the quintet has begun a series of re-recordings of its catalog material and "wrestled control of our career back" from the Universal Music Group, which frontman Joe Elliott says the band refuses to deal with "until we come up with some kind of arrangement" over compensation, especially for digital downloads. When 1980s jukebox musical "Rock of Ages" opens this weekend, it'll answer the question that has bedeviled moviegoers worldwide for three decades: Can Tom Cruise actually sing? For what it's worth, "Ages" director Adam Shankman says he can (and without Autotune or other electronic fudging). Tom's rendition of Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me" has been praised by no less than Leppard frontman Joe Elliott, who was on the set when Cruise performed it. Today, viewers will find out for themselves whether Cruise can really rock, or whether he belongs on the list of movie actors who stretched too far in trying to impress filmgoers with their golden throats. It's the kind of stretch that even some top thespians haven't been able to pull off, as you'll see in this list of 20 films featuring horrifyingly grating (or unexpectedly good) singing performances by actors not known for their vocal skills.

Def Leppard has no shame.
When it comes to riding the fur-covered, animal print-lined coattails of Rock of Ages, the big-screen musical opening Friday about love and hair bands in the 1980s, the group isn't shying away from commandeering some of the film's spotlight to remind everyone they're still around, and they're still rockin'. Rock of Ages was, after all, the title of a Def Leppard hit long before it was a Broadway musical.
The British band - lead singer Joe Elliott, bassist Rick Savage, drummer Rick Allen and guitarists Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell - re-recorded two of their songs that appear in the film, and they're teaming up with Poison and Lita Ford for a summer tour kicking off June 20 in Salt Lake City.

Def Leppard have given their stamp of approval for Tom Cruise's performance in Rock of Ages. The actor plays rock band leader Stacee Jaxx in the musical, which includes him singing a cover of the band's 'Pour Some Sugar on Me'. The British band - consisting of lead singer Joe Elliott, bassist Rick Savage, drummer Rick Allen and guitarists Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell - revealed their surprise at Cruise's singing ability when they visited the set. "We were fortune enough to check his filming out of that particular performance because we were both in Florida at the same time," Savage told The AP. "We just had to get there as he was shooting some of the scenes. That was special in itself, just getting to meet the man. His voice was good." "It was pretty surreal, actually," added Elliott. Tom Cruise will be the first to admit that he isn't a singer, but his years in glee club at least taught him a thing or two about holding a note.

Tom Cruise was wracked with nerves shooting his first scene for new movie Rock Of Ages because he had to sing a Def Leppard track in front of the band.
The Hollywood actor takes on the lead role of rock star Stacee Jaxx in the upcoming big screen adaptation of the popular stage musical, which features a number of classic hits including Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar on Me.
Cruise has now revealed his rendition of the British band's song was the first scene he shot for the film, and he had to do it with the stars of Def Leppard watching on set.
He tells Playboy Magazine, "I was down in Miami, recording different songs, and Adam (director Adam Shankman) called and said, 'Def Leppard's coming by the set.' I said, 'Man, that's cool'. Then I paused. 'Wait, I'm rehearsing their song tomorrow.' And he's like, 'Yeah!'... So we started right in the deep end, and that was the first scene I shot in the movie. It's a great song, and I grew up listening to them... All the crew was watching them watching me...
"The lead singer, Joe Elliott, points at me and goes, 'F**k you! F**k you!' Then I saw big smiles on their faces, and I realised I'd gotten their stamp. It was a very cool moment. It was important they knew I was honouring their music and not making fun of them."...

