Past Lives (2023)
10/10
The Most Realistic Romantic Movie
12 May 2024
Past Lives tells the story of the very common people. Human emotions are so complicated and vague, like Jaime Lannister said, "we don't get to choose whom we love."

The movies show that the protagonists fall in love with the ones they get to be with in their lives. But there are a few films who actually portray the other side of the coin, like Roman Holiday, La La Land- where we get to know that sometimes things don't go the way we want things to go. In this genre of films, I think Past Lives is the epitome.

It catches the emotion in the most accurate way with the way of storytelling and acting, the surroundings are not too cinematic, the daily life of the characters is not extraordinarily different than common people. It all fits so realistically.

Seeing this film is like visualizing a real story, so real that we all know about this, it's all around us, but it's too pointless to talk about it.

A complete cinema, complete story, complete life!
10 September 2023
I don't know how to describe my feeling for this cinema. Yet, I'll try.

Why do we watch cinema? To me, I watch cinema, because it has a story in it, a story of a different life more precisely. We get to live only one life for a short period on this planet. Its cinema that lets me explore different lives through its portrayal. I simply know that I love cinema and I love every bit of it with all my life.

Cinema Paradiso is such a relevant film to me because I think I and Toto truly share the same love for cinema. Every cinema is like a new wonderful adventure. Like him, I too have memorized numerous dialogues of different films all over my life. Cinema simply works like magic on us.

The film not only shows Toto and his love for cinema, it also portrays his complete life. It's also so much relevant, because it's an ordinary life. "Life isn't like in the movies. Life... is much harder."- Life lessons, taken from the cinema, just like Alfredo.

I just finished watching this film and sat to write this review. It's getting longer than expected. I think this somewhat explains why it's so special. Stopping it here (may edit later).

A Bromantic Gem 💎
12 May 2023
I'm pretty sure that at the time this film was released, the song Dui Prrithibi moved all the motorbike lovers in both Bengals. I was primary school at that time, couldn't even ride a bicycle, yet I loved the song. Now I'm almost at my senior year in undergrad, thinking about getting a bike this year, and I still love this song. It keeps playing in my head everytime I sit on a bike. I'll stop here, it looks like a song review instead of a film review.

The film is romantically lame. The idea of the story is okay. But the excessive use of the word Bhalobasha in every romantic scene made it absolutely lame.

But the brotherhood of men this film showed - *(chef's kiss)*. The personal conversations between Rahul and Shibu- every guy can relate to those scenes. The way Shibu looks at the Kawasaki Ninja, every middle class bike lover looks at their dream bike like that. Men love women. But more than that, men cherish adventure. Men want to be men!

Well-made documentary of another Real-life Superhero!
1 May 2022
I appreciate the makers of this documentary. The directing, scripting, editing, bg music etc. Everything went perfect for the documentary. They presented the story how it was supposed to be presented. & of course, the protagonist himself is the hero of the film, both behind and in front of the screen. Very inspiring!!

Very Cinematic.
26 April 2022
The thing that made this show different apart from the show itself from other shows of this genre is the making of this show.

Cinematography, dialogues, costumes, locations, characters designs, script, angers, smiles, laughter, actions, editing, color grading, bg music, creating the ambiance.. everything is full of super dramaticness.

I don't get the hype about the show!
19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Games with deaths, friendships, betrayal- we're not new with these stories. The idea of the story is interesting, but not interesting enough to make all these hypes about it. A very overrated and over-hyped show.

Just an overview of a mysterious event.
19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's just a summary of the Burari event.

The event itself is interesting for the first look. But as it's a documentary show, there's no twists, no interesting plots, no proper explanation, nothing.

Maybe my expectations were too high, or maybe it's overrated. Giving 7 for the making of the show. Great direction!

Beautifully sad.

The whole movie is beautifully storied, directed, cinematographed, edited, made, all with a mixture of frustration. The beginning is the end, the end is the beginning.

Life that everyone craves for.

No matter how much how much money you make, how much respect you have, how much you've traveled all over the world, if you can't live the life of Charlie, what's the point?

How a teacher should be.
14 August 2021
This is the film that made me fell in love with English literature. The film that made me want to be a teacher. & I'll regret forever for not taking English Literature as my major and for not being a teacher because of this film.

Simply wonderful.

This film is one of the great examples which shows that it doesn't really take much to make a good film. Its the meaningful story what viewers look for.

Real life of film stars.

The story and direction of this film is so much ahead of that time. In 1966, what Ray has shown about filmmaking in this film is truly mesmerizing!

Man with pure passion for his work.
14 August 2021
If you have read Wings of Fire by APJ Abdul Kalam, you can relate his life in this film. Except for the Naoko part, both of their lives are quite similar. They were engineers. They loved their work. They were dreamers. They are the people the world will remember forever.

When people ask me about my favorite animation film, I often name this film. The story is simply touching, the twists are interesting enough, wonderful visuals and the musics are just ❤ My favorite part of this film is La Llorona. I often go to youtube to watch this again again, never fails to amaze me!

The ACTING
13 August 2021
Surely it's a great film, you've already seen some great reviews I'm sure. But the most amazing part of the film to me is acting of Mert Turak. While watching the film, so many times I was feeling like googling who this guy is and if he's actually crippled. What a talented actor he is!

An actual HORROR film.
13 August 2021
This is how horror films should be made. Great casting and directing. What I like most about this film is how it scares the hell outta viewers without often showing an actual spook.

This film is an Art.
13 August 2021
I'm not a film connoisseur. To me, French films are about understanding the surroundings, reading the facial expressions, feeling how the characters feel and let the film draw something in your mind. I'm not very good at all these things but I enjoy trying.

Good but couldn't meet expectation!
13 August 2021
REKKA as book is very suspenseful and thrilling. The show kept the original story and flavor of the book. But it failed to create the actual SUSPENSE of the story. It's good, but could've been made better.

THE BEST SHOW ON EARTH TILL DATE
12 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is more than a show. It's more like a journey.

I'm not here to anything more about how this show is, because I don't think I'll say anything new. Every character development, every little detail of the story.. I don't know the words to appreciate this masterpiece. This is the only show where, after finishing season 7, I wished that I don't die before the final season. This is only show that I watched before my HSC examination, couldn't hold my excitement. The only show that gives me goosebumps every time I see a cutscenes or footage on the internet. This is the best to me, that's all I know.

I would rather put some points here why the last season is as great as any other seasons and I'm not disappointed at all-

1. GoT was never a show that goes by what the viewers expectations. It has been always different from expectation.

2. No matter how good Daenerys was, she was the blood of mad king. It happened bc it had to happen.

3. John never wanted the throne. He was never meant be the king on the throne, but the king beyond the throne.

None of these might make sense to you. But it does to me. Probably I'm in love with this show a little too much, I'm biased. Probably no, I'm absolutely right.
