After a phenomenal headlining performance at Coachella 2024 two weeks ago, Lana Del Rey returned to the desert to join Paul Cauthen’s set during the first night of Stagecoach this year.
Together, Del Rey and Cauthen sang the classic track’s chorus: “Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea/To the open arms of the sea/Lonely rivers cry, wait for me, wait for me/ I’ll be coming home, wait for me.”

Courtney Love has slammed Beyoncé, Lana del Ray, Taylor Swift and other prominent female singers for their role in the music industry.
“It’s great that there are so many successful women in the music industry, but lots of them are becoming a cliché,” Love told U.K.’s Evening Standard. “Now, every successful woman is cloned, so there is just too much music. They’re all the same. If you play something on Spotify, you get bombarded with a lot of stuff that’s exactly the same.”
“I mean, I like the idea of Beyoncé doing a country record because it’s about black women going into spaces where previously only white women have been allowed, not that I like it much, as a concept, I love it,” she said. “I just don’t like her music.”
Love was even more dismissive of Swift. “Taylor is not important… as an artist,...

Go on, take everything – and everyone down a peg. Courtney Love is going after some of the most popular female artists on the scene and of all time, taking digs at everybody from Taylor Swift to Madonna. Well, let’s hear it, Miss World!
Courtney Love’s former band Hole made its mark by being one of the key female-led grunge acts of the ‘90s. But for her, today’s music is all just a copy of a copy. “It’s great that there are so many successful women in the music industry, but lots of them are becoming a cliché…Now, every successful woman is cloned, so there is just too much music. They’re all the same. If you play something on Spotify, you get bombarded with a lot of stuff that’s exactly the same.”
So, which modern acts make Courtney Love’s celebrity skin crawl? Taylor Swift for one.

With a new BBC radio series now launched, Courtney Love is once again proving the power of the adage “go large or go home.”
In a wide ranging interview with the UK’s Standard today, the former Hole front woman puts forth her take on some of the biggest names in the music industry. Let’s just say, Love bites in deep in the newspaper, to quote from her 1998 tune “Celebrity Skin,” to get her pound of flesh from Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Madonna and recent Coachella headliner Lana Del Rey.
“Taylor is not important,” the People vs. Larry Flint star says of the superstar.
“She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist,” Love added.
The contrarian opinion on Swift is a big shift from where Love was on the Folklore singer just over two years ago.

Courtney Love took shots at several fellow female musicians over the weekend, dissing the likes of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Lana Del Rey and Madonna.
“Taylor is not important,” the singer said in an interview with The Standard. “She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”
Despite the invocation of Madonna to address Swift’s success, Love didn’t spare Madonna, either: “I don’t like her and she doesn’t like me,” Love said.
Elsewhere in the interview, Love also noted she dislikes Beyoncé’s new country hit, Cowboy Carter, despite appreciating the album’s symbolism being “about Black women going into spaces where previously only white women have been allowed.”
“As a concept, I love it,” Love said. “I just don’t like her music.”
Love went on to say she dislikes Lana Del Rey.

Courtney Love could have a cruel summer running into Swifties after saying their favorite artist Taylor Swift is neither important nor interesting.
In a new interview with The Standard promoting Love’s BBC Radio series celebrating women in music, the Hole singer didn’t have kind words to say about Swift. “Taylor is not important,” she said. “She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”

There is something innate in the American character which inspires and deludes us of our place in history, past and present. Call it a devotion to American exceptionalism, cynicism, or opportunism, but even Senator Josh Hawley—the Missouri politician who spent months fermenting discontent and conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election, and who on the morning of Jan. 6, 2021 raised his fist in solidarity with a crowd of insurrectionists—seemed bewildered when the mob he played to actually stormed the barricades. There is footage of him fleeing for his life while Capitol Police officers like Brian Sicknick died defending the rule of law.

His son, Kevin, confirmed the death to The New York Times. Sparks was living on his 168-acre ranch in Jenny Lind, CA, until a few days before his death.

Lana Del Rey plans to release a country album called Lasso in September.
The singer-songwriter shared the news during a Billboard-hosted pre-Grammys event, where she was on hand to honor producer Jack Antonoff.
”If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country. We’re going country. It’s happening,” Del Rey said. “That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”
Del Rey previously teased the album by uploading a snippet of new music to Instagram last month. “Last call, hey ya, hang his hat up on a wall / Tell him that his cowgirl is gone (come on and giddy up),” she sings on the untitled song. She also recently released a cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

At one point as the supergroup dubbed “USA for Africa” was assembling on January 28, 1985, at A&M Recording Studios in Hollywood, Paul Simon reportedly joked, “If a bomb lands on this place, John Denver’s back on top.” Such was the magnitude of mid-‘80s music luminaries on hand, everyone from Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick and Tina Turner through Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel and beyond. Unless you’ve spent your whole life under a rock, sometime or other, the resulting charity single, “We Are the World,” has likely gotten stuck in your head. The song achieved instant global saturation, selling out the initial run of a million copies in the first weekend of its release.

