Jennifer Appel and Tasha Fuiava, the two women who claim to have been lost at sea for five months after things went awry during their sailing trip to Tahiti, are now facing questions about the veracity of their story.
The two friends left their homes in Hawaii on May 3 for what was supposed to be about a month-long sailing trip to Tahiti in Appel’s sailing boat, the Sea Nymph, but they said they ran into trouble after a powerful storm flooded their engine, broke their mast and cut off their link to emergency services. But inconsistencies in their story...

The killer shark movie has seen a resurgence in recent years with the Sharknado franchise spewing straight to streaming site sequels, while the schlockier Sharkenstein, Dino-Shark, Jurassic Shark and Shark Exorcist have also plagued home viewing platforms. Some manage to make it to the big screen; take last year’s The Shallows, which earned reputable reviews and Us box office (for its budget), while 2018 will see Jason Statham hopefully chinning a Carcharodon Carcharias in Jon Turtletuab’s giant mutant shark flick, Meg.
Meanwhile, Altitude and E-One (among others) deliver this derivative killer shark flick 47 Metres Down. More along the lines of Open Water than 2-Headed Shark Attack, co-writer/director Johannes Roberts’ film twitches awkwardly on the big screen like a suicidal haddock before wilting into dung sodden algae.

Whatever you have done for your partner lately, it’s probably not nearly as heroic as what Dean Gonsalves did for his wife, Frankie Gonsalves, on Saturday.
The British couple were snorkeling in English Bay off St. Helena’s Ascension Island — a remote area roughly halfway between South America and the horn of Africa — when a shark attacked Frankie and bit her on her calf and foot, The Times reported.
That’s when Dean reportedly sprung to action — punching the shark off of her and fending it off as she swam to shore.

This time of year the WWE makes every effort they can to step up their performance. With Wrestlemania around the corner, they want to make sure as many eyes as possible are watching the Granddaddy of Them All. It’s also a time to reflect and honor the past as this is usually the time of year they start announcing the next WWE Hall of Fame class. Thanks to Bryan Alvarez from the Wrestling Observer, we may have some clue as to who will be a part of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017. Let’s discuss the picks now but remember, until they’re confirmed by the WWE, these choices are strictly rumor at this point.
Diamond Dallas Page
A deserving choice if there ever was one. Starting off as a manager, he worked his way up in his late 30’s to become a wrestler and eventual WCW World Champion.

If you thought it was only studios like The Asylum who were cranking out giant sea creature flicks for Syfy you’d be completely wrong – Roger Corman and his New Horizon Pictures are still producing the kind of cheap and cheerful monster movies that Corman made his name with to this day. Only unlike The Asylum, Corman and co. don’t seem to want to keep to just giant monsters… Instead they’ve cross-bred their monsters as time has gone on – no longer are they satisfied with plain-old Supergator, their first giant creature flick; nope they’ve brought us the crazy combos of Dinoshark, Dinocroc (who took on Supergator in 2010), Piranhaconda; and their craziest giant killer creature combination, Sharktopus.

It seems oh-so-obvious, but would you believe me if I told you that 3-Headed Shark Attack is a sequel to the 2012 film 2-Headed Shark Attack? Well it is. Ray is also one of the best director that purveyors of Syfy channel shlock, The Asylum, currently have on their roster.

The most commercially successful Bond film to date is Thunderball. The pic earned over $141 million worldwide, of which more than half was generated domestically in the U.S. The film was such a success, it was remade some 18 years later as Never Say Never Again. This is without a doubt my favourite Bond film (although not the best), and the film that perfected the ‘Bond Formula”. Every key player is back: lead actor Sen Connery, director Terence Young, longtime Bond screenwriter Richard Maibaum, cinematographer Ted Moore, title sequence designer Maurice Binder, and composer John Barry.
11: Thunderball – Opening Title Sequence
Maurice Binder returns to the fold after two films away and creates the quintessential Bond title sequence. The titles of Thunderball are visually striking, showing silhouettes of naked women swimming around against coloured backgrounds. Binder hired two dancers who actually swam about in tanks in disco clubs and convinced them...

The month of August is off to a great start in terms of DVD and Blu-ray releases as fans have an interesting variety of horror and sci-fi titles to look forward to on Tuesday, August 4th. One of my personal favorite zombie movies as of late, Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, will be making its home entertainment bow and we’ve also got a handful of other notable titles, including The Last Survivors, Lake Placid Vs. Anaconda, Into the Grizzly Maze, Joe Dante’s Burying the Ex and the fest-favorite documentary, The Nightmare.
And as if a new Dante film isn’t enough to be excited about, Warner Home Video is finally releasing a Blu-ray of Dante’s 1987 sci-fi comedy, Innerspace, on August 4th too.

