way too confusing.
6 December 2015
I give this movie a 2 out of 10. I believe that the four vignettes going on at the same time is way, way way too confusing. I saw this movie on TV and not on DVD which could explain the differences in the reviews. It was way too much work to sit and enjoy the movie. Not only were there four different vignettes, the sound kept going off and on through each of the four vignettes so that even though the video was continuous the sound was choppy and it was difficult to get into the cohesiveness of the movie(s).This is definitely a movie for those 20 and above and for those below the age of 70 who would enjoy a more cohesive movie. There is no snack time during this movie since it will take your complete and total focus to understand all that is going on. Way too much work for me. I like to sit back and enjoy the story (singular) on screen and not have to try and concentrate on four different vignettes with intermittent sound. This movie is only good to figure out if you enjoy multiple movies at the same time. It is almost a waste of time to see.

Really bad Christmas movie
6 November 2015
The move "A Merry Friggin' Christmas" attempts to be funny but the humor isn't cute, it is almost sick. It is not a movie for the children. It is for adults only because only the adults can appreciate the humor. I do like Robin Williams and Candice Bergen, but not in this movie. This movie left me feeling really flat. Most Christmas movies make me feel good in the end, but with this one -- I'm just glad the movie ended. I guess I should have given it one star, but with Robin Williams, it does have some redeeming grace. One should spend their time elsewhere or doing something else. This movie might appeal to the 20 year old dope heads. This movie reminds me of how Beavis and Butthead might do Christmas.

The Comedians (1967)
4/10
Movie contains many stars of the 1960s
27 September 2014
The Comedians is a film best enjoyed by those who are 30 years or older and who enjoy the wonderful stars of the 1960s. This movie is worth watching for the wonderful stars of Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Alec Guinness, James Earl Jones, and Peter Ustinov. These alone make the movie. I enjoy watching the on-screen romance between the Burton and Taylor, knowing that off screen they were also in love. The movie is a prime time movie, even competing with today's movies. The biggest problems with this movie is that it is too long and too predictable. The movie is a bit slow at many points. However, I still enjoy watching and listening to the stars in the film. Enjoy the film with any snack or even with a TV dinner. I give it 4 thumbs up.

Klute (1971)
3/10
Classic movie, giant stars
19 August 2014
Klute is a good movie classic that is best enjoyed by 30 and older crowd. With stars like Jane Fonda, Donald Sutherland and Roy Schneider, there is no reason why you should not enjoy this film. However, I have just seen too many Jane Fonda movies. The movie is a typical suspense, thriller, drama movie of the seventies. Klute is a prime time movie, that is, it is to be watched between 6 pm and 10 pm. It was so amazing to see such a young Donald Sutherland in this film. I normally remember his acting as a gray haired man. It is also amazing to see the Edith Bunker star (All In The Family) in this film. I had not remembered seeing her in films before, but she is in this movie. Popcorn and chips are the recommended snacks in this movie.

Anatomy (2000)
2/10
the soundtrack was off
25 July 2014
Anatomy is a movie best enjoyed by those who are between 16 and 45 who enjoy horror films, particularly those horror films with a medical/hospital theme. This is not a prime time film, but a late night or rainy afternoon film. I usually like horror films but this one lost most of its enjoyment for me because the sound track was off. It was either the sound track or the actors were not speaking English. The mouthing of the words did not match up with the speaking of the words. This pretty much destroyed the film for me. The film is rather a slow paced film, until it nears the end. Then, during the chase, the pace picks up. However, the ending has a little bit of a twist on it. Popcorn and pizza make great snacks for this low budget film. Enjoy.

I do not know if what is being discussed is real or imaginary.
21 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Aliens on the Moon: The Truth Exposed is an interesting film. I do not know if what is being discussed is real or imaginary. This film was shown on the SciFi channel and not the history or any of the science channels. I do not know if it is another "War of the Worlds" films whereby they make the imaginary seem real. I do not know if the documentary style of the film is nonfiction. The film is geared to those who want to believe that we are not alone in the universe and that aliens could have visited the moon and possibly the earth. I watched and listened to the discussions of all the alien artifacts seen on the moon and around mars. Everything seems too incredible to be true. However, I do not think it would make any difference if aliens do/did exist. I find it scarier that we are alone in the universe instead of we are not alone. This is a serious thought provoking issue. Either way, we cannot do anything about it. Fiction or nonfiction, that is the question. I don't know. Too much Hollywood about aliens.

