Who’s ready for a Sandworm ride? The long-awaited (and delayed) sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is getting spicy in theaters, and we want to know what you think about the film! Anticipation for Dune: Part Two has been through the roof since last year, and then the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes hit Hollywood. Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. Film Group agreed to delay the film until 2024, knowing that a robust promotional campaign for the science-fiction epic would serve the project (and the box office) well.
The delay is paying off as Dune: Part Two already took $12 million home from preview screenings. The film debuted in 4,500 locations, with Imax screenings bringing in 38% of the pot. I’ve got tickets for an 11:30 screening at my local theater tomorrow, joining the crowds already rushing to theaters to experience one of 2024’s most anticipated features. Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, is now scheduled to be released on March 1st – but there are five more Herbert Dune novels that could serve as the basis for future films, and Villeneuve and his Dune stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya have all expressed interest in continuing the franchise. In an interview with Total Film magazine, Villeneuve said the ending of Dune: Part Two will set up the events of a third Dune film… if they get the chance to make it. He told Total Film, “All of the elements are there. But I think the movie adaptation is more tragic than the book. The way that Part Two ends… it would create a total balance and equilibrium to finish Paul’s storyline in what we could say in Part Three.“
Chalamet told Total Film, “The idea excites me very much.

Fresh off of being delayed until 2024, Dune: Part Two is Empire Magazine‘s new cover story. The outlet will print two gorgeous Dune Part Two Empire Magazine covers for fans to collect, featuring House Atreides and Harkonnen members. Yesterday, Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. said they would push the release of Dune: Part Two, with the film now coming to theaters on March 15, 2024.
This change in release date has caused a knock-on effect. Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire was set to be released on March 15, 2024, but will now move to April 12, 2024. That is the date that The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim was supposed to be released, which will now be pushed to December 13, 2024. The reason for the Dune: Part Two delay is said to be because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, as the studio clearly wants its stars to be able to promote the movie.

A spicy rumor about the Dune film franchise is rising from the sands of Arrakis. Industry insider Daniel Richtman said that Warner Bros had signed Timothée Chalamet for Dune 3. While this is not a confirmation of production plans for another movie in Denis Villeneuve’s presentation of Dune, it’s not the first time we’ve heard rumblings that a third film is a possibility.
Previously, Dune writer Jon Spaihts confirmed a third film could happen. “There are a few tantalizing strands that lead into the future and suggest that we might not be done in this universe, despite the fact that the ending of ‘Dune’ as a novel, which will be the ending of the second film, is a very satisfying conclusion,” Spaihts told The Playlist early last year. “There are a number of ways in which the book also sounds ominous notes, and there are hints of foreboding...

Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, has a release date of November 3rd – and in this build-up to the film’s release, we’ve previously only heard that Villeneuve wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts, who he also collaborated with on the script for Dune: Part One. (Their Part One co-writer Eric Roth decided not to work on the follow-up.) Now, The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin has revealed that he was also a “participating writer” on Dune: Part Two!

The Warner Bros CinemaCon panel is bringing something spicy for today’s anticipated presentation. The sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune debuts in theaters on November 3, 2023, but press members and attendees of this week’s show are getting a preview of Dune: Part Two before previews hit online.
During the presentation for Dune: Part Two, it was revealed the sequel was shot entirely for IMAX, making it the ultimate theater experience. At the top of the presentation, Villeneuve, Timothée Chalamet, and Zendaya took the stage. Villeneuve teased the film picks up exactly where 2021’s Dune left off. As Chalamet says, in the first movie, Paul is a student, but in this one, he becomes a leader and redeemer of the Freman. The story also digs deeply into the growing love between Paul and Chani, and Zendays says this was huge for her as, in the first film, her involvement was pretty limited.

Dune: Part Two is coming into focus, with filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya showing off a new trailer for the Warner Bros. and Legendary sequel at CinemaCon Tuesday.
“Part One is more of a contemplative movie. Part Two is an action-packed, epic, war movie. It is much more dense. We went to all new locations,” said Villeneuve. “I didn’t want a feeling of repititon. It’s all new sets. Everyting is new.”
He also said that while 40 percent of the first film was shot in Imax, 100 percent of this film was shot in Imax.
“In the first movie, Paul is a student,” said Chalamet of his character, Paul Atreides. “We really see Paul Atrides become a leader … become a redeemer of the Fremen people in a sense.”

Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, which has a release date of November 3, 2023 – and when fans have the chance to see the movie, cast member Rebecca Ferguson says they’ll be seeing a film that’s even better than its predecessor.
Ferguson gave her opinion on Dune: Part Two during an interview on Jake’s Takes, even though she hasn’t actually seen the movie herself yet. Interviewer Jake Hamilton listed Villeneuve’s first Dune as his #1 film of 2021, and asked Ferguson to tell him that the follow-up is awesome. She did just that, saying, “I’m gonna say, Part Two is better than Part One. And that’s me without seeing it, that is me saying it based on what I’ve read, what I’ve seen, what I’ve filmed. I think it’s gonna be better.