It’s amazing to think about now, but once upon a time, there was apparently a limited amount of television programs and, consequently, a lot of extra time, especially in December, that TV programmers needed to fill. There were, of course, the annual broadcasts of Frosty and Rudolph and Charlie Brown and the Grinch, plus John Denver and the Muppets (a particular favorite in my family) but those only filled a few hours of the entire long season.

This week, Lana Del Rey has further cemented her status as a torch-bearer of Americana culture. First, she performed Elvis’ “Unchained Melody” on NBC’s Christmas at Graceland, and now, she’s shared a cover of John Denver’s classic song, “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
Swapping Denver’s folksy guitar for a reverb-washed piano, Del Rey’s take on the classic sing-along captures a similar sense of wonder as the original, but interpolates a haunting quality (pretty standard territory for her). As the piano’s bounce gains momentum, it’s almost as if you’re listening to the echoes of an old bar’s parlor piano, still reverberating even after the conversations it once scored have long been forgotten by time. The pedal steel licks, meanwhile, remind you of the song’s ‘70s folk rock origins, while Del Rey’s hazy, ever-so-Del-Rey-esque vocal performance firmly plants her arrangement in the present day.

That year, the list was topped by John Denver’s “Annie’s Song”.
“Last Night” was followed on the Songs of the Summer chart by Luke Combs’ cover of Tracy Chapman’s classic “Fast Car”.

One of the most famous classic rock songs from the 1970s that wasn’t a single was Nazareth’s “Hair of the Dog.” Notably, the song caused controversy before and after its release. Despite its mixed reception, “Hair of the Dog” inspired a cover by Guns N’ Roses.
Why Nazareth’s ‘Hair of the Dog’ includes profanity in its lyrics but not its title
Nazareth’s “Hair of the Dog” repeatedly uses the phrase “Son of a b****.” According to a 2004 interview with Classic Rock, the band wanted to give the song the title “Son of a B****.” However, the censors didn’t like that title. Despite this, the members of Nazareth still refer to the song by its original title.
Even with its new title, “Hair of the Dog” still ruffled feathers. Nazareth’s Pete Agnew remembered one of the band’s performances that was televised in Chile. “The...

I love movies more than just about anything else in the world, but if anything is going to rank higher on my personal hierarchy of needs, it's the promise of free stuff. The economy is in shambles and my rent just went up, so needless to say, I am all about anything that doesn't come with a price tag. We here at /Film have been preaching the gospel of Pluto TV, the free ad-supported streaming television (Fast) provider with thousands of titles in their library and specialized channels of constantly running programming, for years.
If you long for the days of turning on the TV in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday and watching whatever it is the cable programming gods decided for you, this is the closest thing to capturing that feeling. Want to watch a horror movie? There's a channel for that. Hoping to check out...

So many brilliant songwriters came out of Canada in the Sixties — legends like Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and Robbie Robertson — that the talents of Gordon Lightfoot are sometimes overlooked by those who don’t know better. He never even appeared on a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ballot before his death at 84. That’s a raging injustice when you listen back to gems like “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Carefree Highway,” and “Early Morning Rain.” These songs earned him a sterling reputation as a songwriter’s songwriter,...

“I’d go on a seven-minute rant with a repetitive melody,” Lana Del Rey recently told Billie Eilish in an interview about her writing process for Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. Indeed, many of the songs on her newly released ninth album do fit that description. They are long and can be repetitive, but truly, a rant has never sounded so alluring.
The six-time Grammy nominee, née Elizabeth Grant, returns this week with her latest album, two years on from a double release in 2021 (Chemtrails Over the Country Club and Blue Banisters). Across eight records and 11 years, Del Rey has built a world and iconography of her own. Hers is one of cherry cola cans, white sundresses, sycamore trees, seedy dive bars and American flags that fly both defiantly and depressingly. More controversial in the Lana lexicon are the deadbeat boyfriends with fast fists that feel like kisses.

There are tons of great indie covers of classic rock songs. Today’s indie bands have many great classic rock bands to inspire them. Here is a list of the 10 best instances.
Best Coast | Clasos/Getty Images 10. ‘Rhiannon’ – Best Coast
Indie band Best Coast’s cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” is interesting. It appeared on the various artists’ album, A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac. They definitely made it their own. The piano as the backbeat isn’t the best, but guitarist and vocalist Bethany Cosentino’s singing is excellent on the classic rock tune.
9. ‘Gold Only Knows’ – Jr Jr
Jr Jr’s cover of The Beach Boys’ classic “Gold Only Knows” is a perfect example of an indie cover of a classic rock song. It blends the two genres, which are separated by multiple decades. The lyrics are classic rock, but the vibe, mood, and sound are all indie rock.

Lana Del Rey has shared “The Grants,” the latest single from her upcoming ninth studio album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.
On the track, Del Rey (born Elizabeth Grant) appears to pay tribute to the memory of her late uncle David Grant, who died in 2016 while climbing the Rocky Mountains. “I’m gonna take mine of you with me,” Del Rey sings. “Like ‘Rocky Mountain High’/ The way John Denver sings.”
“The Grants” was co-written with Mike Hermosa and features backing vocals from singers Melodye Perry, Pattie Howard, and Shikena Jones, who all appeared in the 2013 music documentary 20 Feet from Stardom.

