Kraven the Hunter is seeking new hunting grounds, with the Aaron Taylor-Johnson starrer taking a release date just vacated by The Karate Kid.

Kraven steps into a date that was occupied by fellow Sony pic The Karate Kid, a crossover event movie starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan. Karate Kid now moves to May 30, 2025.
The move comes after the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai, the Netflix spinoff starring Machio as his original Karate Kid movie character Daniel Larusso, was delayed due to last year’s actors strike. Sony pushed the new Karate Kid to allow it to follow Cobra Kai‘s final season, with the summer date also seen as friendly for the all-ages audience its intended for. Heatseeking filmmaker Olmo Schnabel has signed for representation with WME, and with Black Bear for management.
Schnabel’s breakout directorial effort “Pet Shop Days” played both the Venice International Film Festival and SXSW this cycle, scoring distribution from Utopia for a 2024 theatrical release. Starring Jack Irv, Darío Yazbek Bernal, Willem Dafoe and Peter Sarsgaard, the film tells of a drug lord scion on the run from his powerful family. Slumming it in New York in a haze of sex and drugs, he seduces an equally lost young man and pulls him into the city’s underbelly.
The provocative debut also hit festivals in Chicago, Montclair, Morelia, Santa Barbara and Sarasota. Schnabel was also awarded the Leffest Lisboa Film Festival’s Tap Revelation Award.

[Editor’s note: This list was originally published in 2017. It has since been updated many times.]
With everything going the way it is in the world right now, we’re laughing to keep less cheery emotions at bay. At least this bizarre, still-very-much-in-progress century has already produced a slew of spectacular, silly, snarky, and cynical comedies: ready to fire up whenever you need a serotonin burst or distraction thanks to the ever-growing cadre of streaming services.
The pandemic may be in the rearview for the U.S. federal government, but the specter of war, a tortured economy, and human rights issues across the globe have occupied the minds of many instead. So, in desperate need of some humor, we thought it was more important than ever to give our Greatest Comedies of the 21st Century list, originally published in 2017, yet another rethink. Since the list was originally published, we’ve expanded it to 90 entries, including titles released since then that deserved including and other titles we somehow overlooked the first time.

Riverdale stars Camila Mendes, Lili Reinhart and Madelaine Petsch (Picture Credit: Instagram)
It has been six months since Riverdale ended. The CW supernatural teenage show had quite a long run of seven seasons. From romance to murder mystery to horror elements, the series had everything. Based on Archie Comics, the show stars Lili Reinhart, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, Kj Apa, Madelaine Petsch, Vanessa Morgan, Casey Cott and others.
Riverdale’s storyline always perplexed the audience. Sometimes, it made sense, and most of the time, none of it made sense. However, the show gave us unique talents and solid friendships. Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes and Madelaine Petsch are one such trio who became good friends on the sets. The ladies often shared beautiful pictures and cool TikTok videos.
So, has anything changed ever since the show ended? Did their friendship change, and is the cast still connected via group chat? Camila has answered these burning questions.

Rachel Sennott and The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri are excellent as gay teens who set up a fight club in order to win the affections of their school cheerleaders
There are a lot of laughs, a great deal of delirious silliness and what I must insist is a cinephile reference to Orson Welles’s Touch of Evil in this very funny high-school comedy from director Emma Seligman, and starring her co-writer Rachel Sennott, who last worked together on Seligman’s debut feature Shiva Baby. Bottoms is about two gay teen girls and bickering best friends who want to get some sexual experience and it all plays like a moderately scuffed-up and entirely non-heterosexual version of Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart – though no one in this film shows the smallest interest in books, certainly not the teachers.

FX released the official trailer for “American Horror Stories” Season 3, the spin-off of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s anthology series “American Horror Story.” The spin-off features a different horror story in each episode.
The trailer revealed that “Real Housewives” alum Lisa Rinna will star in the “Tapeworm” episode of Season 3, which premieres Oct. 26. The official logline for that installment reads, “An up-and-coming model will stop at nothing in her hunger for success.” The episode was written by Joe Baken and directed by Alexis Martin Woodall.
“Smize for the camera, sweetie,” Rinna’s character says in the trailer. She later responds to a young patient’s concern about a monster inside of her with the question, “But are you hungry?”
Alongside Rinna, the “Tapeworm” cast includes Laura Kariuki, Hazel Graye and Rob Yang.
From the trailer, it looks like Yang prescribes Kariuki’s model a tapeworm to help her lose weight for her modeling career.

