War Photographer (2001)
Extremely Impressive
A successfully constructed biography of James Nachtwey who devoted his life to photography. When I researched James' life and first watched his biography, he has a personality that quickly eliminated the doubts I had, especially about war photography. I think it's important for viewers to have positive thoughts about him, as he is open minded and doesn't shy away from questioning himself on many issues and even criticizes the moral dimensions of different people who do what he does.
Although it's difficult to watch all the evil that war brings, we should congratulate the viewers who try to remain calm. The documentary also invites the audience to question humanity, good and evil at length. Watching the story of James, an important journalist who hopes that good and morality will one day prevail over evil, will add very positive things to you. In addition, the community of people who call themselves photographers and journalists but don't see this as anything other than making a profit from their job should also watch it.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
We Got a Winner!
Today, I decided to watch this movie again after watching it on DVD years ago and wasn't thought messages much about it for first watch, but realizing the simple messages given, because I've been thinking about it lately about the devastation that any addiction can have on a person, including unrestricted desires and wishes.
Any occupation that makes the time spent by each person from birth to death valuable will eventually cause addiction to them and it will often be difficult to notice the addiction that gradually develops because the pleasure that comes from that occupation is like an elixir that keeps a person alive, like feeling that they exist and even a purpose for living. Although the foundations that form a positive or negative perspective on life, people and nature are formed through education, any hobby or occupation that a person spends time on affects them morally and negatively. From the most innocent to the worst, addictions that we are not aware of, I see it as an inevitable fact that they will cause emotional damage to a person but these addictions are what enable a person to hold on to life. Preventing addictions that directly harm people is important for social life and the survival of the system, and I also think that these addictions that psychologically destroy people should always be on the agenda. While learning to integrate into society, to be moral, to protect loved ones, to distance oneself from the concept of evil and to be a good individual through education, I don't remember seeing educational methods that are psychologically important regarding addictions. The only reason that people with addiction lose control over their actions. Example, drug addicts away from the dirty system of this world and feels happy with the dopamine effect that drugs give them and when this effect ends, they return to the real world and after returning, they want to use drugs once more because the drug addicts thinks that living makes them feel bad. The dopamine effect created by any addiction affects people over time and sometimes even makes them unconscious. Drug addiction, which governments and societies aren't fighting against one hundred percent, is increasing day by day and is causing terrible destruction.
About False Hopes
After having expectations about something, believing in it more and more and making it a part of your life is a positive development but a small negative situation can make you feel very bad. Everyone keep run for hope and it doesn't matter how logical or irrational this hope is because instinctively acting emotionally about hopes is inevitable. Believing in something too much, making it the sole purpose of life opens wounds that are hard to heal. Thinking in advance that there may be negative developments about hopes is one of the elements that makes a person strong. If we look at all of this from an emotional perspective, all the emotional people I have seen so far have experienced the greatest destructions due to the false hopes they have nurtured.
I congratulate the entire film crew. Because the editing, camera angles compatible with the scene, extraordinary music, acting, and tension elements were magnificent. It's a work that you should watch at least once in your life and that you cannot help but think about life. The messages given by the film are still a current issue for humanity. After the movie ended, I think I watched the walls of the house for about five minutes without thinking about anything.

Subconscious
Wow! A tremendous tragedy that reveals the subconscious in an absurd way. We can feel a war's pain no matter where. It's human anger and violence that prioritizes war rather than many people who argue that war is in our genes. The rising theme of violence, black humor elements and every detail in the film are as they should be and a magnificent scenario that directly conveys the message the director wants to give to the audience. There is no doubt that I will watch it again one day.
Thespian: ''Ethnic tension, civil war, war between brothers. If you have an open wound, you must pour the boiling lead into it yourself. Don't expect me to do it. Don't feel bad for anyone. If you feel bad for anything, ruin it until you die. Because, death is beautiful and the world is meaningless. Politics is madness. And I'm talking nonsense.''

A Different Angle of Criticism
Eli Roth is one of the famous directors of horror cinema. In this film, Roth made a harsh criticism of the fact that in our world, where we are rapidly transitioning from societies that produce to societies that consume along with the consumer frenzy, social traditions, in other words, all the elements that form socio-cultural structures are changing as negatively. Frankly, I was glad that he drew attention to an important issue because the current systems that mold people into different molds today and the fact that these systems manipulate people as they wish and that this is very easy isn't an issue that can be easily habitual, at least for traditionalists and sensible people. Despite the message given and thought-provoking nature of the film, I can't say that I liked the film but everyone who loves horror should give it a chance. Years ago I watched Hostel which I think is Roth's best film and since then no other film of his has been as memorable as that film in my opinion.
