Dylan Dreyer recalled the moment that had her “in tears” during her appearance at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions golf competition.
The Today meteorologist and anchor was among the celebrity guests invited to play in the event.
Her husband, cameraman Brian Finchera, joined her, as both are avid golfers.
Other participants in the tournament included actor Alfonso Ribeiro, former NBA star Ray Allen, former NFL player Emmitt Smith, and baseball great Albert Pujols.
While there, Dreyer discussed her career future, teasing she will take on a more prominent role with Today once her colleague, Al Roker, retires.
However, she also had a moment on the golf course when she reflected on losing another friend.

The unmistakable 30 Rock theme song is getting new life for charity.
Creator and star Tina Fey and her husband Jeff Richmond, a key member of the creative team who composed the music and directed multiple episodes, are teaming with nonprofit art studio Soundwaves Art Foundation as a fundraiser for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. The duo autographed a limited edition set of canvases created from the actual sound waves of Richmond’s theme song.
Artist and Soundwaves founder Tim Wakefield created the pieces by running the song through a multimedia art process using layered snippets from the resulting sound wave images. He then collaborated with Fey and Richmond to color and distort the design into the final images.
The artwork is made by artist Tim Wakefield, founder of Soundwaves Art Foundation
The couple put their autographs on a limited edition of 100 prints and four one-of-a-kind original artworks from their home in Manhattan.

Wakefield won World Series titles with the Red Sox in 2004 and 2007.
Beloved former Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield died at the age of 57, the team announced on Sunday.
The knuckleballer spent 29 years with the organization as a player, special assistant and broadcaster.
Wakefield’s health challenges came to light last week.
“Tim’s kindness and indomitable spirit were as legendary as his knuckleball,” Red Sox principal owner John Henry said in a statement. “He not only captivated us on the field but was the rare athlete whose legacy extended beyond the record books to the countless lives he touched with his warmth and genuine spirit. He had a remarkable ability to uplift, inspire, and connect with others in a way that showed us the true definition of greatness. Tim Wakefield, one of the few knuckleball pitchers in recent times and a two-time World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox, has died at 57. Earlier this week, news broke that he was suffering from brain cancer.
“Our hearts are broken with the loss of Tim Wakefield,” the Red Sox said today. “Wake embodied true goodness; a devoted husband, father and teammate, beloved broadcaster, and the ultimate community leader. He gave so much to the game and all of Red Sox Nation. Our deepest love and thoughts are with Stacy, Trevor, Brianna, and the Wakefield family.”
The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Wakefield in the eighth round of the 1988 MLB Draft. Four years later, he debuted, appearing in 13 games and carving a 2.15 Era with 51 strikeouts. He then put together 59 strikeouts in the 1993 season.

If an underdog could be said to exist in the contained world of baseball, it wouldn't be one particular team but rather a group of players viewed by many as flukes and by most of the baseball world as something of an unpredictable freakshow: knuckleball pitchers. Directors Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg's compelling documentary Knuckleball! tells the story of both the New York Mets' R.A. Dickey and the Boston Red Sox's Tim Wakefield and how they came into their own as knuckleball pitchers, but it maintains this unfortunately narrow view without ever really expounding on the physics behind the knuckleball or explaining what makes it such a devilish pitch to hit. It's insistence to just focus on the stories of modern baseball's two greatest knuckleballers creates a strong and poignant narrative, but it feels unfortunately stunted in its offerings for anyone who wants to know about the knuckleball...

New On DVD And Blu-Ray: April 2, 2013 Pick Of The Week: New Knuckleball (Mpi) The mystique of the knuckleball goes hand-in-glove with the stigma: It’s considered the pitch of last resort for broken-down hurlers or aging position players still clinging to the majors, yet those who master its dark magic are unhittable when it’s on. The charming documentary Knuckleball gathers knuckleballers past and present—including old-timers Phil Niekro and Charlie Hough, and modern superstars R.A. Dickey and Tim Wakefield—and discovers a fraternity of outsiders who have long shared secrets and cherished a pitch that’s ...

In the last year, New York Mets starting pitcher R.A. Dickey climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, released a memoir ("Wherever I Wind Up"), became the first pitcher in 24 years to throw consecutive one-hitters, was the focus of an acclaimed documentary, and, just last week, won the 2012 National League Cy Young award. The 38-year-old shows no signs of slowing down either: In 2013, Dickey will release a children's book, likely sign a lucrative contract (either with the Mets or another team), and possibly see his story honored by the Academy Awards. "Knuckleball!," the aforementioned documentary about Dickey and fellow knuckleballer and former Red Sox starter Tim Wakefield, is a potential Oscar contender in the Best Documentary category. Not bad for a pitcher who just two years ago was a roster filler for the Mets Aaa affiliate in Buffalo.