Though she’d dreamed of owning a Spanish Revival home, there was something about the boxy, modern house that Anonymous Content manager Meredith Rothman couldn’t shake. Maybe it was the floor-to-ceiling windows. Or the abundance of natural light. Or the fact that it was tucked neatly into a canyon in Beverly Hills, conjuring up memories of her childhood home in Bel Air. Rothman asked interior designer Lauren Waters for her thoughts. “I assured her it was a wonderful blank canvas for intriguing furniture and great art,” says Waters.
That advice sealed the deal for Rothman, who tasked Waters with transforming the 2,500-square-foot spec house into a home that would serve as space to unwind, enable her to host the occasional soiree and showcase her burgeoning art collection, which includes works by Analia Saban and John Baldessari, as well as a charcoal drawing by her grandmother Luddie Waters, who was...

The world of “Bottoms” isn’t always the most coherent (better not to apply any logic to why a high school football mascot has a felt dick); but being a teenager isn’t the most rational experience. One of the film’s great strengths is how director and co-writer Emma Seligman creates a flexible reality for the world of its perennial losers Pj (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri). The two heroes start a self defense club in an effort to get laid, and what starts as a hilariously thin ruse culminates with in the girls punching, kicking, and pounding a rival football team to death in order to save doofy jock Jeff (Nicholas Galitzine) from sprinklers filled with pineapple juice.
“It was like ‘Scott Pilgrim’ in a John Hughes world,” said Seligman when they were a guest on IndieWire’ Filmmaker Toolkit podcast.

One of the downright hilarious comedy films of the year so far is Bottoms, filmmaker Emma Seligman’s teen sex romp about a pair of lesbian high school pals, Pj (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri), who have never done the deed — and are desperate to. Pj and Josie have the hots for popular girls Brittany (Kaia Gerber) and Isabel (Havana Rose Liu) respectively, and so, they decide to start an all-female fight club in an effort to get laid. You’ll probably recognize at least one of the famous faces in the ensemble cast, whether it be “The Bear” star Ayo Edebiri, “Red White & Royal Blue” star Nicholas Galitzine or “Shiva Baby” breakout Rachel Sennott. Sennott and Seligman previously worked together on “Shiva Baby,” and the pair co-wrote the screenplay for “Bottoms.”
The film released in limited theaters Aug. 25 in Los Angeles, New York, Austin and San Francisco. The Alamo Drafthouse cinemas, arthouses and AMC screens showed the film its opening weekend. The combination of limited screens and lack of streaming makes for tricky navigation of how to watch “Bottoms,” but we’ve got you covered in the meantime before it eventually lands somewhere to stream.

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for “Bottoms,” a dark comedy parody of the high school caste system, featuring jocks, cheerleaders, freaks and geeks, directed and co-wrttien by Emma Seligman (“Shiva Baby”). In theaters since August 25th.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
The story focuses on best pals Pj and Josie (Ayo Edebiri of “The Bear”). They like girls, and they especially like the girls on their high school cheerleading squad. Looking for an opportunity to break into that impenetrable clique, they start a fight club as an extracurricular activity. As the group begins to come together, the cheerleader Isabel (Havana Rose Liu) begins a crush on Josie, and the club find themselves battling the school’s alpha quarterback, Jeff (Nicholas Galitzine). There seems to be a transition happening in this high school.
”‘Bottoms” in theaters since August 25th. Featuring Rachel Sennott, Ayo Edebiri, Ruby Cruz, Nicholas Galitzine, Havana Rose Liu and Marshawn Lynch.

One of the final comedy films of the summer has arrived — Emma Seligman’s “Bottoms” (2023). Co-written by Seligman, who directs, and Rachel Sennott, who stars as one of the main characters, the queer comedy film watches two unpopular teens plot a way to win over their popular crushes. They ultimately decide that a fight club is the best way to do this.
The antics of the Rockbridge Falls football team take a subplot to this main thread, until, of course, the two leading players realize what the club scheme is really all about. Some other conflicts of interest arise as the film goes on.
Here are the cast and characters of “Bottoms”:
Rachel Sennott as Pj in “Bottoms”
Pj (Rachel Sennott)
Pj, who loves overalls and suspenders, has a huge crush on Brittany (Kaia Gerber), and her hopeless romanticism combined with her refusal to quit leads her to take this crush to extreme lengths.

“Bottoms” might just be unlike anything you’ve seen before — and that’s by design.
Writer-director Emma Seligman pulled inspiration from left-of-center cult classics like “Jawbreaker” and “Wet Hot American Summer” for the Orion Pictures release, resulting in a fearless, hard-r absurdist sex comedy that’s at once violent, cringey and heartfelt — and feels boundary pushing.
Refreshingly, it doesn’t spend a minute second-guessing what it is, but Seligman admitted that’s only after tirelessly calibrating its tone with cowriter and star (and previous “Shiva Baby” collaborator) Rachel Sennott.
“That was the hardest thing about making this movie,” Seligman told TheWrap of striking the tonal balance of “Bottoms.” “Making a lot of movies, tone is really tricky to achieve — especially with a comedy — in terms of navigating how much you care about the characters, or how much emotion there should be. From writing it up until literally editing it, [we were] trying...