Just a Gigolo (1931)
2/10
I found the acting atrocious
21 July 2014
Just a Gigolo is a movie best appreciated by those who are 45 and older and who enjoy older films. It is not a prime time movie. It is probably best enjoyed late at night or on a rainy afternoon. I found the acting in the movie mostly to be, put it lightly, atrocious. However, that was the style in the early films. Watch the lifestyles of the rich and famous in 1931. The best thing about this movie is that it is fairly short, just a little over an hour in length, and will fill empty time and create empty noise. I am most grateful for the short movie. Wine and cheese are on the menu for snacks for this film. Popcorn is okay. The movie may even be a cure for insomnia if it were not for the screeching female voices in the film, particularly the French accented one. It's not so bad to rate it as really bad. It's just bad and I enjoy older films. Not a total waste of time though.

RED 2 (2013)

Plots and double plots
15 July 2014
Red 2 is a movie best enjoyed by those who really enjoy fast paced movies of intrigue -- however, this movie is not suited for young children. I was really surprised that this movie was just as good, if not better than Reds, its prequel. I love the interplay between Bruce and John -- really good screen interaction. I loved the script and the stunts as well. The movie really kept you on your toes. In fact, I'll need to see it about three times to catch all of the nuances. Plots and double plots, in fact, subplots and triple plots are all part of this movie.I enjoyed the character played by Anthony Hopkins, who himself, had his own agenda. No snacks here except for those that you don't have to think about while eating. Enjoy.

So many twists and turns
13 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The Man With A Cloak is a movie best enjoyed by baby boomers and for those who like a good mystery movie -- not really for children. The movie is best enjoyed on a rainy afternoon or very late at night. The movie has so many intertwining plots and sub plots that the real crux of the story is revealed at the very end. The real plot is not the story but the ending. You'll need to watch it at least twice to appreciate the movie. The first time through, you'll be caught up in the dialog plots. The second time through for clues for the final plot. I think Leslie Caron detracts from the movie and her part should have been for another actress who is less squeaky when she speaks. Wine and cheese would go well with this flick. I give it 4 thumbs up out of ten.

My Dad's a Soccer Mom (2014 TV Movie)
3/10
Good family movie
6 July 2014
My Dad's a Soccer Mom would be best enjoyed by a family with older children who are 8 and up. The movie is best enjoyed as a prime time movie, just after dinner and dishes. The cast make a believable attempt at their characters although no one is a great actor, nor does anyone have a great role. The movie plugs through and keeps one's attention during most of the movie. However, I wish that predictable movies like this one would just cut to the chase. Dessert, popcorn, sandwiches are all great snacks for this film since it does not require constant attention to all the details to enjoy this movie. So prop up your feet and relax with this movie. I give it three thumbs up out of ten.

The movie has that old time romantic quality about it.
15 May 2014
Father Is A Bachelor is a movie best appreciated by the baby boomer generation and by those who love the old black and white sappy type movies. The opening song creates the mood for the entire movie. William Holden is okay. I am used to see him in more challenging roles and doing a great job. The movie has a slightly different romantic twist about it though. This is a good movie for those late night insomniacs or the rainy day afternoon crowd. The movie has a slow pace so for those late night watchers, you might want to drink some coffee or other caffeinated beverage to stay awake to finish the movie. I give the movie two thumbs up.

Pacific Rim (2013)
3/10
the story gets old fast.
2 May 2014
Pacific Rim is a movie best enjoyed by fans of Science Fiction and action packed movies. The movie best reminds me of those rock 'em,, sock 'em video games -- monsters and robots. The movie is colorful and holds your attention. However, to me, the story gets old fast. I really don't think that there were any acting challenges, except for the wildly creative monsters and their movements. The monsters remind me of the ever-ready battery commercials -- they keep coming and coming and don't stop. Overkill is the act of the day. This movie is great for a party or having a bunch of friends get together. I give it three thumbs up for its colorful action.