Highway to Hellas (2015)
Funny?
After an intriguing start, I thought that the German bank employee who loves his job and is strict will solve the mystery that's happening on the island and I continued to watch it for a while without getting bored but unfortunately, after a short while, the mystery elements disappeared and the movie turned into an unnecessary and unfunny comedy. Maybe it was a production that I took too seriously, I don't know but for some reason, it reminded me a little of The Wicker Man in the beginning. Towards the end of the movie, the logical errors increased and the movie ended in disappointment. I just liked the cinematography and thought about this, if a serious scenario was created and the comedy was removed, would it have been a much more appreciated movie? I realized that many viewers didn't like the movie and I'm one of them. Despite everything, some messages given to the audience were important.
Drive (2011)
The Real Aesthetic
A short and concise script that can be analyzed but doesn't contain deep analysis and Driver being a mostly silent character supports this. Emotional dialogues, good or bad characters that enchant the audience and plenty of action scenes aren't found in this artistic style film. The efforts of a betrayed character to keep his beloved and himself alive in a neo-noir world. The angles, a few but satisfying action scenes, magnificent electronic musics and the dangerous streets of the neo-noir world are worth seeing. Anyone who wants to get away from classic action films should watch it. I think it's no coincidence that the film won the Best Director award at Cannes due to the interesting and colorful world created by Nicolas, one of my favorite directors. As I do every year, I celebrated the anniversary by watching it this year too. He had a good time.
Driver: Is he a bad guy?
Benicio: Yeah.
Driver: How can you tell?
Benicio: Because he's a shark.
Driver: There's no good sharks?
Playtime (1967)
Order, Disorder, and Everything in Between
A cold gray but in same time colorful production that clearly makes you experience the slowly rising tension and the feeling of disorder and even makes you question it until the end. While thinking about the magical element of chaos, I realized that the initial conditions of a complex system can never be determined accurately enough to make a definite prediction about the behavior of the system. Of course, predictions are sufficient for many points. There is an order in disorder and thinking about it, watching it, laughing are some of the many reasons to have a good day. It was enjoyable to watch this work that was worked hard and blended chaos and comedy together but I think it's a little known production by people today and this is sad. I read that the film couldn't achieve the desired success in the years it was released and therefore the director had a hard time. Especially the restaurant scenes in the second part were one of the most enjoyable scenes I have watched. I think chaos cannot find a balance within itself today and as people, we cannot slow down in our lives on the contrary, most of people belive that it necessary to be even faster in this chaotic life. Slow down for two hours to watch this visual feast.

Histrionics
Firstly, although it was very difficult to endure the brutal images, I tried to remain calm until the end. War means great pain and trauma and those who have not experienced this reality will never fully understand it. Apart from that, it leaves many question marks on the viewer and although it's a documentary that I don't want to think badly about I had to think about it.
What is journalism?
Although the mother who claims to be a journalist is almost terribly successful by making cold blooded shots, the only and biased statement she makes is that even religious terrorist organizations other than ally Russia can be better. The only thing you have to do is to look at everything that happened analytically without distracting the audience from reality by providing information that can eliminate all the confusion.
I'm writing this with sadness but I absolutely cannot understand what kind of perspective it's to give birth to a child almost in the middle of a civil war, including getting pregnant with a second child. In addition to all this, it would have been a more real documentary if it weren't for the music choices you used in many parts of the documentary to make the audience more emotional. For Oscar, it's a mediocre production that tries to gain appreciation by exploiting the emotions of the Western world through a child and doesn't dare to tell anything.
As Above, So Below (2014)
A Real Incudus!
It's a successful film in terms of a disturbing atmosphere that starts with a fast introduction and continues until the end. The scenes that seem simple but complicated mythological subjects are handled quickly don't give a comfortable breath to the tense environment on the contrary, it adds more tension. Obviously I'm not sure if taking a comfortable breath once or a few times would be harmful to the atmosphere of the film. Since it's a low-budget production, the cinematography was as I expected that's neither good nor bad. As I have encountered in many found footage films, some jumpscare scenes in this film weren't well edited. I think this is the third time I have watched it in the past years and it's a film that I generally like and recommend. Adventurous young people chasing a myth take us to the deep and dark corridors of Paris.
The Reluctant Revolutionary (2012)
Gift of Bureaucracy!