Emma Seligman’s Shiva Baby drew from the well of modern cringe comedies to tell its story of a pressure cooker of a shiva. That setting lent the film authenticity, keeping it firmly grounded in a recognizable reality. So it’s all the more surprising that Seligman’s follow-up, Bottoms, is a far more silly, over-the-top affair, but the film’s unique blend of deadpan and absurdist humor, and its tendency to occasionally push the boundaries of good taste, shows that Seligman is equally comfortable working at the opposite end of the comic spectrum.

‘Bottoms’ Review: Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri Burst With Female Rage in Punchy High School Comedy
If high school is perpetual pain then no one seems to be feeling the agony more acutely than P.J. (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri of “The Bear”), the underdog protagonists of Emma Seligman’s madcap, raunchy teen comedy, “Bottoms.”
Indeed, these best-friends-for-life never seemed to have found a trusted clique of their own. And they can’t really blame their unpopularity on their sexual orientation as lesbians, either. Not when the well-liked and popular gay kids get high-fived in the hallways by their straight classmates for putting on stupendous musical theater shows. In their own words, P.J and Josie are ostracized and bullied not because they are gay, but because they are “gay, untalented and ugly.”
Not the right combo of qualities that will get them laid with the members of the cheerleading squad, particularly their respective crushes Brittany (Kaia Gerber) and Isabel (Havana Rose Liu). So...

Bottoms is bloody good fun. In the high school sex comedy, which premiered at SXSW, two lesbian students — played by Rachel Sennott (The Idol) and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) — are so eager to lose their virginity that they start an after-school fight club, all in the hopes of seducing cheerleaders. Due out Aug. 25 from Orion Pictures and MGM, the raucous movie is director Emma Seligman’s follow-up to her Independent Spirit Award-winning debut, Shiva Baby, in which Sennott (who co-wrote Bottoms) played a bisexual Jewish woman who attends a shiva where both her ex-girlfriend and current sugar daddy are present. Seligman, who uses she and they pronouns, spoke with THR about making the film, her own identity and her thoughts on authentic casting for LGBTQ roles.

“Welcome to our fucking fight club,” Rachel Sennott’s character says in the trailer for Bottoms, setting the tone for Emma Seligman’s new sex comedy film, due in theaters this August. Watch the full trailer below.
Following Sennott and Ayo Edebiri as two gay seniors in high school who start a fight club to teach girls self-defense — and to hook up with them — Bottoms sells itself as a raunchy, irreverent, coming-of-age comedy. The trailer begins with Sennott and Edebiri getting in trouble with their principal, and then shows the duo as they get out of their pickle by founding the fight club with the help of their club sponsor, Mr. G (portrayed by retired running back Marshawn Lynch).
Featuring quotes from Rolling Stone and other publications about how the film is the “horniest” and “bloodiest” release of recent memory, the trailer certainly delivers punchlines, blood splatters, and sexual jokes galore.

Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri are literally fighting for a chance to find love at their high school in the first full trailer for the forthcoming comedy Bottoms.
Director Emma Seligman’s feature focuses on Pj (Sennott) and Josie (Edebiri), who start a fight club in an unconventional effort to lose their virginities to two popular cheerleaders. The MGM film hits theaters Aug. 25 after premiering at South by Southwest in March, and its cast includes Kaia Gerber, Havana Rose Liu, Nicholas Galitzine, Dagmara Domińczyk and Marshawn Lynch.
“We teach a bunch of girls how to defend themselves,” Sennott explains to Edebiri in the trailer. “They are grateful to us. Adrenaline is flowing. Next thing you know, Isabel and Brittany are kissing us on the mouths!”
Later in the footage, Edebiri offers words of praise for their fellow schoolmates. “They deserve a shot at showing everybody how fucking cool they are,...

“Shiva Baby” director Emma Seligman is back with her follow-up feature, “Bottoms” and it looks to be a bloody good time. Seligman reteams with Rachel Sennott, who also co-wrote the film, as well as “The Bear” star Ayo Edebiri for a story of two unpopular high school girls who start a school fight club in order to lose their virginity before graduation.
Similar to the road trip comedy “Joy Ride,” coming out in July, the explicit trailer for “Bottoms” revels in not just the blood of a fight club, but the irreverent, crass humor that no doubt will get audiences invested. The cringe humor is also on full display, with the trailer culminating with Edebiri and Sennott having to tell their high school teacher, played hilariously by Marshawn Lynch, that he shouldn’t discuss sexual matters with teenage girls at school.