Jeanette MacDonald always has a beautiful voice.
1 May 2014
The Cat and The Fiddle is a movie best enjoyed by the baby boomer generation. The best things about this movie is the surprise ending and Jeanette MacDonald. I found the movie to have a lack-luster plot. The beautiful scenery and costumes aid in the enjoyment of the film. I always enjoy watching Frank Morgan. Jeanette MacDonald always has a beautiful voice. I think that the film would be best enjoyed as a late night film to relax one from the stresses of the day. A glass of wine is a perfect to accompany the viewing of this film. If the producer could do the ending of the film the way he did, then why didn't he do the rest of the film the same way. It would have been more enjoyable to watch like that. It was too long, too late. I give it three thumbs up.

The Confession (2013 TV Movie)
4/10
Another Cinderella Rags To Riches Story
1 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The Confession is a family movie and is also for romantics who believe in happily ever after. The movie is about a wicked stepfather who employs an actress to be his wife's long lost daughter. The wife inadvertently hires the real daughter as a maid. And so the story goes. The wife is also the fairy godmother who makes all her daughter's dreams come true. The cycle of life continues. The movie is good to watch as a prime time family night movie or as an afternoon matinée. The movie has a relaxed tone so enjoy whatever snacks you want to bring to your TV chair. True love conquers all again, although this true love is a mother/daughter love. I give the movie four thumbs up.

I was glad that the movie was short and to the point.
12 March 2014
The Amazing Adventure is a movie that is best enjoyed by baby boomers and those who are fans of Cary Grant. I found the whole movie theme rather trite and boring. The acting in the movie was OK. I was glad that the movie was short and to the point. Once the movie is over, it is easily and quickly forgotten. By the time I saw the movie, the quality of the film was grainy and lacked sharpness for a black and white film. This movie is definitely a rainy day movie or a late night movie. Cary Grant is the movie. Without him, the movie would have been a total bore. Grant's lively personality is strong enough to carry the film. That is why the lead stars get the big bucks because they are the movie. Popcorn all around here, maybe a glass of wine or some hot tea.

Oblivion (I) (2013)
4/10
The film is carried by Tom Cruise.
3 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Oblivion is a film which would appeal to those 14 and older and for those who are Science fiction fans. The film is carried by Tom Cruise. He is the film. The film's pace is very slow. In fact, it takes 45 minutes to an hour before any real action begins to take place. The film reminded me of the strategy in Independence Day whereby the alien ship was destroyed from within except that in this one, the deliverers of the bomb don't make it out. This is a prime time movie. It is not really a family film, although young teens and older might also enjoy the film. Younger children might get confused with all the clones running around. Bring the popcorn and break out the soda for this film. Enjoy.

Morning Glory (1933)
3/10
once the movie ends, so does your recollection of the experience
1 March 2014
Morning Glory is a movie which would most appeal to the baby boomer generation. The movie has great stars like Katharine Hepburn and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Great acting from great stars. However, once the movie ends, so does your recollection of the experience and that is why I rated the film lower than normal (4-5). This movie is worth watching for the stars alone. Morning Glory would best be enjoyed on a rainy afternoon or late at night and viewed alone. The movie's pace is a bit slow and the story line a bit tedious. Savor the experience of Morning Glory with a glass of wine and some fruit on the side instead of popcorn. Enjoy

Renee Zellweger is excellent in this movie.
26 February 2014
A Price above Rubies is a movie most appreciated by those who like to see everyday life from a everyday woman's perspective and for those above25. Renee Zellweger (RZ)has the remarkable talent of portraying emotions without saying a word and everyday people without being boring. In this film she does just that. Everybody else's acting and role is way secondary and not near as good as her acting and role. RZ is not beautiful, but she is attractive in her own way. This movie is basically a "Chick Flick." It is a good movie for women and their BFFs to watch. A woman's male significant other may feel a bit threatened by this movie. Therefore, this movie would best be watched on a afternoon rather than prime time. Share a pizza with this movie. Enjoy.

it is a masterpiece of a movie.
25 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
All Quiet On the Western Front is a movie that most "Doves" over the age of 30 will appreciate. Most "Hawks" may not". I am a Hawk. I enjoy war movies that show the "good guys" winning and the action on many war films. However, it is a masterpiece of a movie. This is a movie that basically shows the senselessness of war. The movie was an international hit. Lew Ayes initially tried out for a bit part for this film and the director saw him perfect for the lead. He got it and was instantly a star. This is not a prime time movie. It is a movie that demands your attention and thoughts. The movie is very depressing. The pace of the movie is deliberately slow. No popcorn here. This movie is for thinking, not relaxing.

