Clubbing, DJing, Partying movies and documentaries

by emmanouel | created - 27 Nov 2012 | updated - 21 Sep 2013 | Public

The reason for this list is because there are a number of movies out there about club culture, djing and partying in general but not everyone knows their existance except the first and the fifth. I present you the ones I have seen so far and try to give a proper insight on the story line, the soundtrack, the djs taking part in them and of course rate them from best to worst. I do have a problem with the first five movies though, it was very difficult to decide which one is the better than the other. So I put them in this order because of the relativity to the dance/club culture and soundtrack plays a huge role. Following at the bottom are the documentaries in order

Director: Hannes Stöhr | Stars: Paul Kalkbrenner, Rita Lengyel, Corinna Harfouch, Araba Walton

Votes: 15,206

First off, super soundtrack. Secondly,a very nice aproach of club culture. Clearly, DJs lives are full of temptations and Paul Kalkbrenner does wonders in the story line as we can see how bad it can get. Close to reality and a happy ending. All music from the man himself

2. Groove (2000)

R | 86 min | Drama, Music

Now thats how you organise an underground party!!!! This movie is all about first times. First proper underground house night, first pill, new city for David, true love etc. DJ Spaz is handed the Bedrock anthem from John Digweed himself. The movie couldnt be bigger but its good enough. Great sound track with music from Bedrock, Yoshitoshi amongst other. Tagline: Something's going down in the underground.

Superstar DJ Frankie Wilde goes on a major drink/drug bender and eventually loses his hearing. The movie is shot in Ibiza, the mecca of dance. Lots of DJs participated in this movie as well, but they are more like talking heads rather than acting. Some gems in the soundtrack and music is mostly trancey which isnt my taste.

Great story and very nice sound track. This movie brings a lot of memories :) The participation of DJs is better and some of the acting they had todo was carried out nicely and with a personal touch from each and every one of them, giving househead/technoheads a wet dream. As Coxy says at the end "There should be more movies about club culture out there" This is his 3rd participation in a movie

Its all about Ibiza and these two kids from the UK want to make it big. There are better films out there with the same story line but this is a comedy and a good one. An attempt of british humor but the overall result is just nice. The soundtrack is a bit cheesy as well but hey... its a comedy. Enjoy