The slowly rising tension between government supporters and opponents after the resignation of a president who had ruled the country for over 30 years and thousands of people who joined a group of revolutionary supporters who believed that the country would gradually become more prosperous is reflected very well. The bad situation the country was in got worse rather than better and the former president was assassinated 5 years after the uprisings. When you do a little research on the Middle East, including prehistory, you will first and foremost come across a reality where the balance of power is always changing and there is never unity and solidarity. Except this, you know a country including in civil war which two or more groups are involved is managed and monitored from a distance by two different great powers outside the country and the same situation is in Yemen. Don't watch without researching Ali Abdullah Saleh and the history of Yemen, albeit briefly. Obviously, I got quite tense at many points and felt like I was there. The harsh and merciless images of life shot by Kais and Sean who have interesting and good characters are definitely worth watching.
To vlemma tou Odyssea (1995)
Journey in the Dark
It could be possible to start by writing a review of Harvey. I could't have guessed that the lead actor could give such a bad performance in such a long and important masterpiece. He really gave a very bad performance with his dull eyes and soullessness. When I saw the rave reviews for the lead role, I prepared myself to write firstly review for the film. Unfortunately, I distanced myself from the movie from time to time because of the lead role but Angelopoulos created such an impressive atmosphere that I could easily get back into the movie.
You shall be watching a long and sad journey to the Balkan geography where ethnic divisions and bloody conflicts took place with the collapse of Yugoslavia and the journey of a director who is looking for an old production of art and risking his life for this in this period full of very controversial and bad stories. If you are knowledgeable about Balkan history, you will notice many metaphors. Especially the message that the myth of socialism collapsed by carrying the statue of Lenin along the Danube River and the absence of any subtext about Stalin was like a farewell to this myth by the valuable director Theo who I think believes in this myth. I felt sad in many scenes and questioned the realities of humanity again and again. For the sake of this film, research the Balkans and ask yourself over and over again why and for what purpose everything is happening.
''Let's drink to the world that never changes, despite all the hopes that have disappeared and all the dreams we have had.''
I fonissa (1974)
True Crime
The film that I've want to see for a while started musical also thought about classical criminal films 60's and 70's. For some reason I don't even like a music while seeing in any tension scene in old movies. Because, it's ruining in all tension scenes. When it started I'd no expactations but the film became interesting as time went by againts all odds. Leading lady had excellent performance all the film even was scary. While continued scenes an idea to my mind its about If more importance had been given to the script and technical aspects of the film, we could have watched a film that would be considered a classic today but it maybe a low budget production, I did not to any research on it. I like a few scenes so much example cave scene. In general, I'm between like or dislike it and happened difficult process to find the film for watch, I could be lucky about it.
Blindsight (2006)
Inspirational
A brave woman went to Tibet through emotional things. She exactly was believed to her goals. In Tibet common faith was blind human beings did bad things in their past life. Therefore, they were born as blind in new life. Unfortunately, was surprised when I saw the information on the doc and realized that couldn't research to sources enough about Tibetan culture as subject that I love. At this point Sabriye showing us that one of cultural things could be updated as positive in today. She gave a hand to insivible teenagers that we had no idea before. It is necessary to congratulate her, climber Eric and all friends who help to them. I paused the doc on several breathtaking scenes for I've dream about to be in that ice palace many years. All of these are showing to viewers that most important thing is to be on the road with high motivation before conquest your goals. The documentary that touching to hearts deserves to be knows more more by people. Shouldn't miss this doc that showing there are good human beings.
Futura (2021)
Universal Reflections of Youth
With a calm opening, my stress coefficient increased with each passing minute. It's a very scary situation for young people to doubt their independence in the future and unfortunately, these and all similar concerns are experienced in almost every country. Sometimes I can't help but think about this, I had a depressive personality with similar thoughts in my adolescence and I must admit that I still carry traces of those days. I don't know if all these future concerns are a state of extreme fear of the unknown or just a romanticized situation.
I didn't realize how time flew by while watching expressive faces and their expressive thoughts. I recommend real people who know what empathy is who are interested in someone else's problem and who like to brainstorm about that problem to watch this documentary at the first opportunity. The thoughts, shooting angles, and the open minded and brave appearance of almost all young people that illuminated the inner world of each individual and visualized the moments they wanted to be in in the future from their perspective were magnificent. In order to share the concerns of young people and even find solutions, it is necessary to have empathy.

What are you looking for?
"I Feel Like A Spectator In My Own Life."