It may be something to do with his extraordinary stage moniker – somehow redolent of Goliath and Job – that Bruce Campbell aka Jobriath has maintained a tenuous foothold in pop culture, somehow remaining a name to conjure with, unlike the legions of has-beens and never-wases who litter the rock'n'roll stage. Of course, Jobriath was something special, even by the standards of rock loserdom: hyped to the max in 1974, signed – apparently – to a massive contract, given a billboard in Times Square for his debut album, and then promptly became an epic commercial disaster.
Jobriath was swiftly relegated to a footnote after punk rock detonated in the mid 70s, mostly for intrigued David Bowie fans mildly insulted by such an apparently flagrant act of copyism. (At least, that's how it looked to the likes of me, a decade or so later.) But give any act long enough,...

HollywoodNews.com: Kanye West has reportedly fallen out with Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott. The musician was allegedly called a ‘stupid dumb rapper’ by Elliott, 51, and he is said to be unimpressed with the comments.
A source said to UK newspaper Daily Mirror: “Kanye has thrown out any Def Leppard vinyls and has told his people he refuses to be in any award shows where they are present.”
A friend added: “Kanye could get him back in a no-hold-barred rap instead.” West, 33, recently made headlines when he chose to follow just one person on Twitter – a man from Coventry who was not fussed about being ‘the chosen one’.

Def Leppard star Joe Elliott has accused the music press of failing to give rock bands due credit - insisting his group deserves the same respect as stars such as Bono, Sir Paul McCartney and Morrissey. The singer claims music journalists fawn over big name stars such as the U2 frontman and the former The Beatles bassist, but often ridicule his band even though they have enjoyed comparable success.
And Elliott can't understand why Def Leppard aren't considered "cool". He tells Britain's Metro, "We don't get the credit we deserve in Britain... It's nice to walk down Oxford Street without being recognized but then again when music magazines write about us they take the p**s (ridicule us) because we're not as cool as Johnny Marr, who isn't as successful as us by a million miles. (British TV host) Jools Holland won't have us on his show because we're not cool enough.

(British TV host) Jools Holland won't have us on his show because we're not cool enough.

Rockers Def Leppard have confirmed they are taking a one-year hiatus because life in the band has become so "stressful". The "Hysteria" hitmakers prompted rumors of a split late last year when they canceled 23 dates on their North American tour, citing "unforeseen personal matters".
Frontman Joe Elliott later revealed they axed the tour so he could fly home to be with his pregnant wife ahead of the birth of their first child. And now the singer has confirmed the band is not planning to work together for at least another year because they all need some time to recuperate and focus on other projects.
He tells Britain's Metro, "We're taking a year off. I'm doing this (new band Down 'N Outz) because I have the time. After you have a hit like Hysteria and you're signed to the corporate machine it becomes an albatross around your neck. As much as...

Def Leppard star Joe Elliott is in talks with the founding members of Thin Lizzy to re-record the late Phil Lynott's vocals for a new project. Guitarist Scott Gorham insists he's keen to remaster and remix two or three of the band's classic albums and he wants Elliott to join the band for the sessions.
He tells Guitarist magazine, "I've been talking to the guys (executives) at Universal (about a) deluxe album where you get the original (album) remastered and the second disc will either be the whole album remixed or tracks cherry-picked off for that treatment."
"I'm actually talking to Joe Elliott about going into his studio and doing it there in Dublin. We've been talking about that for a few years and now Universal is on board; it's now a matter of finalizing all the costs to do it."
"We want to get in this year and start the remixes.

Rockers Def Leppard have laughed off speculation of a split, insisting they couldn't "imagine doing anything else" if they ditched the band. The "Hysteria" hitmakers prompted rumors of a break-up in October 2009 after they canceled 23 dates on their North American tour, citing "unforeseen personal matters", and failed to reschedule the gigs.
But singer Joe Elliott insists the trek was only canceled so he could tend to his wife Kristine, who was expecting their first child. He tells TheStar.co.uk, "There wasn't any mystery to it really. My wife was pregnant and needed a bit of attention from me, which she wasn't getting. There was a lot of things (sic) in our private lives that needed attending to. We're not splitting. Not at all. We often joke, what else would we do? You just can't imagine doing anything else."
The 50 year old became a dad earlier this year.