Moll Flanders (1996)
4/10
The movie deals with adult content so it is NOT a family film to be watched by minors.
12 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Moll Flanders is a movie best enjoyed by those who are 18 years old and older. The movie deals with adult content so it is NOT a family film to be watched by minors. In some ways the movie has some romantic ideas. However, I guess the movie could be about the overall cruelty of the world and how to survive in it especially if you are a poor woman in Victorian England. This is no different a theme than in many other movies. I felt that Stockard Channing did a good job in acting and making the viewer understand and believe her character. I always like Morgan Freeman, but he is always good at acting. Because of the adult nature of the film, it might be best enjoyed late at night with one's significant other. Although the overall plight of women has changed over time, in many ways the overall plight of uneducated and poor women has not. Although the movie is enjoyable, it does not leave a lasting impression like a good glass of wine or a good meal might. The next day refresh yourself in another mother. This one is easily forgettable.

Insomnia (2002)
3/10
Al Pacino and Robin Williams, are very good in this movie.
12 February 2014
Insomnia is a movie for those 18 and older who enjoy mystery/thriller movies. The movie is a good film for late at night when you can devote some "alone" time to the movie or possibly when you are eating dinner by yourself. The actors, Al Pacino and Robin Williams, are very good in this movie. The rest of the cast are okay. Once the film is over and one has had a good night's sleep, the movie is easily forgotten in the long scheme of movies. The pace of the film is a bit slow. The movie does eventually draw you into the action as well as emotionally into support of the character played by Al Pacino. This is a movie to watch with a glass of wine to savor both the beverage and the movie.

See it on a rainy day or late night party.
10 February 2014
The Horror Of It All is a movie that would appeal to those 14 and older who like B rated comedies and/or horror movies. The movie is too comedic to be a true horror movie and contains too much horror type things to be a comedy. It is neither fish nor fowl. The movie is in black and white I suppose to add to the horror features of the movie. It is probably best enjoyed on a rainy afternoon or late at night. I could almost see the movie being watched at a teenage slumber party since it will not give anybody any real gruesome nightmares. The musical background is over the top horror type music. However, the acting is almost comedic since it too is over the top horror type. Popcorn all around here.

Morgan! (1966)

Morgan is not my cup of tea.
9 February 2014
Morgan! would be most appealing to those 21 and older who enjoy British humor and British films. In addition, this is a new wave movement type film and is different from previous British films. Morgan is not my cup of tea. British humor many times eludes me completely. I found the film totally pointless and a waste of my time. However, there are very few British film that I enjoy. I was lenient in rating this film hoping that someone might enjoy such a film. It is a crazy film. The movie is not a prime time type movie. At best, it is a rainy day afternoon type movie. Have a party. Have the movie as background noise. I really don't think anyone will be watching.

The Buccaneer (1958)
4/10
It is not quite your typical pirate film.
8 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The movie, The Buccaneer, is a movie which might best appeal to older children, 10 - 14 and those who are 40 and up who enjoy adventure type films with pirates and or old style soldiers. It is not quite your typical pirate film. It is a fictional drama about the war of 1812 and the Battle of New Orleans. The most remarkable thing about this film is that Yul Brynner has HAIR in this film. I am sure that he did other films with hair, but this is my first film which I have seen him in with HAIR. I had to keep listening to him to re-verify that it was indeed Yul Brynner. This is a good movie to watch on a lazy afternoon or late at night. Other than the hair, it is an easily forgotten movie. Enjoy it for the fictional historical type drama. Remember it is Hollywood, not the historical society putting the film on.

Hanky Panky (1982)
4/10
this movie is not the typical Gene Wilder type movie
6 February 2014
The movie, Hanky Panky, is probably best enjoyed by those who are 30 and older and are a fan of Gene Wilder. I normally do enjoy seeing Gene Wilder, but this movie is not the typical Gene Wilder type movie. I expected this movie to have more comedic moments especially with a co-star like Gilda Radner. Although the movie does have its comedic moments, it is a bit too serious for a Gene Wilder flick. I was surprised to see Richard Widmark in such a movie. There is a bit of over-dramatized acting. The musical background is a bit over the top and could have been toned down. This is a good afternoon or late night movie. The pace of the movie is a bit slow at times. I should have rated the movie down a notch or two, but it does have Gene Wilder and Richard Widmark in it. Enjoy with popcorn or a sandwich.