Jim Henson’s Muppets mesh so well with Christmas. Crazy and chaotic as they are, the characters are just one big family. They are a collection of personalities that reflect Henson’s optimism. And what is Christmas if not a madcap holiday that promotes optimism and family? It’s no surprise that before and after Henson’s death, his felt creations have been in countless Christmas-related films and shows.
We here at Den of Geek have decided to rank these Christmas entries from worst to best. In terms of ground rules, we’re only going with the baseline Muppet stuff. There are a million Sesame Street Christmas things and we’re not touching them. Same goes for Fraggle Rock and Muppet Babies. We’re focusing on Kermit’s crew, stories where Kermit is the host, and one case where one major Muppet makes his debut.
But now let’s get things started.

Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” sequel “Glass Onion” features an eclectic mix of characters, peeled back in layers by a fun murder mystery party that turns deadly serious. The eventual suspects arrive by boat on Miles Bron’s (Edward Norton) isolated Greek island for a vacation away from their champagne problems. Along with colorful outfits and a bright Mediterranean setting, a classic soundtrack accompanies the story.
Classical songs by Johann Sebastian Bach hint at the puzzling wooden box that serves as invitation to the group gathered in Greece. Several Beatles songs like “Blackbird” and the titular “Glass Onion” frame the mystery as well. David Bowie’s “Star” and “Starman” also shine some light on the subject. And let’s not forget the original “Hourly Dong” written and performed by the one and only Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Musician Janelle Monáe stars as the mysterious Cassandra Brand alongside Daniel Craig, who reprises the role of Benoit Blanc.

Brett Morgen’s Moonage Daydream is a more intimate dive into David Bowie than a traditional documentary or concert film can achieve. As an IMAX experience, it is immersive to an almost intrusive degree. It is a shame it will only be available in such a form for so short a time.
Between 1967 and 2016, David Bowie released 27 studio albums, 150 singles, shot music videos, and personal experimental films. He toured the world, and recorded in studios in London, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Berlin, and Montreux. Bowie’s estate granted Morgen full access to Bowie’s archives: long-buried performance footage, previously unheard recordings, rough 35mm and 16mm film stock, experimental video art, paintings, home movie clips, photographs, and journals.
The director of such diverse cinematic biographies as The Kid Stays in the Picture and Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck spent the first two years of the project just watching, taking it all in.

The Performance | For many, Carell will always be Michael Scott from The Office — and it’s understandable, since that was one of TV’s all-time best comedic performances. But he’s been quietly venturing into drama in recent years, and his work on Hulu’s taut...

Exclusive: Having rallied in recent months against censorship-advocating Republican politicians and the loss of abortion rights in America, Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider is going back to the past to spotlight our potential future.
The heavy metal lead singer has teamed with Magilla Entertainment for a documentary series about the efforts of Tipper Gore and the Parents Music Resource Center 37 years ago to excise so-called obscene music. Confounding all expectations, Snider appeared with Frank Zappa and John Denver before a Senate committee in 1985 and proved a compelling and insightful advocate for freedom of expression and creative license.
“To be in the crosshairs of this bipartisan attack on free speech caught me completely off guard,” Snider told Deadline. “All of my rock and roll dreams were finally coming true, and the Pmrc was trying to shut me up,” the “We’re Not Gonna Take It” singer added of the heyday of hair metal.

Farewell, Olivia Newton-John, the eternally beloved pop queen who died Monday at age 73. No Seventies star had a weirder pop trajectory, going from the world’s favorite Australian country singer to a brazen Eighties black-leather New Wave diva in just a few years. But Olivia could do it all: weepy ballads like “I Honestly Love You,” country twang like “Let Me Be There,” Fifties pastiche in Grease. Disco show tunes with Gene Kelly and Elo in Xanadu. Heavy-breathing rock odes to sex like “Magic” and “Make a Move On Me.

Sean Kelly, one of the earliest and most brazen National Lampoon writers whose lyrics for the influential 1973 Off Broadway revue National Lampoon’s Lemmings helped launch the careers of John Belushi, Christopher Guest and Chevy Chase, died July 11 in New York City of heart and renal failure. He was 81.
His death was announced by wife Patricia Todd to The New York Times.
A New York Drama Desk Award winner for Most Promising Lyricist following the 1973 Off Broadway debut of Lemmings, Kelly, at the time, specialized in song parodies, a skill that would make a considerable contribution to the revue’s notorious parody of Woodstock. The Lemmings satire of the festival featured such soon-to-be-stars as Chase and Guest impersonating, among others, John Denver and Bob Dylan (respectively).
Most famously, Lemmings’ Woodstock musical scenes included Belushi’s spot-on imitation of Joe Cocker, a savage impersonation the comic would take to Saturday Night Live...