If you cannot find the purpose of living in the ocean of thoughts that you are stuck in your life and you reject the judgments or rules determined by the society and at the same time you want to say "I'm here" to society that you are uncomfortable and don't accept to them. This situation of being stuck in between reduces your tolerance level towards everything and if you're experiencing all these situations, this wonderful movie tells about you.
Sometimes I wonder if searching for the feeling called happiness is what keeps us alive. In fact, when we feel cornered in life, it is easy to think that sadness, tragedy, failure or fear are the product of a single existence. To think that it's result of not just living, that's living in a certain way. I mean I think it would be a lot easier if we understood that there's no lifestyle that makes us immune to pain. There's pain in the nature of happiness, one cannot exist without the other and of course, there are different types. I guess we will never be in pure happiness forever in any life. Thinking that such a life could exist can only increase our unhappiness in the life we live.
It was one of the movies that I should have firstly in my watch list but I guess I watched it a little late :) After 10 years I was very surprised to see evolution of Renate whom I remembered from the movie that Oslo 31 August. It was inevitable to get lost in thoughts after the movie which had great acting and content was over. Joachim Trier and his star Andersen will always be my favorites.
"I Feel Like Never See Anything Through. I Go From One Thing To Another."
Oslo, 31. august (2011)
Resume
Have you ever sat and watched the flow of life and smiled as you watched it all flow?
Drug addict Anders visits Oslo for a day to restart his life after a long therapy session and to reminisce about his beautiful memories. You will watch what he imagines about his life throughout the day.
Over time, I realized that everyone has various addictions and routines and they continue them, whether they are aware of it or not. Depression, which has emerged almost entirely in the mindset as a result of all these changes, is one of the biggest problems of modern people. The fact that Anders is a thoughtful character makes him a transparent person but also makes him a difficult person to understand for many people. Sometimes we have difficulty expressing ourselves but most of the time it is a painful feeling to feel like we are not understood by people. In our age where only the feeling of self prevails even though mutual understanding can be facilitated, human beings are becoming increasingly alienated from each other and this situation is a step towards the extinction of people who are estranged from each other.
I feel Anders' emotions so intensely that I have never been able to fully describe these feelings and I don't think I'll be able to describe them from now on either. It's just that depression or whatever its name is, feels as comfortable as it does pain.
What I can say about the movie is that anyone who reads it and is curious about human psychology will like it and find something for themselves. I love this movie which is slow and full of intense emotions. Additionally, I was surprised to learn that Andersen, the lead character was actually a psychologist. He performed well.
The saddest thing in life is that human beings deceive themselves in order to be motivated.
House of Hammer (2022)
Unbearable.
As usually a moment that I was listening Mystery of Love by Sufjan and I wondered what happened about Hammer's process and found thing that this mini TV series and watched first one. First off all, I wonder if he thought about what might happen in the future regarding the messages he sends. Maybe he knew what could happen but didn't care, I believe in this idea more. I felt bad for Hammer's psychological state and his particular fantasies were disgusting but even so I have to tell that all of women who he send a message, they spent time together with Hammer and no one forced them to do it. Unfortunately, all the women bashing Hammer seem insecure. Everyone who wanted to criticize him came together and made a bad TV series. I would like to watch a better quality mini TV series that tells exactly what is going on and brings together reliable people but I won't watch the other episodes. In general, I can say that Hammer was an actor on the rise in Hollywood but he ended his career with his bad subconscious and actions. I hope he lives a normal, calm life and doesn't experience similar situations.
Donbass (2018)
Good and Evil
For years I've been thinking about the question, is ignorance the problem of all humanity? Since everywhere the human species is, someone is always imposing their own truths and beliefs on the others, and with a resulting conflict, both sides lose. In this conflict of the just and the unjust, humanity is losing. Why don't we try to understand a different thought instead of directly responding to it and we are filled with hatred? Why do we directly believe in any ideology or even a religion and rent our brains? I've spent years trying to understand the world we live in and the human species by asking similar questions like these.
I watched the director Sergei Loznitsa's Maidan first and finally I had the opportunity to watch Donbass, which I postponed for a long time. The director, the cinematographer and the entire cast did a great job. The director blended the situation in Ukraine with black comedy. As long as there are people who choose not to use our thinking ability, which is our only difference from animals, and choose to be animals, pain will always remain. I hope that Ukraine and all communities in the same plight will find peace.
Born Into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids (2004)
There is always a way.