Ever since Steven Spielberg's Jaws redefined the blockbuster back in the summer of 1975, sharks have been a big screen mainstay, terrifying film fans and spawning a horror sub-genre that's usually thrifty in budget but big on ludicrousness.
As Jaws celebrates its 40th birthday today (June 20), take a dive into B-movie heaven and fish out some of cinema's craziest shark-based cinema offerings.
1. Deep Blue Sea (1999)
A Jaws movie in all but name, this souped-up action-horror from Renny Harlin boasts a bigger budget than every other film on this list combined, but a script that rivals them all for hilarity.
The setup? A group of scientists in an underwater research base conduct experiments on sharks in a bid to find a cure for Alzheimer's. Boasting a cast that includes everyone from Thomas Jane to Samuel L Jackson (with LL Cool J as a parrot-loving chef), this is big and dumb - but most importantly,...

Birdman The special features on this early release of Birdman are very limited as I assume Fox Searchlight wanted to get it on shelves before it won Best Picture at the Oscars this weekend and then move forward with a more "special" edition some time later down the line, though it seems to me that's an old school strategy that might not work as well any longer unless they go the Criterion route. How many people are really waiting for the special edition of something if it isn't something similar to the extended cuts of The Lord of the Ringsc I know there will be a few people, but I think studios are going to have to learn to start giving audiences the goods the first time out or their going to miss out. People are moving on rather quickly nowadays.

For the third week of February, Scream Factory is delivering a double dose of terror in their releases of the recent indie horror flick Animal as well as the 1989 cult classic adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera starring Robert Englund and Jill Schoelen.
Magnolia is also bringing us V/H/S: Viral, the latest edition of their popular horror anthology series, home on Blu-ray, DVD and VHS (which is awesome!), and indie genre fans have tons of new titles to look forward to. And for you Game of Thrones fans out there, season four is making its way on Blu and DVD this Tuesday too.

Welcome to another horror/thriller round-up! This time around we have details on Backstreet Boy Nick Carter’s in-the-works zombie western movie, release details for Arrow Video’s UK Blu-ray / DVD of the Vincent Price-starring The Comedy of Terrors, and an update on Warner Bros.’ and Team Downey’s in-development film based on the real-life sinking of the USS Indianapolis and the subsequent shark attacks on the surviving crew members.
In an interview with Noisey, Backstreet Boy Nick Carter revealed that he will be directing and starring in a zombie western called Dead West (not to be confused with Joe R. Lansdale’s 1986 zombie western novel, Dead in the West) for Asylum this March. Carter also co-wrote the script and has a couple of potential cast members in mind (excerpts from Noisey via Shock Till You Drop):
“It’s called Dead West. [Laughs.] It’s a zombie horror western movie.

Even if you live in a pineapple under the sea or threw your television out the window in a drunken fit of rage one night a few weeks ago, you're likely aware that we're currently balls deep into Shark Week...
...Discovery's Channel's annual celebration of those underwater beasties who once upon a time turned a man by the name of Quint into a bucket of human chum.
I don't think you need me to tell you that this week is the absolute perfect week to revisit Jaws and other shark attack films, but in the event that you do, allow me to provide that service for you.
This week is the perfect week to revisit Jaws and other shark attack films!
There. You happy?
In celebration of Shark Week here at Dread Central, we initially flirted with the idea of bringing you a list of the best shark-themed horror films to watch this week.

Sunday was the beginning of Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, an annual celebration of the awesome might of these elegant creatures of the sea. But while Shark Week focuses largely on real sharks (well, real-ish) we wanted to commemorate the sharks that we enjoy the other 51 weeks of the year - the friendly and fearsome sharks that fill up our popular culture. Which pop-culture shark is best? And, just as crucially, which pop-culture shark is worst? We'd write more, but like a shark, this post needs to constantly move forward or else it dies. A lot of people have been talking about Benjamin Morris’ 538 piece, “Are Pro Wrestlers Dying at an Unusual Rate?”
Like Morris, I am neither an actuarial scientist nor a demographer. So, our interpretations of the data should be taken with a grain of salt. My results were somewhat different from Morris’ due to a difference data set and changes in how we calculated actuarial predictions.
Differences in methodology from Morris
I also used Social Security Actuarial Life Tables, but my “expected mortality rates” for the age groups were not the same as Morris’. For each wrestler, I calculated what their age would have been as of today. Then, based on gender, I looked up the number of lives (out of 100,000) that were expected to still be alive and converted that to a percentage. His analysis looked at wrestlers who were on 20+ WWF PPVs through 2002. I went with a...