When director Denis Villeneuve contacted Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West about creating the costumes for Dune: Part One, she initially turned him down. Speaking at a masterclass for Qatar’s Doha Film Institute, West told the audience (as reported by Deadline), “I said, ‘I don’t do sci-fi. It’s not my thing.’ I said no. He hired someone else, and I guess he wasn’t happy because he called my agent a second time and said, ‘Can I just talk to her.’ Mary Parent, who produced The Revenant and was producing Dune, got me in her office and put me on FaceTime with him on a big screen. He was so compelling. He said, ‘I want you because I do not want it to look like sci-fi. I want it to be classical. I don’t want it to look like a video game.’” Her time on Dune: Part One went so well,...

Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve‘s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, has wrapped filming, but isn’t set to reach theatres for another nine months – to be exact, it has a release date of November 3, 2023. Speaking with Collider, cast member Dave Bautista promised that this one will be worth the wait, and it is much more amped up and intense than its predecessor.
Bautista said, “This is so amped up from the first film. The first film was just an introduction to what this film is. There’s just so much going on, it’s so much more cutthroat and political and intense. And there are moments of levity where [there are] some funny moments, and they’re kind of absurd humor, but there are those moments. So it’s just so much more amped up than the first film.“

When Alejandro Jodorowsky was developing his unmade adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, he planned to cast Mick Jagger as the character Feyd-Rautha. When David Lynch brought his version of Dune to the screen in 1984, Feyd-Rautha was played by Sting. And in Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve‘s two-part adaptation of Dune (which is set to reach theatres on November 3, 2023), the character is played by Elvis star Austin Butler, who just received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Elvis Presley. Filmmakers really like to link Feyd-Rautha with famous musicians, either directly or with a small degree of separation. Butler has previously said that he trained with a Navy Seal to prepare for the role in Dune: Part Two, and in a new interview he has said that he “had a blast” working on the film.

The entertainment industry is buckling under the weight of inflation exacerbated by persisting supply chain turmoil, physical production executives and studio operators tell The Hollywood Reporter. Amid a record year for production levels after bouncing back from the pandemic, studios are grappling over how to build sets within budget and on time.
“The accessibility of steel and lumber due to supply chain issues have driven up the cost of materials by at least 25 to 30 percent,” says Herb Gains, executive vp physical production at Legendary. On a recent film, he notes that the same set with the same plans was double the price of what it cost four years ago.

The House Corrino has its ruler.
Christopher Walken will join Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya in director Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune Part Two,” as Shaddam IV, the Padishah Emperor of the Known Universe.
Walken’s casting fills out the major characters for the second half of Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal science-fiction novel. He joins Florence Pugh (“Black Widow”) as the Emperor’s daughter, Princess Irulan; and Austin Butler (star of the upcoming “Elvis”) as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the presumptive heir to the Harkonnen dynasty.

There was little suspicion that Jane Campion would not win the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Achievement for Direction of a Theatrical Feature Film for “The Power of the Dog.” Usually at this stage of the game, with the Oscars two weeks away, director Campion’s Golden Globe statuette would have already been followed by more awards that, in this pandemic-delayed year, are still to come: the Critics Choice and BAFTA awards will be handed out on Sunday, March 13, with the PGA next week.
Academy voters will file their ballots between March 17 and 22. Campion follows last year’s winner Chloe Zhao (“Nomadland”) as the third woman to win the DGA award (along with Kathryn Bigelow for “The Hurt Locker”) and the first to be nominated twice, as she is for the Oscar.

Now set to be released in theaters and HBO Max on October 22nd, we have an extended look at the new Dune movie that should give you a much better idea of what to expect from the latest Denis Villeneuve epic:
Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve directs Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Dune,” the big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller of the same name.
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures dropped the full trailer for their highly anticipated "Dune" adaptation on Thursday. In it, Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) dreams of Chani (Zendaya), a woman he has never met but is inexplicably drawn to.
"I've been having dreams about a girl on Arrakis," Paul tells his mentor, Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa).
"Dreams make good stories," Duncan replies. "But everything happens when we're awake."
The Atreides family, collectively known as House Atreides, settle on Arrakis (aka Dune) and come into conflict with the brutal Harkonnen -- a rival House of nightmarish conquerors -- and the native inhabitants known as the Fremen, of which Chani is a member.
The trailer includes plenty of fight scenes, including hand to hand, mass warfare and space combat. And of course, a shot of the gargantuan sandworms that inhabit Dune and are feared by all.