Can't anyone give the knuckleball some respect? Baseball's slowest pitch is often treated as a joke — there are precious few living pitchers brave enough to make it their specialty — but the art of throwing weird finally gets its close-up in the fittingly titled new documentary Knuckleball!, directed by Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg (Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work). Knuckleball! follows Mets star pitcher R.A. Dickey and retired Red Sox icon Tim Wakefield through the 2011 season as they persist in throwing knuckleballs, despite the fact that even some of their team members think the style is a joke. Take a look at this exclusive clip to see more; the film is currently available on VOD and iTunes and just opened in New York and Boston.

With the summer fading and fall colors beginning to appear, America's greatest pasttime gears up for the post-season as the baseball playoffs are just weeks away. And what better way to gear up for the road to the World Series than with a documentary centered on one of the most curious corners of the game: the knuckleball. From directors Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg ("The Devil Came on Horseback," "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work") comes "Knuckleball," a documentary on the slowest, strangest and most unpredictable pitch in the game that only a select few are masters. The doc follows two players -- 37-year-old R.A. Dickey (New York Mets, now a 2012 All-Star) and 18-year veteran Tim Wakefield (now retired) -- chronicling their ups and downs during the 2011 season. The film also catches up with five living retired knuckleballers: Hall of Famer Phil Niekro, Charlie Hough, Wilbur Wood, Jim Bouton and Tom Candiotti.

Don't be fooled by the title: the new documentary "Knuckleball!" is about a lot more than the notoriously twisty pitch of the same name.
"For us it was really important that this film isn't just a sports film," "Knuckleball!" co-director Anne Sundberg told HuffPost Entertainment. "A lot of positive feedback we have gotten is audience members who are not necessarily the biggest baseball fans and find themselves drawn to and moved by the story."
Though it's tempting to think about baseball in terms of wins and losses, Sundberg and co-director Rick Stern ("Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work") found plot in a pitch, and two men whose careers have been defined by it: former Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tim Wakefield and current New York Mets starter R.A. Dickey. Sundberg and Stern followed the pair -- the last two pitchers who made their living throwing a knuckleball -- throughout the 2011 Major League Baseball season,...

Note: This article was originally published as oart of our coverage of the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival. Knuckleball! opens this week in select cities and premieres on VOD 9/18. Tribeca: Tell us a little about Knuckleball! How do you describe the movie in your own words? Ricki Stern: Our society today is obsessed with youth, speed, and power, and the knuckleball is a pitch that doesn't require strength or power. It requires craftsmanship and patience, and it gets better over time, and it gets better with age, so it allows players to age into baseball. Knuckleball! looks at how this pitch is a symbol for where we are today in our lives. By focusing on Tim Wakefield and R.A. Dickey - the only knuckleballers playing in Major League Baseball - through the 2011 season, and the small fraternity of men who have thrown the pitch over the years, we appreciate how...

Knuckleball, the new documentary from Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg, is about a small group of athletes who’ve gone against the grain. Just a handful of pitchers in the century-plus history of Major League Baseball have relied on the famously unpredictable knuckleball, a pitch that doesn’t spin yet darts every which way. Stern and Sundberg followed two of these guys—Tim Wakefield, of the Boston Red Sox, and the New York Mets’ R.A. Dickey (above)—for the duration of 2011 season. Significantly lighter than the Manhattan-based filmmakers’ previous documentaries—The Devil Came on Horseback was about the genocide in Sudan; The Trials of Darryl Hunt profiled a man who spent two decades in prison for someone else’s crime; Burma Soldier dealt with the perils of civil rights activism in a repressive state—the film is like its predecessors in its humane, perceptive focus on people who’ve...

"To the masses, it's a circus pitch." We've seen plenty of documentaries about sports, but what about a doc about a certain pitch in baseball - the knuckleball. Yes indeed, the filmmakers behind Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work have made a doc called Knuckleball!, about the two Mlb pitchers from the 2011 series who threw knuckleballs, the kind of pitch that floats in the air first before dropping into a strike. It's unpredictable and not many pitchers use it anymore, except these two guys. Tipped via SlashFilm, looks like they've capture a lot of great emotion behind the stories. "A doc that showcases baseball's most unpredictable pitch." Enjoy! Watch the official trailer for Ricki Stern & Anne Sundberg's doc Knuckleball!, found on YouTube: Knuckleball! is a classic sports story that recounts the 2011 journey of the last professional knuckleball pitchers: Tim Wakefield, a 17-year Red Sox veteran, and Mets up-and-comer R.

"Knuckleball!" has been picked up by FilmBuff and will be released on digital and VOD platforms this September. Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg's documentary chronicles one of baseball's rarest and most mysterious pitching techniques. Prior to filmming "Knuckleball" Stern and Sundberg directed such critically acclaimed documentaries as, "The Devil Came on Horseback" and "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work." The film follows the sole major league knuckleballers of the 2011 season, Tim Wakefield of the Boston Red Sox and R.A. Dickey, a minor league player with the New York Mets. Ben McGrath of The New Yorker posits that in the entire history of the sport, only 70-80 knuckleball pitchers have ever existed. Depending on the execution of the pitch, knuckleballs are either a batters worst nightmare or smashed into the grandstands. The two part trailer examines what it's like to throw or be at the recieving end of a knuckleball.