The messed-up machinations of bored, oversexed stepsiblings Kathryn Merteuil and Sebastian Valmont aren’t quite as shocking in 2014 as they were when Cruel Intentions was released on March 5, 1999. (Blame Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and a zillion other glitzy/scandalous imitators.)
That said, Cruel Intentions is still an enormously entertaining teen movie, even 15 years (gulp) after its initial release — thanks to an uncommonly sharp script, a killer soundtrack, and, most importantly, an impeccable cast, which featured future Oscar winners and future Sharknado stars alike. Well, one of each, but you get the picture. Whoever headed up this franchise had a...

Several years ago, we showed you an awesome 'Shark Attack Coffee Mug,' which had the head of a Great White lurking beneath the surface of your cup of morning Joe. If sharks aren't exactly your preferred monsters, then you'll be happy to know that there are now several different variations of these attack mugs available, which are sure to put a little pep in your step.
They're called Creepy Creature Cups, and they allow you to uncover a human skull, catch a giant spider, hook an octopus and dig up a T-Rex. Crafted from quality porcelain, each of the mugs features a surprise ingredient in your cup of coffee or tea - because the best part of waking up... is a creature in your cup!

Look, bad things happen in the water. Kids pee in pools, ocean-dwelling, antisocial sharks eat... well, you know that story, and in the upcoming flick Dead Sea, an overgrown lamprey spends considerable time munching on lake-dipping, scantily-clad people’s bits. We caught up with the film’s star Devanny Pinn recently, who dished on the Brandon Slagle ‘blood and bikini’ feature. Written and directed by Slagle, who previously helmed the feature The Black Dahlia Haunting, Dead Sea stars (in addition to Pinn) Alexis Iacono (The Penny Dreadful Picture Show), Britt Griffith (Syfy's Ghost Hunters), James Duval (Donnie Darko), Chanel Ryan (Bad Kids Go to Hell), Candace Kita (Nip/Tuck), Tawny Amber Young and Kj McCormick, and revolves around a marine biologist who reluctantly returns to the town she grew up in, only to encounter the violent paranoia that has overtaken its locals as they prepare for the return of a...

Sharknado starred a cast member of the original “Beverly Hills 90210”. Now b-movie director David DeCoteau is unleashing a killer shark in the zip code of the young, rich, and impossibly good-looking. How many buff and beautiful celebutantes will survive this 90210 Shark Attack?
We’ve now reached a point with every new killer shark b-movie that I find myself asking if this movie is trying cash in on the Sharknado train or if it's merely par for the course. The low-budget shark sub-genre has truly become that prolific.
A Spanish-language website called Teenage Thunder (thankfully, not a porn site with a name like that) broke the news regarding David DeCoteau’s 90210 Shark Attack. Or I should say they broke the news regarding the artwork and the cast because I have no clue what the plot is. A shark terrorizes Beverly Hills is probably all the plot you need.

In the past two years alone, shark attacks have claimed the lives of six Australian swimmers, which recently prompted government officials to tag over 300 of the predators with special devices, so that they'll automatically send out tweets whenever they're swimming dangerously close to the shore. Though angry tweeting sharks would be enough to keep most people out of Australia's waters, the dudes that comprise the group The Mad Huey's can't exactly be described as 'most people.'
The Mad Huey's are all about living on the edge, and not letting anything stop them in their pursuit of fun and adventure... not even big ass sharks with a hunger for human limbs.
An incredible video posted earlier this week on The Mad Huey's YouTube channel shows just how quickly a little bit of fun can escalate into something much more serious, as one of the members of the group narrowly escapes...

Including films that achieve the correct button-mashing combo to earn fancy kudos and are positively lauded, there are only a select few from the whole bunch that have the significance of “definitive.”
These are films that transcend ownership of marquee space, or their critical importance with film niches, and take on a wide cultural significance. Such happens to a point in which these movies now help outline our exact understanding of an entire year of film itself. These are the films that are created from specific thematic trends from all of our culture, or in some historical cases, became trends themselves.
From the paranormal parody of “A Haunted House” to the controversial “Wolf of Wall Street,” here are 13 films that best define the movie year that was 2013.

In Thursday’s Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith and Cristina finally start to do more than just snipe at one another. (Mind you, there’s still quite a lotta sniping.) But, before the once-and-possibly-future BFFs can make too much headway, April tells them to put a sock in it, because, in case they hadn’t heard, she’s getting married, so even more so than usual, it’s all about her, her, her. Well, her and also Matthew Jackson. But more on that later…