Yes this looks like one of the craziest, raunchiest, wildest high school comedies since Superbad. Looks like a new classic is about unleash in a few months!

There have been countless films about teen underdogs trying to get revenge against bullies. But “Bottoms” seems to be taking that concept and adapting it in a very 2023 sort of way.
As seen in the trailer for “Bottoms,” the film follows the story of two queer teens who are being bullied by the jocks at their high school. In an attempt to get back at them (while also scoring possible sex in the process), the two girls form a pseudo-fight club in their school and train a group of outcasts in the ways of self-defense.

In a nod to David Fincher’s “Fight Club,” “Bottoms” follows two queer teen girls who start a fight club with a plan to lose their virginities to cheerleaders. A women’s self-defense club in a heightened toxic heterosexual high school? Welcome to “Bottoms.”
Rachel Sennott co-wrote the high school comedy with “Shiva Baby” director Emma Seligman. Sennott plays queer teen Pj opposite “The Bear” breakout Ayo Edebiri, who portrays Pj’s childhood bestie Josie. The duo lust after their respective crushes, Isabel (Havana Rose Liu) and Brittany (Kaia Gerber), while trying to navigate teendom in the shadow of quarterback Jeff (Nicholas Galitzine) and his cronie, teammate Tim (Miles Fowler).
Pj and Josie accidentally found a female fight club, co-run by misfit outcast Hazel (Ruby Cruz), with the hopes to befriend (and hook up) with cheerleaders under the guise of feminism. Marshawn Lynch, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Punkie Johnson also star in the highly anticipated, R-rated summer comedy.

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of this year, which is why we have it listed on our Summer Horror Movie Preview… but we’re going to have to remove it from that list, because Sony has (according to Yahoo) decided to delay the release an entire year. They Listen is now set to reach theatres on August 30, 2024.
They Listen is coming to us from Sony, Blumhouse, and Depth of Field. Weitz is producing the film with Jason Blum and Andrew Miano. Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings, and Paul Davis serve as executive producers. Filming was already underway in Los Angeles back in December, so this movie is going to be complete and sitting on a shelf a while before its new release date rolls around next year.
All details about They Listen are being kept under wraps.

“I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike,” Barrymore said in a statement to press. “Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television is born out of their creation. And until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait but I’ll be...

Drew Barrymore is stepping down as host of this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, in a show of support and solidarity to the striking Writers Guild members. But as a sign of good faith to MTV, Barrymore has also agreed to return and host next year’s edition of the kudocast instead.
Sunday night’s MTV Movie & TV Awards will still continue, but will now go hostless. The state of the show is still evolving day-by-day, as producers pivot to their strike contingency plans and wait and see who among their presenters, nominees and guests are still willing and able to appear on the telecast. As another nod to the evolving news, there will no longer be a red carpet or talent interviews before the show.

The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, which is slated to air live this Sunday from Santa Monica’s Barker Hanger with host Drew Barrymore, will move forward even as a writers strike is now underway. Because it’s live, the kudocast will likely be the first program noticeably impacted by a strike, although insiders close to the show tell Variety they already had multiple contingency plans in place in case.
“We are all collectively hoping for the best, we’re hoping for a resolution so that the show can continue on as planned,” one production source told Variety on Monday, prior to the WGA contract expiration and announcement of a strike. “Should we need to pivot, we will. We are working through our contingency plans. This is something that we have been discussing for for quite some time. So we are hard at work. These are very busy hours and days for us…...

Fox Entertainment has greenlit “Rescue: Hi-Surf,” a Hawaiian lifeguard drama from “Shameless” producer John Wells and “Outsiders” writer Matt Kester. The series will be co-produced by Warner Bros. Television and is set to debut sometime in the 2023-2024 season.
According to the official synopsis from Fox, “‘Rescue: Hi Surf’ is an action-packed drama that follows the personal and professional lives of the heavy-water lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of O’ahu—the most famous and dangerous stretch of coastline in the world.”
“Each episode will feature these dedicated, heroic, and adrenaline-seeking first-responders saving lives in the difficult and often life-threatening conditions of Hawaii’s Seven Mile Miracle.” Kester will write the first episode with Wells directing the first two episodes.
“I’ve lived on the North Shore of O‘ahu for most of my life, and these are our heroes, the most extraordinary extreme athletes anywhere,” said Kester.