Whenever I think of the city of Kolkata where chaos prevails and all contrasts come together, I dream of a warm sunlight hitting the face at sunset on a colorful street. Kolkata is a port city with a population of approximately 15 million, the city is India's second largest city. I came across this emotional and wonderful documentary while researching the state of Bengal, one of the areas I have always wondered about what's going on in back streets. I finally seen the truth of this life that I have been avoiding from seeing it for a while and I hope I can put my mixed feelings on paper.
Nobody wants to be punished for all the social problems that the child will experience in line with the good education that an adult who has had a difficult life experience and has not completed his education cannot give his child. In this world where people are classified on every subject, we ignore children who are unaware of anything and are only sincere and leave them to their fate. Therefore, I think we should be conscious of self awareness which is one of the most important things in our personal development. Zana Briski is raising self awareness together, including herself with a few almost orphaned children in the back streets of Kolkata in 2004.
Sometimes I think about the various thoughts that cross our minds and the fact that we can't get rid of being prejudiced. Prejudices that refer to factors such as gender, age, race, religion, physical appearance which can appear at any time in individual and social situations not be seen as a problem because they are often taken for granted. However, prejudices also threaten social cohesion. It is necessary to congratulate the director and his team who gave lessons to the audience with their approach to these beautiful children who are in the process of socialization for their wonderful work. I want to thank them for showing us the necessity of being conscious.
I envy Avijit and his friends who don't extinguish the light of hope no matter what. Because, they always believed there was a way. I hope for a world where we know our responsibilities and are more aware that children are the most important beauty for our future. You must see this emotional truth.
La famiglia (1987)
Circle of Life
First of all, I have been thinking about the question of what the concept of family means for a few weeks. I guess family is like a limb of a person. You share the saddest and happiest moments with them, the most sensitive point of a person could be his family. La Famiglia is a portrait of a family in Fascist Italy. I just watched life and I didn't want it to end, for me La Famiglia is such a movie. We always want a simple and peaceful life but this is not possible. Unfortunately it is inevitable to experience uneasiness in life after or before some happy moments. Of course, people realize their mistakes when they are unhappy. That's why it is an important detail to accept everything as it is and start the change with yourself first. I really like the atmosphere Ettore Scola creates in his films you both laugh and question.
"From Violetta to Alfredo: Life is just pleasure."

Kang rinpoche (2015)
A Meaningful Silence
A group of Tibetan walks to Lhasa with their pride and longing. This documentary is a lost part of us, because I'm thinking we need to pure feelings like that. I've always wondered the Tibet and that geography, because of giant mountains and emotional reasons. Congratulations to Zhang Yang for he showed to cinema world that hard journey and smiling faces. I'm proud of them.
Touching the Void (2003)
An Outstanding Story.
An outstanding story but it was an average production, therefore frankly I can not say I like it, except this there are important information to mountaineers, I though the mountaineers could like this film.
Songs My Brothers Taught Me (2015)
Nuances of Life
I watched Nomadland a few weeks ago and watched this movie today too, frankly I excited at the firstly minutes but later I did not find what I expected, maybe firstly I shouldn't have watched the Nomadland, therefore I guess my expectation was high, I want to say something about the movie; anymore all youth can't see the future, because there aren't almost trouble-free country, people want to go to the other countries, they can't dream anything and they questioning life, therefore problems in this movie there are all places, all options are before us, we must see them and be courageous, otherwise it is not even sincere that we are caught between happiness and unhappiness where we are.
David Lynch: The Art Life (2016)
Run after your dreams.
I watched the second movie of Lynch and then I watched Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway. I liked very much his other movies without Lost Highway. I used to think always he is a mysterious man but after watching this film I think he is very friendly. I liked his workshop. I think he had hard youth times but that is why he is a successful director and artist. I really liked Lynch's story. It's a very successful documentary. Be always yourself and don't give up your dreams.
Selfie (2019)
Hope.
I had no idea what kind of documentary it was before I watched Selfie. You will watch the story of two friends and what is going on around them. I can say that there is pure sincerity and sometimes sadness from the very beginning to the end.
It looks like neighborhoods where I was born and grew up. I understand the difficulties, livelihoods and life struggles of people. In this world, unfortunately, the pipe of the strong always sounds more and the weak ones are constantly crushed. Even a search for justice. But hope should be every moment and we should never be pessimistic. Whatever happens, justice is taking place one day.
As a result, I can say that I love it and recommend it to those who have not yet watched. I love the city of Naples. It seems very natural to me. We must always have hope.
