Tweeting about his friendship with Ellen DeGeneres, late-night TV legend Jay Leno joined a growing number of industry figures voicing support for the television talk show host.
“I don’t discard a 40-year friendship on hearsay. The Ellen I know has raised over $125 million dollars for charity and has always been a kind and decent person,” Leno tweeted Tuesday. “I fully support her.”
Throughout his time as Tonight Show host in the 90s and early aughts, Leno welcomed DeGenres as a guest multiple times. Years later, the Ellen host returned the favor inviting him to appear on her self-titled daytime show.
His message of support comes after Buzzfeed published a story in which former Ellen employees recalled their time behind the scenes. The former talk show workers said they experienced bullying, intimidation and racially charged microaggressions from top bosses. Warner Bros. launched an internal investigation after Buzzfeed released the story.

Ellen DeGeneres' big brother has her back. As stars either issue their public support or criticize the daytime host amid allegations of a toxic work environment behind the scenes at her long-running show, the comedian's older brother, Vance DeGeneres, has made it publicly clear where he stands. "If you think Ellen would knowingly allow bullying or racism on her show, you don't know my sister," the movie producer tweeted on Tues., Aug. 4. "She has been and continues to be a bright light in a dark world. She's one of the kindest, most generous people you'll ever meet. And one of the funniest." On Facebook, Vance did not mince words as he denounced the...

In the latest chapter of the Kevin Hart/Ellen DeGeneres/Oscar hosting saga, the daytime talk show host’s brother, Vance DeGeneres has come to the defense of his sister’s support of Hart despite the controversy surrounding him regarding resurfaced homophobic tweets that caused him to lose the Oscar hosting gig.
CNN’s Don Lemon chimed in with emotional criticism of the interview and, of course, Twitter wasted no time with the backlash.
“Regarding my sister – no good deed goes unpunished,” he wrote. “All she’s ever done is try to help make the world a better, kinder, more compassionate place. And she’s paid the price for her efforts. You may want to pick on someone who actually deserves your criticism.”
Earlier this week Ellen DeGeneres welcomed Hart on her show where she wanted him to come back as host of the annual ceremony despite all the scandal.

Even though it's hard to imagine, apparently The Ellen DeGeneres Show cannot go on forever. In fact, the feel-good talk show's fate was recently hanging in the balance before Ellen DeGeneres extended her contract until 2020 after an apparent internal debate. DeGeneres spoke about the pressure of her eponymous show - now in its 16th season - as well as her forthcoming stand-up special Relatable in a refreshingly candid interview with The New York Times.
"I wanted to show all of me."
"The talk show is me, but I'm also playing a character of a talk-show host," DeGeneres said, explaining why she's returning to stand-up after a 15-year hiatus. "I wanted to show all of me." Her brother, Vance DeGeneres, agreed that working on new material offered her a break from the routine, saying, "After doing the show for 16 years, it's second nature. Ellen DeGeneres is considering – or not – the end of her wildly successful daytime talk show. In an interview with The New York Times, posted online ahead of its print publication this Sunday, the comic and host says she’s uncertain what she’ll do when her contract ends in 2020.
DeGeneres renewed her deal in 2016 and recently extended it through the summer of 2020, but admits to changing her mind frequently about the future of the multiple Emmy-winning The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She tells the Times that she’s torn between the advice of her wife Portia de Rossi, who thinks she should move on, and her brother, comedian Vance DeGeneres, who thinks his sister’s daily voice is more important than ever in the age of Donald Trump.
De Rossi, DeGeneres tells the Times, “gets mad when my brother tells me I can’t stop.”

Ellen DeGeneres is considering quitting her NBC daytime talker, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” and branching out because her wife, Portia de Rossi, thinks the comedian has “other things she could tackle.”

Sam Shepard passed away at the age of 73 on July 27 after complications from Als, and on Tuesday, musician Patti Smith penned a beautiful tribute to her late friend in The New Yorker. Patti looked back on her decades-long friendship with the legendary actor, writing, "We knew each other for such a long time. Our ways could not be defined or dismissed with a few words describing a careless youth. We were friends; good or bad, we were just ourselves. The passing of time did nothing but strengthen that." Patti also wrote about her favorite memories with Sam and how he promised that he would one day take her across the American Southwest, though their plans came to a screeching halt when Sam was "stricken with a debilitating affliction." "He eventually stopped picking up and leaving. From then on, I visited him, and we read and talked, but mostly we worked.

All through the run-up to Jon Stewart's final "Daily Show" last night, fans were treated to clips of Stewart's greatest hits and best running gags, be it his disdain for Arby's or his impression of Mitch McConnell by way of Cecil Turtle from "Looney Tunes." Stewart opened Wednesday night's penultimate episode by looking at the notion of Stewart's "Daily Show" as a savage "destroyer of worlds," by replaying some of his harshest attacks on Isis, the banks that got us into the financial crisis, and Fox News. Each look back concluded with news footage proving that not only had Stewart not successfully ruined any of his foes, but that they were all more powerful than before. "The world is demonstrably worse than when I started!" he vented. "Have I caused this?!?!?" It was an appropriate, and probably necessary, note to hit. For all that Stewart has been rightly celebrated...

Jon Stewart’s final “Daily Show” opened with a nod to the past as a star-studded cast of current and former correspondents joined him to cover the first Republican debate. Jessica Williams, Hasan Minhaj and Jordan Klepper reported from the debate, covering Donald Trump, Jeb Bush and Scott Walker’s debate performance. They were soon joined by a returning Samantha Bee, Lewis Black, Steve Carell, Vance DeGeneres, Mo Rocca, Matt Walsh and an angry Larry Wilmore, whose “Nightly Show” got bumped for an extended finale for Stewart. “Black shows matter,” Wilmore said, a nod to the Black Lives Matter movement.