There may be no player in pro baseball who is easier to root for than the R.A. Dickey. The Mets knuckleballer continued his amazing run of dominance last night at Citi Field, becoming the first pitcher since 1988 to pitch back-to-back one-hitters. Dickey has put together five straight starts (42 2/3 innings) in which he's allowed no earned runs and struck out at least eight - an Mlb record.
I was at Citi Field last night, got to saw Dickey baffle the Baltimore Orioles while striking out a career-high 13. It was a thing of beauty. After the game Dickey gave an on-field interview that was broadcast stadium-wide to adoring Mets fans, who are suddenly no-hitter crazed.

Mets fans had to wait 50 years for the first no hitter in franchise history, so we all demured out of pity and didn't make too much fuss about how Johan Santana actually gave up a double. So it makes some sad sense of balance now that fellow Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey tossed a real no-hitter last night against the Tampa Bay Rays, but isn't getting credit for it (at least not yet... more on that later).
In the books, R.A. Dickey threw a complete game, one-hitter last night.
But in the first inning last night, the Rays' speedy Justin Upton hit a two hopper to Mets third baseman David Wright. It was a routine play, even with Upton's speed. But Wright misjudged the play, thought he had to rush, and tried to bare hand the ball. He could have gloved it and gotten Upton with a strong throw.

Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey arrived to Saturday’s Knuckleball! premiere event at downtown Manhattan’s World Financial Center Plaza straight from Citi Field and a win over the San Francisco Giants. Gazing at the photographers and film reporters encroaching on his personal space, he didn’t hesitate in answering EW’s first question: What’s harder — beating the Giants or doing all this Tribeca Film Festival press? “This,” he said with a laugh. “Well, maybe it’s not harder, but it’s certainly overwhelming.” He smiled. “But it’s exciting! Baseball is a war of attrition. Even the best hitters fail 70 percent of the time; even the best teams can lose 70 times in a season. That constant battle with failure is what makes "Knuckleball!" such a great representation of the sport. The documentary -- which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday night and screened to rousing applause on Sunday afternoon -- focuses on a single pitch, the knuckleball, and how those who dare to master its fluttering eccentricities are really what makes baseball baseball.
Directed by Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg ("Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work"), "Knuckleball!" highlights the last two Major League Baseball players to earn their living throwing a knuckleball over around the plate: former Boston Red Sox starter Tim Wakefield and current New York Mets starter R.A. It's Year 11 for the Tribeca Film Festival, and it looks like the fest created by Robert De Niro is hitting its stride.
The 11-day event, which takes place April 18-29, has always been known for its flashy red- carpet premieres (this year's fest is bookended with the comedy "The Five-Year Engagement" and Marvel's latest “The Avengers”) and fun family fare (free Drive In screenings of "Jaws" and "The Goonies"). Tribeca is also branching out into the online world: For its second year, the festival will screen a handful of titles from this year's Tribeca Online Film Festival as well as stream some of its panels.

How do you catch a knuckleball? is a question that has baffled major league backstops for decades. Wise old Bob Uecker seemed to have the best philosophy: “Wait until it stops rolling and then pick it up.”
The most enigmatic of pitches, the knuckleball is one of baseball’s great lost arts. Even when it’s working best, the pitcher really has no idea where it’s going. It darts, it flutters, it sinks. It taunts a hitter — just sitting there begging to be smashed, and then it’s gone again. Though it’s always been a rare pitch mastered...

A new big batch of films have been added to the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival line-up, and while there aren't a lot of big premieres in the bunch, there's a lot to catch up with for those of you (and us) who didn't attend Tiff 2011, Sundance 2012, etc. etc.
Highlights for us include Sarah Polley's sophomore directorial effort "Take This Waltz," starring Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams, Julie Delpy's "2 Days In New York," starring herself and Chris Rock in a sequel to "2 Days in Paris," Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud's "Chicken With Plums," their directorial follow-up to the very excellent 2007 animated film "Persepolis," Lynn Shelton's "Your Sister's Sister" starring Emily Blunt, Rosemarie DeWitt and Mark Duplass, and "Lola Versus," Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister Jones' follow-up to the celebrated 2009 micro-budgeted indie "Breaking Upwards" starring Lister Jones herself alongside Greta Gerwig, Joel Kinnaman (AMC's "The Killing," the new "RoboCop"), Bill Pullman,...

The Tribeca Film Festival announced its Spotlight and Cinemania programs today, including Morgan Spurlock’s latest documentary, Mansome, period drama Cheerful Weather for the Wedding with Like Crazy’s Felicity Jones (right), and Struck By Lightning, written by Glee’s Chris Colfer. “It was important that we head into Tribeca’s second decade highlighting projects that were attuned to the pulse of our cultural climate,” said director of programming Genna Terranova, in a release. “That said, both consciousness and levity play a prominent role in this year’s selection.