On June 26, Comedy Central began streaming every single episode of The Daily Show under Jon Stewart’s tenure, an event it deemed the Month of Zen: an uninterrupted deluge of satirical news running 24/7 for more than a month. In that time, I managed to catch 100 episodes of Stewart’s nearly 17 years as host, charting its rapid maturation from unfocused finger-pointing into the lean, mean satire machine it is today.1999 I first opened the stream at 1:12 p.m. on June 28, during an episode from its first season, on September 30, 1999. The show was in the midst of a segment making fun of Garth Brooks’s ill-fated journey into rock music under the pseudonym of Chris Gaines. As dated as that segment was, the early episode then transitioned into what would become the program’s calling card: a segment on media responsibility. Three correspondents — Vance DeGeneres, Mo Rocca, and...

This year we'll see Steve Carell having some family fun in the Disney comedy Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. And it turns out that he might have an affinity for family friendly comedies at the studio as he's just signed up for another one. THR has word that Carell will star in and produce Brooklyn Family Robinson. Though the title takes a cue from Swiss Family Robinson, the film is based on an original idea by David Reynolds (Oscar nominated co-writer of Finding Nemo) and Carell's Carousel Productions producing partners Charlie Hartsock and Vance DeGeneres. So what's it about? Well, plot details are vague "in order to protect the project's secrets," but the film will follow the father of a family (Carell) who takes his family from city life to island life. Could this be some kind of treasure adventure with a family? We're hoping...

The fate of Gcb, one of our favorite new shows, will be decided in the next few weeks, and right now, there's a 50/50 chance it'll survive. If it does get canceled, at least it'll instantly become a member of what we'll call the Arrested Development/Freaks & Geeks/Firefly club. Shows that were canceled before their time, and have gained cult status since they left the airwaves.
All of those programs have rabid enthusiastic followers, and in the case of Firefly and Arrested Development, that fan enthusiasm has directly led to big screen resurrections.
We're hoping Gcb gets a renewal, but while we wait, let's take a look at a few other shows throughout the years that were unfairly snuffed out, and picture ... what might have been.
Pushing Daisies

We all knew that Steve Carell‘s departure from The Office would lead to a more substantial presence on the big screen, but the rate at which he’s attaching himself to projects is nevertheless surprising. The next few years alone will bring starring roles in The Dogs of Babel, Burt Wonderstone, Frank or Francis, Foxcatcher, and Conviction — more than plenty for someone who wants to keep themselves busy, but there’s at least one more to add to that list.
As Deadline reports, Universal has acquired Dave Barry and Alan Zweibel‘s novel, Lunatics, for him to star in. The forthcoming book — which the authors are adapting for the screen — revolves around “New Jersey soccer dads whose minor feud escalates to create worldwide consequences, and leave them running for their lives.” Scott Stuber and Pam Abdy will produce through Stuber Pictures; Carell, Vance DeGeneres, and Charlie Hartsock will do so by way of Carousel.

Exclusive: Steve Carell is attached to star in and produce Conviction, a heist film that was bought as a spec script two years ago by Warner Bros and Silver Pictures. The script by Jonathan Herman, which made the Black List, follows a mastermind bank robber who serves five years in prison following a botched heist who is forced by an FBI agent to entrap his protege as the upstart pulls off a multimillion-dollar job. It was a touching homecoming on last night’s episode of The Daily Show when former correspondent Steve Carell stopped by to promote his latest flick, the wonderful Crazy, Stupid, Love (much to Jon Stewart’s mock disappointment that Carell’s co-star Ryan Gosling couldn’t come by instead.)
Not only did it reunite Carell with his Papa Bear (“I miss you so much,” the actor/nicest-guy-on-the-face-of-the-Earth told the host) but there was something of a mini-Daily Show get-together as fellow alums Vance DeGeneres, Nancy Walls (Carell’s wife) and the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders (who knew?) were also in tow.

HollywoodNews.com: A couple of things about Steve Carell‘s new romantic comedy, “Crazy Stupid Love.” First, singer Josh Groban makes his film debut as the sleazy, nerdy lawyer who’s dating Emma Stone‘s character. It can’t be a coincidence that Groban records for Warner Music and this is a Warner movie, even though the two companies are severed. Still, Groban is very good. Now a new audience will see him not just as a powerful singer but in a new realm. Maybe he’s heading down Justin Timberlake‘s path.
Second, Ryan Gosling, so good an actor in “Half Nelson,” “Lars and the Real Girl,” “Blue Valentine,” and the upcoming “Drive,” is used as a sex symbol showing off his well sculpted physique. I don’t understand– we used to go to the same gym! My results were quite, uh, different. As Emma Stone exclaims when Gosling removes his shirt,...

This movie is amazing. I knew I would love it because my brother, Vance DeGeneres, produced it, and I know from experience that he has great taste. He introduced me to 'Captain Kangaroo.' But I didn't expect to love this movie as much as I do. It's astoundingly good.
The acting in this movie is incredible. Julianne Moore is heartbreaking, Emma Stone is hilarious, and Steve Carell is a perfect combination of hilarious and heartbreaking.

Steve Carell has just landed a new acting gig. He will star in a new film called Dogs of Bable, based off a novel from Carolyn Parkhurst. The script for the film was written by Jamie Linden (Ten Year, Dear John, We Are Marshall). This sounds like an interestingly dark film.

The only witness to her death is their dog Lorelei.
